I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Happy Lamb Hot Pot. Went on a Monday around 6:30pm and the place wasn't busy at all. Staff weren't too attentive, but you don't really need them to be since you're the one managing everything, so that's good! The place is quite spacious and very clean. There is a big tv wall that was showing football as well! We ordered the split pot with the tomato broth and spicy broth as well as the chicken and marinated beef. Both broths and meats were delicious. There's a wide selection of items in the buffet line from veg to seafood and dumplings etc. there's even pre prepared food like fried rice, noodles, chicken wings, and desserts. Overall, this was a great experience and we got out for two at about $65 which is pretty fair for the amount of food I was able to put down in the time we were there. We love Happy Lamb Hot Pot! This is our go-to location that never misses. We're thrilled about them adding the Tom Yum broth base- it is absolutely delicious. We've previously enjoyed doing the best of both worlds pairing, but since they've added Tom Yum, we now do the pot split 3 ways. The self-serve buffet always has fresh veggies and seafood choices. Our favorites include the spinach, bok choy, shrimp, clams, sweet potato, corn, and pumpkin. I think they've done away with the lobster balls which used to be my favorite, but I've since switched to dumplings which are tasty. I love the items from the hot bar- the orange chicken is yummy. My friend and I agreed that a celebratory hot pot was the perfect treat after our climbing sesh, and I've been meaning to try Happy Lamb for a while! Service was fast, and what seemed like a seemingly small building was actually bustling. We ordered the Best of Both Worlds option and requested the Spicy Bone Marrow along with the Tomato Broth; they complement each other quite well, with the Spicy Bone Marrow being our personal favorite. It is definitely spicy, but nothing that I couldn't handle. The Tomato Broth was delicious as well, but added a nice sweetness to our meal. We chose the Classic All-You-Can-Eat lunch deal, and ordered a plate of the Natural Prime-Aged Lamb, the Hand Sliced Beef Short Plate, the Marinated Garlic Beef, and the Pork Belly; I can't say I'm a huge fan of how they divided the meat selections, however, since I could get premium meat elsewhere without being limited. But overall, the meat was of decent quality, and the buffet offered various options. Compared to other hot pot places, they even had a section where you could serve yourself egg rolls, white rice/fried rice, and stir-fried noodles, though I can't speak to the quality... very much buffet-quality if you catch my drift, but still lovely nonetheless. Similarly, you can fetch your own iced drinks and dessert too. I do wish Happy Lamb's sauce station had special pre-made flavors or instructions for making them, much like Shabu Zone or Haidilao; sometimes I don't trust myself to freestyle my own sauce. There are some cross-contamination concerns as well, since there'd be about 4 tongs at foot/pants level, but at least 9 food options (e.g., noodles, dumplings, veggies) to choose from. Not sure if other people share the same sentiment, but I guess they all get boiled in the end anyway. Overall, it's a decent option if you're in Downtown Houston! It's the day after Thanksgiving, and we are tired of leftovers, so me and my daughter went on a quest to find a restaurant with a soup that will make us feel like home, and granted we are not Asian we are Mexicans, but these hot pot place truly hit the spot! Very few AYCE hot pot establishments in Houston can offer the value that Happy Lamb does. At $22 a person during lunch (for this specific branch, arrive before 2pm), it doesn't get much better than this. The spicy marrow broth is my personal favorite, but not for the faint of heart. Spice-intolerant people beware. The tomato broth typically works for most people instead. You can also opt for 2 different broths split apart on the same community pot. I've never tried the tender chicken fillet, but the rest of the non-premium cuts taste satisfactory. Let's be real though -- when it comes to AYCE hot pot, is anyone looking out for top of the line quality? I like the marbled lamb the best. Marinated garlic beef also makes a decent choice for those that prefer something more lean. Lastly, the buffet area contains all the typical ingredients (enoki, bok choy, egg noodles, tofu, quail eggs etc). Similar to their Bellaire location, I have questionable sanitary concerns about the placement of community tongs in the frozen section. All of the tongs hang at pants level, directly in front of customers. Can't they find a place to hang them literally anywhere else? I'm sure any potential organisms are killed off when the ingredients get boiled in the hot pot, but still... it's so off putting. This is my only major complaint about this place. When I think of hot pot with great value, Happy Lamb is the first place that comes to mind. My friends and family have always received stand-up service whenever we visit. I feel like this is a hotpot place that you really can't go wrong with. I love that it's a non-Bellaire option too. My group and I walked in on a weekday evening and were seated immediately. They're an AYCE hotpot restaurant priced at a similar point compared to other ayce hotpot places in Houston. My friends and I chose to have their premium menu that was ~ $30. Came here on a Saturday it was 60 bucks for two people AYCE style. There is a salad bar. You can also get noodles, sauces, and desserts in that area. Drinks our self serve at the fountain drink machine. The menu is a little small as far as the types of meats you can order. You can get up to 3 broths. If you get 2 broths, there is no additional fee but I think there is a fee if you get 3. The spicy broth wasn't very spicy to me but had really good flavor. The only