This is my favorite yoga studio right now. I love their classes and the instructors are great. No frills, just yoga. They also offer great pranayama and meditation classes as well! This is a nice yoga studio in the lower east side with a variety of classes. I really enjoyed the Sunday evening restorative class. It's definitely more of a relaxing and meditative class than a workout, but it's the perfect way to reset before the week. read more

Bhakti center is now my favorite place to take yoga classes. I'd heard about it from a friend and started coming here after a teacher I really liked (MaryAllison) started teaching here. Each teacher has their own style so I encourage you to try multiple teachers. So far I've gone to classes with Jamuna, Brinda, Pooja and Vera - all have been amazing but somewhat different in pace for the Bhakti Flow classes, with Jamuna's Monday class being the fastest and Vera's Friday class being just what I need to slow down and end the week (still a challenging class though). What I really love about Bhakti center is that it's not just a yoga center, it's a cultural, spiritual center, and so they weave yogic philosophy into each class. I can honestly say it's been helping me cope much better with every day stressors of life far beyond the yoga mat, and for that I am forever grateful. I went back several times since my last review to complete the 2 week trial membership and I really loved it. I will continue to go back and not let that 1 bad experience with 1 person taint the place. Again, the studio is very nice, clean, simple, and spacious. All the teachers were fabulous. We organized a series of presentations in this beautiful space. Everyone was very kind and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The second you walk in, there are inviting scents and colors. Once again, the yoga thug is on the prowl. I took a suggestion from a fellow Yelper to get the Pulsd deal for this studio ($20 for 20 classes) and boy I am so happy to have found this place! I came here for a Sunday 7pm Open class. The Bhakti Center was closed, but if you take the door right to the left, you will be let into the building and the yoga studio is on the second floor. They have 1 big yoga practising room and another smaller one. Many yogis that came tonight (about 9 of us) had some kind of a coupon deal. The class I took was taught my a husband and wife combo and I really enjoyed how they instructed in the class. We started off the class with some music by the husband. I love when studios bring out the harmonium, play and sing. The music immediately calmed me and I was ready for some good stretching. I also really enjoyed the fact that the husband was telling us a story throughout the whole class. We started with some warm-ups, which included some jumping jacks and then we moved thru some pretty intense poses, Vinyasa-style. I definitely got a good sweat on and my hips opened up quite a bit. After about 30 minutes of this high-intensity Vinyasa, the wife took over and got us into more deep stretches, with longer hold times. I really appreciated the hip openers and always enjoy a good pigeon pose stretch. I am so tight in the hips, but with each day, I am getting looser and after 10 years of practising, I am seeing progress and fluidity. It pays to stick to your yoga practise. We ended class with a bit of a high beats kirtan. Groovy! I walked out of the class refreshed, smiling and oh so happy I found this oasis in the "wild city" we live in. And the instructors bought yummy treats (laddoos) to share with us. I am definitely coming back for the rest of my 19 classes. Hopefully, I'll be able to come on a day the cafe is also open. Oh, and just to note, yoga mats are complimentary and they do offer water and tea, but bring your own container. I love this place, thanks Bhakti Center for a wonderful Sunday night and many more nights of good stretching. read more

I LOVE the Bhakti Center. I was introduced to it by my friend about a year ago. During that time, I attended Thursday night kirtan, a couple festivals including the Pearl festival a few days ago (where I also signed up for seva) and took an Ayurveda cooking class. I am looking forward to taking yoga classes as well. The Bhakti Center is peaceful, spiritual (everyone is welcome regardless of religious affiliation-or not), welcoming, soulful, genuine and positive. Whenever I visit, I always leave feeling lifted and serene. A brand new expanded café will be opening soon. Their food is quite good. I recommend to visit The Bhakti Center for any of their weekly events, special festivals, yoga or just to experience the goodness that is transmitted from the wonderful people who run it. This is one of the best yoga studios I have been to in NYC for overall attention to the students and a holistic approach to the mind and body. My favorite instructor is Julie Pasqual who generally teaches Wednesdays. The class is quite intimate and starts with a reading and singing to Krishna. You don't have to be religious to join in since the Bhakti Center welcomes all. Go in with an open mind and get to singing because it's such a beautiful chant that relaxes you before diving into practice. One day after class, I had the pleasure of attending an event for The Festival of Lights and what an experience! They had local vendors serving Indian food, henna, performances, and singing. There was also a vegan food event and a smores' night I couldn't make it to, but if you're all about community definitely give this place a try! This is one of my favorite yoga studios ever. Jai is the man-- his classes offer a reasonably challenging workout, but his guidance, both humorous and serious, is amazing. He reads from the Vedas at the end of every class and plays the harmonium to open and close. I don't usually go in for "spiritual experiences," but it's really a treat and a reflective experience to hear him speak. The studio itself is clean and attractive, and classes are reasonably priced and available on Class Pass. They also offer some donation-based classes. Recommended if you're in the market for something more thoughtful than the often-frantic vinyasa flows (both heated and otherwise) that this city tends to prioritize. read more

