This has to be one of the most simple business concepts ever: 1. Open in a yuppie neighborhood with a ton a kids 2. Choose a location highly accessible to foot traffic 3. Make it kid-friendly 4. Make it healthy 5. Make it easy (self-serve) and make it DELICIOUS 6. Stand back and let the customers pour in!. I don't even feel I need to comment on the product, other reviewers have already done a great job of that, and I agree with all of them. What really impressed me was the amount of foot traffic in the village on a Sunday evening. Hollander was full both inside and out, as was Yo Mama! Businesses like these two and others have really helped to transform Tosa village into a "first choice" when we are thinking of going someplace close to home. Nine years ago when we moved to the village, it was Restorante, Noodles, and the Chancery. The options are so much better and varied now. Our local little frozen yogurt shop right in the heart of Tosa. The decor is cute and the place is always clean. They have plenty of seating and added some tables outside in the warmer weather. The frozen yogurt and toppings are all self serve and priced by the ounce. They allow samples from the machines before you start to concoct your own individual sundae masterpiece. The frozen yogurt is delicious and the flavor variety is usually wide enough that I can find something to spark my interest. The best part about coming here is toppings bar. Candy pieces, cereal flakes, chocolate peanut butter cups, sprinkles, strawberries...you name it they have it. Just don't forget to top it off with a cherry. My biggest complaint is that it can get expensive. Our sundaes tend to run $5-$6 a piece. It's not so bad right now, as we can share, but as my child becomes older, this is going to turn into a $20 treat stop real soon. Ahhh, the price we pay for customizing the perfect sundae. read more

Yummmmm. I never realized I could be such a fan of frozen yogurt. I grew up in the 80's, so thoughts of the weird-ass TCBY (remember that place?) immediately came to mind when I heard about this place selling frozen yogurt. Fortunately this place was nothing like those TCBYs I remember, & that's a very good thing. We stopped by Yo Mama after 7pm one weeknight evening. The line was out the door! Note to self: go during off-peak hours. The line did move quickly; however, you'll want to avoid the larger crowds to give yourself time to choose among the many delicious flavors of frozen yogurt & 35 toppings. On my first visit, they had Heath Toffee and Reese's Peanut butter flavors, in addition to other unique flavors & the standard tart, vanilla & chocolate frozen yogurt. They even had some non-dairy options! I love that they allow you to sample any of the flavors before you decide which to buy, but it probably wasn't a great idea to put the fro-yo machines nearest to the door. I haven't seen anyone walk out with samples, but I can see how it would be possible. The toppings. Oh so many wonderful choices! I spun around like Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music". Every creation I've tried was absolutely delicious, and I couldn't stop repeating to myself, "This is FROZEN YOGURT?" I recently had the dulce de leche & Georgia peach flavors. Nothing less than spectacular. And I now know how much Golden Grahams (the cereal) absolutely belong in frozen dairy treats. Bottom line, they had Island Banana and Dutch Chocolate - grabbed some raspberries and kiwi and I was in heaven. The fro-yo is really good here and that banana was killer. They had a few other flavors that sounded really good too. Tons of fruit toppings, cereals, candies - even Valentines hearts! Absolutely worth it for $3 and Ruby Tap even allowed us to bring it in and have it with our wine. There's actually a door connecting the two from inside, someone is very clever! read more

I will be going to Yo Mama for the fourth time today. I think that gives an accurate indication of my feelings about the place, given that it's only been open a few weeks, but just in case you need to know more ... The Yo Mama business model is pretty freaking brilliant. The whole set up is self-serve, meaning you can sample as many (or as few) yogurts and toppings as you wish in a single dish. Your dish is weighed out after you load up with your preferred combo. Flavors are fun and sometimes surprising (root beer float, red velvet cake), but the classics are always available as well. I'm usually more interested in toppings than the actual delivery mechanism (AKA Ice cream/frozen yogurt) and in this category, Mama does not disappoint. From the expected (hot fudge, cookie dough, sprinkles, nuts) to the unexpected (TONS of fresh fruit and cereals) to the WTF (boba!), you won't have a problem building the perfect frozen creation. Yo Mamma offers a variety of ice cream and slushies. With its ten different flavors, Yo Mamma provides many options. When you first walk in you will have 3 sizes of cups for ice cream. With those 3 sizes, you can fill up your cup with how much ice cream you want, even different flavors. The flavor is not just the basic chocolate and vanilla. They have