So the dreaded one star review and it hurts because this is my favorite bar in Austin. They ridiculous POS system that uses toast that over authorize $25 for any purchase. One day when I was there, I bought a bloody Mary with Kashan and then I saw that they had a five dollar special on a great kid of Chester so I tried to buy it with my debit card which only had about $23 on it. Because of this, the bartender company that asked me to leave, which I did Later that evening I came back with a full amount of money about something like $40 to buy stuff and I wasn't actually gonna buy any alcohol. I just wanted the sandwich that I was gonna buy earlier. I had about $23 for a five dollar beer and a sandwich which I was gonna buy. I couldn't do that so I had to leave. Then when I had enough money to come back to buy a sandwich, the female bartender told me to leave, and I haven't come back since. In fact, took five days for two different overcharge from this place about $25 each to come back on my card. So until they fix their POS system, I advise everyone not to go to the yellow jacket unfortunately even though it is my favorite bar in Austin. read more

This is going to be a big NO for me. Good luck coming and getting warm food or some simple eye contact. I'm a bar manger and was actually blown away by the lack of customer service or a simple hello how can I help you. I understand you work at a dive bar we frequent lots of dive bars in atx like side bar & jackalope ect. So I understand what comes with going to dive bars but when your staff looks and acts like they hate their jobs it's unwelcoming and throws off the energy for the night! People were standing at the bar waiting 10+ minutes to order and weren't getting acknowledged with even a simple one moment I'll be right with you. Why have I been sleeping on the Meze platter all these years? It's the perfect thing to eat slowly while sitting at their picnic tables under string lights. It's light enough you can keep grazing for a long time, but also flavorful enough to satisfy. My favorite part combination was topping some pita with hummus and the carrot mint salad. The pickled jicama was a little spicy, so the cool tziki complemented it well. This isn't my usual type of order, but I highly recommend this dish! read more

I've seen so many people say "best bar in town" "best Bloody Mary," but yall...this place is not it. They had no menus, none for food or drink, they said the menus on their website were wrong too. Their Bloody Mary was a depressing beer based Bloody Mary and their breakfast torta was sad. Refried beans on soggy bread with an egg and lettuce inside. Could have made better food at home. Also it was a very unwelcoming vibe when we got there. The outdoor seating space is nice under some beautiful crepe myrtals, and the exterior of this place is unusual and interesting, but it's definitely not enough to make this place a spot to frequent. read more

My cousin recommended this place to me so when we realized we were nearby, Nate and I stopped in for a drink and a snack while visiting Austin. The vibe inside is pretty divey, but I think the main draw is the big outdoor area, which is a dirt patio with plenty of seating. I liked that it had some trees and there were a few cute dogs for dog watching. Nate ordered a bloody Mary because the bartender was talking about how it had just won an award. It was tasty, no complaints there. I got a specialty vodka drink with cherry. It was a little sweet but refreshing on the warm day. They have a full menu with sandwiches and salads, but we just got a cup of the sweet and spicy nuts. They definitely had a bit of a kick to them! I liked the bit of glaze and they had a nice crunch. It was a great little drinking snack for $5. Pricing here was really reasonable, especially for food. I'd come back again and if I lived in the area, I think this would be my go-to spot. read more

Can't believe how antisocial this social club is. Everyone is so rude and hates their life. The bartenders go out of their way to ignore you and dismiss you. And DEMAND 20% + tip. The audacity! Wish I took her name down but the female behind the bar doesn't care about the customer, she only cares about the other men behind the bar and was practically making out with them. So gross. These bartenders know nothing about customer service or basic social skills. Props to the bartenders for making legitimate lemon drops instead of hating us for ordering them. They had bar service, and line was never longer than 3 people or crowded. We didn't have to wait for a table at all when we arrived. We sat in a table nestled in the trees and although I saw reviews that complained about the birds, the trees were a nice back rest, and the social distancing was comforting! It's definitely not a fancy or experience-based spot, but it has a time and place! Pro tip: If you get stuck on the wrong side of the really long fence in the street, one of the panels to the right of the entrance is unattached and you can step through!! read more

Came here on a Sunday for brunch by myself. Plenty of open seating but somehow the kitchen was backed up and I didn't get my food until 30-40 min later. Got a Bloody Mary and just chilled in the open courtyard. When the food came out, I was pleasantly surprised with the pork belly, which was a very healthy portion of protein with a fried egg on top and a small thin hash brown pancake under neath. The portion size may be on the smaller side for some but it was perfectly ok with me. The food and drinks were also quite cheap for East Austin (my Bloody Mary was less than $6)! I've been to Yellow Jacket many times. The bartender Rob take advantage of people he thinks is drunk. I've watched him take a $20 bill and put the change for one $7 drink into the tip jar without trying to offer it back the change and the person had to request the change back where he had to pull it out of the tip jar. another time i have order a drink and was told my $8 drink i had multiple of that night was $10 and put the excess in his tip jar. I am not a Shystie tipper and I was gonna give him a 10 anyways so I let that one go but the $20 bill thing I find incredibly out line. $12 tip for a seven dollar drink is a steep by anyone's account. i'm not really sure what this guys deal is, but it's pretty messed up. multiple other people have complained about being overcharged on their tabs over the years. I'm pretty sure it's this guy doing it. I would be wary of opening tabs there and I would keep track with an itemized receipt. read more

We ended up ordering the watermelon frozen margaritas - I could be wrong but I think they change up their frozen cocktails quite often. If you come across it on your visit, I would definitely recommend it. They had a variety of beer options and even though I didn't order any food, their menu looked appetizing. They have a cool vibe with an expansive patio setup. If you get the choice between small/large cocktail, get the large. The price comparison is $7/10 and the large seemed like a way better deal. The birds above can be a little bit of a nuisance so try and sit somewhere with less tree above. They were also very Covid safe and instead of having everyone order in the bar, they had a makeshift bar setup outside where you would place your order. I love it here so much... the drinks are great.. the selection of booze is awesome.. the food is good... I could end the review at that and feel proud of it. I love the huge wall of wonderful graffiti across the street.. I love the way the inside of the bar smells like Panini when I walk in. I love the way the patio is covered by small trees so that at night when I'm sitting at the table drinking my beer staring at the wonderful art across the street it feels like I'm in a small shady forest. Did I mention the drinks are reasonably priced.. I have some issues with dirty east side hipster bars.. and while this is an east side hipster bar, it has all of the best qualities and almost none of the bad! Its a little out of the way and parking sucks, but who cares park somewhere else walk over here and have a great time! read more
