This is in reference to their "anatomy training program." I would give zero stars if I could. This studio is run by hypocrites who claim they are there to guide you along on your yogic journey. Did you know they have a "six-month training program" in which they recruit gullible want-to-be yoga teachers to take an anatomy class, charge them for the class, and then have them work shifts at the studio ranging anywhere from 3 to 10 hours a week, and don't pay them for their time and effort? So basically you end up paying the studio so you can go mop their floors for them, all while being treated like crap by Nicole and her toady, Esther. Yep, so if you do their "training program", you'll be doing more mopping and cleaning sweaty yoga mats left behind by people who can afford a $50 yoga class, than actually learning anything about yoga, cause guess what? You're not even allowed to take classes while you're on your shift, so good luck with that. Because it's only 6 people max per class, get ready to be turned away when you come early for class, but paying members (oops, you too are a paying member, since you've given them you're money for their flimsy anatomy class!) will always take precedence over you. You'll come out of this "training program" without a certificate or anything to your credit. And all the time, you'll have to put up with Nicole's two-faced "holier than thou" business-bottom-line treating you like shit attitude, while she caters to her rich clientele and treats you as though you're an employee. GUESS WHAT NICOLE: ONLY PEOPLE YOU PAY ARE EMPLOYEES. People who are paying you for a class are indeed your clientele, not your slaves! So how about you stop breaking NY State Law by duping people into working for free at your business establishment? WOULD-BE AND FUTURE YOGA TEACHERS: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS STUDIO. Yoga 216 is the new hot spot when it comes to yoga studios!!! I came in for a class one day, not expecting too much, but I was really intrigued about their "different approach". As I walked in, I was welcomed by one of their friendly yogis, not sure if it was the girl but instantly, I felt that the place had a very calming and peaceful vibe. She quickly walked me through their programs and gave me a quick tour of the studio. The decor is low key but with a shabby chic twist, which I loved! The changing rooms, bathrooms, and the mats were impeccable, which to me says a lot about how clean the place is overall. When I walked into the studio to get ready for class, 6 mats were already placed on the floor, each accompanied with a clean towel. Where do you get this kind of service? No where, at least not in the city. Having everything already set up for me was one the most pleasant surprises, up until the class began. Nicole Katz was the teacher that day, an incredible super knowledgeable girl. This was the first time ever, that I was able to get into certain poses and actually understand how my body is supposed to align itself to perform better. With just one class, Nicole changed my view about yoga and thanks to her, as soon as the class was over, I signed up for a one year membership. Yoga at Yoga216 ("Pain that has not yet come is avoidable", Yoga Sutras 2:16) I got to know the studio through a friend of mine who recommended it. I enrolled into the FAYT program, and began my journey in form of a work-study format. WOW! I love the space, I love to work there, I love all the people there. It is the most rewarding and wonderful experience. I have already 400h as a yoga teacher and did the anatomy program to deepen my knowledge, especially as a teacher who wants to teach individual yoga that is alignment based and focused on every persons individual needs. I strongly believe that a refined knowledge of anatomy is the key to being a well-rounded and truthful teacher. We are all different and therefore need a teacher who can address individual conditions and make us feel that there is not one shape or yoga pose. After the passing Yoga 216 banner that you can see from the HIgh Line on my walk home for the 5th or 6th time, I finally went to their site and got their intro package for a week. Great way to try the studio and get a good idea of the classes. The studio has a very relaxed and welcoming feel, very "local neighborhood" type place. Since there are never more than 6 people in a class, it's like getting a semi private each time with helpful adjustments. So far have taken classes with Nicole and Naomi, both terrific but with different styles, which is a nice change. The studio itself provides just about everything you could possibly want amenities wise...private changing room, private shower, private bathroom, tea, great tasting healthy cookies, towels, mats, blocks etc.... and everything is super clean and included....except for the coconut water of course. I found 216 when I stumbled upon its first yoga teacher training anatomy program and six months later I'm now part of the family! The space is maintained with a lot of love - spotless and beautiful with everything you could ever need as a practitioner, including Jade mats and props already set out in the studio and Blow hair products and fluffy robes in the private dressing rooms. The teachers really know their stuff and since there is a max of 6 yogis per class you get all the attention of a semi-private lesson. The focus is on alignment and each month the sequences are based around a particular pose, so your practice will progress much faster than at most studios. I like to say you get the experience of a yoga retreat (thanks to the serene environment, community vibe and personalised attention) without having to leave the city! read more

