I`m really conflicted on whether I should give a 3 or 4. Are the people there nice? Absolutely. Are the instructors accommodating to the various levels of people there? Yup. There are lots of great things about Yoga Belly. They have an easy-to-use website where you can sign up and pay for classes. There are rentals for different accessories. And they clean the floors pretty often. So why did I deduct 2 stars? I just feel really conflicted about heated yoga. When I think about yoga, one of the things that comes to mind is nature, and it seems rather hypocritical to be so destructive to nature/the environment by blasting the heater constantly, in order to keep the room at over 90 degrees. Obviously, this is far from the only studio that does this, but it does seem kind of dumb to me. Anyhow, it can get super crowded during the night classes, after people get off work. But if you can go to the morning ones, you should, because they`re usually fairly empty. read more

I've only tried Yoga Belly once - through my FitMob trial, but I have to say, their evening YB heated class with Barbara was one of the best ones I've taken. The studio is nicely constucted behind the Castro Street restaurant madness. It's designed well and peacefully and the front desk staff is SO SO SO friendly and help answer any questions you may have about the intensity and instructors of the classes. Barbara was the best. She walks you through the positions and of course does them herself. The routine had me smiling as I walked away but sore in the tri's a few days later. Great class! Great work out! Would definitley come back. Beware though as their evening classes do get packed. Go a little earlier to set up your mat and reserve your spot for this amazing class. read more

I just started going to this studio after finding it on yelp, and like others here I used to go to another studio up in Palo Alto. I loved the classes up there, but the drive was too much for me. after coming to this studio for one month I realized the beauty of having instructors and other workers knowing your name, which was impossible at the other studio. the classes are smaller and there are no "favorites" like I felt there were at the other studio, the ones who the instructors focus on and adjust...it seems like everyone is a "favorite" here. my only complaint is I wish they would have a couple Bikram classes here, too. that's the one thing I really miss, sometimes I just want a good old Bikram class, and I noticed that several of the instructors here have trained in Bikram so it seems it would be easy to add... read more

Let me start by saying that the most difficult thing i have found with Yoga (besides being one level below a beginner) is finding a studio that is inviting, challenging, and leaves you in a better mood after the session. I have done the super hot yoga before, the room temp yoga, and most everything in between. On that point; yoga belly seems to have hit the spot on not to hot, but just right ( I don't mean to sound like the three bears trying porridge) but its true! Yoga Belly was extremely inviting from the front desk interaction to the instructor. Even the other people taking the class were helpful (I needed it). Just their enthusiasm alone for the class made it that much more enjoyable. I would recommend this studio to anyone who is looking for a great workout that not only gets you moving but enhances your overall mood. 4.5 stars? Lol. The furnace at this studio is so loud and it rattles! I couldn't hear the instructor because of it. Why even have an instructor if you can't hear them? Also, no soap in the bathroom. There are free yoga classes out there that are better than this. read more

