    Cheese Selections

We saw the large billboard traveling East on Highway 29 for Yellowstone Cheese and decided to make a stop. We were coming from California for a wedding in central WI and wanted some good cheese. The beautiful barn showroom and cheese plant was easy to find one mile off the highway, with a little help from Suri. We were impressed with the selection of cheese , ice cream and local products. The counter staff was responsive and informative. The prices were very reasonable, in fact, the lowest price we have ever seen on rich, dark local maple syrup. After viewing the cheese making operation through a window Laverne came out and introduced himself and answered our questions. He graciously gave us generous samples of their cheese. Once home we indulged in their signature Colby Longhorn cheese and were not disappointed. We will be placing a mail order this fall. We left on a warm day with delicious ice cream cones.

After just touring Lambeau Field in Green Bay, I was heading to Minneapolis, Minnesota and stumbled upon Yellowstone after viewing a billboard for a fresh Wisconsin cheese farm from the side of the road. I'm a fan of cheese and I thought to myself how could I not pick up some cheese after spending a few days in America's Dairyland?! Yellowstone Cheese is located in the middle of the state of Wisconsin, about 1 mile off the highway in a little town called Cadott, roughly a 2 hour drive from Green Bay. Not only was I buying some fresh homemade cheese for myself as a snack, but since my mother loves cheese as well, I decided to package her some farm fresh Wisconsin cheese as an early Mother's Day gift. For a flat $20 fee, Yellowstone will safely package your cheese in a cold container sealed Priority Mail cardboard box (12 x 3.5 x 14.125). So you can stuff the box with as much cheese as you'd like for $20 which includes taxes and insurances for the perishable cheese if something goes wrong. That was a pretty good deal to have pure Wisconsin cheese sent to my mother's home in South Florida! I bought the cheese on a Friday, it was sent out on Monday and my mother received it on Wednesday...pretty quick with the delivery! One thing to mention, I visited Yellowstone last weekend April 20th, and they actually stop their packaged deliveries of cheese for the season beginning in May. So I was fortunate enough to receive a delivery before the end of their peak season. Once during the month of May, I'm not sure how long they wait until they begin back their packaged deliveries. I would think they wait until autumn, but that's just my guess. Once inside their retail shop (which reminded me of an old fashioned, antique gift store) a gentleman at the front counter assisted me with assembling my package. He let me sample some of Yellowstone's best cheeses and gave me guidance on what he'd recommend for me to purchase. Roughly each package of their cheese cost in the range of $5 - $10. So I bought a big variety for my mom to enjoy. I ended up spending $40 on the cheese and then with the $20 package fee, I spent $60 in total. It was well worth it as I got to enjoy some cheese on my road trip to Minneapolis while getting a cool little Mother's Day gift. Here are a few samples of cheeses Yellowstone offered.....Cajun Cheese (little spicy kick), Onion and Garlic Cheese (my favorite), Pizza Cheese (as you'd expect), Horseradish (not spicy, nice flavor), Vegetable Cheese, Monterey Jack Calico and Mild Cheddar. I also purchased a bag of Cheese Curds (delicious) which are "solid pieces of curdled milk eaten alone as a snack or used in various regional dishes". I'm really glad I decided to stop in at Yellowstone Cheese Farm. It was exciting to enjoy some fresh Wisconsin cheese and makes for a nice gift idea as well. Btw, they're open 9am - 6pm daily, and even Sundays 10am - 5pm. Yellowstone also offers ice cream, homemade jams, crackers, jerkies and a wide variety of unique complements to their homemade cheeses. If you're visiting the area, I certainly recommend stopping by to enjoy some of Wisconsin's finest while supporting a local family's small farm business!

Cheese! They even have a drive through

I don't have a picture because we ate it all too fast!!! We loved this little place. We loved all the free samples and went with the pepper jack and dill! We also got some heaven. Their fresh cheese curd!! We went with the original. We got there right after it was made and oh my gosh!! Loved the service. The sweet lady working had a bowl full of homemade chocolate whoopie pie and I got one and inhaled it! She was so nice

For my 500th review I present to you...... Squeaky cheese people!! SQUEAKY CHEESE!!! Now you're probably saying, "What the hell is he talking about, squeaky what.....??" Exactly what I said, squeaky cheese. Allow me to explain.... I was driving from Wausau back to Minneapolis and see a sign "fresh cheese 2.5 miles ahead" and think "Oooh, what better place to get some fresh cheese than in Wisconsin" RIGHT? Dooon'cha knooow! I take the exit and head South. After 1.6 miles I see a bright red building with large yellow letters spelling C-H-E-E-S-E and think "Gee, could this be the place?" http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yellowstone-cheese-cadott?select=Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA#sDpcyF2VWUh0bsfCYalfXA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yellowstone-cheese-cadott?select=Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA#Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA I walk in and see a good selection of cheese in the display case, plus tons more to choose from in the refrigerators. There are also bottles of maple syrup, jars of fruit preserves as well as other gift type items. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yellowstone-cheese-cadott?select=Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA#TCb17jnxuAs-y10lLph4WA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yellowstone-cheese-cadott?select=Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA#Ph4S7ygobbr5sYf5LBEc1A One thing that caught my eye were these bags of white cheddar cheese curds sitting out on the counter. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yellowstone-cheese-cadott?select=Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA#UjwCGiezE2_-NoOh8Vyg-g The guy behind the counter offers me a sample of the cheese curds and of course I MUST accept! I take one, bite down and "squeak"... wait, what? As I chew I continue to get "squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak"! I think "Am I chewing on a mouse here or what?" WOW! I comment about the squeaks and the very helpful (and very easy on the eyes) Kaeden explains the curds were made fresh that morning http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yellowstone-cheese-cadott?select=Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA#6xDp97zcaTxeZSx_d59xUQ and when the cheese is that fresh, it squeaks when you chew it. He also said it only does that the first day and will not squeak tomorrow.... he was right! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/yellowstone-cheese-cadott?select=Rb5sjIG26okj8G7rz6jQrA#eLklqzSBXCsp0Ht1qHYS7w I look around and make a few selections. Being I'm only here a few days, I ask Kaeden to "half" the portion size of each and he happily does so. OVERALL: If you've ever had Wisconsin cheese before, you know it's good stuff. If you've never had fresh cheese or cheese curds made that same day, you really owe it to yourself to try it, so you too can experience the "squeak".

Best tasting cheese curds! I buy them at local supermarkets in Wisconsin and take them back to Missouri.

The waitress wasn't overly friendly, but whatever; the worst part was not being given straws for huge glasses of soda, or utensils. The best part was the appetizer of deep fried mushrooms. The avocado chicken caesar salad was so-so, it was just that the chicken, cucumbers, croutons, etc., were bland and the caesar dressing was like pale ranch dressing (which was just super odd). The classic burger had a thin, dried out patty. We would not bother to stop again.
