    The remodeled practice room
    Nikki P.

This studio used to be 'Bikram Yoga Greater Portland', but it now has new owners. The studio has been remodeled and is really unique and lovely. They installed radiant heat panels, which no other Bikram studio in Portland has. They keep the room hot, without the forced air blowing around. It's very peaceful and quiet. There is cedar lining the entire back wall, which smells like a cabin at Breitenbush! The humidity is great, as well. The shower has been remodeled, as have both bathrooms. As far as I can tell, the new owners, Leah and Julie, have hand picked some great instructors to teach at their studio. These folks know their Bikram! If you've practiced Bikram before, then you know the class is always the same: 90 minutes, 2 breathing exercises, and 26 postures, 25 of which are done twice. This studio is classic Bikram and very welcoming to beginners. Come to class prepared to sweat! Bring a mat, a large towel to put over your mat, and whatever towels/hand towels you might want in addition to that. Don't forget to bring a bottle of water. Wear tight-fitting and stretchy yoga shorts and, if you're a woman, a sports bra or sports tank. Beginners often make the mistake of wearing too much to class. From what I've heard, the dressing rooms are going to be remodeled further, with showers in both the men's and women's changing areas. I'm not sure when that's going to happen, but that makes me happy! Overall, I highly recommend this remodeled studio. It's very clean, has brand-new, anti-microbial carpet in the practice room and a side mirror now, which is great for checking your form. The teachers are top-notch, the conditions are great, everyone is friendly, and, best of all (for me), it's conveniently located. There are a few parking spaces right out in front of the doors, or there is street parking.

Is parking difficult to find during rush hour? Thank you

Hi Ty! Thanks for your inquiry. Parking tends to be easier currently for our 6:30PM, compared to the 4:30PM class. There is construction across the street from us right now that limits a number of street parking spots directly across our entryway… Read more

I was able to get in through the coffee shop O'vive as they share the space. There was a wonderful and very kind person that worked there named Grey and even though I dropped in on what I believe was his break, he rebooked me for their next class and explained the classes to me. He hooked me up with a mat which is free ( I think for your first time) and a locker key (in exchange for my I.D.) and let me know about the various lockers. Gendered and all inclusive! I was so stressed with being late and his vibe and the vibe of the studio calmed me down. The place was beautiful, squeeky clean and had pretty small light hanging like curtains on the windows that face Grand. There was some relaxing music playing from the cafe and it smelled amazing. It may have been the tea, the food or whatever else they were making there but it had a nice fragrance. I was able to chill on this beautiful blue sofa snd drink tea and write this review while I was waiting for the next class. The lockers and showere were also nice!! Photos included. I did the Power Flow Class with Eila and it was amazing! It was my first time and it was relaxing yet challenging. I didn't know it was more of an advanced class but I was ablebto keep it (mostly) I will definitely be coming back to do more of their class!

I started going here initially for the pre-natal yoga classes and loved it so much that I encouraged my husband to take classes here as well. Now we're regulars. I recommend: - Gentle Yoga classes with Birdie, Alison, Sascha, or Kat for beginners or to offset more intense classes - Vinyasa Flow classes with Birdie - fun, creative flows that feel well choreographed with great music. It's a more advanced class - Core Strengthening classes with Kat - fun for increasing your strength and fitness. I enjoy other forms of movement and dance, but they aren't what I'm expecting when I schedule a yoga class, and it can be disappointing when the class description doesn't match the actual format. Wednesday night Vinyasa with Birdie is excellent, and I'm clearly not the only one who thinks so--her classes are often waitlisted. Would it be possible to offer more classes in that style, or more opportunities to practice with Birdie?

Whether it is just an energizing afternoon of Vinyasa Power Flow, or an evening of stretching and meditation with Recovery Yoga, or even a mind-opening experience in Cannabis Yoga... every class is taught with such intent, with caring for the individual and their bodies' needs and limitations, and so much love. Let me tell you a story... Years ago, I was struggling with my transition and many experiences had me sinking under the weight of feeling hated, disdained, or looked down upon by others. This had fed into the feelings of self-hatred that plague so many of us trans folk and I was so suicidal that I had a plan and a place all picked out. One night, I was so distressed, so panicked by the weight of pain that I was walking toward that place, ready at least to test my plan... or more..., when I noticed Yoga on Yamhill on my right. So many friends had suggested the place and how wonderful it was. I felt a sudden and strong urge to check it out. It was coming up on 9pm and... there was a Restorative Yin/Nidra class just about to begin. So, I turned in and ended up doing my very first yoga class ever. When it was all done, I felt as if the weight of the world was lifted off me, I could breathe again... I felt wonderful! Since then, I've attended so many classes here, mainly Yin and other stretching and gravity-focussed classes. I tried Hatha, and that was a great workout for me. I tried Vinyasa and OH MY GAWD that completely kicked my butt. I have gotten to know all the yogis here. Most of them are women and classes are mainly made up of women, making this a very welcoming and kind space, a wonderful place for those of us who do not "conform." There are guys teaching, mainly David Miller right now, who does Yin, Restorative, Cannabis Yoga, and events that blend Reiki, Massage, other healing arts, and yoga. This is a place to heal and grow, not just an exercise studio by another name. Please, if you need more than just a workout, come on in. The studio lost a lot of classes during CoViD, but it's recovering, new teachers are arriving and the schedule is filling out again. Take a look, at yogaonyamhill.com.
