I've had multiple disappointing experiences with this studio, and I feel it's important to share for the sake of transparency and accountability. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My main concern is the ongoing lack of clear communication -- especially around class pricing and policies -- which has caused confusion and, frankly, frustration.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] First, the "Yoga in the Park" class. Nowhere on the website, in emails, or on social media does it clearly state that this is a paid class. It's extremely misleading, especially since other paid classes do list their prices. When I attended, the instructor didn't know the cost, and I was told I had to register on the spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I used a free class credit from my account, only to be contacted later with a rude message claiming I needed to pay anyway.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So my credit was used and I was expected to pay additional money? This left a bad taste in my mouth and felt very unprofessional. Second, I previously attended a "community" Sunday class in the winter. While I understand that these classes are led by student instructors, this one felt more like a private event. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The class was filled with the instructor's coworkers and friends, and the environment wasn't welcoming to newcomers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After the class, I chose not to join a group photo with everyone, and left quietly with my own mat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Later, I received a call from the front desk accusing me of stealing someone's mat. I explained that I never took my hands off my own. Instead of an apology, I was dismissed and spoken to rudely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After experiencing this pattern -- unclear policies, untrained staff, and poor communication -- I no longer feel that this studio is inclusive or community-oriented. I gave it more than one chance, but each time I felt like an outsider and was treated without respect. This will always be a very special place to me. Before moving to Chicago in the middle of the pandemic, I had never set foot in a yoga studio. The only yoga that my wife and I had EVER done was online via YouTube videos in our tiny NYC studio apartment when everything shut down, which was mainly because we didn't have many other options. But we ended up loving it! Fast forward to moving to Chicago and looking for a holistic place to practice (the core power type of "sports" yoga didn't appeal to us), and we realized that the Yoga Now studio was just a short walk away. We took our first class and were greeted warmly by the front desk, led in a beautiful class by Maureen (who made us feel like we had been there a hundred times), and were welcomed back with smiles. I loved it so much that I took a part time job there, which is when I really got to know a lot of the amazing humans that make up the incredible community. I grew up in the south playing baseball, basketball, football & golf...yoga was never something I would have considered. I was not used to yoga studios by any means...but this place welcomed me as I was, where I was & encouraged my growth, physically & spiritually. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to practice with Joanne, Tomoko, Corinne, Taylor, Moe, Adrian & Tiffany, who all taught me so much. Amy has built a unique, beautiful community, filled with people who genuinely want to make this world a better place. Came here for the community yoga class on Sundays. You have to ring the bell from the street since Yoga Now is on the second floor. The interior is very cozy - there's cubbies for your things and also storage for some mats. They also provide mat rentals for $2 and have blocks, pillows, etc for free use if they are used in a class. The staff here is so nice - they are very kind and always seem very relaxed. The interior is kept a little warm which will get you to sweat, but might be a little too warm if you have long tights on. They have one large room for lessons, that has pretty good natural lighting. However it is on LaSalle so with the windows open, you hear all the street sounds including sirens etc which was pretty distracting. Sign in was fast and painless, and they try to take as many people as possible for the Sunday class. The teacher was very engaged and would go through both sides of the floor to make sure everyone could see and hear. Overall, had a great experience and would definitely come back for a normal class. read more

Kristin is the best yoga teacher I've ever had. She uses strengths-based teaching to prevent you from second-guessing yourself and giving yourself an out. Her assists are also phenomenal, helping you painlessly get into poses that you thought you weren't ready for. She not only knows yoga, but also anatomy, so you can stay safe and make incredible progress. I also love the other non-Ashtanga offerings here, from Restorative to Vinyasa. Yoga Now is such a gem, focusing on yoga as a holistic practice rather than just another fitness class. I've gotten so much stronger here even though Yoga Now doesn't market itself as a "fitness" institution. read more

