The Ennis Cafe has been a stop for me for 40 years. Still one of the best breakfasts in this part of the world. Yeah I know times have been tough in Ennis--as a local told me "no one can get help here" so sometimes there's just 3 people running the place. So it can be slow--I say so what! Quality, freshness, care, you will find it here. The vibe is relaxed and comfy--I love the counter when traveling solo. We both had variations on the Gallatin plate--wonderful cooked bacon, two huge eggs, cooked perfectly to order, hash browns and either a short stack or French toast. If you are HUNGRY--get the French toast--it is a awesome delicious "side" to go with the already full breakfast plate. The food was amazing here! The service however was not good at all. It took ten minutes to be seated and then another ten to order. It then took 43 minutes to receive our food, which was two orders of French toast and eggs. Next time we will continue driving to the next town. Really nice restaurant on Main Street the breakfasts are really good but I always get the buffalo burger and strawberry pie for dessert. The buffaloburger is really good and not as greasy as a beef burger. The strawberry pie is your normal pie with lots of strawberries it's a nice little local dinner. A fantastic setting for a cafe, and quality breakfast food to match. This cafe is actually 4 miles southwest of the town of Ashton, which makes this place feel like the middle of nowhere (but very, very scenic!). We walked in late in the morning and after ordering my necessary coffee, I ordered breakfast. I went for a classic breakfast; a short stack of pancakes, two eggs over easy, sausage and hash browns. The kitchen delivered in a big way! The scratch-made hash browns were perfect; crispy on the outside, hot and tender on the inside. Being in a state known for its potatoes I suppose I shouldn't have expected anything else. The eggs were perfect, and the sausage was cooked very well; smashed and very nearly burnt. But it tasted great, and cooking it this well was the right choice. The pancakes were the best; a bit tangy and *very* tall, tender. I haven't found another place that makes pancakes this good. Service was friendly and overall I just couldn't find anything to complain about. Worth finding and stopping for if you're in the area! read more

What a beautiful place to have a restaurant for 900 people population and many tourists. As this restaurant is on Main Street, I do have some main concerns that should be brought to chefs and waitresses, but here are my pros and cons. Pros: Excellent Food, many things on a breakfast and lunch menu. Kids options are listed on the main menu for adults, which should be visible to the parents at the table. NICE waitresses who are willing to help. Cons: At least for us.. long wait time for food. We got here at 12:05PM and we waited 40 minutes for the food. Quite long in my opinion, but it was delicious. I've only seen one chef in the restaurant, but if there's another one or two, I don't need to make it a con. But if that's the case, than that's why it was slow to come out. That's not too much of a bad thing because the food is so dang good! Overall, come to this place for delicious food, but for now expect a wait time of 20-40 minutes if you have a party of 4. read more

Charming café in Ennis! The Ennis Café reminds me of an old café like you might see back in Andy Griffith time. I enjoyed a traditional breakfast here on the way to Helena from West Yellowstone. The food was pretty good, and the service was great. The omelette was good, but had canned mushrooms which I wasn't expecting. We took a detour 45min to come here because yelp had 5 stars 50 reviews. A little skeptical but once here we realized right off it might be really good. It did not disappoint, worth the 5th star and I rarely give all 5. Food was amazing , and our waitress was very friendly and answered all of our questions about the area. I stopped by here for breakfast a couple of Friday's ago with my fiance and her parents. We had seen the Sunrise Cafe on Yelp earlier in the week and were already thinking about eating here whenever a resident of Ashton also recommended it to us. We arrived at around 10 AM to see a restaurant that only had two other occupied tables in it. There was a large room on one side of the restaurant that was not being utilized except for the bathrooms and we were sat on the other side. For my breakfast entree I decided to go with one of the lumberjack entrees and chose the large burrito with bacon and peppers and mushrooms. Whenever it came out a little while later I was impressed with how large it actually was. I dug into it and was enjoying eating it whenever the waitress came out with a dish of hash-browns. She apologized that they forget to put them inside my burrito but honestly I hadn't even noticed it since it was already full. The hash-browns ended up being seasoned nicely and I enjoyed all of the items that were in the burrito. By the time I had finished everything I was pretty stuffed and wouldn't be hungry again until some time around dinner. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. I loved the diner feel of this place and I thought the food was not only good but had some good value to it as well. read more

I was a little skeptical based off of the yelp photos and low number of reviews, but this place really does deserve 5 stars for breakfast The hash-browns are the best I've ever had! Be sure and order the hash browns with mushrooms, ham, and whatever else. The bacon was also cooked perfectly. I've seen some low reviews on yelp but only for lunch.
