We made a reservation for a Saturday night and were seated right away inside. We thought about sitting outside, but the outside area is pea gravel and with kids that can get pretty dirty. We were quickly greeted by our server and ordered drinks and appetizers. I ordered a Hugo Spritz which was delish! Amongst the adults we ordered the Thai Steak salad, Caesar salad, calamari, and a few pizzas. Everything was pretty good! They seem to have a variety of different options and I would be open to trying other things next time we go. I was able to order plain pasta with butter for my kids and they loved it - the portion sizes were pretty large. I have been to Matteo's a couple of times so I'm surprised I haven't written a review yet. My family and I came here last night for dinner around 6:30pm and it was pretty busy, but we were able to get seated within 10 minutes. We ordered the Fried Calamari with added Shrimp and Jalapenos, Buffalo Wings, The Matteo and a half Cheese Please, half Hawaiian. They ended up bringing us out Buffalo Cauliflower instead of wings, but our server said to go ahead and keep them free of charge - I actually enjoyed the cauliflower more than the wings. The Calamari was okay, I think adding the Shrimp and Jalapenos helped and the pizza was just okay too...I didn't think it was anything special. My sister in law and nephew both said that the wings used to be better and the buffalo sauce tasted different - it was more sweet than spicy. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the food, I remember liking it a lot more the other times we visited. Staff were very friendly, but a bit slow at times though. I like the ambiance and intimacy of Matteo's - it's a great place for date nights, but you can tell that the clientele is made up of mostly regulars and locals. This seems to be a good place for women's lunch groups. Mine was one of many. The garden atmosphere is shady with beautiful plants and a water feature. Very relaxing. Service was perfect and the food was very good. The ahi salad was done well but it wasn't on greens but noodles. Others had fish tacos and one had the Ceasar salad and they were all happy. I really can't believe I don't have a review here already! I love Matteo's so much. It's my local neighborhood gem but more than that the ambience makes you feel as if you were somewhere special. It's romantic and intimate yet family and pet friendly. All the feelings you want at any time. Food... menu changes and it never fails to be amazing. I do really miss breakfast pizza with that delicious chorizo. But if you get a chef who knows they still make it... secret menu?! Lol All the pizzas are great I could inhale the Matteo and usually do with a side of The Stu! The ranch is yummy too. CALAMARI LOVER?! I know I am! Guess what they take it up a notch and let you add shrimp and jalapeños! I mean?! Are you on your way in yet? Love their chicken sandwich as well. The truffle fries omg! This is not a review of the menu - instead, I want to express my gratitude to the staff, and particularly Tomas (sorry if I misspelled his name). My step-daughter and her husband recently celebrated their anniversary with dinner at the restaurant. Working with Tomas I arranged to have a congratulatory card delivered to the table at the end of dinner instead of the bill (which I had arranged to cover). Be aware of closing time! They close at 8:30 on a Friday night. We arrived around 7PM as a group of four. We sat in the bar and had intended on catching up over an endless rotation of apps and drinks. At about 8, staff started putting chairs on tables that had cleared. By 8:15 we got the hint and asked for our bill. We were out the door by 8:30. I love this great suburban restaurant and am really proud to have this establishment in our neighborhood! I just wish it stayed open until 10PM on a Friday night. We ordered calamari, wings and truffle fries to share. All delicious! The guys ordered beers from the tap and the gals had a few Aperol Spritzes, which were made to perfection! I love supporting this wonderful local business. Great atmosphere. Delicious food. We've always enjoyed a good meal at Matteo's. Usually selecting the place as a local upscale option for a celebration or dinner out with friends. This particular evening was in celebration of Woody's birthday. We were seared at a large table outside as there were 5 couples and a few singles in the party. A request was made to have the misters turned off as it was windy and fairly cool. But the mist was super fine and evaporated before it reached the table, creating a very comfortable cooling effect. The outdoor patio is lush with plants, trees and very unique fountains. Katie ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and I had the pan cooked filet mignon medium rare. Katie ordered a margarita on the rocks no salt and I opted for the Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon. The food was delicious as always and it was great to visit with our friends. read more