I am currently taking the functional anatomy yoga teacher training at Yoga 216. Even at halfway through the training, I've learned so much and seen an enormous growth in my own practice as well as in my teaching. The studio is beautiful and serene, providing a very pleasant learning experience. Nicole and Esther, who lead the training are both kind, thoughtful, helpful, supportive, nurturing and knowledgeable teachers. The boutique atmosphere of the studio allows for a very intimate and community-oriented experience, which makes learning both more effective and more fun. Love love love this place.! The space is gorgeous, clean and welcoming, it has a spa feel that invites to you to take a break from the city as you step inside. I have been to many studios in NY and this is my favorite (specially Nicole's class). If you haven't tried hot yoga before I recommend you do it here, it makes a huge difference when you share your air (and sweat) with a small number of people instead of a tight crowd like the other studios in the city. You'll feel energised, strong and positive the rest of your day. Simply put: A studio that actually teaches you how to do yoga better, regardless of level. The small-group setting (classes max out at 6 per class) allows the instructors to guide, adjust and challenge you safely and productively. They almost dare you not to learn something. There's an asana-of-the-month (e.g., wheel, handstand, warrior II) that is the focus of all classes, with each week focusing on a different core element of the asana. At the end of the month, you'll have your version of it down. There's little not to like about this place. Did I mention the bowl of ginger cookies and tea? I've been searching for a place like yoga 216 for as long as I've lived in the city. You walk in and immediately get an at home feeling, the girls are so welcoming and friendly. Plus the studio is very clean which is a huge. They have both a hot yoga and regular yoga room. before going I thought i was only into hot yoga but they showed me you can get a great work out in the non heated room as well. Yoga 216 is the most well thought out yoga studio in new york. Semi-Private (6 per class), Hot and Cold Yoga, do not have to bring a mat and the teachers (Nicole, Melissa and Cynthia) are well trained and make everyone feel comfortable at any skill level. I have been going for 6 months and have really gained a better understanding of not only the physical part of yoga but the essential mental parts. Furthermore, Nicole does a very good job of weaving a lesson plan into every class so individuals can if they want apply those into their personal life. read more

I can't say enough great things about Yoga 216! I've only been practicing a short time but the impact yoga has made in my life is incredible. I was intimidated at first to try yoga but the 6 person max in each class drew me in and the staff put me at ease right away. Each teacher has a slightly different style and are super well trained. I'm currently in the yoga teacher training program for anatomy lovers at Yoga 216 and am so happy with this program. I'm learning so much more than I have at other yoga teacher trainings and am very happy to be a part of this incredibly rewarding community. It is so important for any Yoga teacher to have a good grasp on anatomy and how to apply this knowledge to certain injuries. I do not do yoga -- my review is for the massage I had here, courtesy of Mage. FANTASTIC. I'd been having what I thought were rotary cuff issues which, she explained, had nothing to do with my rotary cuff. After my awesome massage, she gave me stretches to do for said issue (3 of them), told me to take arnica pills, and voila - it's been several weeks and I feel a lot better. The best part - a one hour massage is $70, but I happened in on a weekend where they were offering $40 for one hour. HEAVEN and affordable. read more

I have been a fan of Yoga 216 since they opened a little over a year ago. I wish I made it there more often than I do. But tonight's class was truly the best! I had an amazing experience at this studio! I came in for an early morning Flow class as recommended by my family and the studio/class absolutely lived up to the hype. The studio was on the smaller side but very peaceful and calming. The instructor (Esther) was fantastic and made me feel right at home even though it was my first time back on the yoga mat in a while. I have been taking the Tuesday 12 noon class with Jennifer McCarthy at 216 for about six months now. The studio is charming and well run. Jennifer is a very skilled yoga teacher for all levels and works individually with each student to improve their practice; she has tremendous energy, but also conducts class with a sense of humor and easy going nature that creates a very warm yoga environment. I've been a member of Yoga 216 for the last year and a half. I have consistently had a great experience at the studio and thoroughly enjoy the smaller class size. (In fact, a small group is the only way I will do any sort of group classes!) The teachers at Yoga 216 know more than just your name - it's a place where your ever-changing body (injuries from life, pregnancy, etc!) is always top priority and discussed. Honestly one of the best yoga studios I have been to. I was hesitant at first because it is expensive, but it's so worth it. Classes are small and intimate, almost like semi-private workshops. The whole studio is a little peaceful retreat in the middle of the city, with warm mint tea and ginger snaps always available and a clean shower and changing rooms. Plus, not having to lug a yoga mat to class is a huge plus! read more