I started seeing Will for power yoga when he taught at peacebank yoga in redwood city. I was so happy to hear he started his own yoga studio. He is funny! He has the energy of a kid and he looks amazing. I adore his teaching. I always get the best work out. I love that they do so much to strengthen your core. I took class with Edna and she's also amazing but she'll kick your butt so be ready to be really sore the next day. It's totally worth it! The studio is nice and clean. Her degree of butt-kicking varies, but she keeps it reasonable; I've never wished for more, and I've never felt like I'm 6-feet-under. It's the porridge that's just right. It's been a week since I began taking classes here and I must say I am in Love! This studio has everything I was looking for. Instructors who know their stuff but are cool about it. It's been years since I practised yoga and these instructors make sure they help you out with your poses. I have worked so far with Stacey, William and Barbara, all of them bringing different approaches and different music but each one teaching me how to improve my core workout and helping me ease into practise. I must add here that this studio is all about community, they had a halloween bash recently with prizes for best dancers, best costume etc giving away yoga gear and classes. How fab is that! They also have a disco ball hanging in the studio where sometimes the instructors can help u let loose and teach you some steps of gangnam style. It being my fav number off late made me go all ga ga about this studio even more.. There are good deals to be had on groupon. I was also one of the many who thought yoga was just about stretching and that I needed to sweat to feel like I was getting a good workout. That's ironic since I sweat more in these yoga classes than I do at the gym. I moved back from living abroad for several years where I had picked up yoga and while I had quickly learned what a great workout it is, I had never had a power yoga class like at Yoga Belly. I was looking for something to do on my lunch break, ideally within walking distance of my office and when two studios fit the bill, I checked out Yoga Belly with the new student intro rate on their website. The first week or two was brutal, it had been at least a month since I'd done yoga or much of any other workout and here even the 'warm-up' jumps right in. That's what I need though -- the one hour lunchtime power yoga is perfect for my schedule and while it's tough that they don't have showers (and neither does my work), I've managed to make it work and try to go every day at lunchtime if I can. Generally the classes start on time and finish about 5 minutes late. If I have a 1pm meeting I have to get back for, I just duck out right on time and they never have any issue with that. The instructors really want to give everything they have and make sure they give you a good work out so they're generally not just watching the minutes until their hour is up. Most of them are good about saying, it's now 12:45 but if you can stay for a few minutes, do. As far as the classes, I could see how someone could come here and hate it -- it is a super hard work out, but I also love leaving feeling that I just made the best use of an hour work out. I think the classes are mostly hot yoga, although it varies by teacher and sometimes they'll turn off the heat mid-class, which I prefer anyway. Generally they'll see what people want. It's always good flow at lunchtime, holding poses, but very continuous. All the instructors I've had have great energy and enthusiasm and most are very good at correcting poses as well. I would say my favorite instructors are Edna, Will and Rebecca. Tracy is also good. I've done a few classes on the weekend, which are a LOT more crowded and since it's a full 1.5 hours (and often a little more), it's not quite as intense as the power hour classes. I'm not a fan of the class with Andy - had to hold the poses soooo long, it just wasn't for me, I think I'm more about flow. His class was packed too though so clearly it works for some people. Overall there's a great energy at the studio and the owner is great about wanting to make any improvements if people just speak up. I really only stick to the lunchtime classes now but there are lots of monthly special classes and stuff too. I highly recommend this studio for a great workout, while learning the true yoga form and being challenged to try poses you never thought you would. read more

Awesome place for a good hot and sweaty intense workout. Every class I've taken has been very challenging, and felt SO good after. It's more exercise than spiritual. I feel like the classes are good for students that are more advanced and know how to breathe and how their alignment should be. I noticed some students with alignment that can potentially lead to injuries and some instructors have been good about adjustments but others have not. The only negative is that I find it very inconvenient for a heated yoga studio to not have a bathroom indoors - there's a key for a bathroom outside (and not one that's always very clean). read more

Yoga Belly is a wonderful studio with great people and great teachers. The atmosphere is very friendly and fun, and students are sure to feel at home. The classes are heated, so that can be a challenge. They also play music, which may or may not be your thing, but I encourage people to try it and see how they like it. The teachers at the studio are great Jimmy, Edna, Jeff and Matt are teachers that I have taken and are great. Love. I just found out about this place and discovered they were offering free classes for their 1 year anniversary. Needless to say in 24 hours I have taken an Hour of Power class and a Yoga Belly class - both were excellent. I signed up for their $40/30day special and took advantage of their $85 a month unlimited special which ends today. While I will miss my Bikram practice in Palo Alto, I am super excited to have a local studio with a mix of classes, in a hot room, with nice owners who make you feel welcome, convenient parking and price plans that don't break the bank. read more

Have been attending the studio for a few months now and very much enjoy the experience. I've attended mostly Yoga Belly classes and the occasional YBX. Classes are very much full, so come about 10min prior to class to get a spot. Like many of you looking for an intro-level yoga session, Yoga Belly is perfect. You get a nice workout focused on core, practice some of the intro-poses and close with some stretching. Every teacher has a different method of teaching the class and while it's the same concept, you'll end up working out different areas of your body every time. Personally, Barbara is my favorite.. I come out drenched and the next day happily sore! Try out their intro prices and see if any of the teachers are of your liking. The studio it a nice size but the reception area is a bit compact. I look forward to them expanding the studio size and being able to add a few more classes and hours. read more

