I love the detail they put into the dining room layout (great tables for any size party) and the hot pot bar. My waitress was very attentive and respectful in addition to being knowledgeable of the menu and offering suggestions for broth. I had the spicy seafood broth as well as the waygu meat. Some of their broths land on the EXTREMELY bland side. HOWEVER, they do offer up free soup broth changes as well as their extremely vast sauce bars which can fix up most of the broths. Time for the praise. This restaurant has an insanely immense and impressive amounts of options. There's obviously the staples, but also a lot of the sides and dessert section, which is often not offered at the other places. My only other issue with this place, though it is more minor, is that the additions that you can add to your shaved ice are almost all insanely artificial, but keep it simple and you'll enjoy your shaved ice a lot more. As for their meats, all of them stayed pretty consistent and I absolutely adore the amount of beef options that they offer since it is my favorite kind of meat to get. The duck broth I got, while not for everything, was extremely comforting and homely for me, adding a very unexpected flavor to my meal. I really enjoyed all the options that were here. Lastly, service was all really nice and welcoming. The interior kind of has that cleaning spray smell that might throw people off, but other than that the ambiance was great and very nicely modern. I have been excited to try Shabu En and all you can eat hot pot for a while and finally got a chance to stop by on a Saturday evening, without a reservation which was not very smart of me. If you plan ahead, you can make a reservation on their website, but for this particular Saturday night I had to wait about an hour. Luckily it is located in the Diho Square Plaza with other places to walk around and check out while you wait. Specifically, I passed the time by getting some groceries at Welcome Food Center then Miniso. As it is located in the busy Plaza, there is a large parking lot shared amongst the businesses, but this complex gets pretty busy so parking still may be difficult. Also, their lobby generously offers free shrimp crackers and water for those waiting. Eventually my party of 2 was seated, and we opted for the normal adult dinner price of only $34 all you can eat. They also offer a 10% discount to seniors, military, and first responders with valid ID. Therefore pricing structure is outlined on my menu picture I updated. My partner initially opted for the Shabu En signature broth (a delicate yet robust umami flavor, adding depth and authenticity with it subtle smoking is indistinct savory notes) which we thought was actually pretty bland so he switched to Tom yum broth for free. I opted for my usual Sukiyaki broth (sweet and savory soy-based broth, a popular choice for beginners) was probably rendition of this broth I've ever had. It was the perfect mix sweet and savory!!! We opted for the meat choices 7 through 10 - ribeye, certified Angus beef top blade, certified Angus beef Short rib, American wagyu chuck eye roll. Also we took advantage of the abundant sauce and sides bar - self-serve, all you can eat, located in the middle of the restaurant. Absolutely love this restaurant, not only for its affordable price but also its meat choices, side choices, sauce choices. 1 could argue that offering so many sides and desserts and free choices of tea is a bit gimmicky and supposed to fill you up cheaply, but I genuinely appreciate all of the choices especially given its price. Another great AYCE hot pot spot in Bellaire! What I like most about Shabu En is their broth system. You can switch to a different broth if you're not satisfied with your first choice, and you can even mix broths. I ordered both the Mala Sichuan broth and the Spicy Tonkotsu broth, and I was very happy with how they turned out! The buffet area is very clean, and the staff does a great job of actively restocking the ingredients. Their meats are thinly sliced and high quality. If you like fattier cuts, I recommend #2, #8, #9, and #10. I love that they have a self-serve snow ice station for dessert. It's a sweet and refreshing way to end the meal. The quality is outstanding. I came away with a full belly and a full heart. Kids loved the SNOW DESSERT - we mixed hers with passion fruit syrup and condensed milk. She loved the mini mochi and gummy toppings. Our server was attentive and caring. There was an issue with my bill but he apologized and fixed it immediately. We came to Shabu En for a friend's birthday and were not disappointed. This place has a lot of options for meat, veggies, and sauces and is all you can eat which is nice. Each person gets their own individual pot which is nice. Lunch is $23.99 and dinner is $33.99. Parking: Shabu En is in a big strip mall in Chinatown and has a large parking lot in front of the restaurant with free parking. Parking is easy to find. Ambiance: the restaurant is very modern and clean inside. The buffet line is well kept with items refilled constantly. All of the tables are sizable so you can fill up on all you can eat. Service: the servers here are very attentive and our plates were cleaned quickly. They have a tablet system that the waiter/waitresses use to place your orders. The meat came out quickly and our pots were refilled with broth constantly. Food: most of the items besides the meat are on the buffet. The buffet had veggies, dumplings, seafood, and dessert. They have 9 flavored broths to choose from and I went with the Signature broth which had a rich umami flavor. You are also able to switch broths which is nice if you don't like the first one you choose. Our favorite meats were the ribeye, short rib, and Wagyu round. The ribeye was fatty and marbled well and the short rib and Wagyu round had a lot of flavor. The brisket was a little tough and the other