Went to yin tang in Houston hometown w some friends. This is a mala chain where you pick your own toppings and they cook it in the broth of your choosing. I chose some beef, scallops, quail eggs, enoki mushrooms, and veggies. They charge by weight here, $15 a pound. I got the spicy broth, there's some garnishes available at the table such as green onions and chili. They don't have a sauce bar here like the Carrollton location does but I feel like got won't need a sauce for these kind of dishes. You honestly get a lot for what you're paying. It's a good way to enjoy hotpot without paying the price

The only malatang restaurant in Houston! It's great to come here with friends with different dietary needs, as you can customize and choose your toppings and soup base. I wish there were just a bit more options though, my vegetarian friend could only choose dry mix or mushroom soup as base.

A standard mala tang restaurant in the heart of ctown. I liked that the broth still had a bit of a kick to it even though I got mild spicy. I do think the broth at YGF in Katy is more flavorful though. I also wish there were some more meat and noodle options here (like wide noodles).

This is my go-to hot pot place! The broth is so creamy and flavorful, and they give you plenty of it. The meat tastes fresh, and I love how quickly the food comes out.

One of the few malatang places in Houston and it was pretty good. You have a wide variety of toppings to choose from and a couple broths as well. I got the original beef bone broth base and the flavor was very good. However, it was a little too numbing for me but if you like that numbing spice, it's definitely worth a try

Good spot for a casual meal where you or your friend is feeling hot pot but don't want the pressure of an ayce. I know malatang is super popular in other countries and I'm so sad it's not in Houston. Yin Tang is a decent option for malatang, with basic ingredients like beef, lamb, noodles, seafood, fishballs, and vegetables. Meat quality isn't the best - lamb had a bit of a smell, and beef was kinda tough. Broth was good however. I drank quite a lot of it and wasn't thirsty or fell into a food coma at the end - iykyk. Pricing wise - if you're not planning to eat a lot, it's worth it. But if you're a big eater, it will probably be the same price as ayce. My bowl was around $25 and my friend's bowl was $30+. A plus side is you can take the broth to go and have another round of hot pot at home.

Everything was tasty and ingredients seemed good quality. The bowls, utensils, and general area was clean. The medium was a good level of spice. Hope business picks up here so that they can add more flavors and more types of meat for variety! Additional ingredients to make different sauces would be good too. Only negative is--and I'm not one to care too much about service--but the waitress/host was really unprofessional, stacking our party's raw food bowls on top of each other (with the food inside) after weighing them ?? And then she rolled our cups onto our table and had us catch them without saying anything. She did give us a water refill though so I give her some props for that.

Went on a Saturday afternoon and I really enjoyed it. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and had the perfect cozy atmosphere for a chilly day. I have been to other malatang concepts like this before and I was pretty happy with the variety of fish cakes, greens, proteins, noodles, and etc. provided and felt like the price was reasonable for the amount of food you get. You have options of getting a dry malatang or a brothy one as well as a choice of spice levels mild to spicy from levels 1-4. I decided to get the level 1 spicy hot pot version. The broth was very flavorful, though the level 1 was a bit less spicy than I would've wanted, they do have chili oil at each table that you can add to the broth to adjust the spice to your liking. The whole meal was delicious and ended up being two meals for me. I would definitely come back for more!

Price is good. Serve yourself at the bar but they'll cook the soup and deliver to you. Pay by the pound. Good for large parties. Plenty of parking but I got a level 2 spice and it was too gamey for my personal taste. My friends got a spice level 3+ and their soup tasted better! Ask for extra chilis if you want a spicier base.

The food is always amazing at this spot. I love the variety of ingredients and being able to choose the spice level. Most of the time the ingredients are restocked but when we went yesterday they were missing most of the fish balls. I usually get the beef but the meat can be a little tough sometimes (might be overcooked). The veggies were cooked to perfection. Would definitely visit again when craving malatang.

    Nhu F.

My first time and like the concept. My cooked bowl came out really fast. The big surprise for me was the mochi fish cake and fish roe inside the fish balls. Wow so yummy!

Stopped by here with a few friends, the broth was very good and they have a good amount of options to put in the soup. There was only one broth option and I was hoping for more (since most other malatang places have different broth options). Other than that the service was okay, we weren't really checked up on, felt as though it was self service when it came to the service at the table. Inside there isn't too much seating. Overall, it was pretty good and we'll be back. :)

I recently opted for the Diamond AYCE set, and it was hands-down one of the best dining experiences I've had.  The Diamond tier is worth every penny. It unlocks the entire menu, giving you access to the most premium cuts and decadent sides. Here is the breakdown of why this spot is a must-visit: The Meat & Seafood * Japanese A5 Wagyu: The star of the show. The marbling is incredible, and it literally melts the moment it hits your tongue.  * Australian & American Wagyu: Even the "lower" tier meats here are exceptional. The ribeye and brisket were fresh, tender, and flavorful.  * Premium Seafood: The Diamond set includes a fresh seafood platter featuring succulent lobster (Boston and Norway), sweet shrimp, and sashimi-grade salmon that was incredibly fresh.  Signature Sides & Appetizers The Diamond set isn't just about the pot; the appetizers are high-end restaurant quality: * Wagyu Bone Marrow: Rich, creamy, and decadent--a rare find for an AYCE spot.  * Foie Gras Toast & Wagyu Nigiri: These elevated starters set the tone for a luxury meal. * Truffle Wagyu Beef Don: If you have any room left, this bowl is packed with umami. The Atmosphere & Service The service is top-notch. The staff is attentive, constantly refilling broths (the Sukiyaki and Spicy Miso are personal favorites) and clearing empty plates without you ever having to flag them down. The 90-minute limit is more than enough time to get through several rounds of premium cuts.

