Advertised price: "from $45.00" Actual price for house call and 5 minutes work: $394.00 It was late in the evening and I'd been moving between apartments all day. I lost the old apt key along the way and called the first number I found in a google search on my phone. They advertised $45 for "House lockout service". I have a 320 sq.ft. studio in Mountain View and needed the deadbolt picked or drilled out. Service was great... showed up in 20 minutes. Locksmith advised me of $265 fee to pick the lock, additional $40 if the lock needs to be drilled. Since I was tired and didn't feel like calling another locksmith I gave the go ahead. Again excellent service and the deadbolt was picked in about 2 minutes. Total charge? $394.00. "You said $265"! Yeah but the service and trip charge was $129. This taught me to valuable lesson to absolutely clarify expectations on ALL charges before requesting a service call. I wish now that I'd have sent him away empty handed and called other locksmiths offering them $200 cash total (all expenses/charges/fees) to let me into my studio. Update: The owner is claiming that this business did not service my apartment and someone else must have done the work and charged this amount. And he suggested we drill the lock (11-10-2017 11:25 PM) Job complete, and showed me $414 bill, I complained a bit about the price, but since I am at a bad position to bargain (service already provided, and it's late night), the technician won't listen a word from me. I signed the receipt and let the technician go. (11-13-2017 11:30 AM) Called them to confirm the price, and they say the technician said he installed a new lock to my door, but I told them that the technician left without installing a new lock on my door. They said they will check with the technician (11-13-2017 12:15 PM) They said they have transferred my request to their technician manager and will call me between 1 pm and 4 pm. (11-13-2017 4:00 PM) Still did not get a call from them, and I called them back. This time he directly gave the phone to the technician manager and she let me describe AGAIN my situation. So I told her that the technician only drilled my lock without installing a new lock, and the charge is $414, do you think it's ok? She replied she will recalculate and mentions what late night fee 200$, drill labor fee $165, blabla, and then she said, "But since you are already sad, we can remove the service call fee 29$, and gave you a 10% off, and the total will be (hitting the calculator) $315" I agreed with them because I have no mood to argue any more, and just let them refund me the overcharged part $99. It's a long post, but following things are the main complain that I have: 1) The technician took advantage of my situation, gave a $414 dollar bill and with no explanation to me what the charge is covered. 2) They did not follow their promises: they said the technician manager will call me 1:00 - 4:00 pm, but it did not happen. And when I called them back, they both seem to be free and ready to take my call. So, they are just not willing to help. 3) $315 for just drilling an apartment door key??? Called this company 2 weeks ago. And to be honest i forgot or just dident have the time to write review. Today i lost my house keys and i called yms locksmith again to provide me lockout service. And same like last time they came in 17 minute and open my door with no damage. And they also provide me 15%off for returning customer. What a great company. YMS Locksmith advertises low prices and then takes advantage of their customers. Online the price quoted to open a home (apartment door) starts at $45. I called and they told me it would be $15 for the locksmith to come out and he would when then "quote me based on the lock.service". I live in an old building and it literally took the technician less than 3 minutes to open my door by picking it. He charged me $235!. $15 to come out at $220 for the work. While I am not a professional locksmith, that seems absurd and I do not recommend anyone use this company. Call another company, get an upfront, honest quote, and do not get taken advantage of like I did. The one star is for the technician opening my door easily and without damage. The missing other four stars are: minus 1 star for the ridiculous price, minus the 2nd star for a lack of transparency, and minus the third star & fourth star for taking advantage of people in need. read more

They got the door open which was good, but the tech seemed to have to make three or four trips to and from his car. Price was definitely high at $129 for 15 minutes or less of actual work. $29 fee to come out and $100 for the work. I asked both the person who took my initial call for a quote and the tech and neither of them would give me one. Hard to argue they're over priced when they won't give me a quote until the door was opened. Minus one star for being too expensive and minus another for not providing a quote prior to the job being done. I'm happy I was able to get back into the house, but not happy about the price and the service was less than professional. Also, my payment information was texted to someone instead of my payment being taken by the tech. Felt very suspect and i now have to keep an eye on my bank statement to make sure my payment info doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Minus one more star for typing my whole name, card number and ccv into a text message along with my billing zip code in order to charge me. read more

We were locked out of our apartment. We called YMS and texted them pictures of the lock and they gave us a quote on the spot. They said they could come in 22 minutes and 22 minutes they were here.
