This review is for Dr. Hvistendahl and also Plastic Surgery Specialists as a whole. (I copied this review over from what I wrote for Plastic Surgery Specialists, since it especially applies to Dr. Hvistendahl!) Honestly I would give 10 stars if I could!! Both for Dr. Hvistendahl himself, as well as for the whole experience and group of people I worked with. A friend recommended Dr. Hvistendahl for my breast augmentation, since she had just gone to him and thought he was amazing. So I looked him up, did a lot of research, read reviews, etc. and decided to schedule a consultation. And imagine my pleasant surprise when I found PSS was doing a special study (related to placement of a numbing shot, or something along those lines), and if you participated you got $2000 off. From the very beginning I was impressed. First I talked to Renee to schedule and talk about pricing, etc. Great communication, extremely helpful, very friendly. Holly, who I met when I got there, was amazing as well. Very nice, friendly, and made me feel very comfortable and well-informed through the entire process. She was there with me at my consultation, post-op, and actual surgery day. Helped me feel more comfortable having someone I recognized there with me...especially on surgery morning! Everyone else was great too...my surgery nurse, the front desk ladies, etc. As to the actual office. It has a fancy spa type feel. Very comfortable chairs and couches, nice décor, and always makes me feel calm somehow. Also very clean. I also like how they don't seem to overbook appointments. Only one time have I had someone else waiting there in the waiting room at the same time as me. And it's not for lack of clients...I know that they are a very busy practice. It makes me feel like I'm at some exclusive place, and not just a faceless person in a crowd of patients, if that makes sense. They know how to make everyone feel important. Now to Dr. Hvistendahl. I HIGHLY recommend him! So easy to talk to, very cheerful, professional, funny, and comfortable to be around. (About 30 seconds after he walked in the room I knew for sure I wanted him to do my surgery.) Also very honest. I like how he gave his opinion, but also listened very closely to what I wanted. I took in a picture of what I wanted, thinking that it would be hard to match exactly....but pleasant surprise....he really did match the picture almost exactly!!! Very VERY skilled doctor. My scars are also tiny and very well hidden. :) One thing that especially impressed me was how after the surgery they don't just "drop" you since you're paid and done. Amazing and thorough post-op attention. I had accidently given a wrong phone number, so didn't get calls after the surgery. I thought maybe no one would think anything of it because they have surgeries every week. But my first post-op appointment the first thing the Dr. asked was what number they had, because it was definitely wrong! I guess him and Holly had called several times and were worried since they couldn't get ahold of me. I was very impressed how they really cared. Like I said earlier, not just a faceless person in a crowd of patients. For any procedures, without a doubt I would go here again. I highly recommend Dr. Hvistendahl and Plastic Surgery Specialists! Add-on: Went to Dr. Hvistendahl for botox, and full stars for that as well!!!! He took his time explaining the whole process to me, and what he was doing. I got even better results than the last place I went for botox, and next time I get botox I will be coming back here! Arched my eyebrows perfectly, and gave me a follow-up appointment to check the overall results, where he added a tiny bit more for free. They charge per CC, which means you're not getting watered down stuff, or skimped on the amount. Great experience, and like I said in my other review, I highly recommend coming here! read more

I went to Dr. Hvistendahl for a consultation because I had the worst case of hollow dark circles under my eyes. I really didn't know what I could do about it, I just left it up to him to see what my options were . Dr. Hvistendahl is really great at explaining procedures, he's very professional and most of all he is not pushy. After he explaining a few options to me, I ended up doing what's called a fat transfer under my eyes and I love it! The darkness and hollow look is gone from my eyes. It looks totally natural and best of all it is permanent because it is not a filler that wears off like Restylane or Juviderm. If you are looking for a great plastic surgeon, without an attitude who knows what he's doing and is skilled, go to Dr. Hvistendahl. You will not be disappointed. After I had a parotid tumor removed from my face it left me with some very problematic residule facial problems. I saw Dr. Hvistendahl for treatment of those issues and he and his