I went to Yerbaguena today with a group of friends, was looking forward to seeing the New place had been to the old place next door on numerous occassions and the service and food was always excellent. I had made a reservation for a group and we were seated upstairs. No issues the waitress brought chips and salsa and water while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Upon the arrival of the rest of our group the waitress returned for drink orders and I ordered the guacamole (to be made at the table). The guacamole was not made at the table but at a small setup by the door and bar. We all ordered. I had asked for soup with my order and expected it to arrive before my meal but it didn't arrive until my meal arrived and it was cold. There were 6 in our party and we all received lukewarm to cold food. One guest ordered the fajita, asking for no green peppers, with spinach instead but still wanted the onion and tomato. Her plate arrive with no tomato, no spinach, no tortilla's, no side (sour cream, guacamole, and no pico de gallo. She had to ask several times for the tortilla's, and sides and the waitress said there was no spinach. The waitress appeared to not understand English because she laughed serveral times when we asked about the items missing from this guest's plate. Another guest at our table asked for the combination plate with no beans, and another guest also asked for a different combination plate. When they were brought out the waitress got them mixed up and were given to the wrong guest. When my friend stated that she had asked for no beans and that it was not the correct order they took the plate back and returned it with again the wrong plate with beans. We asked to speak with a manager and he came to speak with us. As he was speaking with my friend about her missing sides to her fajita's, my other friend said something about the order and the manager stated who am I talking to you or her. He cut off my friend completly when she stated that she had gotten her food three times and three times it wasn't right. I tried to tell him that all of our food came out lukewarm or cold and he stated that it was Tuesday, they were busy and if you sit upstairs you have to expect that your food will come out colder and take longer as it has to come up on a dumb waiter. How silly of me to have thought that if you made your restaurant bigger you might have made your kitchen bigger to accommadate the larger crowd you would get daily. As we were speaking to the manager we asked to speak with the owner and he stated that he was the owner. Dinner was such a huge disappointment. The old restaurant we raved about and told a lot of our friends to come to and enjoy. Unfortunately that will not be the case after what we experienced today. read more

My husband and I came in to eat dinner last night, we had a night out without the kids, I was really looking forward to it! The drinks were great, the margarita and the pina colada were both delicious and wish I could have tried more. I ordered the chicken fajitas which were good, not great, but I felt like the flavor was delicious! I should mention the fajitas come with 4 tortillas. The issue was getting the bill and we realized we were charged .95 for extra tortillas for my fajitas. This made me really upset. The waiter did not explain that I would be charged for more tortillas when I asked, and he brought them out without saying a word. I will never come back to this establishment. I can't believe I would be charged for this and especially without an explanation. read more

My boyfriend and I pass this place every time I pick him up from the Metra station and we had to try it! It's adorable outside and inside. Very clean and has a fun atmosphere. Delicious food and drinks, but it is a little pricey for a casual night out. read more

I don't know why I put off going here for so long. I mean, a super cute exterior sign usually equals great food, right? I ended up getting the spicy shrimp dish since straight veggie was pretty tough to come by. I thought my dish was good but I wasn't expecting my spicy dish to be so sweet tasting, as sweet dinner delights are not something I'm a big fan of. I would have also liked to see a little more variety amongst the plate. Some different sides or something beside the too-sweet-for my taste sauce and peppers. On the other hand, the 3 other boys I had been dining with wholeheartedly loved their meaty dishes... so maybe, it's a go meat or go "meh" situation. The service was decent, though there was a bit of a language barrier and I did feel like we were rushed a bit. The decor inside is aight, but definitely not as cute on the interior as the super fun purple neon exterior led me to believe it would be. And consider this your warning about the women's bathroom situation. You see, it's in a really awkward spot in the restaurant so please, ladies, double and triple check to make sure you've locked the door. It opens out to the rest of the dining room and you're prob not gonna want the whole place to get an eye full if another patron attempts to use this single stall potty. On the up side, it's a really nice bathroom. I'm talking immaculately clean and probably the sweetest smelling "John" that you'll ever use (keep in mind this is also a Mexican restaurant... and we all know that sometimes the things that happen in the bathroom after eating heavenly Mexican food, are not always heavenly). Major props for a bano that's nice enough to be called a VIP lounge. Oh, and big ups to them for dishing out the extra cash for a sweet ass Dyson hand dryer. All in all, it's not a place I can't wait to go back to, but it is a great little sit down Mexican place as long as you aren't vegetarian and don't mind spending a bit more dough on your meal. read more