Last night was my first time Yoga Belly and I loved it! The studio is clean and the atmosphere felt good. I'd previously only taken Bikram yoga, my last class was years ago. 90 minutes in Bikram, for me, seemed forever but the class at Yoga Belly went by so quickly....I only looked at my watch once... I LOVE this studio. The yoga belly classes are great for all levels, but do not be intimidated if you're new to yoga or have never even been before. They provide towels, blocks, straps, and a mat rental if you don't have one. The teachers are super nice, energetic, and will give you lots of instruction to make sure you can easily follow along. They will also correct your posture to go deeper into a pose or assist you to prevent any injuries. What I'd recommend is to get there at least 10 minutes early if it's an evening class as those fill up quickly. I would also suggest that you try a few different teachers before deciding if this studio is right for you. Every teacher has a different style and music playlist so you might love one class more than another. My favorite teachers are Will, Barbara, Aaron, and Summer! But seriously try all of them to see who you mesh with. I live in SF and still try to make it to class in mountain view because I love it so much :) read more

I love it! I've taken classes with Marion, Matt, and Barbara and recommend them all. So definitely come back if you don't jive with your first teacher-they have some very good instructors here. Amazing core workouts and after sweating it out during each class I have a zen like moment as each class comes to a close. Taking yoga here has definitely been a stress reliever for me. I love that the teachers will go around and correct your form. Very clean and nice studio. They have water, tea, and candy in the lounge so you can hang out before/after practice. The best Yoga Belly teachers create a great atmosphere, greet you by name, and build a community in class. Not every single one, but the ones I go to.... and that's a big step up from the impersonal, packed, strictly-business classes that other yoga studios have to offer (no names, Palo Alto). Like the reviewer who beat me to this, William and Jeff are by far my favorite instructors out of the dozens and dozens of teachers I've seen in the Palo Alto/Mtn View area. Jeff is technically brilliant and spiritual, and I learn more about basic poses from him each time I go to class. William exudes energy and love for teaching, AND remembers names well. Way to go the extra mile! There aren't many reasons to stay in Mtn View over SF, but Yoga Belly is one thing I wish were actually up here. I miss you, YB! read more

Being in different yoga studios in different part of the world I can say that this studio is a bit overrated. It is small and lacks a changing place for the crowd that is flowing into the room. The crowd creates the problem of stinking smell, less instructor attention for each person. The restroom is outside the studio if you need to use it in the middle by somehow some reason the temperature difference between inside and outside is incredible, you are under risk of catching cold in a summer day. I took Power Yoga with Edna today. It was my first time taking a Power Yoga class and I can't seem to find the right word to express just how amazing it was. First of all, Edna is a beautiful and fantastic person, inside and out, and I just met her today! She makes the class so much fun (and has GREAT taste in music by the way) and really tries to help every person get the most out of their practice. She's encouraging and really inspired me to push myself. She really is there for YOU. This class is far from boring and keeps you wanting to come back for more. The Yoga Belly studio is GREAT! It's cozy and comfortable. Right when you walk in you can feel the vibe of the studio. Everyone knows each other by name and is smiling, laughing and having a great time. I am used to Bikram Yoga but I thought I would give this studio a chance and purchased a monthly pass. It is def. a spin on traditional yoga and they are funky! They have a disco ball in the middle of the studio and play decent tunes while the class is going on. I really liked instructor, MATT's friendliness and the way he taught the class. He told us to "relax and release" our tensions during his class last Saturday. The studio incorporates dance and other fitness elements into their classes. I don't know if it is right for me but I am happy I am giving it a month try (I have about two weeks left). The studio is located in downtown Mountain View and there is plenty of parking. read more