The studio was designed and hand made with natural materials by Amy Beth. When you go to Yoga Now, you will not only get a great workout, increase flexibility or do gentle stretching (depending on what kind of class you want), you will be warmly welcomed and you will immediately be part of a fun and supportive community. And, you will learn and be challenged as much as you desire. Amy Beth is highly educated and had a successful business career; she can certainly make a lot more money doing other things. Since I found this place a few weeks ago, it has become a staple in my routine and an absolute sanctuary for my mind, body, & spirit! The setting is extremely down to earth, everyone is so kind, and I find it easy to slow down and calm my mind here - which is usually a tall order. I've been to a variety of classes with many different instructors so far and everyone has been enjoyable to interact with in their own unique way. I'll try not to let the fact that this place reeeeeeked like smelly dirty socks influence my review. First, you have to get buzzed in to get into the building, which can be kind of annoying when it's freezing outside. Second, the studio itself was small and the changing area by the cubbie holes was cramped and again totally stinky. Now for the class--take it from me and don't go their monthly Friday event which includes not a lot of actual yoga but a lot of group bonding activities with your neighbor (in my case, sweaty guy) like giving each other back massages and interlocking your elbows while you are sitting on the floor back to back and then trying to get up off the floor at the same time. I only wish I was kidding. I thought yoga was supposed to be a solitary activity. Wait, there's more...then there was the group activity of passing people around on other people's hands (kind of like in a mosh pit). I kid you not. I did not pay $15 to be passed around like a piece of meat and have total strangers touch my rear. Wisely, I refused to participate in this activity. If you do choose to go to this studio, I hope the regular classes are better. I did not like the instructors here because they were just way too artsy fartsy and into all that hokus pocus spiritual voodoo crap about cleansing my aura. I may be new to yoga, but just give me the stretching and some meditation, and then leave me the heck alone. read more

I got a YouSwoop for a massage here, and will go back for another one as well. The people here are nice and friendly. It's your typical hardcore Yogi place, with people talking about how vegetarianism is the only healthy diet (it's not, sorry) and expensive looking water "ionizers" (again, quackery). After my massage, I was offered complimentary use of the shower, sauna and steam room, which is a nice touch. The massage oil she used on me, however, was so pleasant and light, I opted to have it sit on my skin awhile and not wash it off. This place reminded me of India . . . a LOT. Which is kind of cool, since it's in the middle of the city, in a nondescript office building. What was not cool, is it does not seem to be air conditioned - really!? read more