thing I would also comment is that if it's your first time, I wish they would do an explanation. The place was very busy, it's good. I went here today for the 20th anniversary special and we only paid $60 for 3 people! It was super packed and busy as expected, but all the servers and staff were so kind even though they were super busy and occupied. Everything included. Honestly, hotpot doesn't get much better than this. They had everything included, unlimited meats, lots of vegetables and seafood at the buffet. If you haven't had hot pot, then this place is worth a try to have a taste of boiling your own meat Chinese style. We tried the lower cost ayce hot pot, was very good. For about $30 per person after tax, you can't go wrong with it. Decent choices for basic hot pot needs with their lower cost version. Free soft drinks, but wine and beer cost extra. Service is nice for a buffet, but you might need to get their attention if for example the Diet Coke is out. They also have fried chicken wings, sweet and sour chicken and fried rice/noodles for your "traditional" taste. Serving areas are fairly clean as well. The plates for the higher cost one looked better, aka the angus beef, so we might try that next time. Make sure to separate your utensils for raw things and cook your meat thoroughly. read more

Service has gotten terrible. It takes so long now to get any meat. The lamb (which used to be the best cut) is now very lean and not as flavorful. The ribeye has almost no marbling. The wagyu chuck is very good. One thing I didn't like was how I kept ordering all wagyu chuck, but then they'd bring me half chuck and half super lean ribeye. They're doing this on purpose so conserve their wagyu chuck. I had to say something as this restaurant keeps upping their prices and enshittifying their product and service. To me, the premium option was definitely worth the try just to get some of the nicer meats and that lamb shank. Service was the only mixed bag for me, while everyone was nice, ordering more of the meat options was not intuitive. I wasn't sure whether waiters came by to check on you or if you had to call them over. Went to happy lamb hotpot in Houston at their westheimer location. I went to their location on westheimer, which looked a little nicer than their bellaire location. I was seated immediately and chose their classic dinner all you can eat meal. Dinner is only $5 more than lunch and the meats available are the same, so I definitely recommend coming for lunch if you can. You can also upgrade to their premium meal for better quality meals, or get their Kobe beef or lamb shank as a la carte. I got the best of both worlds broth, meaning you can choose any 2 broths. I got the spicy marrow broth and the golden cabbage marrow broth. There's a self serve drink station where you can get various sodas and teas. They also have a self serve sauce bar station to make your own dipping sauce. There's a hot bar station and I tried a little of everything. They had fried rice, chicken pasta, sweet and sour chicken, eggrolls, sesame balls, and chicken wings. None of it was memorable except for the chicken wings. The wings were actually SOO GOOD surprisingly for an all you can eat place. The skin was so crispy and there is a ton of meat which was tender and juicy. They had a simple flavor but were not bland at all. The wings would empty out quickly as many ppl grabbed them, but they were periodically bringing out fresh batches. For hotpot, they have a veggie, seafood, and assorted hotpot item station where you can choose what you want to add to your broth. My favorites were the fish roe filled fish balls, meat filled fish balls, quail eggs, enoki mushrooms, and noodles. For meat, I tried the lamb, beef short plate, garlic marinated beef, and pork belly. My favorite meats were the pork belly and beef short plate. They also have a dessert station but I didn't touch it, I indulged in their freezer full of icecream, a much needed sweet treat after the meal. The pricing is great, selection is essentially an AYCE where you can control your own portions (for veggies, seafood, and sides), and you can do half half on the broth as a part of your AYCE piece. We went to another AYCE hot pot place that had us pay extra for broth and then an even higher extra price to do half half so this was a much better option. Decent meat selection - beef, lamb, pork, etc with other premium selections for an added cost. With the AYCE, they also have buffet style sides such as rice and chicken. They also had plum juice, lemon juice, soda, and ICE CREAM!! Their veggie and seafood selection was pretty expansive (based on my experience) and their sauce bar was well kept compared to other places I've been to. The perfect spot to warm up during the winter freeze! My partner and I came here (cautiously in the freezing temperatures during the freeze) to find a nearby hot pot place. This is close enough for us in the heights (located just west of the galleria) that it didn't feel like too long of a drive. It's buffet style where you pay a very reasonable fee for endless meat and buffet options. There's a deluxe meat package and a regular meat package, we elected for regular as we didn't feel boujee enough for wagu beef. They bring 3 meats at a time, and that was PLENTY for us. You also pick your broth, we opted for the classic half savory half spicey. We then had free range to get noodles, veggies, dumplings and all the addins. The noodles all tasted delicious, the glass noodles started to break down after a bit but the rest were great. The dumplings were really delicious especially the lamb ones. And the meat was all fantastic, the garlic beef and the round eye cuts all cooked and tasted so delicious in the spicy broth. The spiciness level was just right. My favorite was the custom sauce station - my mix of garlic, sesame, soy sauce, and tahini was the perfect addition to spicy broth cooked meat.