coconut, cake batter, and many more flavors. After getting ice cream, you can head over to the topping bar where you can choose from over 20 different toppings. The toppings range from chocolate to gummy worms and all sorts of candy. Also, you can use the do-it-yourself topping where all you have to do is twist a knob and toppings come out. Yo mamma just doesn't have ice cream, they have slushies too which you can get blue raspberry or cherry. Since there is a global pandemic some people don't want to leave the house, but Yo Mamma is a safe environment. They have hand sanitizer at all the entrances/exits. They also have hand sanitizer where you pick out the ice cream. A worker comes out regularly and washes all the do-it-yourself toppings and the do-it-yourself ice cream. The worker at the toppings station uses gloves and switches them regularly, and to be extra safe there is plexiglass covering the toppings stand so no germs will be spread by people or the workers on the toppings. At the register, the cashier will weigh your cup and give you a spoon. Instead of giving back the spoon due to covid, u get to keep them. When you sit down the chairs are spread apart and so are all the tables. Due to the pandemic workers have gotten a little crabby, but not at Yo Mamma. These workers are cheerful and very nice. They will thank you for choosing Yo Mamma and they will treat you with respect. Yo Mamma is one of the best ice cream places out there and I would definitely recommend it. Welcome to the DIY Fro-yo shop! I was a bit put off at first, and felt overwhelmed and confused by the whole DIY "thing", but my friend insisted it would be ok... And let me tell you, after my dutch chocolate and coconut swirl topped with cinnamon toast crunch (YES.. YOU HEARD ME RIGHT.. CINNAMON.TOAST.CRUNCH), hot fudge, and oreos everything was MORE than ok. I feel like Ive been so lucky to be having such great experiences at places that Im able to award them good star marks! Ok the basic idea behind this is a serve yourself frozen yogurt place. This place is an indecisive person's dreammmmmmmmmm. They have excellent flavors that they run all the time, like a FF, SF chocolate, Dutch Chocolate, Cake Batter and Vanilla to name a few.. they always have tart/sorbet flavors.. Then come the seasonals... OMG.. so good! Egg Nog, Peppermind Candy Cane.. Pumpkin.. these are examples of ones I have seen in my few times going there. And look at that.. I havent even gotten started on the toppings.. whatever you like, they have it.. whatever you want, they also probably have it.. I hate to admit that I am pretty plain when it comes to what I get but I have a boyfriend who puts everything but the kitchen sink on his Yo Mama's and I can honestly say that he is like a little kid whenever we go there.. there are more healthy options and then there are things like brownie bites, or cereals... its really got something for everybody.. Parking can be annoying, but thats how parking is EVERYWHERE in DT Tosa... Should my 100th review go to this tasty, yummy, deliciously cute yogurt shop? Oh yes, yes it should. I had been wanting to try Yo Mama! since I heard it was opening and finally did last weekend. My only experience with these type of yogurt shops was in California and I loved them. So glad they are becoming super popular here. I believe Yo Mama was the first in the area, so yay for them! This shop is cute. Nicely decorated and a lot bigger than I thought it would be. There's plenty of seating. The shop was full of families and kids coming from soccer practice and babies and couples and well just about anyone. I love that you can sample their flavors before you commit. We sampled a bunch and they were um, yum! I decided to get the twist of red velvet and cake batter with a few chocolaty toppings. Quite good. I like that you can get something healthy or choose to go the decadent route depending on your mood. The price was reasonable. 6 dollars and some change for two small yogurts. Although I'm sure if you're not careful with toppings, the price could add up. The employees were friendly and good about keeping the place clean and running smoothly. Yo Mama is pretty good but is no Yo Factory. Overall the frozen yogurt is good, with a wide variety. The toppings are ample, but missing Nutella--a fro yo must for me. The customer service varies but is generally on the annoyed/grumpy side. There's one older lady who works there and she is very nice. The younger cashiers have not been friendly at all toward us. The environment is "modern" style-- which translates to cold and sterile. Fro yo needs to be in a warm environment so I want to eat something frozen! Especially during winter! read more

