I recently began coming to Yoga District last month. The instructors are friendly, passionate about their practice, and offer helpful adjustments throughout the class. The studio offers multiple types of yoga classes to accommodate different styles and fitness levels. I usually arrive 15 minutes early so that I can select my desired space before the room gets too crowded. This is the only Yoga District location that sells food: energy bars ($3.50), and fresh juice ($10.00). If you are new to yoga, you can sign up for a new student pass, which is $20 and allows you to attend 2 classes that week. But, make sure you attend two classes within a week after you sign up because the classes do not rollover to the following week. Drop-in classes are $11 and renting a mat is $2. These are reasonable prices and cheaper than other studios in the district. To attend classes, you sign up online prior to the start of the class. Sometimes certain classes may be full, so I suggest signing up a day or two in advance to ensure that you are able to attend a particular class you like. The studio also allows people to walk-in, however it's best to sign up online in case the class is full, especially the evening classes. There are two studios in the building and no air-conditioning. Overall, I really like it here and feel relaxed/refreshed after leaving class. read more

This yoga studio does an amazing job of having a community feel in the middle of foggy bottom. I've been going here for about 3 years while I was a college student at GW. There is a wide variety of classes offered, and it's a great studio for people of all levels. The teachers and other staff are super personable and involved in your own individual goals. They are also super mindful of everyone's own limitations and previous injuries. There's a great deal for students and for people who can't afford the full price. It's very affordable, given that it's a non profit yoga studio. The tea house in the first floor of the building is sooooo cozy and calming. It's entirely vegan and offers some great stews sometimes, hot tea, juice, coconut water and other goodies. HIGHLY recommend this place. Only downside is that classes can get crowded and the studio can feel a little cramped, but that's to be expected in a downtown studio! read more

I love Yoga District! The I Street studio was around the corner from my job so it was easy for me to pop in for a midday or evening yoga class. This specific studio offers a variety of different classes throughout the day and the teachers all have their own way of running the class. I've taken most of my classes with Andrew and they've been great! He challenges you and pushes you without being overbearing while also making sure he respects you and your practice at the moment. Not too mention, he is hilarious which really livens the energy in the room. Overall, everyone at Yoga District is welcoming of others (no matter the level) so don't let fear stop you from trying it out. Plus, the first two classes are free and who doesn't like free? Added Bonus: you can practice at any Yoga District studio as opposed to being restricted to one location. Try it out! read more

Are you new to yoga and totally lost as to what it means to "flow into down dog?" Great! Are you a practiced veteran looking to deepen your practice? Equally fantastic! Are you a broke person living in DC who thought that you'd never be able to afford to go to yoga and also eat? This is your place- the reasonable prices and ENORMOUS class selection make it possible to actually practice yoga without going broke! The instructors are amazing. I was immediately impressed by Shahrooz, who walked our small class in the I Street location through the basics of every pose. He was patient and seemed to care deeply that our practice meant something that day. I suspect that's how he teaches every class and I will be attending as many of his as possible. Honestly, Yoga District embodies what it means to truly practice yoga. Everyone's journey is different but for me, the core tenets of a successful practice are inclusivity, instruction, guidance, and accessibility. We came from New York and felt welcomed. Shanise was calm, centered, and soothing. We enjoyed various Yoga positions, were allowed to borrow mats, and at the end had a nice meditation. I highly recommend Yoga District, and Shanise as a teacher. read more