entire staff made me feel comfortable and welcomed. Most importantly, Dr. Hvistendahl resolved the problems in a professional, experienced manner. I have been to the office several times for follow up visits and have always noted their staff to be helpful and curtious not only to me but to all the patients who came in while I was seated in the waiting room. Dr. Hvistendahl and his ENTIRE STAFF are EXCELLENT- I can't say enough on how professional yet VERY comfortable I felt thru the WHOLE process- From the phone consultation with Dede and Renee, till the moment I awoke in recovery and the Nurse (I forgot her name) who was taking care of me- I never had such a PLEASANT experience considering how Scared and Nervous I was before going under the knife. This review is for my consultation appointment I had today. The women at the front desk are very friendly and kind. I really appreciate that Dr. Hvistendahl offers free consultations. Unfortunately, I did not have a very good experience overall. I waited around for approximately 25-30 minutes in the waiting room. Then waited another 10 minutes in the patient room. Dr Hvistendahl talked to me for probably only 5-7 minutes. I felt rushed for time. I did not feel comfortable with the lack of information he gave me. He also ended up talking to me about a procedure different from what I was told I was seeing him for on the phone. I did not appreciate his hands on my knee either. Over all, the Dr. was kind and warm, but very rushed. I waited around more after he left the room and was then seen by Lori. She was very cold and aggressive towards me. I felt I was being talked down to when I asked questions. I felt like I was not being taken seriously by her due to my age. For the record, I do have the money saved up for this procedure, but it was clear that Lori did not want my business. I feel uncomfortable with my interactions with both Dr. Hvistendahl and Lori. I don't know how they expect you to spend $10,000 after only talking to them for 15-20 minutes (Dr. Hvistendahl and Lori combined). I left my appointment feeling very discouraged and belittled. I went to Dr. Hvistendahl for injections, and ended up with lumps on both sides of my mouth which created the appeareance of deep wrinkles. When i returned to show him, he was sarcastic, flippant, and denied all responsibility.. I left feeling bad, and looking bad. I had to then seek out another plastic surgeon to repair the damage done, who confirmed it was the result of the placement of the injections. i then wrote to Dr. Hvistendahl expressing my extreme dissatisfaction, and requesting the funds be reimbursed which i had to duplicate by paying another plastic surgeon for what he had done. He again denied responsibility, and even lied about what had occurred. Go elsewhere. Should anything go wrong, he will not take responsibility, as he is motivated by a huge ego, and extreme arrogance. You will be left with no recourse. read more

After having 3 kids it was my turn to fix my body that way I wanted. I was given Dr. H's name from a friend who recently had breast augmentation done by him. My consultation went great, felt that he was speaking to me answering ALL my questions and it didn't feel like a sales pitch ever. I did however go to other consultations with other surgeons but never got the same feeling. I went back and forth weighing pros and cons with which surgeon but I was at ease whenever I thought about Dr. H. I booked my appointment and continued with the process...this was really happening I've wanted this for so long.The day finally arrived in April of this year and couldn't be more happier with the entire experience and results. The reader who gave Dr. Hvistendahl a one star was way off base! I had a really bad neck job from another plastic surgeon in Danville, and she would do nothing to correct it. Dr Hvistendahl is a super star!! He is honest, compassionate,professional and caring. I was immediately comfortable with him and he did an amazing job for me. I cannot think of enough adjectives to say how wonderful he is. I truly believe he is an artist and he steers you to what would be right for you, not what is the most expensive. I am not surprised to see that other reveiwers here rated Dr. Hvistendahl with 5 stars! His bedside manner and sincere care and comforting are excellent. To top it off, his surgery skill is awesome, his operating room is calming as one wall of glass allows you to view an green atrium, and his fee was very competitive. A long while ago, I read in much detail and viewed photos of women who had crescent or circular lifts, rather than a full breast lift with more incisions. I consulted many doctors and they told me to have a full lift, which I did not want. However, Dr. H was experienced in such an advanced procedure and performed a fine crescent