We celebrated our daughter's birthday at Yani's in the small private room, and it was an absolute blast. The place was packed and buzzing with energy, which added to the fun. While it was a bit hard to get drinks at times because of how busy it was, the drinks themselves were excellent and well worth the wait. The appetizers were terrific, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the whole place has that old-school, tight-but-lively restaurant and bar vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. The belly dancer was the perfect surprise and an added piece of fun that really elevated the night. All around, it was a great experience, and we'll definitely be coming back--next time for dinner. read more

My absolute favorite neighborhood restaurant. We only did appetizers tonight. There were three of us. 1. Octopus 2. Tzatziki and pita 3. Chicken livers 5. Dolmas The octopus was cooked to perfection. It had a nice smokey, charbroiled flavor. I normally don't eat liver, but this was delicious and a wonderful texture. The domas were served warm and wonderful. And the tzatziki was to die for. Had the Greek burger from a Sacramento establishment that sells burgers and brew... Yianni's Marko Burger puts it to SHAME!! A half pound combo of ground lamb and ground beef grilled perfectly, melted kasseri cheese, sriracha mayonnaise, grilled onions... Excellent!! I have lived down the street from this place for about 20 years. I am embarrassed to say I just came in last night! Because wow have I been missing out!!! You can tell a lot of regulars and locals come in. Which I love the vibe of being comfortable with friends so long as I am welcomed! The staff was super inviting and quickly made us feel like we were one of them. We started with clam chowder which was so full of flavor more than any other it wasn't just plain cream with clams it was seasoned perfectly. Then we had a small Greek salad which has the freshest ingredients and something I would get every time. Then came saganaki which is flaming cheese!! I mean omg it came out in flames so presentation was impressive. Not to be out done by the taste! It was cheesy but lemony and served with fresh pita! So good. Then we had the lamb chops with steak fries!! Freakin amazing!! A flavor explosion!! Cooked to perfection. We devoured it. Then we did a ribeye steak with veggies topped with blue cheese! Omg it was divine!! Also it was ordered medium rare and cooked exactly so! I love when chefs get it right the first time. For desert we had baklava ice cream!! Do I need to say more?!! Baklava Ice Cream! lol we loved it For drinks we had delicious lemon drops and cosmos!! So tasty we kept them coming! The waitress and bartender both tended to us and were awesome. Finally checked out Yianni's this week for dinner and what a homey welcoming little place! It is definitely a place where you can find all the locals, but it's part of the charm! We were welcomed by a very friendly server/hostess that made us feel right at home. We ordered one of the specials as an appetizer - Grilled Halloumi Caprese and for our entrees we ordered the Gyro Sandwich, Chicken Souvlaki and the Mizithra Cheese and Brown Butter Noodles. Everything was cooked well and had great flavor - my daughter devoured the noodles! I loved the charbroiled flavor on the chicken souvlaki and the homemade tzatziki sauce on the gyro! It was definitely some of the best Greek food I've had in town and rivals some of the other places we've tried. We'll be back for sure next time we're in the area! Check out Yianni's! read more

Food was great, the bartender was a little handsy with my female companion, and the young lady who took our order brought things out for us that we didn't ask for, but rather we were asking about. Basically, we paid for things we didn't order because she either wanted us to rack up a larger bill, or she just wasn't listening properly. Lord have mercy. I miss it when Nick (the original owner) had it. Back when this place had the energy of a greek mafioso establishment, with amazing food and an atmosphere that made you feel like family. I don't know if it's on it's second or third owner since Nick, but my goodness it's not the same. The good. The Dolma are still INCREDIBLE! Some of the best I have ever had and I am picky when it comes to specific greek fair. The mixed grill also hasn't changed. Thank God. The lamb shanks are delicious and the plate is just hands down delicious. The Avalemeno soup was pretty good. It actually lacked some lemon tangyness which is shocking considering how absolutely retched the Picatta sole was! I LOVE picatta. Veal, chicken, sole, you name it. i LOVE picatta. I think the chef used the lemons that should have been in the avalemeno and put it all in the picatta instead. It tasted like PURE LEMON JUICE cute with NOTHING. It was horrible. barely palletable. The waitress was completely clueless. She seemed busier flirting with the table of guys next to us then really caring about our experience. The other very weird server guy (not sure if it's the owner or not) came over and told me to order something else since I was so unhappy with the gross sole. I ordered the calamari steak, and he told me it would come with pasta. It came out with rice and was bland and mushy. Normally calamari steak is slightly chewy and a little dense but very easy to slice through. this was gummy and chewy and bland. I didn't complain. THank god my other half got the mixed grill. We have been talking about visiting this restaurant for quite some time and today was the day we decided to eat there. We walked in the door about 5 and were not sure, as there was no sign or stand, if this was a 'seat yourself' or 'please wait to be seated' restaurant so we asked the bartender as he is the first person we saw. His response was 'Do you have a reservation?'. We said no and he said to a customer at the bar ' No one makes a fucking reservation; This is going to be a bang up night.' As we were there with my parents in their mid and late 80's we were more than shocked at this statement. I asked if we should choose somewhere else to eat and he said 'Whatever you want'. We left and chose to spend our money and enjoy dinner at a restaurant nearby. I am told this bartender has worked there for many years and is friends with the owner/manager. Because of this I am sure he feels quite secure in his bartender position but I don't this is a way for any person to greet customers. Needless so say we have chalked this restaurant off our list and will not recommend to anybody. read more