4.5 stars Yep, Yoga District is still my favorite yoga chain in the District, partially because it's the most affordable, but also because they've got an awesome nonprofit mission. Their downtown I street studio is by far the closest to the metro of all of their locations (barely even have to cross the street if you pop out of the Farragut West 18th St exit). They definitely pulled out all the stops on getting this studio's community in the door! I just went to a lunchtime yoga class that was completely full (probably had something to do with their $30 for one month unlimited at this studio special). I definitely recognized some regulars from U and H St. However, one thing I really love about YD is that they're really friendly for beginners/ppl who haven't come in a while, so you shouldn't feel too intimidated in a multi-level class. This place has two studios, and it's a little odd to check in and borrow a mat from the first floor and haul yourself up one or two flights of stairs for a class. Changing rooms are definitely sparse at this location, but there's a bathroom on both studio floors. Each individual studio is a little bit smaller than the U Street or Dupont studios (20 people classes, max). Basics about YD across all six studios: Free towel usage, and free mat storage if you label and bind your mat. And of course, free water. CC minimum $15 A couple other notes about Yoga District in general: $10/3 classes in one week as a new student pass $90 10 class pass/3 months $77/month for unlimited yoga + activation fee $10 drop in class price $1 mat rental Another bonus! It's noon, I have my yoga mat at my desk, and an hour for lunch. Lets check out the area yoga studios, and see if I can take a quick class. Hmmmm a 50min "yogalates class?" Alright, it's only $10 bucks, lets give it a go. Why, hello abs, how nice of you to join the party. Feeling slightly sore the next day? Great, a workout! Fast forward a few days, weeks, or hours later. There is always a class offered at the most convenient times available whether you're a working professional like me, a stay at home mom, a retired joe blow, or anything in-between. I have to give credit where credit is due. Yoga District constantly has class offerings, the receptionist are so friendly, and I have at least found one great teacher-Christina. Also, the studio was cleaner on my third visit. If I can find at least one more passionate teacher, they remove the skeleton blocking the tiny curtain changing space, and if they got a bit better about the overcrowding at the front entrance, I would be inclined to up my rating again. P.S- They're opening a coffee and tea shop at this location this month! read more

It's tough giving a yoga studio a critical review, but I was not a fan of Yoga District. Location is nice. Easy access from Foggy Bottom metro, short walk. Their website is great. Easy enrollment and payment methods. I tried calling to ask a couple questions regarding my particular class. They did not have an employee to answer the phone but a recording will tell you this is on purpose. It helps keep prices down. And YD prices were the lowest for the places in the Foggy Bottom, Dupont and Georgetown area. The place was very granola as yoga studios will be. Cleanliness was adequate. A pleasant girl checked us in as me and my girlfriend were both walk-ins. We were able to pay at the counter. The yoga instructor showed up shortly after we checked in, and asked us if we signed up online. We said no. Then the instructor sternly told the girl working the counter that she shouldn't have added us without checking with her first. She had good reasoning, but my girlfriend felt a bit uncomfortable with the encounter because it involved the two of us. I didn't care personally. I was ready to work out. Admittingly, the situation could have been handled more professionally. The class was a level I-II. I found it really basic, and I am terrible at yoga. The instructor was friendly and clearly talented. I have been with better teachers though. She took breaks for her demonstrations which kind of broke the flow of the class. She tried popping into an inversion and after 3 takes, it wasn't happening. That's ok, because some days you don't have the stuff. But it was distracting with the time it took out of the class. Overall, low-key with competitive prices. The studio is basic but adequate. But even still, these studio left a little to be desired. I preferred both Epic Yoga and Georgetown Yoga over this studio. read more

I've tried many yoga studios in DC and all over the world and nothing really compares to Yoga District. The teachers are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and always make you feel right at home. I grew to love the studio and the practice of yoga so much that I ended up doing the yoga teacher training with them last year and it was incredible. YD offers the most diverse range of class types of anywhere in the city - there's a class for anyone. For a challenging, centering and peaceful practice, try Aqeel's Dharma flow, and be ready to sweat. For an inspirational, come-as-you-are type flow class, check out Julia's flow. If you're looking to build strength and push your practice with the guidance of an instructor that uses hands on assists, check out Marie Belle's Rocket class. On top of all this, it's the most affordable studio around, offers free water and a clean, nice, but no-frills environment. I can't recommend this studio enough. read more

