I was super excited to eat here since my family said that it's top 100 spot on the US (I believe) and that they've come here multiple times with other people. The food at Shabu En is so good! The service is very thoughtful also and they're very attentive. The decorations in the restaurant is also very nice and it's very clean too. There's plenty of parking so no need to worry about driving around to get a spot unless you're trying to be closer. When you walk in, there is a waiting area where you can sit while waiting to be seated. They also provide some water and snacks in the front while waiting. It also has a photo spot near the front. For the food, there is a big selection. They have lots of soup bases, and it's possible to switch soup bases if you feel tired of the one you started with. I tried a few and they were all good. The flavors start to mix after you put in your hotpot ingredients, so I would suggest drinking some of the soup beforehand. My favorite broth I tried was the duck broth. You can really taste the duck and it's the most flavorful to me, and someone in the group said you can really taste the five spice powder (I couldn't but I liked it a lot). The tonkatsu is pretty decent and tastes like what you expect. I tried the Shabu En special broth, and it tastes like dashi soup. Very standard and pretty good broth. In my opinion, the sukiyaki broth is good for short term broth and just dipping your meat temporarily. To me the sweetness overpowered the soy sauce flavor, but it's still very good. You get your meat by ordering with the server, but they come by very often and it comes out very quickly that you don't really notice a long period without any meat. At the center where you grab veggies and the sauce bar, there are sections where you can get drinks, such as tea and Vietnamese coffee, which is in addition to the drinks you can order off the menu. There is also a small dessert station but it's a must try! It has a snow shaved ice, and it has a toppings bar next to it with toppings and different sauces you can put on it. We came to Shabu En for a friend's birthday and were not disappointed. This place has a lot of options for meat, veggies, and sauces and is all you can eat which is nice. Each person gets their own individual pot which is nice. Lunch is $23.99 and dinner is $33.99. Parking: Shabu En is in a big strip mall in Chinatown and has a large parking lot in front of the restaurant with free parking. Parking is easy to find. Ambiance: the restaurant is very modern and clean inside. The buffet line is well kept with items refilled constantly. All of the tables are sizable so you can fill up on all you can eat. Service: the servers here are very attentive and our plates were cleaned quickly. They have a tablet system that the waiter/waitresses use to place your orders. The meat came out quickly and our pots were refilled with broth constantly. Food: most of the items besides the meat are on the buffet. The buffet had veggies, dumplings, seafood, and dessert. They have 9 flavored broths to choose from and I went with the Signature broth which had a rich umami flavor. You are also able to switch broths which is nice if you don't like the first one you choose. Our favorite meats were the ribeye, short rib, and Wagyu round. The ribeye was fatty and marbled well and the short rib and Wagyu round had a lot of flavor. The brisket was a little tough and the other meats were a little lower quality as they became very tough after cooking for a short amount of time. The veggie and seafood selection was robust and had anything you could imagine. I enjoyed the shrimp and frozen dumplings. The shrimp were large and the dumplings soaked up a lot of broth flavor. One of my favorite things to do with hot pot is to drop potatoes into the broth and let them soak for a while. After a long time, they become soft and soak up so much of the broth flavor. This may become a new fav hot pot spot on rotation for me. I'm a big fan of individual hot pots where you can pick your own broth (or switch it up). Their menu has a solid selection and you can order a wide variety of meats to the table. On weekends it's dinner pricing all day, but you also get better cuts, like Top Blade or Ribeye.. One of my friends was a hot pot pro and suggested combining two broths! So I went in with the Duck + Shabu combo and it turned out pretty good. Pro tip: ask for a ladle, just makes grabbing stuff from your pot way easier. The vibe is modern with music playing, and it definitely gets busy during lunch. The price is about the same as the rest, but the experience marked it as my new favorite. Shabu En has the standard shabu self-serve buffet line for your carbs, veggies, and sauces, with a good selection to boot. At the table, you have 9 different broths to mix and match and choose from. Then comes my favorite part: the meats. Plenty of good quality beef to choose from without paying the premium price at other upscale places. I come here too often that I purchased gift cards and entered their raffle tickets. Am I going to win? Most likely not but oh wells. I have tried every single one of their broths and my favorite of all of them: Mala Sichuan. Surprisingly not spicy so make sure you go to the sauce station an get more spice. The flavor is just perfect. If you want more of a pho broth, go with their duck broth. Spicy seafood broth is very... seafood. If you like to eat Asian seafood instant noodles, then this is your broth. That's the best I can describe it. Tom Yum is usually my to go broth but it doesn't have that lemongrass Tom Yum that I truly enjoy. Not bad, still my second choice. Tonkotsu is not bad and I would choose spicy. Sukiyaki is on the sweeter side and doesn't side with me. Shabu En Signature is also another good choice even though the first year they opened, my servers always tell me to not get it because it's plain. Lots of fresh vegetables, seafood, and noodle options here. Sauce stations now have suggestions on how to make your sauce so if you're not familiar with Japanese hot pot, do not fear. The individual pots make it easy to not cross-contaminate with others. Though, it is pretty low pot so you won't get much broths. Meats are thinly sliced but not crazy thin like rice papers. Speaking