I went to my first class on Sunday, March 20th. It was their normal class (I think it's called Yoga Belly?) and Barbara was the instructor. I told her that I was new to Yoga and she was very, very helpful throughout, helping me achieve the right pose from time to time when I was slightly off. The only reason 4 stars instead of 5 would be because the room (as I'm sure many are, it's not unique to this studio) was a little cramped and it wasn't as hot as I've seen before, but I think the latter was on purpose. Highly recommend this place, even for newcomers, and I will absolutely be going back to more of Barbara's classes. read more

i've been going to yoga belly for the past month and have really been enjoying it. i go to the evening classes because i work next door, so it's super convenient to just hop over after work and get a good workout in. classes i've taken - Ball Hottiez: Hot Mat Workout With Weights with aaron (it's a new class) and Ballrz: Yoga With Weights with mark or jake. Both classes have been really fun and normally give me a pretty good core workout. I'm not super big on actual yoga so these new weighted classes are a great alternative. they're quick and you definitely get a good sweat on with the heated room. read more

Have tried a few of the actual yoga belly classes - great workout but gets really warm so have a towel for you, a towel for your mat and water. I always feel so great afterwards and want to come back - I have been doing yoga for a few years, the classes are packed so if you are new and need more direction for alignment I don't recommend you start here but maybe grow into here after a few more focused classes or beginners. read more

I really like this place. I started doing yoga back in NYC, but after moving back to the Bay Area, I struggled to find a place that I found palatable at a reasonable price. Then I found Yoga Belly. This beats all the others I've tried or passed by hands down. I'm not a big fan of heated power yoga but a friend asked me to go along for moral support. This studio is very pleasant, clean, low key, and everyone is friendly. It's a great place for yogis of all levels to get a workout. The only negative thing I encountered was a teacher trainee who was assisting Melissa's class. She was pretty clueless, she kept standing in between me (and others) and the instructor which totally blocked our view of what was going on. Luckily it was only one class. read more

I wanted to take a few classes before writing a review and after three classes I am hooked! Let me first say Yoga Belly is the first studio I have ever taken classes at. I honestly was nervous when I first started. I have only taken the Yoga Belly classes and they are great for all levels. Instructions are easy to follow and instructions are given on how to place your feet and hands. Both William and Barbara a great! I have had both of them take the time to correct my pose. I love the heat; just enough to make you sweat. The one advice is to get there early since classes do fill up. My next step is taking the Power Yoga classes! UPDATE: Recently got a call from someone at Yoga Belly who read my review. They clarified that my canceled class is now a credit on my account, so I can use it if I ever do go in. Good to know, although he said there was no record of my calls or emails (probably because this happened in December). Even still, I think its pretty ridiculous that my card got charged after I canceled the class. I don't live nearby, so not sure if I'll ever use my credit, maybe if I do, they'll get a full 5 stars. Yoga was not a part of my life before YogaBelly. I often looked at it as a necessary evil and went for occasional classes. Prior to YogaBelly I had tried other studios but quit after 3 weeks. My company gave me a corporate discount for joining YogaBelly as long as I had a minimum 6 month commitment. I must say that those 6 months changed the way I thought about Yoga. I now take out 20 minutes each morning for Yoga and I attribute that to YogaBelly. The instructors are very inspiring. I loved that they have a 7:15 am morning class which is super convenient and not crowded at all. My fav instructors include Thoa, Stacey, Amber and Lorenzo. I needed some good cross training to achieve my fitness goals, which was to lose 10-15 pounds of weight, and sadly Yoga did not help me directly in that regard. If I did not have these fitness goals, I would have continued with YogaBelly till I stopped living in Mountain View read more

Love this studio, the instructors are all very friendly and welcoming! It's a very social yoga studio, and they encourage you to speak to your neighbors all the time. I really enjoy the YBX and Yoga Belly classes. John and Andrew are my favorite instructors. One time Andrew ended our class while playing the guitar! This is a fun studio for people who want an intense workout. I have been practicing yoga on and off for years but not on a daily basis and I feel soooo out of shape when I go here. I can tell that a lot of the yogi's here practice every day. But, it's great motivation for me to see their strength and drive. I know that if I came here all the time I would be very toned. The teachers have a lot of energy and are friendly and like to have fun. They play some new age/yoga music but have also blasted Lady Gaga and even Tupac in a couple of the classes. This is also a good practice for Bikram yogis who want to switch it up since there is not a set sequence. I would NOT recommend it for beginners since there is not a lot of emphasis on form. I would have to be in child's pose for most of the class if I had never done yoga before and started here. If you prefer a traditional quiet, spiritual practice this might not be for you. However, if you want a serious workout and want to have fun doing so, come here and try it out. They have a great package for new students, too. read more