Had heard rumors making their way around the south-side of the city that Yo Mama was serving up some tasty fro-yo and offering a whole heap of toppings in a self-serve setting...So, my daughter and I decided to stop in and see what all the buzz was about. We were greeted at the door by a guy named CC who not only showed us the ropes, but offered up incredible suggestions. Clearly, this guy is a master YO-Ologist with years of experience! I also like the hand sanitizer dispenser at the front of the food line. There were enough gluten free choices to make me happy. I was sad I could not have the red velvet frozen yogurt. Wow...this place would NOT have business at all if it was in another other city that have yogurt places like Pinkberry, Yogurtland, Red Mango...etc. Very disappointed...first of all...45cents/oz?!? The tart flavors?...kinda gross...it was just wrong...it wasn't really tart. It just tasted like frozen yogurt, and by yogurt, I mean the yogurt you buy in the yogurt isle in the grocery store. Tart fro-yo should have a slightly acidic taste to it that almost tickles your tongue. Think of those small asian yogurt drinks (yakult). They do have a variety of things to choose from and you can have split flavors. But more of the flavors are just your typical 'fro-yo' flavors. While there's not much to say about Yo Mama!, there's nothing bad to say about it either. The location is convenient, by the downtown area of Wauwatosa, and it is extremely clean and cozy. I can only imagine how busy it gets in summer, but in this chilly weather, there was no wait, and the service was fast and friendly. I loved the cinnamon roll frozen yogurt, and I had to consciously reign myself in from going crazy on the toppings. There are almost TOO many choices, and while the toppings are semi organized, I almost wish they had suggestions for which would go well together. Love. It. There were oodles of DIY fro-yo shops in San Francisco so when we moved to Milwaukee, yes, custard is plentiful, but boy have I missed my fro-yo. I had never heard of this place, seeing as I am very far out of touch with what's cool in my older age, until it was recommend by a friend as a place to try after dinner. At first I thought we were taking a trip back to the 90s, when "Snaps" had books written about them and "Yo Mama" jokes were as common as Friends quotes. Turns out it's a frozen yogurt place. Oh! So THAT'S what the Yo stands for! After getting over how long it took me to put the name together with what it was, we were off. The place is located in downtown Tosa and it's as hip and trendy as you'd expect. Walking in kind of felt like walking into an Ikea catalog but the crowd was diverse and the place was packed, so there was no real feel of pretense. As soon as you walk in, you read the signs and you're told what to do. Pick a cup up, look at the 10+ choices on frozen yogurt, pick one, then put a ton of stuff on top of it. I thought there was a nice variety of flavors from standard to things like pumpkin and blueberry. Each serving machine has two flavors in it with the ability to swirl two together. I went for a swirl of NY Cheesecake and Dutch Chocolate and was pretty pleased with it. It's probably not quite as awesome as standard Ice Cream or Frozen Custard, but it's not too far behind either. After that, I got to pick from what felt like 100 choices on toppings (probably closer to 35, I'm easily overwhelmed). I stayed in the chocolaty/candy area of things but there was fresh fruit, fruity candy and cereals. Really, anything you might think is good on frozen yogurt, they probably have it. I had some Oreos, Reese's peanut butter cups and chocolate chips. The ability to self-serve shines here, because you can get as crazy with your toppings as you want. After you are done, you take it to a scale and pay 45 cents an ounce, which felt to be pretty fair. For a medium cup fled to the brim I paid under $5 and it was absolutely worth that. The yogurt was good, the mixings varied and the price was nice. Pretty much so nothing to complain about here. It really only misses out on 5 stars do to my preference for (the less healthy) ice cream or custard. This is a great place to go to on a hot day or after dinner snack. Yo mama is so... No, I'm not going to write down those jokes, b/c it's been done. But I've got some good ones, so next time you see me - let's battle. But this cute, new froyo joint has a lot of potential and a lot of customers. The line can be ridiculous, but it moves pretty fast. Here's the thing - if you've been spoiled by the likes of PinkBerry, Red Mango, & YogurtLand...it just won't live up to those. But since Wisconsin doesn't have any of those chains, then Yo Mama! ends up being near the top. To be honest, the froyo was just so dang icy! Not smooth as other joints and not even as flavorful. Tasted like I had a cold and was so congested that all the flavors (except dutch chocolate) were muted. Pretty disappointing. The decor is great, although the "directions" aren't as well placed. If you've never done it before, it could be confusing. But just follow the hordes of people down the line and remember to look right and left for topping options. All in all, this joint is a great addition to Tosa and I'm glad that more Wisconsinites are being exposed to this type of yumminess. I give it 3 stars mostly because the service was nice, place was clean, and it has good decor. Otherwise, the yogurt itself (although a lot of variety), was just "Meh". I didn't know what all the hype was about. I mean seriously, its frozen yogurt. The