meats were a little lower quality as they became very tough after cooking for a short amount of time. The veggie and seafood selection was robust and had anything you could imagine. I enjoyed the shrimp and frozen dumplings. The shrimp were large and the dumplings soaked up a lot of broth flavor. One of my favorite things to do with hot pot is to drop potatoes into the broth and let them soak for a while. After a long time, they become soft and soak up so much of the broth flavor. They have a dessert bar with snow ice, coffee and cheesecake cones. Nice selection for dessert but I wish they had soft server or ice cream like some other shabu spots in town do. This may become a new fav hot pot spot on rotation for me. I'm a big fan of individual hot pots where you can pick your own broth (or switch it up). Their menu has a solid selection and you can order a wide variety of meats to the table. On weekends it's dinner pricing all day, but you also get better cuts, like Top Blade or Ribeye.. One of my friends was a hot pot pro and suggested combining two broths! So I went in with the Duck + Shabu combo and it turned out pretty good. Pro tip: ask for a ladle, just makes grabbing stuff from your pot way easier. The vibe is modern with music playing, and it definitely gets busy during lunch. The sauce bar is well stocked, and the buffet has a nice mix of veggies and seafood. (I especially liked the noodle and mushroom options.) Each table has its own temperature control which was cool. The shaved ice for dessert is a must.. Loved the texture and I went a little wild with the gummy bears and jelly toppings. (Just means extra gym time later... or honestly, don't even think about calories if you're coming here) They also have a good selection of mocktails and cocktails, and happy hour. The price is about the same as the rest, but the experience marked it as my new favorite. Shabu En has the standard shabu self-serve buffet line for your carbs, veggies, and sauces, with a good selection to boot. At the table, you have 9 different broths to mix and match and choose from. Then comes my favorite part: the meats. Plenty of good quality beef to choose from without paying the premium price at other upscale places. I come here too often that I purchased gift cards and entered their raffle tickets. Am I going to win? Most likely not but oh wells. I have tried every single one of their broths and my favorite of all of them: Mala Sichuan. Surprisingly not spicy so make sure you go to the sauce station an get more spice. The flavor is just perfect. If you want more of a pho broth, go with their duck broth. Spicy seafood broth is very... seafood. If you like to eat Asian seafood instant noodles, then this is your broth. That's the best I can describe it. Tom Yum is usually my to go broth but it doesn't have that lemongrass Tom Yum that I truly enjoy. Not bad, still my second choice. Tonkotsu is not bad and I would choose spicy. Sukiyaki is on the sweeter side and doesn't side with me. Shabu En Signature is also another good choice even though the first year they opened, my servers always tell me to not get it because it's plain. Lots of fresh vegetables, seafood, and noodle options here. Sauce stations now have suggestions on how to make your sauce so if you're not familiar with Japanese hot pot, do not fear. The individual pots make it easy to not cross-contaminate with others. Though, it is pretty low pot so you won't get much broths. Meats are thinly sliced but not crazy thin like rice papers. Speaking of rice papers, did you know they have spring roll wraps here by their sauce stations? I was unaware of this till this year that you can actually change your broth. Obviously, don't make it such a hassle for your servers. Changing it once or twice should be enough. Be sure to ask them to give you more broths before it burns. Don't forget to end your meal with a dessert... or two, or ten. No one will judge. This isn't Planet Fitness. To this day, my family and I enjoy this hot pot restaurant. Decided to grab hot pot for lunch on a cold afternoon, and I'd say it mostly hit the spot. The price was fair considering the wide variety of options available. The sauce bar offered plenty of combinations to suit different preferences, and the soup itself was flavorful enough that I didn't feel the need to add extra seasoning. That said, some vegetable, meat, and add-on selections are limited to dinner service. On the plus side, they do offer a kimchi/pickled bar and a unique shaved ice bar for dessert, which sets them apart from other AYCE hot pot spots. In addition, they also had Vietnamese Coffee, but that station was kind of mid as the coffee was very water down compared to the traditional one. I was super excited to eat here since my family said that it's top 100 spot on the US (I believe) and that they've come here multiple times with other people. The food at Shabu En is so good! The service is very thoughtful also and they're very attentive. The decorations in the restaurant is also very nice and it's very clean too. There's plenty of parking so no need to worry about driving around to get a spot unless you're trying to be closer. When you walk in, there is a waiting area where you can sit while waiting to be seated. They also provide some water and snacks in the front while waiting. It also has a photo spot near the front. For the food, there is a big selection. They have lots of soup bases, and it's possible to switch soup bases if you feel tired of the one you started with. I tried a few and they were all good. The flavors start to mix after you put in your hotpot ingredients, so I would suggest drinking some of the soup beforehand. My favorite broth I tried was the duck broth. You can really taste the duck and it's the most flavorful to me, and someone in the group said you can really taste the five spice powder (I couldn't but I liked it a lot). The