Amazing service with fresh foods I would highly recommend the signature tom yum broth

Okay so we are so back. If it wasn't obvious enough, I come here too often and just haven't updated my review. This place continues to be my family's top hot pot spot, even after going to many locations in the greater Houston area simply due to the soup bases being so incredibly strong and the selection of ingredients always being top notch. The only things I have food-wise about this place are the following: 1. I think the meat selection is often inconsistent. Sometimes I will order the number 3 and 4 and it'll be really good, and other times it will be hard to eat. 2. I think that the noodle selection is missing like a handmade and hand pulled noodle. The closest thing currently is the lo mein, which I really like, but I'm still wanting more options. 3. Often, the sauce stations will have some empty bottles on the side, which is often inconvenient since I tend to add most if not all to my sauce. Great selection of meats! Very tasty! Very fresh vegetables and the seafood was fresh and taste wonderful. My true favorite of hotpot is the fresh vegetables anyway! I did try all of the meats and it was a lot of food but every cut was great! Nice open restaurant with plenty of seating and arranged so you feel as if you have your own space. The only reason I dropped it by a star was that there was only one person waiting on a large portion of the guests. She really tried hard and this is not a knock on her. Pros: my parents have been eating here and wanted to share with me. This place has good meat and a great seafood selection. They don't have tables for parties larger than 4 people, but they still found a way to sit us all together. Cons: I'm kinda grossed out by the unsanitary ice cream scooping. My go to is the tomato broth and if I'm coming for dinner and they take your order for thinly sliced meats I prefer 1-3, however if you're here for lunch it's cheaper but you can't get the premium option so then I prefer the brisket and the pork belly. Japanese food has expanded over the last decade in Houston's Bay Area, but hot pot in particular has not yet followed suit. Less than a handful of hot pot places reside within a 15-mile radius of Go Shabu and none of them serve Japanese style cuisine as far as I can tell. That reason by itself was enough for my friend and I to drive up from Galveston on a whim. I've only visited this place for lunch so I can't speak on their dinner menu. What I can speak on, however, is the high value that their lunch prices literally bring to the table. $19+tax grants you all-you-can-eat for decent cuts of pork and beef as well as a wide variety of noodles (e.g. pho, instant, egg), seafood, (e.g. fish balls, octopus, squid), and vegetables (e.g. bok choy, watercress, mushrooms). I always opt for the Go Shabu Spicy broth but their Tonkotsu broth works well for all my spice-intolerant friends. I enjoyed pretty much everything but my favorites were the mushrooms, fish balls, and ribeye. Their strawberry, red bean, and green tea ice creams all taste fabulous and can function as both a dessert and intermission; my friends and I like to cool off with one round before digging back in to the main entrees. Out of all the hot pot places I've been to, this one offers some of the best services and cleanliness of the bunch. Our server revolved frequently enough that we never ran out of water or needed to flag someone down for a broth refill. I'm not sure if that level of service can be sustained during peak lunch hours, but I very much appreciated her efforts when we dropped by at 2:15pm. Additionally, the bathrooms have remained well-kept each time I've visited. I genuinely wonder how this restaurant makes money off of people like me. I eat enough in one sitting to not require dinner afterwards. If that doesn't attest to Go Shabu's value as a lunch option, I don't know what will. read more

I've had my fair share of AYCE hot pot, and I can confidently say that this one is pretty solid (especially for its price compared to other places), though it has not become one of my favorites yet. The restaurant stays busy with a steady flow of customers, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. The selection is good, with a nice variety of seafood, vegetables, and fish cakes, but I think the sauce bar could use a little more work. I tried the Go Shabu Spicy broth, which was flavorful but could have used more heat. Next time, I would like to try the Curry broth since it is one of the more unique options I have seen at an AYCE hot pot restaurant. One area where I think they could improve is in the consistency of their meat portions and cuts. We ordered a variety of meats, and when we repeated some of the orders, the plates sometimes looked like completely different cuts. The fat content, size, shape, and portion size varied from plate to plate, even when they were supposed to be the same item. While it did not ruin the experience, it was a bit confusing and made me wonder why I enjoyed certain plates more than others when they were technically the same order. On the positive side, their ice cream was a pleasant surprise. It was a simple but refreshing way to end the meal and definitely hit the spot after so much hot pot. I can't find another hot pot place with as good of a value as this! Even after their price increases over the years, this is still my go-to AYCE hot pot place. - They now have 6 options of broths. My go-to is Shabu Spicy - Full bar with noodles, seafood, veggies. They have shrimp, prawns, scallops, etc - Lots of meat options. All great quality! 