hubby and I decided to go there one night after Starbucks. We wanted to know what everyone was so excited about. We were lucky and didn't have the "line out the door" to wait through. It's self serve. The hardest part for me was deciding which frozen yogurt flavor to try as there were many. Then there are dispensers of toppings. Again, many choices so I was a little over stimulated. The cost wasn't bad, about $9 for two bowls of pure joy. He goes because of the toppings: Captain Crunch, brownie bits, fresh fruit, hot caramel, cheesecake bites, granola, Cinnamon Toast Crunch... I am always pleased to see two employees stationed at the toppings bar an self-serve station. They work like silent cleaning robots, sweeping up and wiping up spilled sprinkles and yogurt drips. The employees keep the self-serve bars very clean which I can't imagine is an easy task with the sometimes line-out-the-door wait of customers. At .45 an ounce who doesn't want soft-serve frozen yogurt? It isn't the best frozen yogurt but it is good. It's good enough to go a few times a week during heat waves and steamy nights. I have no complaints about this place...Other than the gobs of children...But, alas that cannot be avoided. The price is nice and you get to fill up your cup self serve style and load your toppings. Lots of fat free options which you can then ruin by covering with brownie chunks (I know from experience). And gluten free options as well! My eyes are always bigger than my tummy, so filling my own bowl helps me control how much I eat. They've never steered me wrong in the past, and they continue to make excellent recommendations. Result - I've been back about five times since my initial visit. I'd like to begin this review by stating whoever was responsible for planning the layout of downtown Wauwatosa needs to be resurrected and thoroughly harangued. The street design makes absolutely no sense. Whatevs, from the vanilla to the mango to the red velvet to the strawberry, it's all good. Yeah...you have the option of putting healthy stuff like strawberries, kiwi, raspberries, blueberries, nuts in your cup. I ignore those and load up on gummy bears, oreos, and white chocolate chips. Yo Mama! Is SUPER fun. I've been there with the youth group from my church and alone with my husband. Fun on both trips. I was very impressed with the fruit toppings available! BLACKBERRIES! There is seating outside and inside. The inside seating is delightfully whimsical..."Beetlejuice" - ian chairs. OK its a bit pricey. And the line can be a little chaotic with people cutting in line unintentionally or intentionally...but both times I went through the line with excited packs of youth. Yo Mama's scratch ice cream is definitely one of the best ice creams we've ever tasted. I highly recommend your flavor of choice (my flavor was cheesecake) in a thick, yummy waffle cone. And the prices are so much better than other yogurt/ice cream shops and based on taste, I would have expected to pay more. And they run specials and you can add all the toppings you want for a buck (at least you could on the day we went). Great ice cream, great business, and customer service was top notch too. Hello tasty frozen snack. I hate downtowns with no structure and too many one way streets. Wauwatosa and Waukesha come to mind. I generally avoid them, so I made someone else drive me to Yo Mama. There are too many options, but fortunately, they let you sample all of them before making a decision. I think there were about a dozen different flavors. So, after sampling, you pick out a cup and fill it up! I had a swirl of kiwi strawberry sorbet and alpine vanilla froyo. Yummy yummy in my tummy. I added a few bits of fresh fruit and some fruit bead looking thing that ended up being too far off the gushers deep end. Then they weigh it, you pay them, and you are on your way. The toppings options really are impressive. I skipped all the cereal, candy, and traditional toppings since I arrived literally when it opened and decided to consider my treat breakfast. In fact, the cashier confirmed this and stated "without any candy or anything, it actually is pretty healthy". Take that, pancakes. read more

Want just a little stomach settling coolness, or a jumbo amount to freeze your innards, it's all your call. They charge by the ounce (.45 cents) for whatever you place in your cup) They have toppings upon toppings for your tabula rassa bowl of frozen canvas. Seriously, I think someone was under a severe case of the munchies when they were deciding what they would have for toppings. From Frutti Pebbles to Sixletts, to fresh fruit to crushed heath bars... it's all there. The Bad It's VERY easy for your eyes to become bigger than your stomach (or wallet!!) If your with a child, I'd recommend the smallest container and an even hand with the toppings. Left to their own devices your child could easily create an insulin bomb of the WMD magnitude. And that same advice goes for adults. Go a size smaller than you think you want and you'll avoid either forcing yourself to finish, or tossing it into the bin. The Ugly Oh MY God... there is waffles and cookies