I also like how they sell REAL coconut juice from an actual coconut. The coconut is sweet instead of aged! Upside: most of the drinks are AYCE drinks, some are charged per drink. They announce 'last call' -- when final orders are made for each table before the restaurant closes. I believe it's a good way for customers to pace themselves before leaving near closing. Downside: I don't know if it's been fixed, but the labels at the sauce/veggie (?) table aren't completely visible, so it's hard to identify what kind of sauce is displayed. Service is also a bit delayed/flawed during busy times, so I suggest looking at the traffic. It's not horrendous or frustratingly slow/flawed, just they are busy or deliever the wrong order because of the amount of people they have to serve and keep track of.

When you walk in, there is a waiting area where you can sit while waiting to be seated. They also provide some water and snacks in the front while waiting. It also has a photo spot near the front. For the food, there is a big selection. They have lots of soup bases, and it's possible to switch soup bases if you feel tired of the one you started with. I tried a few and they were all good. The flavors start to mix after you put in your hotpot ingredients, so I would suggest drinking some of the soup beforehand. My favorite broth I tried was the duck broth. You can really taste the duck and it's the most flavorful to me, and someone in the group said you can really taste the five spice powder (I couldn't but I liked it a lot). The tonkatsu is pretty decent and tastes like what you expect. I tried the Shabu En special broth, and it tastes like dashi soup. Very standard and pretty good broth. In my opinion, the sukiyaki broth is good for short term broth and just dipping your meat temporarily. To me the sweetness overpowered the soy sauce flavor, but it's still very good. You get your meat by ordering with the server, but they come by very often and it comes out very quickly that you don't really notice a long period without any meat. At the center where you grab veggies and the sauce bar, there are sections where you can get drinks, such as tea and Vietnamese coffee, which is in addition to the drinks you can order off the menu. There is also a small dessert station but it's a must try! It has a snow shaved ice, and it has a toppings bar next to it with toppings and different sauces you can put on it. Overall, it's a really good AYCE restaurant that's definitely worth trying out.

It is definitely spicy, but nothing that I couldn't handle. The Tomato Broth was delicious as well, but added a nice sweetness to our meal. We chose the Classic All-You-Can-Eat lunch deal, and ordered a plate of the Natural Prime-Aged Lamb, the Hand Sliced Beef Short Plate, the Marinated Garlic Beef, and the Pork Belly; I can't say I'm a huge fan of how they divided the meat selections, however, since I could get premium meat elsewhere without being limited. But overall, the meat was of decent quality, and the buffet offered various options. Compared to other hot pot places, they even had a section where you could serve yourself egg rolls, white rice/fried rice, and stir-fried noodles, though I can't speak to the quality... very much buffet-quality if you catch my drift, but still lovely nonetheless. Similarly, you can fetch your own iced drinks and dessert too. I do wish Happy Lamb's sauce station had special pre-made flavors or instructions for making them, much like Shabu Zone or Haidilao; sometimes I don't trust myself to freestyle my own sauce. There are some cross-contamination concerns as well, since there'd be about 4 tongs at foot/pants level, but at least 9 food options (e.g., noodles, dumplings, veggies) to choose from. Not sure if other people share the same sentiment, but I guess they all get boiled in the end anyway. Overall, it's a decent option if you're in Downtown Houston! But I wouldn't call Happy Lamb my go-to spot.

The spicy beef bulgogi was by far my absolute favorite (I polished off two full servings myself) the spice profile was so perfect that it enhanced the beef without masking the natural flavor and the use a good quality beef as well so any toughness is due to your own over cooking which still didn't happen. The shrimp and chicken came in tied for second place for flavor bomb, I'm pretty sure they marinate this stuff for days for it to taste so full of flavor! There is also a fully stocked "Sauce Bar" with so many different kinds of sauces and additions. The inside is very large, but not loud and they have a full bar for those who wish to sit there. If you haven't tried them yet GO! You and your stomach will thank me.

I did try all of the meats and it was a lot of food but every cut was great! Nice open restaurant with plenty of seating and arranged so you feel as if you have your own space. The only reason I dropped it by a star was that there was only one person waiting on a large portion of the guests. She really tried hard and this is not a knock on her. But even though it was a slow night she struggled to keep up at times. I would have given it 4.5 if I had the choice.

I recently tried this local shabu spot and had a really enjoyable experience. The broth was flavorful but not overly salty, which worked perfectly for cooking the meats and vegetables. The beef slices were thin and fresh, cooking quickly in the broth and staying tender. The vegetable platter was generous and included a nice variety like cabbage, mushrooms, tofu, and noodles. One thing I liked was the sauce bar--there were several options like ponzu, sesame sauce, garlic, and chili so you could customize the flavor exactly how you want. Service was friendly and attentive. The staff explained how to cook the ingredients properly, which is helpful if you're new to shabu-shabu. The only small downside was that it can get a bit busy during peak dinner hours, so you might have to wait for a table. Overall, it's a great spot if you're craving fresh hot pot and a casual dining experience. I'd definitely come back again.