10 different types total, for lunch you get to pick among 5 - Dinner is $27/pp & weekends are dinner price. Lunch is week days only at less than $20/pp. - Parking is easy and plentiful. It's right next to an Aldi and across the street from a bank - Dessert is unlimited fresh fruit & different ice cream flavors - Service is either hit or miss depending on who you get - Ambiance is family friendly! An amazing Ayce hot pot place!! First time visiting and loved the experience in every way! Service was amazing; our waiter explained eveyerthing in detail and was very patient. We came for dinner and opted for the ayce option! They had so many different vegetables to choose from, as well as sauces and proteins! The meat tastes so fresh, as did the vegetables! Workers consistently came to our table to clear out any empty dishes. Really loved the ice cream for dessert- tried every flavor and my favorites were oreo and green tea! The restaurant itself is very intimate and relaxing. It's great for groups of all sizes, as well as dates. Well stocked buffet, ingredients are absolutely fresh, with a wide variety for any palate. Loads of noodles, veggies, and seafood. They even have a box of gloves so you can prep your food (if needed) without getting it all over your hands. I had low expectations coming to this place but I was really surprised. It's an all you can eat shabu which I was excited about. My husband and I came here for dinner with his coworkers. It was $22.99/person for dinner but for both of us we paid a total of around $66 including gratuity since we had 11 people in our group. I ordered the go shabu spicy broth and my husband ordered the sukiyaki (vegetarian) broth. Both broths were delicious! You have to order the meats (beef, pork, lamb) and bowl of rice from your server but they are pretty fast at giving it to you. The seafood, sauces, and vegetables are on the buffet table so you can easily get that once you get your broth. They also have ice cream that you can scoop it out yourself. Whenever you are feeling down on a cold day, you should definitely gather the homies and head to Go Shabu Spicy hot pot to warm up. The selection of broths, meats, seafood, veggies, sauces, etc. are far and beyond the best you could get for $19 (plus tax). The flavors of the broth were brought out perfectly through the meat and the veggies. I would recommend trying a bit of each meat on the menu. And it's all-you-can-eat, so just order your favorites after that! My personal strategy, is to have a few bowls of each meat, then take an intermission with some ice cream, and then move back to a few bowls of my favorite meats to finish the meal. The strawberry ice cream is so creamy and rich, it's to die for. I CREAMED FOR THIS ICE! I'm also a big fan of the octopus and squid as well as the shellfish, even though they're a bit hard to peel after being boiled. Friendliness is a staple at this institution. My server was attentive throughout my hour and a half meal. Consistently checking up and seeing if we needed more meats or more drinks. She was very bubbly and kind. It really added to the unique ambience of the restaurant, which was bright colored and traditional. Overall, I give Go Shabu Spicy 17/17.5 Freys (that's my new rating system for Yelp now btw). One of the BEST AYCE hot pot places I ever been too! It is an all you can eat for only $25 per person and I am LIVING on the shrimp and soft shell crab! The seafood is so fresh and the shrimps are so big! They have a wide variety of buffet options such as fresh ramen noodle, veggies, dumplings and of course their seafood selection. The meat however you have to order as part of the AYCE and you can only do 3 plates per round of order. I am disappointed in the meat because they were sliced paper thin and came out in super small portions. Although you can order again its just not great to eat small bits of meat every time. The popularity of Go Shabu revolves around a number of things: the love of Asian cuisine, all you can eat anything, the hole that is the Japanese food scene, and the fact it's in Clear Lake. No one is here for the authenticity (#1), they're here for the deal. And all things considered, it's a great setup and a fun experience. Whether it's lunch or dinner, it's a safe assumption there's going to be a wait, especially during peak service times. There is a good amount of seating but best for small groups. The bathrooms are clean, the parking is plentiful and their wait staff is slow at times due to the rush, but works very hard. If there was a go-to broth, it would easily be their tonkotsu pork broth followed closely by their curry broth. The latter has a little coconut milk mixed with beef broth and just enough kick for a nice flavor. The limit for each order is 3 plates, so strategize accordingly. I tend to order as much akaushi short rib or ribeye as I can. A few rounds of the buffet for seafood and sauces are necessary, just beware of the crowd. Sometimes the sauce bar gets a little filthy, but that's to be expected. Finish the meal with some red bean or green tea ice cream for a solid dessert. I think this place is a solid option for any occasion and certainly a good place to get a good fill of food for a decent price. We were looking for a hot pot spot for a quick lunch and found Go Shabu. Very attractive interior and good seating space. Our waiter, Kevin, was awesome. Service was quick. Food quality was fresh. The salad bar included various noodles, dumplings, greens, starches, and seafood. There were no actual salad items, only items to add into your soup base. There was a nice selection of sauces to choose from, and delicious ice cream selection for dessert. I'd go back again, but would also try other spots. Love love love this place!!!! It's definitely on par with the other hot pot places in bellaire, yet it's close and local to Webster without the traffic! We always have such a great