tonkatsu is pretty decent and tastes like what you expect. I tried the Shabu En special broth, and it tastes like dashi soup. Very standard and pretty good broth. In my opinion, the sukiyaki broth is good for short term broth and just dipping your meat temporarily. To me the sweetness overpowered the soy sauce flavor, but it's still very good. You get your meat by ordering with the server, but they come by very often and it comes out very quickly that you don't really notice a long period without any meat. At the center where you grab veggies and the sauce bar, there are sections where you can get drinks, such as tea and Vietnamese coffee, which is in addition to the drinks you can order off the menu. There is also a small dessert station but it's a must try! It has a snow shaved ice, and it has a toppings bar next to it with toppings and different sauces you can put on it. They have a wide variety of broth bases, meats, seafoods, vegetables, side dishes, noodles, sauces and condiments, and more. Everything was super fresh and high quality, especially the meats. There are 9 different broths to choose from as is, but you can also get a mix of the broths. I went with a mix of the spicy seafood broth and sukiyaki broth, and that combination tasted amazing. There are 15 different cuts of meats to choose from. I tried almost all the different cuts of beef, and favorites are the ribeye, short ribs, and beef belly. They even have a dessert bar with different toppings, jellies, and syrups, which you can customize your own shaved ice dessert as well as delicious cheesecake in a cone. Came here early on a weekday for dinner and it wasn't too packed. I love that you can switch broths because I started with the duck broth which tasted kinda like a really light pho broth? I decided to switch to the spicy tonkotsu for the rest of the meal and enjoyed that more. My wife started on the sukiyaki and said it was a little too sweet and ended on the signature which she enjoyed more. Note the fancy meats are on the bottom of the menu so you should start there. The food here was absolutely great! I have been to many hot pots and I preferred how this place gives you a smaller amount of meats so that you can try multiple meats. The broth does come with its seasoning already so you're not building the flavor. They had a variety of veggies, seafood and meat options. What surprised me were the vegan options which were awesome to see. The service was ok, as our server was helping many tables on both sides of the place so don't expect quick refills, but they were attentive. Overall good place and would return. read more

Shabu En is hands down one of the best hot pot experiences. The quality of the meats is excellent, the broths are clean and flavorful, and everything feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Service is attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. In my opinion, most hot pot places taste the same, but Shabu En is special in its own way. If you're indecisive like me, you can switch out broths and get a sample of them! My group and I ordered several beef options. A unique feature about Shabu En is that they have vegan meat and vegan seafood; my vegetarian friend was a bit underwhelmed by it, but it is worth a try for non-meat eaters. The serving size is quite small, though, and was served in a bowl rather than a large plate for the meats. I ADORE their dessert station, which consists of shaved ice, several toppings, along with Vietnamese coffee and Cheesecake ice cream - you can't find that just anywhere. I like to indulge in the sauces when I eat hotpot, so you know I took my sweet time perfecting my dip at the sauce bar; personally, I follow the premade recipes and recommend the Miso peanut! I've tried the Soondubu broth in the past, and recently, I tried the Duck and Tom Yum. - Duck (3/5): Two of my friends immediately requested to switch their broths after trying it; it smelled and tasted just like Pho. I like it when hotpot soup can add flavor to the proteins and vegetables when I dip them in, but the broth was merely there to cook the food, and didn't enhance the taste at all. Dunking my meats and veggies in my sauce was the saving grace, or else my meal would've been plain... Not terrible, but there are better options. - Tom Yum (5/5): By far my favorite. A bit of a sweet aftertaste, but there was a spicy and sour kick; unlike the Duck broth, the Tom Yum broth had no problem coating the proteins and veggies in flavor, and I could honestly get away without using sauce to enhance the taste. I wouldn't come often because I view hotpot as more of a special treat (and it's expensive), but coming to Shabu En is such a luxurious experience, and I would recommend that others visit! read more

One of my favorite hotpot places! I get the mala Sichuan mixed with the tonkotsu, which adds the perfect spice level that I want without being too numbing. They have a good variety of beef options but only one lamb option. Their meat slices are thin and fresh. My favorite slices are the beef belly and the wagyu. We came at a busy Friday lunch time so we had to wait a little bit for the first round of meats and soup but afterwards, service was super quick. I like that everyone gets their own pot and how bright the inside is, it feels very clean and more "upscale". read more

Really enjoyed the ambience here- everything looked super clean including all of the shellfish options, the salads and kimchi were a hit and they even offer snow ice and Vietnamese coffee. The sauce bar was also great. They also let you switch out your broths and the lunch was affordable for AYCE. I thought the lunch beef choices didn't blow me away but still very good. Service was friendly and prompt. We did have a pretty small table between the two of us and felt it was slower to tidy it up considering how tight it was but otherwise, fun space! read more