lift and large augmentation on me. Recently, Dr. Hvistendahl greatly helped me out and I want the world to know how compassionate and giving he is and how much I appreciate what he and his entire staff did for me!, I am a domestic violence victim, and when I called them distraught because my nose had been broken, their entire staff donated their time, love and money by performing nose surgery on my severely crushed nose. 5 stars is not enough for Dr. Hvistendahl. His surgical expertise is exemplary, along with his 'bed side' manner. His personality & humor puts you at ease when undergoing any type of procedure that promotes anxiety. His team is top notch, from Lisa RN who helps to assist in surgery, Holly at the front desk, and hopefully the anesthesiologist I had, Michell James stays on board. I so appreciated her incorporating alternative modalities to western medicine to keep me from getting sick from anesthesia; using a band on my wrist at a particular acupressure point...and yes, it worked! For any procedures I might under take in the future, I would travel almost any distance to stay with with this team. Pass the word to anyone you know seeking out cosmetic procedures. read more

I have been consistently impressed with Dr. Hvistendahl from the major surgical repair he performed on my shattered sinus cavity in 2002 to the expertly done Botox he has administered today. Dr H. did not perform my procedure well and it had to be repeated causing shock, trauma, emotional and severe health problems. It has taken me 2 years to restore my health after being in the hands of Dr. H. From a human to another, do not use these doctors...and research your procedure thoroughly as all of them have risks of complications which can last for years. read more

Dr. Hvistendahl is a brilliant physician. Twenty years ago I had a nerve graft of my facial nerve and it left me with a disfiguring and inappropriate contraction of some of the muscles of my face and neck. I had consulted other reputable physicians in the past and none could think of a way to help. Dr. Hvistendahl came up with a solution that was a combination of a small surgery and strategic placement of botox, which left me with more symetry in my face than I have had in years. As a result I feel so much more comfortable and less self-concious. Dr. Hvistendahl is able to use his gifts of observation, go beyond reliance on formulaic knowledge, and achieve remarkable results. I had contemplated having a breast augmentation for years and began doing some research on-line of Bay Area surgeons. I found the website for Plastic Surgery Specialists and watched all of their videos. I was very impressed with Dr. Hvistendahl and could just tell he was the MD I wanted to consult to make this major decision once and for all. As soon as he walked in the door I could tell I was in the right place. He made me feel very comfortable with my long list of questions, most of which he answered before I even could get to with his thorough explanation of the procedure...He was very patient and did not make me feels pressured at all. The day of the surgery I was both nervous and excited. He spent as much time as I felt I needed to deal with my last minute concerns prior to the procedure, never making me feel rushed. He really seemed to understand the outcome I was looking for and I knew I could trust him. He was there when I came out of anesthesia, telling me how everything went, and most importantly, showing me my new "ladies!" He telephoned me the night of the surgery to make sure I was doing fine and to answer any questions I might have. I am now three weeks post-op and thrilled with my results. I have had a couple follow up appointments, always being treated very well by the office staff and of course, Dr. Hvistendahl. I cannot speak for the dr and his work but what I can attest to is the terrible office staff he has. I went in a few months ago to get an estimate on a breast augmentation and lift. I wasn't ready at the time and called today to follow up. To my surprise, they wanted to charge me $2k more! Referring to some "deal/trial" I missed out on back when they initially quoted me. I asked what the soonest available surgery date was and was told in a month. When I called to re-book my consult they told me that date was no longer available. When I asked about securing a confirmation on dates she said she would give me another date... but when I question the uncertainty of the date (since it had just gotten pushed back within an hour), she go snippy and said that it would be confirmed for me knowing full well that this was not possible. I expressed my displeasure in her deceit and in her trying to con me in and will obviously not be going to him. If his staff is this negligent, I can only imagine what procedures there look like. read more