Price was great. Did two classes. First was awesome. Instructor was great, and it was an awesome workout. However, the second was HORRIBLE. The instructor let way too many people in the room, and with a broken air conditioner on a hot DC day, it was just this side of Hell. The instructor just chatted, instead of demonstrating poses. I have been going to the I street location for about a year now. I have tried many yoga studios in the area and nothing compares to Yoga District. They incorporate different classes to support all levels of yoga and interpretations of practice. They take their teachers training very seriously and you can tell by the many well rounded teachers they have. I have never had a bad/mean teacher. I do favor some over others as I have made a yoga connection with them and their teaching style mirrors my lifestyle. Each teacher always makes you feel welcomed, which I have not felt at other studios. Here they truly believe you are family which is a nice feeling after a long day at the office. They offer challenging flow and power yoga classes that incorporates arm balances and inversions. Some teachers even include a few minutes of free flow that allows you to work on whatever pose you want to work on in your practice but they will also happily give you some guidance if you choose. Don't forget to check out the Yogalates class if you are looking for an amazing core workout. They also offer Rocket Flow classes! When I stop being scared of letting go to do legit inversions I'll check that one out. Both studios (2nd and top floor) are small without a waiting room so if you're early you'll have to wait by the narrow and dark stairwell and hallway. They have a tiny curtained section for changing in each studio and a bathroom on each floor if you need to change. You're better off coming in your workout clothes though. Cubbies are also available in each studio to store your personal stuff. :) The classes can get really crowded which I find distracting since you'll have to worry about not hitting your neighbor when you're going through your flows. Luckily I've only attended one class like that and all the other times were fine in terms of the number of students in the class. The best part? Drop in classes are only $11. read more

What a cute little studio tucked into the hustle and bustle of downtown DC. I was visiting for work, and being a yoga teacher myself and a studio manager at a donation based studio I knew this was going to be a great experience. I love the community feel of small studios, as well as the affordable prices. Yoga doesn't have to break the bank! They have a great deal for $12 for 2 classes for a new student which is great because it allows you to check out a variety of classes as every teacher is different. The schedule has a good variety which will let you pick the classes that suit you best. Seems like the studio has an emphasis on Sri Dharma Mitra, so if that's your thing this is the studio for you. I like the location and how the studios are on different levels of the house with a juice bar downstairs. If I was a DC resident I would consider coming to this studio- great opportunity for locals! read more

I love Yoga District! I started practicing in February of this year as an outlet and escape from work and life in general and have seen a significant improvement in my mood and demeanor after every class I take. I like Yoga District in particular because the staff are genuine and approachable, the classes are affordable, and there's so many locations, it's easy to find a class and a time that fits your schedule. As a beginner, I will be the first to say that it can be pretty intimidating stepping into a yoga class knowing little to nothing about the practice aside from "downward dog" and "namaste." But I never felt like an outsider here and immediately felt a sense of community that was hard to find at other studios. If you're new, this is a great place to start as their classes are super affordable and their staff is friendly and approachable! read more

Beware of the introductory month as the studio takes your credit card info and after 2 weeks of your intro month you are forced into a 2nd month at the $97 price and they will tell you they cannot stop it. Within the first 2 1/2 weeks of the intro month I let them know I could not continue with their studio therefore instructed them not to bill me any further. I was explicitly told in person by the "I Street" studio to do this in order to discontinue my subscription. Well apparently they didn't explain themselves properly and there must have been a "drop dead" date in there they should have informed me of as it was too late for me to stop them from charging me which has led me to disputing with my credit card company who has assured me Yoga District will not be paid. I have belonged to many Yoga studios over the years and NEVER experienced anything like this. They should be ashamed of themselves. So UN-YOGI like! They don't deserve the business and should be reported to the Better Business Bureau/Consumer Complaints. read more

Usually I frequent the 14th street studio since it's closer to my apartment, but this location is close to my work. I previously tried Epic Yoga since they had a beginners monthly special however I felt no connection with the teacher that frequently taught during lunch so I discontinued going there. Earlier this week I attended a Yoga/Pilates class with Andrew - WOW! I've been looking for a yoga teacher to inspire me like my previous teacher in NYC (I just moved here in December 15') and he is it! With an infectious spirit he makes you feel comfortable and pushes you to try things you might not normally try. At the end he left us with an uplifting message and had us share a couple things about ourselves and we went our separate ways feeling connected to others in our community. I can't wait to continue attending his classes! YD offers very affordable options and I hope to complete a teacher training here in the future :) read more

This studio is amazing and there are so many phenomenal classes and teachers. The community is strong and welcoming and reaches a wide community because of their reasonable prices. Beyond this they do amazing work in the community. The reason you won't be able to call someone at the studio is because YD and their sister Non-Profit, Yoga Activist, need to keep prices low and fund their amazing outreach programs throughout the District. It's physical yoga coupled with karma yoga and it doesn't get better than that! read more