that you can buy to dip/scoop/shovel into your concoction. Seriously??? Waffle cookies with the edges dipped in lemon frosting, chocolate or peanut butter??? After what feels like ages of hearing the hype about Yo Mama!, I finally made the pilgrimage to Tosa to check it out. And it was totally worth it. Pros: -Variety of yogurts ranging from chocolatey to plain-ish to fruit to seasonal (I had pumpkin - woot!) -Choice of portion sizes ranging from a small treat to a larger cup -LOTS of toppings. Like, whoa. -Clean, nicely decorated, pleasant to visit -Friendly staff -Decent prices/value Cons: -It can get a little chaotic. I think we accidentally ended up there after a high school football game. Oops. -The DIY fro-yo thing still seems to be settling in with Milwaukee, which results in lots of customers standing, staring blankly at the options, overwhelmed by the opportunities that lie ahead. This place rocks my face off. I can't believe I didn't know there was a 'Tosa location. I'm the schmuck that almost drive from Milwaukee to Brookfield on a Frozen Yogurt quest! Thanks Yelp for saving me gas and mileage!!! It's a hot day here in Milwaukee, and it was pretty busy with people inside and outside but zero line in front of me as I walked back and forth looking at all the flavors listed on the 5 machines. That's not 5 flavors, that 5 x 2 flavors! That's right indecisive people like me. That's 10 different yes or nos you have to make before you get to the toppings. You CAN swirl between the two in the same machine or choose a little bit of each of them. (You can also taste test flavors you've never had before which I appreciate!) And ready to make matters more confusing??? Flavors change weekly, so you find something you love and next week it could be different. Indecisive people of the world, it's ok! Because the three I mixed today were pretty tasty. So grab a cup, fill it, and pay for what you fill. There's 35some toppings to choose from too (I suggest cookie dough - I could go with just a cup full of it without the yogurt part - that's how highly I regard it. I'm a sugar addict. Caught me! :) For two medium size cups filled with yogurt and topping it came to about $10, but the experience was fun and it's a different flavor than ice cream. With no change in temperature in sight, we'll be back sometime soon for more and to try next week's flavors! read more

Great place for some great Froyo! A bit too many kids for my liking, they tend to be messy and are not very conscientious of what they are doing with the condiments. Parking at this location could be better, especially on a popular evening. That's not their fault though. Can't wait to try the new brookfield location. read more

Just visited for the fourth time last night and still in love. And guess what--when I went back the day after my first visit and the labels were up! Since they also had stickers for the cups that day, I'm assuming the order from the printer was probably late, hence the delay. Have tried a few more flavors now (and I love that they rotate flavors regularly)--Irish Mint is deliciously strong and would be perfect with chocolate, the pom raspberry is FANTASTIC swirled with the original tart, and the plain vanilla is creamy sweet. We stopped here after visiting the Museum of Art. The kids were in the mood for ice cream so we searched for something nearby. It's frozen yogurt. You choose which kind you want or you can mix them. Free samples are available. Then, you put your yogurt in your cup (variety of sizes) and add the toppings. There's hot fudge, hot carmel, cookie dough, brownie bites, different cereals, m & m's and many more candies, fruits, nuts, and much more. Yum! You pay based on the weight. read more

Always a treat for my kids. So many topping choices. Feels clean and the sample cups let you try what you want. You can sample on your own and not have to ask them for the samples. I rarely add toppings because it's great without all the stuff on top, but for those that like all the toppings, you don't be disappointed. I love ice cream. Yo mama is located in the village in Tosa. In any summer day, you will find the place filled with children eagerly holding up their yogurt bowls and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of yogurt ice cream in front of them. Seating is difficult to find, but outside there are some tables as well as people just seem to sit on the grass or sidewalk as well. The concept is fun, ice cream by weight. They have different flavors every day, and always a few fat free and at least one sugar free option daily. There are a lot of toppings, some really fun ones like boba, many different types of cereal, marshmallows, crushed up candies. The price is very reasonable. The froyo itself is hit or miss I think. Sometimes quite delicious, at other times, can taste rather boring or watered down, but who cares when you can pile topping after topping on top of it! Overall, a very fun place to take your kids and has very good variety. We don't come here too often because it can be overwhelmingly full at times and like I said, hit or miss with regards to taste. read more