Can an hermano get some decent servicio on Cinco de Mayo? I know you're packed to the gills and all, but shouldn't you be kind of expecting this sort of thing? The reviews were promising. Our wait time at 7:30 on Cinco was not. Came here with Melissa H for some Cinco fare. We were quoted an hour and decided to tough it out. We would've just waited outside underneath the tent with the mariachi group, but it had started to rain. So we packed into the bar. After about 20 minutes, a busboy had cleared off a small two-person table, literally in the middle of the dining room, and motioned for us to come over. We debated, but decided to wait, since the line for the bar would've given us a faceful of booties during our dinner. Seemed kind of odd that he gave us dibs. After about 45 minutes, I checked back with the hostess, and told her I knew we still had some time left. She informed us there were 3 parties ahead of us. Then, we watched as those three parties, plus another 3 or 4 were seated. After checking back, they had skipped over us hardcore, and the hostess blamed it on the fact that there was another guy named Anthony who got seated (my name is Tony, get it?) and she thought I was him. If that was the case, then why hand out pagers at all if the right hand doesn't know who the left hand is seating? And even so, they had still skipped way over us and didn't attempt to check out who/where we were. Some people weren't lucky enough to get pagers, so they were relying on just calling out names hoping they had stuck around. But no one was taking down the times that guests put down on the list, so how could they verify how long the wait actually was? Our server Natalia was outstanding, and the only reason Yerbabuena gets an extra star. She gets five just for herself, as she told us to take as much time as we wanted because she "saw us waiting a really long time for a table." The food was decent, and extra kudos for the frosted glass for my Victoria beer. No apologies except from the gentleman who seated us + no checks on us from anyone other than Natalia = no real good reason for me to be back. Lo siento, Yerbabuena. read more

Great little Mexican restaurant on Main Street in Lisle. I went a couple of months ago before the current construction on Main Street really kicked in to high gear, when they still had outside seating that was doable. They do have outside seating now but it takes up most of the sidewalk and everyone going through to get to the other shops has to traipse through your lunch. We elected to sit inside today, but my experience a few months ago matches my positive experience today. Then I had the tacos de tilapia - excellent. Very fresh, not greasy. Today I had the Veggie Burro. I'm not vegetarian, but this burrito was very tasty and uuuuuuuuugh I'm so full. It had great refried beans with some guacamole, as well as some good grilled onions and peppers. I adore their salsa, and the chips come out still hot (they could be hot from a microwave, but ignorance is bliss). We had good service from a very attentive older gentleman... he brought us extra napkins and all of us water when one of us asked for it. I paid $12 for lunch, including tip but not including any beverages. read more

Fact: It's not a regular lil taco place but an upscale Mexican eatery. Fact: You won't go wrong with the quality and the quantity. I'm a big veggie taco and/or burrito fan, they put cactus in there! Shazzam!!! Yerbabuena also specializes in their homemade tortilla chips, guacamole, pico de gallo, also green and red salsa. I have client parking issues because of this restaurant any but I'm not complaining! Any business to Lisle is great and I welcome it. Miguel the owner is helpful and present often, they have an outside patio and eatery with umbrellas were you could spend time sipping a margarita. On a blistery hot Saturday, noonish, after skipping breakfast, we were starving. After debating local options including the beloved Potbellys, we decided to try this place, it's over by my dentist on main street. There is a nice outdoor seating area, but we opted for inside due to the heat. The food here is terrific - I ordered the pork tacos with pineapple and my bf ordered a big chicken burrito. It wasn't called that on the menu, but literally, it was a HUGE chicken burrito. The entrees come with rice and beans, and it is worth mentioning that I normally don't bother with the beans, but Yerbabuena's beans are not refried, but instead served whole and intact. Very tasty. For those thirsty individuals, there is an extensive margarita menu, available in individual, pitcher, and half-pitcher. We will definitely be back. read more