I've been going to this studio for a year now, and I love it. Yes, it's small, and there aren't any fancy things at all. But that's what makes it so awesome - you feel like you're part of a community. The classes are so incredibly well priced, the space has always been clean, people are universally welcoming and friendly. Different teachers have very different teaching styles, so I recommend you try a few different classes/teachers. Andrew is my favorite teacher, because his classes are fast-paced and you feel like you get a real workout, plus he has such a lovely spirit. But I've actually really liked all of the classes I've taken at this location. That said, if you like things to be all fancy, and to have nice big changing rooms and scented candles and little eye pillows and maybe a brief massage, you will need to look elsewhere. (Those things aren't bad things, mind you, they just aren't yoga district!) read more

Absolutely perfect. Let me be clear that no yoga class ever is going to be perfect for everyone. That being said, this yoga company has so many things going for it that it pretty much covers all the bases. With 5 (6?) studios around DC you will always be close to one no matter what you're doing. Locations include Farragut North area, Glover Park, 14th Street and more, which just about covers it for me. The studios themselves are simple but, since they put them in different kinds of structures -- houses, store fronts, etc. -- have their own character to them. Love that. Most importantly, cost is low. Classes are just $12 each (less if you buy a pack) and intro deal is 2x1. They cut costs by getting forging the front desk, the perfect re-model, the products to buy. Yoga District is just yoga classes, plain and simple. I actually think I'll buy a pack here and that's saying something. read more

The teachers are just great- everyone is exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and encouraging. The classes are also always a perfect size with not too many people. I go here weekly with my best friend and we absolutely love our class with Maggie! This studio exudes zen and is totally judgment free. I have tried Shaw Yoga, Flow Yoga (P street and 14th locations), and none are as welcoming and zen as Yoga district. We have taken classes with other instructors at Yoga district who are also amazing. I do class pass, and Yoga district isn't on there, but I make an exception because it's just that good. I have really been enjoying my time at Yoga District off of I Street. It's about a 4 block walk from my office and offers lots of classes throughout the work day. I typically go in the afternoon for my lunch break or at the end of the work day. I find that all of the instructors are very professional and very skilled in their practice. Before class, most will have the class close their eyes and indicate if they have any physical concerns or concerns about assistance in class. The prices are competitive and they offer class packages, unlimited passes, accessibility prices for those that apply, and the option of getting classes through volunteerism. The space is a little small and sometimes gets very crowded. Overall though, the space is intimate, comfortable, and provides a much more charming atmosphere than a gym or industrial space. There are also lots of cubies to store personal belongings, water and cups on each floor, blocks, ropes, and cleaning supplies for mats. I will continue going and am considering buying a yearly pass. read more

Yoga District's wide menu of online classes (and a few outdoor classes) have been a true god send to my mental and physical health in COVID lockdown times. The teachers are great--even via zoom video--and somehow manage to create a sense of community. I've been taking classes at Yoga District for a just under a year and I really like it. A few pointers: - Studio locations: I've been to the I St, H St, Dupont and Bloomingdale locations. The first three are all in old houses and cute, but the studios are small, oddly shaped, and can get really hot, especially in the summer. The Bloomingdale location, is actually shaped like a yoga studio, and it's on the ground level. There's tons of space, and it actually seems like the other students are more friendly, as well. -Pricing: I think Yoga District's pricing is really reasonable. I purchase the 10 class pass and generally have no problems using it up. They're really helpful about helping you transfer over unused classes, too, and understanding if you cancel and want to get that credit back. The pricing is especially reasonable when compared to other yoga studios in the district. They do want to make sure it's accessible. -Instructors: The instructors are great. They're all pretty young and very nice and helpful. The ones I've been to the most are Fiona, Cara G, and Kate A, and they're all great, but even the others I've been to here and there, they're great and down to earth. I've only had one kind of hippy-like instructor, but some people like that, so really there's someone for everyone. - Signing up: I think the online system is great, but it can get really packed. They say they save 2 spots for walk-ins, and they generally do a great job of fitting people in even above that, but it can get very crowded. I've noticed over the last year that the after work classes have gotten really popular, to the point where if you want to reserve, you need to sign up at least 3 or 4 days in advance. The good thing is you can always sign up and then cancel up to 2 hours in advance if you change your mind. If you're willing to wait a little longer, the later classes seem to be less full. When I go to 8:00 classes they always seem to have plenty of room for you, which also means the instructors can be more hands-on. Overall, I really like Yoga District a lot, and it's all but replaced my regular gym routine. Not only is it great exercise, it's also a great stress-relief and way to remind yourself to relax after a hard day of work. read more