of rice papers, did you know they have spring roll wraps here by their sauce stations? I was unaware of this till this year that you can actually change your broth. Obviously, don't make it such a hassle for your servers. Changing it once or twice should be enough. Be sure to ask them to give you more broths before it burns. Decided to grab hot pot for lunch on a cold afternoon, and I'd say it mostly hit the spot. The price was fair considering the wide variety of options available. The sauce bar offered plenty of combinations to suit different preferences, and the soup itself was flavorful enough that I didn't feel the need to add extra seasoning. That said, some vegetable, meat, and add-on selections are limited to dinner service. On the plus side, they do offer a kimchi/pickled bar and a unique shaved ice bar for dessert, which sets them apart from other AYCE hot pot spots. They have a wide variety of broth bases, meats, seafoods, vegetables, side dishes, noodles, sauces and condiments, and more. Everything was super fresh and high quality, especially the meats. There are 9 different broths to choose from as is, but you can also get a mix of the broths. I went with a mix of the spicy seafood broth and sukiyaki broth, and that combination tasted amazing. There are 15 different cuts of meats to choose from. I tried almost all the different cuts of beef, and favorites are the ribeye, short ribs, and beef belly. They even have a dessert bar with different toppings, jellies, and syrups, which you can customize your own shaved ice dessert as well as delicious cheesecake in a cone. I made myself a Vietnamese Che Da styled shaved ice dessert. They also have delicious strong Vietnamese coffee which you can customize yourself to your likings. Came here early on a weekday for dinner and it wasn't too packed. I love that you can switch broths because I started with the duck broth which tasted kinda like a really light pho broth? I decided to switch to the spicy tonkotsu for the rest of the meal and enjoyed that more. The serving size is quite small, though, and was served in a bowl rather than a large plate for the meats. We were awaiting a third round but after eating paired with the bad service, we were just wanting to pay and leave. Our waters and broths were never refilled despite them obviously being very low. I understand being a server and also have worked in an AYCE environment, tables should be frequently checked on despite observing their eating pace; there are so many factors that go in to ensure a pleasant dining experience and yesterday, they fell short. I refused to come to Shabu En during its soft opening, even though it was free. I purposely waited a year later to experience the real deal. It's been blasted on social media by popular influencers. My SIL has been talking about Shabu En for a while, so it was nice to finally make it happen. It is one of her favorites and I can see why. So many choices! Pick a broth then fill your plate with salads, vegetables, mushrooms, mushrooms and more mushrooms, dumplings and noodles. Visit the spice bar. Add trays of meats, chicken and lamb. Vegan options are also available. Our host through this adventure was Katie. She was great! Guiding our family through this food journey. Water glasses were kept full. So was the hot pot broth. Some of the favorites at our table were the chicken and the chive dumplings, the quail eggs (I actually filled a small bowl for everyone to try), and the cucumber salad. Loved the spice bar. Added peanut sauce, black sesame and some sesame oil to the hot pot to enhance the umami flavor. Veggies, veggies and more veggies. So many great choices for veggies. Seaweed. Radishes. Napa cabbage. Baby bok choy. Kaboucha squash. Carrots. Lotus root. Broccoli. And a mushroom bar. The list just goes on and on and on. Be sure to load up on mushrooms. Wood Ear Mushrooms. Shiitake Mushroom Shimeji Mushrooms. Enoki Mushrooms. Enoki mushrooms are just healthy and so perfect for hot pots! Finish your meal with a bowl of shaved ice and a mini tiramisù. Toppings like boba, condensed milk and mango jellies included. Yum!! A great place to meet family or friends. Lots of parking (although I had to splash through puddles from the grocery store). We came here at 6 pm on Friday for dinner . We had a 20-30 min wait so we sat down at 630 ish. While we wait, they had sweet potatoes and water for us to snack on. There isn't a lot of chairs but they text you when they have your table ready so you can go back to your car or walk around the plaza. Cody was an amazing waiter. He was very patience with us and checked on us many times. My dad didn't like his initial soup, so he changed it out to a different one quickly. The food was amazingly put together. Each person have their own soup bowl. The "Buffett" is where all the veggies, sauces, seafood, and desserts were at. The meats comes to the table laid out in a small tray so it's easy to use your own chopsticks to grab what slices of meat you want without cross contaminating other meats. The quality of all the ingredients was amazing. We accidentally ordered too many types of meats but Cody was able to help us narrow it down. It turns out we are a huge fan of lamb and #10 from the menu. Also, I really liked how they had shaved ice as a dessert option, it was a good treat to cool down as a break from the soups. Note, they also have hot coffee by the dessert. It's easy to miss it. The table and chairs were clean and stable, they had someone come by to pick up the empty meat trays and trays we took back from the raw ingredient buffet. But I would like a bit more table space for more comfort as a personal preference. The place felt very modern and light. The noise level was appropriate . Parking is free and out front. Make sure your car is clean or uninviting looking. There is security in the parking lot but you can't be too careful. The sign will say 2 hour limit but that's all you need. Wooooooow. Our favorite hot pot place. Great meat quality, our favorite was the ribeye. They have a huge buffet filled with tons of seafood,veg, noodles, sauces, and a bing su bar! It was clean and the service was amazing. I suggest reservations. Oh and there's a big parking lot. It's the best! read more