time and leave with our bellies full and happy. Service is always on point and they are quick to bring your meats out and refill your broths for you. The broths that we like to get are the sukiyaki and go shabu spicy. We've tried their tomato broth and it was pretty good too, but a little too sweet and ketchup-y for me. I like my meats on the fattier and richer side so during lunch my favorite meat to get is their brisket (#6) and during dinner my favorite is the akaushi beef short rib (#1) and certified angus beef strip (#3). The meats cook very quickly. it's Always fresh and melts in your mouth. Their seafood bar is also pretty on point, they offer shrimp, squid, octopus, crab, mussels, clam, scallops, oyster and tilapia. My favorite to get is usually the clams, mussels and scallops. I don't think it's necessary to make a dipping sauce because their broth is usually on point and flavorful, but I like to mix their ginger sauce, sate, and add fresh garlic. Their fresh fruit bar is always full and supplied with freshly cut/picked fruit. It's a great after meal snack and pairs great with the all you can eat ice cream. Absolutely wonderful experience at my first time at Go Shabu! We ate there for lunch, I think it was about $15 a person which given the quality and quantity of food options I'm not sure how its possible! The service was friendly, waiter was extremely informative and patient with my inexperience, and we had a absolutely delicious experience. I got a small amount of everything I wanted to try and almost couldn't finish it, much less think about getting seconds. It's so easy to oversubscribe to food selections, I understand their "waste surcharge" or whatever they called it if you took much more than you eat. I somehow forgot to get a picture of the buffet but it was gorgeous! SO MANY food options, noodles, vegetables, seafood, just over abundance and it all seemed fresh, clean ,etc. no part of me was skeptical about food safety, and as I've gotten older I tend to look at that more :) As far as meats, they let you pick 3, you can see it in the bottom of my photo, there are three stacked plates. They are shaved super thin and at first don't seem like much food but if you finish it they'll refill them per request. They seem very generous, its just about not wasting massive amounts of food. This place is so cute. The interior decor was perfect. They made it to match what they were serving. Premium foods came out fast and quick. Service was super attentive. We came for lunch and it was super affordable at about $16 per person. My husband loves it here. We both got full quickly. The two soup bases I've tried were yummy. The others look good, too. At Go Shabu you get to choose what goes in your soup. The were fresh frozen and cooked quickly. This was my first time having Japanese hot pot as I have only tried Chinese hot pot. The broth wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. I had the Go Shabu spicy broth with chicken breast slices & pork belly. The pork belly was the better of the two but not so flavorful. I mixed my own custom sauce to dip my meat in so that was good. I visited here for dinner one evening and my first impression is that it has a ton of parking, compared to other shabu restaurants I've visited. It is all you can eat. The menu is pretty simple, and I tried most of the beef with several of them being tasty. I added the veggies and seafood from the buffet line as a side basically, not the star of the show. A solid place to get all your hot pot cravings satisfied! We came here for lunch on a weekday ($16.99 per person) and were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and energetic. (It was great to experience a dine-in experience where the servers seemed to enjoy their jobs!) The lower lunch cost excludes 4 premium meat options. I'm not a big meat lover anyways, so it didn't bother me one bit. You get a choice of 3 meats per order, and while they're a little stingy with the portions, our server came by often to make sure that we always had the 3-meat order placed before our current order ran out. We tried all the lunch offerings, aside from chicken, and all of them tasted great. I'm uncertain whether the buffet-style hot pot ingredients are the same for both lunch and dinner, but there was an abundant selection of seafood, fish balls, and noodles, along with other miscellaneous items. I was, however, a little bit disappointed by the limited vegetable selection. Sadly, there were no enoki mushrooms, and the quality of the vegetables also wasn't the best. I chose to get the pork bone broth, which was very flavorful and seasoned well. (The Napa cabbage was surprisingly very delicious after being cooked in the broth, even though it looked a bit sad sitting in the buffet tray.) The baby octopus and squid were also a hit, with both tasting very fresh. Stay away from the cockles and the mussels because they were sandy and a bit fishy-tasting. The sauce bar had typical ingredients, but I found it a little inconvenient that the cilantro, scallions, and minced garlic were in the veggie section of the buffet rather than the sauce section. There are two sauce bars, each located at either end of the buffet. Depending on which side you get the sauces from, it may be a little stroll across the buffet to grab the cilantro, scallions, or minced garlic. It's always fun to hot pot at a restaurant, especially when you get your own individual pot. I will point out that the table we were seated at (for 2) is a bit cramped and awkwardly small, but once we designated a spot for each of our plates & bowls, the experience turned out great! I will likely visit here again if I'm in the area because you can't beat an AYCE hot pot experience (including meat!) for $16.99. read more