Visited this restaurant this evening during one of the Lisle cruise nights. Brought my girls and ate with my parents. My parents had the appetizer size quesadillas. My kids had the kids tacos with a side of fresh cut mango which they loved and devoured. My dinner was yummy with 3 shrimp tacos. My 8 year old was still hungry and ate my side of black beans. My only complaint- music was way too loud. You couldn't carry on a conversation with people at your table. Even my 13 year old daughter complained about the noise. read more

Pretty darn mediocre suburban midwestern mexican food. It was fine if that is what you were looking for. When I was 20 I would have loved this place. All the margaritas are made with a mix which had corn syrup in it, so none for me. Really, a margarita made from a mix isn't a great sign. Waitress had no idea which items might be vegetarian and which weren't, and didn't really seem to care much about it. I'd say if you have no food questions and want a nice beefy deep-fried chimichanga this place is great for you. This is the best Mexican place around, it's been a hidden gem of Lisle for years! They just moved into a brand new space that is now 2 stories and has a gorgeous second story patio. My husband and I have been here before and had exceptional service , however, this time around Keeli (if that's how you spell her name) and the manager Margerie or something with an M were horrendous!! My husband called and MADE RESERVATIONS for us an hour and a half before we got there for outside. When we arrive I'm told they don't take reservations for outside and I asked her why weren't we told that when we called? She looked at me with a blank stare and then says oh idk who told you that it must have been a communication issue. My husband then walks in after parking our car and she then tells him I'm the only one who takes reservations so idk what to tell you but then said it wasn't her or possibly her... which is it? Make up your mind!! Then we ask to speak with a manager because this is just unacceptable and her attitude was terrible but after encountering the manager I'm not sure who was worse! We made a last minute decision to dine here tonight, and unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed. We had high hopes with a line out the door and a 35 min wait time to get in; the menu also looked enticing with some unique options that offer a little edge. Right off the bat, my husband and I tried to order and both (different) entree items were unavailable as the kitchen just ran out. They used our table to train which was fine because we finally received attention. The salsa & chips were mediocre at best. The enchilada suiza was bland and falling apart as if it was sitting out and the beef taco was nothing to write home about without an ounce of flavor. We had to stop here for a dinner but I would never come back. Food wasn't good. I expected something really Mexican, tasty and full of flavors. Instead, I've got some overcooked chorizo sausage with two scoops of mashed potatoes and 4-5 shrimps. I didn't even feel that it was Mexican dish. Though, my friend liked their taco soup. I didn't try it but I give them two stars just because she said it wasn't that bad to give them 1 star. The place is busy but they don't have enough space. We had to stand up or move back and forth each time when someone was going to seat nearby (we had central table). I didn't feel comfortable. I went to the restaurant for the first time two weeks ago. The food was fresh and delicious. The wait staff was absolutely on top of it all and super fun. My only complaint was the red haired hostess early middle aged. She was noticeably grumpy, bordering on sour and dismissive of us. I almost took it personally, when another diner mentioned that she truly lacked personality! True that!! Iike the restaurant but would like to avoid her again. I will return, just not too soon. Do you like strong margaritas the size of your head and extremely flavorful and intense Mexican? Then Yerbabuena is the place for you. It's the best sit-down Mexican restauraunt at its price point in the Western suburbs, no holds barred. Word on the street is that they'll shortly be expanding to a larger space, which is probably the only downside of going there - they're tiny, and you will have to wait at peak times. But the food is well worth it. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal there, but the special they're offering this summer with 4 kinds of tacos - including a balsamic steak taco that is just unbelievable - can't be beat. My boyfriend and I came in on a Thursday after I got off the train, probably around 4:30. We wanted a margarita and ended up splitting a pitcher. We had mango. It was very good. We were planning on just stopping for a drink and to check out the spot, but we were enjoying ourselves and decided to stay longer. We split steak tacos and were very pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the meat and tacos. I also enjoyed the endless chips and salsa. Tonight was our first time there. Called at 4:30 today for a reservation at 6. Food was above average. I had a chimichanga my wife had mango shrimp and the kids had quesadillas. I had a nice marg...Cadillac with silver pardon. Pricey at $12 but good. Would have been 4stars if the host staff was not so disrespectfully, at least the head hostess. She was very rude to my wife and three small kids in tow (I was parking the car) saying the restaurant didn't take reservations for five and smashed our family at at four top. In fact our reservation WAS there but she didn't seem to care, had horrible tone and body language....like she hated being there. The entire place seemed cramp, not cozy. They are doing a million dollar expansion next door and better get their act together and be more welcoming to families, after all this is the burbs. I'm not going to drop $100 on a meal and be treated like that. She ruined our meal and impression of this place. Will not be back and will definitely tell our friends. Sadly our waitress was wonderful but it was lost on me/us. read more

