I have been in to see Kathy, who does a nice job cutting hair. Kathy rents a chair from the manager, who rents the shop from Yessy, the owner, The woman manager does nails and pedicures but can;t be trusted to keep appointments on time or follow safe practices in the shop. I took time from my workday to go for a pedicure at 10;20 am. I walked in and the manager was in the middle of a nail appointment, in a space the size of a postage stamp. She took me late and then wanted me to soak my feet inches away from herself and the nail customer. No regard for safe distancing, no regard for my time and effort to come to the shop. When I pointed out COVID is still a concern, she said, "I won't argue...you can wait or come back another time!" Anyone thinking of using this shop should be aware they may get stacked onto other customers, have their appointments run late or otherwise be disrespected. read more

Completely disappointed. It being my first time getting my hair done professionally. The owner YESSY did a terrible job with my hair. I went in there knowing I had dark hair but she assured me that my hair would come out just like I wanted, which was a balayage. I left her salon with orange highlights all over my hair, she missed a big dark strand of hair on the back and she gave me HOT ROOTS! I cannot believe she let me leave her salon looking like that! So unprofessional. I asked for a refund or some money back. I also expressed to her that I would not let her touch my hair again as I trusted her the first time and was disappointed. In the end, I did not get anything I wanted. I will never be back. I do recommend Glam Street in Grayslake. Danette did an amazing job and listened to everything I wanted. read more

Much like the review of Paola below, I had a similar experience with Yessy. I had a Groupon for haircut, condition, and highlights. I walked out with a medicore haircut, no highlights, an overall hair color too dark for my quick to grow gray roots, and $30 poorer. She talked me into overall color because my at-home coloring job was not very good. She told me $30 more for this. My understanding was that she would highlight my hair after she colored it, but she just proceeded to cut and style it (which I also didn't like). Now anyone who has been to a salon for color or highlights knows that highlights are much more time intensive, and almost always more expensive than overall color. So, not only did I not get what I paid for, I overpaid. I am mad at myself for this, but I did not want to have a dispute over services. We had a bit of a communication issue as it was. This was, by far, the worst groupon experience I have had. I did contact Groupon who promptly refunded my money, so at least I only paid $30 for a cut and color that I don't much like. I would never return to Yessy. read more

I've visited the salon a couple of times towards the end of 2021, and each time the owner (Yessy) spent most of her time jabbering on and on about some drama with past stylists she's worked with. I wasn't even there to see her, but she certainly makes sure everyone in the salon can hear her gossiping, as if we care. Completely unprofessional in my opinion, and my last visit sealed the deal for me. I don't even know who these former stylists are that worked at the salon, but I don't blame them for leaving! Also, the services provided are extremely limited, there isn't even a nail technician. I'll take my money elsewhere for more services, actual professionalism, and less high school drama. read more

Let me start by saying that it is very difficult to find a intelligent, friendly, caring hairdresser. So many are inexperienced. And there are a lot of people who only care about making money. Not actually helping their clients. Today I lucked out. I found Yessy through groupon. She's near my job, and was able to get me in the next day. It's like the heavens sent us to each other. Haha. The final product was beautiful. I felt comfortable the whole way through. I am most definitely booking with her for now on. I highly recommend Yessy. read more

Extremely rude lady on phone. I called to get an appointment for May 13 and she kept saying 30th. I tried really hard to explain in every way. Finally she got it and then I asked approx how much time it will take.. She said - I cannot tell you that .. Depends on what you are doing.. This was after I already told her I want haircut with full highlights... She continued pretty rudely.. I don't know what length or color your hair is... Blah blah.. Never calling back !! read more

I had a bad color job earlier in the day and was having an anxiety attack over my hair because the other salon did the most horrible highlights in history..they made me a blonde!! :(. I called and she told me she had gone home for the day but asked me what I needed and when I could be there. She ended up coming back and fixing my hair for me and I couldn't be happier with the results; I can't imagine it was an easy fix but she knew exactly what to do. Yessy is the best! After trying Groupon after Groupon, I found Yessy a few years ago at a different salon. My very first visit was like spending time with an old friend, that also happens to care about & take care of your hair. When that salon closed & she moved, I had to follow her. Her prices are so reasonable, especially considering the time & care she takes with her clients. I get consistently great hair, no matter what I get done. Whenever I'm there, I see her previous client leave with a smile & hug because she treats everyone like family. She always tried to accommodate her clients & works harder than any stylist I've ever seen. The salon she currently occupies is very comfortable & easy to find. I came here a couple months ago to get a haircut. I found Yessy on groupon and was impressed and thoroughly satisfied with my hair!! Well, I came here a week ago with another groupon, but this time the package had the haircut, deep conditioning and full set of highlights. Yessy and I talked about what would be done with my hair, and said that maybe I would be charger extra to tone my hair if the highlights didn't come out the way I wanted them to. So she bleached my hair for the highlights, and told me that she has to tone my hair. Me not being a hairstylist, I didn't know what to say or do. Did she really expect me to go through the hair looking like a raccoon?? And considering the length of my hair, she had to use two bottles of toner. $30 each!! And when she cut my hair, she cut it short, the way I wanted it to, and I was thinking, she should've cut my hair before and THEN do the highlights, at least leaving me pay an extra $30. The groupon did NOT save me money and was not given any specific details with being charged extra for the coloring. Once I complained, she said that she doesn't see the money from the groupon and that the coloring is where she gets money. That's BS!!!! Don't advertise something and do a half assed job!!!! Don't get me wrong, my hair turned out great, but I would like to be notified BEFOREHAND on how much money I would spend. I so wanted to give all 5 stars like other reviews but my experience was not 5 star. My cousin told me that she saw a deal on Groupon for this place so we both bought them making it a girls day. We booked the appointment for Saturday at 5. Saturday came and we get a call that she needs up to move the appointment or have us reschedule. The reason was something to do with her water. We asked does this mean she over booked ? We came in at 6 like we were told only to wait 24 minutes before she started on one of us. One person working on 2 clients when we arrived and now us two. She said our hair would be easy and fast we didn't leave until 9:40. She would start and walk away to another client. My cousin liked her hair and I wish I could say the same thing. When she 1st talked to me I told her I liked my bronze highlights. She took it upon herself to go light and I really think she left the toner on to long cause I have that white gray look that others like but not me. I did tell her that I don't like it and maybe it will grow on me after a few days. When we went to check out I was told it would be a extra 30 ever though I paid 55 for the Groupon. I paid it of course all I wanted to do was leave way to long to be in a salon. She rents a chair in a salon so don't think it's her salon when trying to find the place. I am sorry I came in but happy my cousin liked her hair. I don't want to have her fix it. I feel like that will only damage my hair more so I guess it's time to grow it out. read more
