Hubs and I stopped here for breakfast recently. The place was busy and people were waiting on food and coffee when we arrived. We were in no rush though so didn't let that bother us. It's a cute place but not very large. There's more gift shop than restaurant. We ordered and our food came in a reasonable time. Stacy, our waitress, was very nice and attentive, even though it was busy. But, I have to say, we make it a point to ask our server their name and engage with them. I don't see many people doing that, and that can get old for servers after a while. A quick, "...and your name is?..." and saying please and thank you, goes a long way. It's unfortunately, not what we see everywhere anymore. I ordered the French toast and scrambled eggs, which was fine, but more cold than hot. It was fine, but not great. Needed something to make it worthwhile. These aren't the $3.95 breakfasts anymore; you walk out with a $25 bill for 2 people. So, the food should reflect that. This is a fun spot for some nostalgia, they have a very basic menu with some yummy shakes and ice cream, however the food was just okay. Nothing overly special about it, but we all ate what we were served. The entrance is inside a pharmacy, and much is really fun and quirky, and makes it feel like a blast from the past. Stopped in for breakfast on a Tuesday at around 10am. Seemed like the only game in town for breakfast that was open. Place was busy and it looked like most of the customers already seated had menus and no food or drinks. The two servers seemed a bit overwhelmed. But frankly, in addition to the obvious out of towners and CDT hikers in the place, there had been a steady flow of local regulars. One "regular" in particular seemed overly demanding about getting his coffee and did not appear to be joking. Stacey, our server, put on a smile and made sure our coffee cups didn't run dry. I want to give a better Star Rating; but the food wasn't very good. It's breakfast fare and tough to get wrong; but sadly I've had better freeze dried meals from Back Packer Pantry. Came in on Friday, and they had to close early. Tried again on Saturday morning. They were out of the chicken fried steak and corned beef hash, so we just went with the classic breakfast. A little hole in the wall place in Ennis Montana that shouts at you from the 50s and 60s decor done tastefully. Some kind of a general Mercantile store attached with hardly anything on the shelves. Had had to walk through the store to get to the café. The ladies made me an excellent vanilla malt. And their breakfast was good but had to ask them to heat up the food. Short staffed like everywhere else but I wasn't in a rush. So no complaints. read more

WOW! This place was busy! Luckily most of the groups waiting for a table were families. My husband and I got the first table for 2. The servers were friendly and efficient. The wait for food was a little long, but as we were eating, about 9 tables got up and left. We were under the impression they were all together, so it is a good place for large groups also. The food was very good. Husband had sausage patty, eggs, hashbrowns and sourdough toast. I had the same with bacon and was unable to eat all of it. We went fishing in Ennis mt , we stopped by the Yesterday's soda fountain restaurant and ordered a two tuna melts, and potato salad, all I can say is disgusting, the potato salad was hard and just covered with mayonnaise no seasonings, the tuna melt had old fishy tasting -tuna probably old, and the cheese wasn't melted, money waisted, the young waitresses was the only good thing . read more

If I could have given less than one star, I would have. First off, the waitress was FAR beyond rude. Lots of poor attitude and a smart mouth. We should have left as soon as we had contact with her.. If you asked a simple question, it was met with eye rolling and nastiness. The food was sub-par, and my fries were actually cold to the touch. I honestly didn't say anything because of the attitude displayed by the waitress. The place looks pretty rundown, and the store that's attached to the restaurant is nothing but empty shelves and looks like it's going out of business. We like this cozy, 1950s-ish cafe and soda fountain located right on the main street of downtown Ennis, which is a nice little town to boot. Good menu, casually friendly service and good food. Always ask about specials as sometimes they don't post it, but it is ready to serve. Applies to breakfasts and lunches, of which we have had many. Parking on the street, very clean restrooms and the restaurant is one side of the building and the other is a composite store, drug store, souvenir shop and you-name-it collection of stuff. Not offensive, but carries a certain charm. We regularly stop her to refuel car and bodies when traveling to the Yellowstone Park area. Recommend you try it, too. read more

After a great week visiting Yellowstone and on our way back to the Seattle area, we decided to visit Ennis, Montana during the trip home. Talk about luck, we found a review for this place on Yelp and decided to go here for lunch. There was a 'Fly Fishing Festival' in downtown Ennis, so we capped off the event with a visit to the Soda Fountain. It was fairly busy, so I popped in there and grabbed the only free table I could find. Corrina the waitress came over to give me a menu. She was SO nice, and when she found out we had a party of six, she was able to free up another table and make room for us! She and Katie (another VERY nice and helpful waitress) gave us all water and told us about the daily specials. It was very difficult to decide on what to get, because it was all good. The local folks all come here, but they tend to eat between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., before the tourists show up. There are pictures of them on the wall, and you get this feeling that you're eating someplace very special. We saw 100% homemade milkshakes on the menu, and they aren't kidding. They make the ice cream, get their milk locally, make the whipped cream from scratch, and the shakes are very thick! You even get the extra shake in the metal mixing cup. Don't order this if you're counting calories, as you'll be breaking all the rules with one sip. I had the Southwest burger with homemade New England clam chowder (see my pictures). Very tasty! Again, the atmosphere, the staff, the FOOD and the prices make this place a must while in Ennis. By the way, we wish Katie all the best when she heads to Nashville next year. read more

My personal philosophy for judging restaurants has always been; food first, service a distant second. I understand some servers can have bad days-- we're only human after all. But this place took bad service to a new level. The inexperienced serving staff had no idea what was going on nor had any idea who was in their restaurant. Tables that just walked in were getting served right away while several other tables hadn't gotten menus yet. Long story short we weren't the only table to leave without getting food. Also, they ran out of pancake batter at 10:45 in the morning. Perhaps they have a lot of kinks to fix after their pandemic closure hence 2 stars. read more