We have been here several times. Last Friday was the first time this summer we have gone. Was a great experience. Patio atmosphere was wonderful. The owner Miguel let us try a shot of a new tequila. I had the steak tacos. Meat was very flavorful. Best part of night was the Jalapeño Margaritas. We will definitely be back. Also very excited to see the new location when it is complete. Went to dinner tonite with my family. Ordered the "fresh" guac, tasteless and was as thick as concrete. Took 20 mins to get our drinks, and two of our three meals were cold. Not to mention the cheese enchilada meal was tasteless. The "red" sauce was nothing but a can of tomato paste with no flavors at all. The service wasn't great either. We went there last night for dinner around 6:00 pm and really enjoyed it. We wanted to sit on the upstairs patio/deck but that was full, as was the first floor patio, but they found us a great table off to the side in the main room. Despite it being very busy our service was excellent. Izzy was knowledgeable, personable, very accommodating and she was working her tail off all night. We enjoyed the food - loved the Mexican pizza app, and our entrees - various tacos and enchiladas were very good as well, and great Margaritas. The only negative was the chips and salsa. We sampled various salsas and loved them, Izzy made great recos, but the chips tasted like they were poured out of a bag - almost Tostito-like. Certainty not freshly cooked. If they step up their chip game they will get 5 stars. We will be back. for sure! read more

Talk about disappointing! Despite having a terrible experience with the restaurant in December with regard to reservations (got to the restaurant only to be told that they were closing for the night w/o any explanation despite having people waiting to be seated at the door and the restaurant being completely full), I wanted to give the restaurant another try. My mistake. Arrived at the restaurant to celebrate my birthday and was promptly seated. The booth was tight, crowded and uncomfortable. Water, chips and salsa were promptly delivered to our table and that's when the experience went downhill. Our server was surly and appeared put out with our requests for additional water and beverage refills. When we asked for additional water, he brought out a brown bottle filled with tap water (no idea whether the bottle was sanitary and/or followed food safety guidelines), I ordered a cola product instead, and it tasted flat and blah. When our food order arrived at the table (carted out on a bus table cart -- again, not sure if this meets food safety guidelines), two of the three plates were cold and unappetizing. One of us ordered a cheese enchilada w/sides of rice and beans. The enchilada cheese wasn't melted and the rice and beans were cold. In fact, the beans were so cold that the cheese on top of it never melted. We asked our server to reheat the dish, and he grabbed it without acknowledging our request. When the plate was returned, it was just slightly warmer. The rice and beans on the taco dish were also cold and remained uneaten. The only meal that came out hot was the fajita dish. Based on the reservation debacle in December and the disappointing/unappetizing food and surly service on March 17, 2015, I will not patronize this restaurant again and can not recommend it to anyone who cares for quality food and service. read more

I came here on a recommendation from a friend and I was very pleased. We came on a saturday night and although they were busy we did not have to wait long. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some very fresh mango margaritas while we waited. We had our dinner out on the upper level patio. It was a little chilly but comfortable thanks to the outdoor heaters. The food was fantastic. Between the 3 of us there wasn't a scrap left on any of our plates. The price was very reasonable considering the good quality. Service was excellent. I can't wait to come back in the summer so we can sit outside on the upper patio again and sip some more margaritas. read more
