At first when I first thought about joining Melody's class I was lost, desparate to lose weight, depressed and unable to do some things for myself. You see in 2006 I had extensive Back surgery, a 2 level spine Fusion that left my left ankle and foot paralyzed, I wear a brace on my leg, a present from surgery, along with a great loss of Range of Motion, unable to bend, put socks on without the aide of an apparatus to help me put them on, as well as having someone help me tie my shoes by myself.  I was overweight, stiff and very sad with all that happened to me. I couldn't go to a gym as I was unable to lift more than 5 lbs. I used to go to work by access-a-ride and now ride a regular express bus.  I only wish I had met her prior to surgery, maybe I wouldn't have required surgery. Doctor's told me I would always walk with a cane for the rest of my life. I was determined to do something. I searched for along time looking for the right kind of help that would not further damage my back. Well in 2010 a friend of mine suggested I try Yoga, I was so scared and thought I cannot bend like the preverbial pretzel. I wrote Melody and told her how I was feeling and what happened with surgery and how I couldn't move like I used to, and that I was told by Doctors that I would always use a cane for the rest of my life. She wrote me back within a day or two, and said she would work with me and would certainly help me. So I Said I would come to class and that was on July 5, 2010, well I didn't go because I was afraid. But did go the following week. She said she could show me how to do Yoga from a Chair and get the same results as if I was doing it standing up.  Well from that day forward I fell in love with Yoga and more so fell in love with the love, compassion and caring attitude of Melody.  She told me to stay after the first class and she would work with me and show me how to do various poses from the chair such as Downward Facing Dog, Chair pose, and many other poses. She took her time with me, didn't rush me or make me feel uncomfortable or inferior to her. Well, in the five years that I have been practicing with Melody, I have come full circle, between her continued support, patience, and guidance, I had lost 40 lbs, I no longer use a cane, I can put my own shoes and socks on without any assistance. She taught me, worked with me, I continued to grow with my practice, and went from a chair class to a regular class, to an open class which is a little more advanced in practice and postures. I couldn't have done it without her, and I just think that she should have a spotlight, mention in the paper because I cannot even begin to show her my gratitude and appreciation for what she has done for me.  I thought that me writing in and telling you my story would be the thank you that I could show her how much she has changed my life. The difference with Melody and her classes and others is she truly cares, loves all her students. She takes a true interest on her students well being. She has done wonders for me and many others. I have taking chair yoga classes wiith Melody for almost a year. I have arthritis in my knees and hips, with little to no cartilage left in my knees. These classes have improved my mobilty and balance,more than any other activities.I have even ventured into regular yoga classes. I had taken classes in the past but got away from it as I couldn't find a place with which I was happy. I'm glad to have come to these classes. The workouts are satisfying. many people don't think you can bebfit from chair exercise. I must say that it isn't true.As I said , I have made great improvement and feel better because of this. I have recommended yoga to many people and will continue to do so. The health benefits are amazing. One reason I stopped with yoga, was because my instructor was not longer teaching classes. Yoga teaches you to have no attachments, but I had difficulty in finding an instructor I liked. Melody fits the bill. She is well versed in yoga and makes you feel welcome. in Sept 2014 I had a bad fall at work and broke all the ribs on my left side ,I fractured my back,my neck my eye socket. I also had a brain trauma and lost the vision in my left eye, and punctured my left lung.Beside the pain I was also getting dizzy,had loss of balance and my depth perception was off.I started yoga with Melody in December and her classes and private lessens were invaluable.She helped with my dizziness, and balance,helped with the pain in my ribs ,helped build core strength and flexibility and with my lung and breathing.I would not be in the shape I am in today without her help and guidance.I highly recommend anyone who needs help healing from an injury to give her a call and use her knowledge to help with your healing ... read more

I started doing yoga with Melody only 4 months ago, and I was amazed at how good I felt almost immediately. There were never any sore aching muscles after class, instead I felt invigorated and limber. This is because Melody guides you through class, modifying for beginners, and emphasizing that everyone should go at their own pace, and to go on to the more challenging positions, but, ONLY when you are ready. In this class you will get a good work out and so much more. This class is not about pushing yourself to physical exhaustion, but about nourishing yourself through deep breathing, and building strength and stamina through discipline. Yoga with Melody is not only an hour long yoga class but a change in lifestyle. I started doing yoga about 2 months ago as a way to cope with life stressors but what I got out of the class was so much more. Melody is a great yoga instructor who focuses on the transitions between poses and offers modifications for each pose. Although there are different modifications nobody is judged and everyone is encouraged to do what feels best for them. She continuously repeats what the next move will be so that it is easy to follow and themes each class around a certain lesson. Melody ties together the spirit and the physical to improve flexibility and strength, and reduce stress, in a Yoga class that works with my needs. She helps me get my forms right and describes and demonstrates postures (with modifications that maximize benefits to us). I find her really easy to talk to, to get advice and suggestions on how I can enhance my workout - and between workout - time. I also find my fellow students friendly and supportive. If you're looking for a way to relax, get some (in my opinion) safe exercise (I definitely attribute my far-fewer back problems to yoga), Melody's yoga class is a great place to set and work towards your goals. read more

I do yoga with Melody because even though you are in a group she treats you as an individual. There is nothing intimidating in her classes, you do what you can and she encourages you, give you instruction but at no time do you feel like you are being judged.
