Great spot to get a sack lunch for fishing. Pre ordering the night before is best, but they can do same day orders. I was running behind and they were able to accommodate me on short notice for 2 lunches. They were so helpful. The gas station was out of ice and they gave me ice for our cooler. Everyone there was super nice. I like how everything is individual wrapped in ziplock bags. We got a sandwich , pickles, chips, fruit, miniature candy bar, and a homemade cookie in each bag. The Pic A Nic Basket is my go to for gluten free breakfast and lunch. They use Siete gf wraps for their awesome breakfast burritos, and they don't fall apart! My favorite breakfast burrito is "The 287"... so delicious. Service is always with a smile and friendly conversation. There are a few tables to sit and eat in, which I've done more than a few times. As a solo traveler with a large dog, it was just right for getting an early morning bite to eat before heading out on the road. It had a home cooked appearance and taste. Employees are very friendly and helpful in walking you through the menu on the wall (though the menu already is user friendly and easy to navigate). The coleslaw was really good and all of our sandwiches were refreshingly flavorful and surprising-the bread is very fresh and had some subtle herbs/seasoning that just made it that much tastier! My mom had the curried chicken salad on carrot bread and loved it! I had one of the warm sandwiches and others at the table split a couple other warm sandwiches. We were all very happy and satiated! We visited here when passing through Ennis and chose the spot based on Yelp reviews and their menu selection. Also, it's Covid-19 time and I feel the restaurant did a great job promoting safe practices. Covid: * There are several outdoor tables, a few that have a nice shade option, and a nearby park with additional seating if all seats are full. * About every 20 minutes (or whenever a party would leave their table) a staff member would spray and wipe down the tables and chairs to disinfect. * All staff wore masks (properly) and wore gloves. * Food was served in styrofoam to-go containers. I'm not sure of this is normal practice or it's because of Covid but am assuming the latter. General observations - All of the staff were friendly and we liked the variety of lunch options available. Sandwiches were tasty and you could tell the ingredients were fresh. I chose the chips as a side but had food envy of other patrons who had the coleslaw. The location here is convenient, easy to park and access from the main road. We didn't need the restroom but overheard the staff direct someone across the street to the gas station. (I'm not sure if that's Covid related or if they don't have a restroom available in general.) We would definitely stop here again on a future trip to Ennis! read more

If you don't eat here, you're missing out. I really wanted to try everything on their breakfast and lunch menus, all of it sounded mouthwatering delicious. But since my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, I decided on the Breakfast Burrito and it was excellent. One of the coolest things is they will wrap your lunch ready to go into your cooler for later for just a dollar! I wish I lived closer so I could try all their menu items and baked goods! My family visited Pic A Nic Basket for the first time since new ownership and am very thankful for another great lunch option in Ennis. I had the "Basket" (grilled chicken sandwich), which was flavorful and did not weigh me down causing that dreaded post lunch slump that fried food causes. This was a tiny hidden gem. We found it on our way to Yellowstone in a tiny old town and just wanted to pick up a quick bite. The baked goods at this place are soooo good! We had the cinnamon roll (huge and reasonably priced!) and the bacon maple scone. Both were greasy baked that day. They were moist soft and flavorful! We also had a chai tea, caramel macchiato, and vanilla/caramel latte. All the drinks were good. The mammoth (corned beef and herbed cheese sandwich) was delicious! We ordered breakfast burritos/sandwiches from The Pic A Nic Basket two days in a row before we went out fishing. These things were TASTY! The breakfast burritos were huge and a great value. The burritos were hot and fresh! We had our guides grab them around 6:45am so we could eat them on the way to the river. These were perfect as it we didn't have to cook at the cabin and could get on the road with a hot meal in our hands. These things were so big we ate half and ate the other half on the river. I would recommend the breakfast burrito over the sandwich as it had more flavor with the Chorizo in there. Just by luck we overnighted in Ennis at the ElWestern and had breakfast at the Pic-A-Nic Basket. After visiting Yellowstone we loved this reference to Yogi and BooBoo. I had the breakfast sandwich with Canadian bacon on the lightest biscuit I've ever eaten. And it was straight out of the oven. Mmmmmmm. My brother ordered the big breakfast with two eggs, sausage (which he said tasted homemade as well) and hash browns. He was stuffed to the gills by the time he finished. What a feed! Seeing them on the counter, we ordered a fresh huckleberry oatmeal square and cinnamon bun to go and sampled them later. After being on the road for two weeks, this was by far the best meal we'd had. Only disappointment with this place is they closed down for a few months over the winter. I LOVED their sandwiches, both hot and cold, and coffee, desserts, everything really. My son had the canadian bacon one and inhaled it -- sooo good! All on a fresh, homemade biscuit, flakey buttery loveliness....Mmmm. My Dad said the breakfast burrito was really tasty.