We came here for the Vegan Chef Challenge but they had vegan items on the regular menu so we ordered from that also. We wouldn't have never know about this place except for the challenge. We love have other places we can eat that have a variety of vegan items. The Thai soup was quite filling as it was full of corn and mushrooms. The sandwich which was smoked portobello mushroom in place of bacon of a BLT was quite yummy but the vegan version had salad instead of fries. The Asian salad in small was quite substantial. Had lunch at this restaurant today with a friend. They offer both interior and patio seating, but we opted to sit inside. The interior is old and dated, but seems clean. The best part of our experience was the service, which was outstanding. The food was good, but nothing exciting. When the bill came, both my friend and I were shocked at how expensive it was. For context, we each had one of their signature salads and two tap beers each. Somehow that totaled over $80. before the tip. Wow, talk about no value for your money. I recognize that everything today is ridiculously expensive, but for that price point I think you should feel like it was worth it. If you are in the Sacramento area and have a craving for a basic no flare pasta dish that is packed full of flavor you have got to try the Penne Bolognese made with Spicy Pork, Beef Ragu, Mushrooms & Asiago Cheese. This was hands down the best Bolognese I have ever experienced. The wife ordered the Chicken Parmesan which was also delicious and I love that they paired it with a creamy marinara instead of the traditional basic red sauce. If pasta is not your thing the burger that my son ordered was also delicious and well executed. Food: The worst part of the visit 2-28-2023. Perhaps it's a product of post-rona staffing struggles. Either way, both orders of fries were cold and limp. Cheeseburger looked medium rare (good) but was chewy, dry, and lukewarm. Onions were not fresh. I had stomach aches and bad gas after my meal. Lamb burger was a little better. Shrimp & mango salad had over-cooked shrimp. The worst? I asked for A-1 (to help wash down the cooled fries) and the server delivered a small bottle. Inside the bottle was crusty and sauce wouldn't come out easily. I'm glad it didn't as that's when I saw the best by date was March 2017!! Either very old or married too many times and not stored properly. Service: Gal was knowledgeable, patient, provided good service. I especially love to come here on warm summer nights and sit outside with the hanging bulbed lights, water wall and lush vegetation surrounding the outdoor patio area. It's wicked pleasant. Their menu is a good size and they offer specials and change up dishes based on whats in season. I really like their pasta dishes especially. This visit I hot the scallops and they were summer yummy and sliced like butter. I also got to try the salmon tacos which were good and satisfying and their roasted beet salad. That reminds me, I love their salads too. They also sell wine and if there's a wait it's fun to wander around their wine display and check out the different labels. Wonderful servers too and host. It was my Son's bday and he wanted italian. That can be difficult when vegan in Sac. We live right around the corner from Matteo's and decided to give them a try. We called ahead of time. They had multiple vegan items on their menu and our server was well versed on which items could be made vegan on the menu. Overall we had a nice experience. Food was nice. Restaurant was clean. Service was good. Definitely felt like a neighborhood bistro with many regular customers. The vegan chorizo tacos were very good. The south do the border impossible burger was very well prepared. Our made to order pizza with plant based cheese was nice. My daughter liked her pasta with marinara. Will hopefully dine at Matteo's again soon. read more

This restaurant is a neighborhood place. Food is always consistent and creative. My favorite dish is the lamb-burger yes lamb-burger with feta cheese perfectly messy and delicious. The Ahi Tuna salad also a favorite. If you are vegan this menu has something for you. Also if you need to do a little wine shopping they have one next door. I originally came here 15 years ago when it opened. My friend and food photographer for the Sacramento Magazine Rachel Valley asked for my help as we photographed many of Matteo's menu items. They were all delicious. I had since moved out of the area had been unable to return. Except for today. Being in the area, I had to return to Matteo's. We were seated by a very nice waitress, and as I told her the story of when I was here last, she remembered Rachel and I being here ! I recalled how good the fried calamari was and wanted to get it again. It was EXACTLY how I remembered it before : the breading was well seasoned and the calamari was fresh. With a quick spritz of lemon, it was all my taste buds needed to enjoy this remarkable side dish. My wife had the split pea and ham soup. It was hearty and filling and served with a sliced warm loaf of wheat bread. Awesome! Then came my entree: Pan Seared Scallops on White Truffle Infused Potato Gnocchi with Wild Mushroom, Asparagus, & Tarragon cream sauce. Oh my gosh! The scallops were perfectly seared and seasoned, and were still glistening as I cut into them. The gnocchi was fresh and soft and the cream sauce topped off this meal. I highly recommend this dish. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and quaint. It's not a large room, but that adds to the ambiance. Lighting and decor is warm and inviting. They also have an extensive wine selection, and while my wife and I were unable to browse through them, I'm certain you'll find whatever wine you're looking for. My first impression of this place was cute and romantic. It is a nice hidden spot in Carmichael. The Chicken fettuccine Alfredo was delicious. The short ribs was tender and fell right off. I don't remember the name of my drink but it was mediocre. I would come back again and try another drink. They have a nice selection of drinks. The waitress really knew her stuff and was super nice. We had heard good things about Matteo's but the quality of the food and ambiance (inside) did not live up to the reviews. We sat inside; the dividers between the tables were covered in dust. The hostess stand behind us had wine bottles as decor that were also covered in dust. The food was flavorless and overpriced for the quality. The cheesy bread was flavorless. The rigatoni was watery; pasta was starchy and came with a greasy piece of bread. I would suggest investing in a more delicate and authentic pasta. While, the gnocchi was fresh (the only thing that was decent), it was not worth $40. Because we appreciate good wine, we may go back for a wine event but would not go back to eat at this establishment. *The outside seating with the lighting and misters looked very cute. read more

I was very pleased with the crust (authentic), the taste, texture and how the flavors came down well together. I ordered online for pick up, and the restaurant is very pretty and would be a nice place to take date to. There is also outdoor dining. I sat on the patio and even though it's super hot out today it actually felt very nice I sat at around 5pm. The misters they have and the big tree kept it a perfect temp. Now to the food. I started with the cheese bread and the balsamic glaze it has with it is sooo good. Also had a Caesar salad also good. As my entrée I had the lobster raviolis( I forgot to take a pic) they were heavenly so flavorful. Carrie was my server and she was so attentive and kind and helped with suggestions. Quaint restaurant with wine shop in the corner of a retail center. Staff greeted and immediately sat us at a nice private table. The great service carried through the entire evening...including that the owner/chef came out to greet and welcome us. Food was excellent and well prepared. Never having been to the restaurant, I tried a couple of staples...Caesar Salad, and chicken Parm over penne pasta dressed in an tasty pink sauce (I believe it was a vodka sauce); wife had pasta alfredo with a house salad...we shared the appetizer baked bread with melted cheese, oil and balsamic....everything was excellent. The employees are gracious, attentive and friendly. WE LOVE THE PATIO! We had lunch out there when the temp was 101 degrees. It's shaded with beautiful trees. They have a great mist system that keeps you cool but doesn't make you feel soggy. And their water feature, with it's soothing sound, helps to make you feel comfortable. read more

Full disclosure, we did not dine here, but just stopped in for a glass of wine while waiting to meet family in Carmichael. This was one of the only businesses open on both a holiday weekend (Thanksgiving) and an earlier hour (about 4:00 pm). I will say the food we saw come out looked and smelled delicious, but we had already had lunch in midtown so more food was out of the question although I was truly wanting to try cheesy sourdough bread. The inside is cozy with a nice bar and a wine shop at the entrance. The host staff was quite welcoming even though we were just stopping by for a glass of wine, not food. We chose seats at the bar and were quickly greeted. After ordering our wines (decent selection by the glass), we perused the menu. I was surprised at the variety on the menu given the name suggests pizza and Italian specialties. I can see this being a really nice neighborhood option. I enjoyed the wine I chose quite a bit so after closing out our tab, we headed to the wine shop to browse. They had the same wine for a reasonable price so of course I took a bottle with me.