Fun, energetic and super friendly yoga studio, love it! Instructors really pay attention and care all students, and always willing to answer all kind of questions after classes. I heard about this studio from others and bought a Groupon deal last year, though my first visit almost freak me out. I've been doing gym yoga for years and don't feel like a beginner, so I went power yoga of Edna (she is my favorite instructor now, love her, but I was not ready last year at all) , it was way more intense than I expected that I was so exhausted and ended up on the floor sweating. I almost not going to come back but Edna and others encouraged me and gave advises, so later I went to Barbara and Will who teach wonderful yoga belly classes, those yoga belly sequences not only helped me lost inches of my waist, also tone my core muscles up fast. After Groupon I purchased the new student special which allow me to go all classes in different style with different instructors. Jeff and Matt's classes are popular and always hot, they teach both power yoga and Yoga Belly. When I got achy shoulder and back from work, I go Thoa or Adam's classes, they are great with aliment; When I need burning more calories, I go to Jimmy, Tim or Jennifer's classes for a solid workout. When I want challenge, I go to Edna and Courtney, they really know how to push to the limit. And morning classes from Will, Ann and Stacy, always energize me way more than coffee. There is a parking lot in front of the studio, parking is easy except lunch and dinner time, for 12:30 classes , I always get there around 12:20, student from previous class 11:15 am mostly leave around that time, same as 7 pm classes, students from previous classes will leave around 6:50 pm. if not, drive through the nearby neighborhood or street parking. the studio is heated but not as hot as Bikram, some people like it hot but I don't, so I always stay by the doors or glass walls, those are the cool spots. I used to do yoga once or twice a week, now I go Yoga Belly almost everyday, the only bad part is, I need a new wardrobe as I dropped 5% of my body fat. read more

I want to like this place but what disappointed me was it's just wayyyyyy too crowded. I don't know how to do a swan dive when the person next to me is only inches away. And when I stretch, I want to be able to stretch without putting my nose inches away from someone's armpit if not the rear end. I checked out this place after getting a Groupon for five classes. I've been to classes with several of their instructors at Lululemon in Palo Alto also (free yoga on sunday mornings). I've taken classes with the following instructors: - Matt Sharpe (He's probably my favorite. First, he's so darn attractive! Hott! Alas, he is married (or at least i assume that's what the ring means... lol). I like his classes since he's intense but not so intense as to make me feel incompetent and overwhelmed. I like the balance he brings, and he explains the poses really well which helps me get the most out of it and avoid hurting myself.) - Edna Barr (Edna's classes have a great sense of community. She really gets to know the students in her classes and many of them are regulars. She's pretty hardcore, which makes for a good workout, but she's also flexible and accommodating of what people in the class are looking for). - Barbara West (Ok, maybe she's my favorite, but I've only been to one of her classes. I like the perspective and energy she brings, but the class still felt relaxed even though it was hard work. Not entirely sure how to describe it, but she made everyone feel comfortable.) - Fiona So (Wow, her classes are hard! It's great, but sometimes was too much for me my arms aren't as strong as hers. You will sweat even if the room isn't heated. Her classes are definitely some of the most challenging) - William Cristobal (He plays fun music during class and has a sense of humor to keep things light-hearted even though you're working out. A good solid workout flow class) There aren't showers, and the bathrooms are outside around the corner (get a key inside the studio first). They have props you can use, and there's cold filtered water in the lobby. There are two changing rooms (well, curtains). Students generally seem to be in their 20s, but everyone is welcome. It makes for a nice view when people-watching... People are nice and friendly so it's easy to be new here, but there's definitely a solid community of people who know and care about each other.