I'm extremely grateful to count the The Bhakti Center (TBC) as one of my home yoga studios. TBC offers vinyasa flow asana in a beautiful setting that feels more like being in India than in the East Village of NYC. Several teachers include the aspects of Bhakti yoga, such as beautiful harmonium playing and mantra chanting, during the classes which provided an added spiritual flavor and aid in going deeper in the moving meditation. Besides the normal class schedule, TBC offers a variety of yoga community events, such as Thursday evening Kirtan (mantra chanting and ceremony) and study groups, so if interested you can go beyond the physical practice. Several of the teachers have been monks who live the yoga lifestyle that they teach, which makes for a much more authentic experience. read more

I found the Bhakti Center through my yoga teacher training with Stanton Street Yoga a little over a year ago. I came for the yoga asana classes and learned so much more beyond the physical practice. The Bhakti Center is a community center and a spiritual home. In addition to daily yoga and meditation classes, they host weekly kirtan every Thursday for the people to get together and share their love. There are also many spiritual lectures, festivals, community groups, workshops and other social events and gatherings happening at the Bhakti Center every day. Before I found the Bhakti Center, I was living a pretty materialistic life in New York City. The Bhakti Center created a space where I learned to see beyond the material life, connect within and with each other on a soul level. Took a class here tonight and I was really happy with the quality of the class and the teacher. The staff was friendly and they have a huge array of workshops as well... The studio is large and clean and you can tell that people care. There is also a cafe downstairs from Thursday-Sunday. I've been looking for a home for my yogi heart since returning from a long retreat and although NYC has a number of amazing studios, many of them are focused on the asana practice and not the other 7 limbs of yoga... But I think I found that place. They have regular Gita talks and kirtan at little to no cost, which makes my heart (and wallet) smile! What a lovely place! It's a little 'zen' inside the city. The classes are really affordable and the teachers are all very knowledgable and extremely helpful. The open level class also gives you lots of different options base on your ability. Chanting and inner peace is also a big part of the practice. This center offers very calming and relaxing environment. The yoga studio is very clean and warming atmosphere. Mats, blankets and blocks are all provided. The temple is separate from the yoga studio area, each on different floors. The Temple is a pretty neat experience. A great place to open your mind and just enjoy the present. U will find a lot shrines in the temple and lots of uplifting chanting. The group is so warming and welcoming and offer a great sense of community. During my two hundred hour yoga training with TSY, we visited this center and had a great teaching lesson on the limbs of yoga by a prior monk who teaches at the Center and is genuinely passionate and knowledgeable. The center offers workshops about the limbs and other topics. I would recommend these workshops if they are anything like the session we experienced. read more

My Yoga home! At this sanctuary in the chaos of the LES is where I found everything I had been looking for in a yoga practice/teacher(s). I attend class without fail on monday nights with Sondra and have taken class with almost all of the teachers here. I'm not even close to kidding when I say this is a collection of some of the finest teachers in NYC, Such care and devotion to the students and the teachings. It's so nice to walk in and see familiar faces and run into people from the neighborhood here. The afternoon class is great for freelancers or people that don't work 9-5 (also not crowded!!) I have attended several level 1 yoga classes here and loved them! The room is spacious and does not get crowded. Teachers are all very friendly, welcoming and professional. Mats are provided and free of charge. I got this deal from Groupon 2 years ago & I never looked at any other yoga place since then. I travel regularly from Chelsea to East Village Mondays to attend Bhakti center and I saw the number of people grow tremendously in these past 2 years. The owners are THE NICEST people ever, who put their heart and sole into this place. This yoga class helps me get rid of anxiety, mood swings and anger issues, as well as ditch the Monday blues, caused by living in the greatest city of the world Bhakti means "devotion" or "love" and the practice is kind of a mix of hatha and vinyasa, with breathing exercises, chanting & meditation. It is definitely more for the mind than the body, it heals your soul. I come out of the class totally renewed, a peaceful and focused New York City warrior. I used to go this place to take yoga classes and the most interested is the philosophy and the teachings in the Vedic scriptures, there are Bhagavat Gita, culinary, Sanskrit, music classes available. Also I recommend the Bhakti cafe with the delicious food and the people there are really nice and sweet. This Saturday is 22nd is the six hours Kirtan, sure I will be there. I highly recommend this place. p.s I just read the review dated 11/15/14 by A.J and the content of the review is completely false and doesn't make sense what is saying, because if somebody is getting poison needs to call the police, I believe this person has personality issues or it's looking for revange or was kicked out from there for something bad it did. read more
