My son decides to pick up one of the little grout samples and the Asian lady says, "Kids, let's not touch." I took that as an opportunity to ask questions and I got short and condescending answers. In that moment, I knew my pregnant self was going to blow so I grabbed my kids and decided to skiddaddle. Unfortunately for them, a Caucasian lady happened to walk in and was immediately acknowledged. I couldn't stay silent. I marched right up to the lady at the desk and asked why I wasn't helped until my child touched something. She said, "I'm sorry" and pointed at her computer. The TLDR/most important…read moretakeaways are: make your order in person and be assertive about asking for help rather than waiting for staff to come to you First, I visited every place that sold countertop and tile in the east Bay Area. USSS&T had the best prices by a significant amount. I looked at all their options, got quotes, and went home to think about it. I ended up returning in person to place my order, and I STRONGLY recommend anybody who wants to place an order do so in person. Most of the staff do not seem to have English as their first language so a miscommunication might be more likely to happen over the phone. Also, when I picked the stone I wanted for my countertop, they actually allowed me into the warehouse area where I was permitted to pick which slab I wanted of the ones available. That's not an experience most places will offer. They helped us load the tile into our car and we scheduled a time for them to install the countertop. Brief note that I emailed them about making an order the same morning that I decided to go in person, and they took over two weeks to reply to my email. So again, ORDER IN PERSON. They arrived at the time they'd said they would. I will say they told me they'd arrive "after 1pm", and the day of installation around 11am I got a call from USSS&T saying the installation guys would actually be arriving an hour early, at noon. They ended up arriving at 1pm anyways. So they got right down to business, very efficient and polite, made sure to check in with me and my contractor at each step. The whole thing was done in about 1.5 hours. I really recommend them. I also want to note that some other reviews mention the staff members seem unenthusiastic or rude. There's obviously a cultural difference here. The staff members were never rude or anything to me, they were very professional. If you want help at the store you can't just wait around hoping for somebody to approach you. You have to go up to a staff member and ASK to be helped. At this point they are happy to help and will be very efficient. They are also all knowledgable so no matter who you get to help you they'll be able to answer any question you have.

We had a slight misunderstanding (on my part) on day 1, but the installation team worked with me to get the project back on track. Despite my not being on site during the job, they did a great job. The work was great. They cleaned up like they had never been there, and the attention to detail (corner work, alignment of seams, etc) was exceptional. Very respectful of the house as well. In the store, Randi did a great job in helping me spec out what I needed and my options. I will say that I had a competitive bid, and USST was about 10% less... but it wasn't just price. They did a great job.

We are so impressed by this place. Since we came with a diagram and measurements of the slabs ready, we received a quote on the spot, and we were shocked that the quote was about half the price of a nearby competitor and a fraction of the price of estimates for stone and installation online. They were very accommodating and super helpful generally. Once we paid for the stone in person a few weeks later, we went to the back to choose the 3 slabs. They were helpful in telling us which slabs might not be as nice considering we wanted smaller patterns. Then on the day of our kitchen renovation, the men who came to cut and sand the stone in our kitchen and took the whole day. They were really careful and made sure it fit perfectly. After spending considerable time choosing the perfect slab, I was told it had been sold to someone else. This showed a serious lack of organization and gave me false hope during an already stressful renovation. The owner, Al Ong, told me he would compensate me for the inconvenience, but I never received anything or any meaningful follow-up. The communication throughout the process was poor, and I was left feeling that customer service was not a priority. Based on my experience, I found the team to be disorganized and lacking the professionalism and attention to detail I expected.