Overall if you're looking for affordable classes with convenient locations and incredible variety of styles/times for any level/schedule, Yoga District is for you. Personally I've loved taking Elissa's classes. I get bored when it's the same material over and over again, so Elissa is a breath of fresh air when getting back into yoga more fully. She listens to the class and comes up with patterns on the spot that matches where the class is at (high energy, slower healing, playful inversions, you name it). She integrates several yoga styles/forms into her classes, so no two classes are exactly alike. Her pacing is perfect to get both the meditation and exercise elements of yoga in, with the flexibility for every yogi to have the experience they want. Also all the Yoga District employees are incredible and very understanding. I've had different extenuating circumstances happen while I've been practicing with them, and the staff have been more than willing to work out arrangements with my class passes so I could use them up. I used to practice yoga 3-4 a week, usually for free. After moving to D.C. it took me about a year to get back into my practice because of the sticker shock of what classes cost at most studios. I finally bought a ten pack of classes for YogaDistrict and am so glad that I did! I love the teachers and unpretentious atmosphere. I've tried out several of the studios but go to classes at I Street most often because of proximity to my office. I travel a lot for work and have been surprised by how thoughtful and encouraging people have been, the teachers always seem to notice when I'm gone and make a point to welcome me back when I return. I was super excited about this location, but they overpack the classes with 22 people in a tiny space. So you hope you don't end up next to the down staircase or the slanted low ceiling where you can't kick up. Or worse someone's funky feet 5 inches away from your face when you're in chaturanga. There's no ventilation and they can't open the window because it would be too loud, so walking in immediately after a class you can expect a hot funky studio. I took classes with 2 teachers and I think they were new so it wasn't as challenging for me. read more

Had my first Flow class with Jennifer A. on Christmas Eve in Glover Park. This was one of the few classes on Sunday evening before Christmas Day. I am familiar with yoga but not flow practices. Jennifer was a great mentor. She also started and ended the class with a short meditation. A perfect experience for the holidays and I look forward to more yoga with this group. read more

I almost didn't want to write this, as I want to keep it a secret, but Yoga District is just so wonderful I had to. Yoga District I Street is truly a place of zen, compassion and individual growth in a community setting. I've never had an instructor who is hostile or pushy (which is all too common in the yoga world branded by lululemon), and they are all knowledgable. The instructors and students are diverse, and the studio feels like a warm little den. I'm an experienced yogi, and I'm still challenged every class (but am simultaneously encouraged to listen to and be kind to my body). A special shout out to Emily, Kat and Alexandra V! read more

I love this place! I was staying downtown for work for a few weeks and loved being able to go to early morning classes on weekdays as well as classes on the weekends. While I agree with some of the complaints about this studio being cramped, I feel that YD does an awesome job of facilitating a community atmosphere. I almost always feel connected not only to the teacher, but to the other students. Of the 6-7 teachers I've taken classes from, most seem very invested in teaching not only the poses as a form of exercise, but the philosophy of yoga. They are also very willing to work with you if you have special circumstances, or let you volunteer for free yoga! In general, I think the studio's layout is funky and eclectic--I like that it's an old rowhouse. I can honestly say that YD has enriched my life, and am devastated to be moving away from DC; I don't foresee finding another community of such dedicated, caring, and flexible (ha!) yogis. read more

Good yoga studios are hard to find....and even though I moved farther away from the DC, I can't give up this yoga studio. The teachers are fantastic! The classes offer alternatives for varying skill levels and I always feel welcomed. I wish I could take more classes, but I would need a studio closer to home.