This is a dumpy, very outdated bar with a few restaurant tables. There is no ambiance. It's very small. The service is very lacking. We waited quite a while to order. The menu is very limited but there were quite a few specials. The flaming cheese dip smokes the whole restaurant out. As soon as it seemed to clear another order would come out and smoke the place out again. The dolmas come piping hot, which is strange to me. Ordered the large Greek salad that is ridiculously small. The salad was good with heirloom tomatoes but was too expensive for the size. It was considered the large salad but really an appetizer size. The prices are way too high for what you get. read more

So this was an interesting visit. We had stopped by on a Wednesday and had a couple beers, didn't realize it was a full restaurant, we thought it was just a bar from the outside. We were told about the live belly dancing they have on Fridays and thought, why not. We invited another couple to go with us. They got there around 6 and we didn't get there until about 6:30. They mentioned they ordered a couple drinks after waiting for about 10 minutes with no one checking on them. We all had drinks, and meals. We told our waiter that we wanted to split the check and he said no worries, but never wrote anything down. We were there for a total of about 2 hours and the waiting around was the worst part. They only had one waitress and a bartender working both bar and tables. Kind of a nightmare on a night they are trying to promote. Worst part of the night, we get done eating and receive our checks. He split them right down the middle even though we didn't order 4 of the things on our check. I'm not going to make a scene, who cares. We go to pay our checks and due to the service being so bad, the other couple did not tip nicely. After about 8 minutes of sitting at our table, we walked up to the bar to pay since no one came to our table for our check, the waiter said "$20 tip on a $100 tab, fuck that shit!". He was speaking about the couple we came with. For the amount of waiting we did, not having our check split correctly, he should be thankful he got a tip at all!! Not ok! The food was delicious so it's kind of a shame that we heard him say that, because we most likely won't be back! read more

The food here is amazing! I haven't had anything I didn't like. They always have a specials board that changes all the time. The Greek Mixed Grill is my go-to. The lamb chops are to die for. And the best thing of all is the Baklava Ice Cream. Don't leave without trying it. Small place with a large bar and it can get a bit loud, but I like the relaxed atmosphere. read more

A causal neighborhood Greek spot that is darkly lite. Came here for birthday and did not disappoint. This is definitely a mom and pop shop and while the decor was dated it didn't matter with both the quality of food and service from staff. Staff explained menu items that we were unfamiliar with. Hummus and tzakiki sauce were some highlights from the appetizers. My lamb shank was so tender that it easily fell off the bone. Lots of wine option and I wonder if they were a full service bar based on the set up. Would come here again if I'm ever back in Carmichael. read more

I stopped at Yianni's Bar & Grill on Friday for lunch. First time I had been there. Interesting place. At least at lunch ... the entrance was on the side of the building, and as you enter, you immediately walk into an inviting bar area. There was table seating along the opposite wall. This Bar and Grill had a comfortable neighborhood establishment look and feel. The inside was a little dated, but the atmosphere was pleasant and somehow the space had a classy vibe. For example, the tables included white tablecloths. Service was excellent and the menu was interesting and varied. Decent wine selection both by the glass and bottle. I ordered Franciscan Cab from Napa Valley. Next, I had a cup of Avgolemono (lemony rice and chicken in a silky broth). This soup turned out to be tasty and satisfying. Next time I will go for a bowl versus cup. I follow this appetizer with a Gyro and a side Caesar Salad. The food was well presented and very good. The Gyro was served with whole pieces of thinly sliced, flavorful meat. This sandwich included tomato, onion and yogurt sauce on pita bread. The Caesar Salad was fresh and abundant. Ok what happened to your menu for starters? No more sampler entree? So okay I figured when I walked in the door they were busy since we stood there for 5 minutes looking at a 10 year old wrapping utensils at a bar..but no,just the owners there working out their grievances with one another and not paying attention to actual customers. My wife and I now know in great detail everything they need to pick up at the grocery store along with their daughter breaking a floor tile...so much excitement. Not! Ordered the gyro plate...first thing I noticed were some canned French style green beans ( doctored up ) rather un Greek like laying in the middle of the dish laying in can juice. Meat was dry and salty and rice was used with bad chicken bouillon. A complete 180 from my last experience...sorry. read more

Our dinner there was fantastic. We went on a Friday evening, before the dinner rush. The caprese appetizer was wonderful. The Rib eye was grilled to perfection, and the sampler had a little bit of everything. Make sure to try the beer (Septem).
