Yenking is the best Chinese food restaurant in Jackson County Michigan and probably one of the best in the state. We either eat there all the time or call for for fast fresh take out. The General Tso's and Princess Chicken are our favorite dishes and the Crab Rangoon is our favorite appetizer. The hostess who is also the owner is always friendly. They have very nice decor and the place is always busy at peak dinner hours. read more

I read the yelp reviews and gave this place a try while traveling. Probably should have left right away when the odor of garbage hit us at the door. Also, ice water was very bleach-tasting but that might be how it is in Jackson. Menu was promising. Inside of crab Rangoon was good-had green onion so that was a plus. Sweet and sour sauce was good. Yen king lo-mein was fine. Rice seemed cheap. Yen king cocktail was fine. Yen king chicken was adequate but there has to have been a better choice. The sesame beef was really where things went south-had to send it back bc the meat tasted too old and reheated. Egg roll had more meat than cabbage so that was different and decent. Since I'm not from Jackson, I don't know if this town has a better option for Chinese but I would seek it out. read more

Nice Chinese restaurant. Food was good overall. The wonton soup was delicious and the General Tso's was good, a little spicier than most places, which is nice. It was a huge portion. For some reason I didn't like the egg roll, either the wrapper wasn't good or the fryer oil needed to be changed. The hot mustard was really good and strong. Unfortunately they don't have brown rice. My husband and I recently relocated to the Jackson area, and it was time to find a nice Chinese restaurant. First let me say tell you the good! The service was great, everyone was very friendly, the atmosphere was nice, it was warm and very clean inside, and we didn't wait long for our food. Now my disappointment. I read many reviews and I had high hopes for Yen King, which increased when I was served a nice pot of tea and delicious egg drop soup. However, my hopes dove when I received my entree. I ordered the chicken egg foo young lunch, which did not include an egg roll. What I received was pieces of skinless boneless chicken, a couple of mushrooms, pea pods, bamboo shoots and carrots, in a lightly colored sauce, on top of one very small, approx three inch wide, patty consisting of egg and bean sprouts, two mainstays in egg foo young. This is not egg foo young like I have ever had, and believe me, I have enjoyed this common Americanized Chinese dish in many different locations throughout the United States. I have experienced variations in gravies and the types of veggies in the patties, but this was nothing I have ever encountered. The texture of the bean sprouts made it difficult to cut and chew, and the flavor was "OK". The chicken and veggies tasted wonderful, and if I had ordered chicken and veggies, I would be writing a different review. I was expecting something else, something like every other time I have ordered egg foo young over the past 35 years of my life, and this was not it. It did not taste like egg foo young, and did not satisfy the craving. I have always received either one or two nice sized patties, nothing like this little three inch patty. I understand it was lunch, and I expected a smaller portion, which I prefer. However, this blew my mind! My husband had the General Tso's chicken, which he enjoyed, but stated the sauce was a bit sweet. His dinner came with an egg roll, which he also enjoyed. I ordered an egg roll on the side and was not impressed. I am not sure what the "meat" was in the the filling, perhaps pork, but the texture of this substance was "grainy". It is very hard for me to find a good, freshly made egg roll that I enjoy, which is one reason I usually order spring rolls anymore. However, I read rave reviews about the egg rolls at Yen King, I had to try one. This is my "thing" so you may enjoy the egg rolls. But, if you are looking for egg foo young, keep looking. read more

Yen King is a partially secluded Chinese restaurant on the outskirts of Jackson. This is hands down the best Chinese food you will get in Jackson because the rest are those dumpy little "Backlit menu" Chinese places where the food all tastes the same. Honestly there isn't much to say about this place, it's your run-of-the-mill modernized Cantonese Cuisine you find at the aforementioned Chinese take-out places but done a bit better due to the mainly eat-in clientele .Also the prices are fair, they're representative of the portions you get which are typically pretty big. read more