And, actually made me feel better about my problem areas with her knowledge. The room was very warm. So was the bed. The guitar strumming was a lovely melody. Recently joined Yoga now and I am really happy and pleased that I did. The studio is always clean , gives you an ambiance of tranquility and peace. I always feel so much better and rejuvenated after a yoga session . I purchased a $39 groupon for a Swedish massage and scheduled my appointment on a Saturday at 5:30pm. My massage therapist was Meghan. I did not have high expectations, this being a groupon deal and knowing that some business offer sub par service in these cases. However, and to my suprise, I managed to received the worst massage in living memory... The theparist lacked skill and training - she would just lay her hands, barely putting any pressure on me (maybe she thought this was a Reiki session, also offered in this center). Furthermore, evidently fatigued, she sat down for most of my massage, which is something I have never seen any massage therapist do. It is obvious that you cannot put the same pressure and perform the same massage if you are sitting down compared to standing up. To top this off, she yawned while performing the massage multiple times times. The entire experience so disappointing that I left without leaving a tip for the therapist - again, that was a first for me. I emailed yoga now to provide some feedback and they were responsive and understanding and offered me a free massage with a different therapist. However, at this point I do not feel like going back - bad memories! I do hope this was a single incident and that the level of professionalism of their therapists is more than what I received. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a Swedish massage and scheduled my appointment on a Sunday with Meghan. I didn't have any expectations, because using a Groupon with this kind of services can be risky. I have several massages in my life, some were really good, some were just ok and it is quite easy to feel how committed/professional is the masseuse just by her/his touch. In this case, I have no doubt that this was the worst massage I have ever had in my whole life. The therapist was just putting static pressures in some random spots, in between my ribs, without working the muscle masses thoroughly. The pressure was weak and the whole experience felt a little weird. To top this off, the therapist chose as the background music a CD with Japanese pop music, which is a tackier version of Italian pop music from the '90s (here a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVAZEVCxdhc). I'm not here to criticize Japanese music, of course, but this type of music is clearly not the best for a massage. This place might be a good place for yoga class. This is a sweet gem. My fiancé purchased 5 massages here for me and my first visit I talked about it for weeks. Being pregnant can wear you down so the Maternity Massage was everything I needed. The ambiance of the space is even therapeutic and relaxing. It's not one of those fancy downtown joints, it's a cozy, relaxing, we care about you place. I started coming here because the location was convenient for me. For about 6 months I was going to a regular class on the same two days every week with one instructor. She didn't directly talk to me much at first, but when she finally did, she said that I should be coming to Mysore practice in the early morning, because at that moment I was only a "member of the spandex crowd." Having taken classes with a variety of teachers at Yoga Now I can say that I have enhanced my practice with each one. Recently I took "Mindful Vinyasa" with Rich Logan for the first time and he (excellently) focused on alignment, and offered unique techniques for improving the quality of the breath. He also emphasized an awareness of the tension we hold, not only in our muscles but even in our organs. (I never gave much thought to my kidneys before but did after his class). Highly recommend him for those who want both a therapeutic and strengthening class. I continue to love my classes with Jen Enders. She's the sweetest tough cookie around! This review is based on massages I received here. I have not attended any yoga classes at Yoga Now. I bought a groupon for three massages at Yoga Now and was excited to book them right away. You can book appointments online, and that's something I found to be very convenient. First, I need to comment on the interior of Yoga Now. It is on the second floor of a building on the Near North Side of Chicago. As soon as you enter, you are transported into another Yogi world! I do not intend to make it seem kitsch, but it is decorated à la Rainforest Café style (with class). Bamboo walls, a HEATED carved wooden bench, two big yoga rooms, saunas, showers, and a couple massage rooms in the back. It was like you were walking through a tent haven in the jungle. I haven't been here for yoga, but it looks like it would be a fun experience. I booked all three massages with Taryn. I had two swedish massages and upgraded one to a deep tissue massage for an extra $15. I found Taryn to be a great massage therapist and she offered some great advice for the issues I struggle with regarding my upper back pain. I don't recommend coming here for a massage unless you have a deal, via Groupon or something else. Yoga Now is a really cool yoga studio that also does massages on the side. It is not a spa, and massages are not at the core of what they offer. However, the regular prices for massages here are what you'd find at a bigger spa. Without the "full spa experience", I just don't think it is worth paying full price here. read more

Came here because I was in desperate need of a massage. Found a Groupon and checked out the reviews on Yelp (of course) and decided Yoga Now was where I was going. Made my appointment the day before, it's all done online and is super easy. The minute I walked into the space I was greeted by the nicest man who offered me water or green tea and gave me a tour of the space. They have this amazing heated rock bench that is in the lobby, I kinda want one for my house. My appointment was with Chris. Before we started he asked me if there were any special areas he needed to work on, um yes. I knew I wasn't going in for a relaxing one hour massage, my back needed some serious work. I walked in there in pain, and left feeling 100 times better. This will be my go-to place for massages for sure! read more

Have never taken a yoga class here but did get a massage recently. People working could not have been nicer but the massage was semi ridiculous. The woman spent too much time rubbing my face and playing with my eyebrows... At one point I almost burst out laughing. It was supposed to be a deep tissue swedish massage and I'd say she barely scraped the surface. Her breathing was heavy, the lights were all on - needless to say it was difficult to relax. From what I've read the yoga seems pretty decent. I'd recommend trying a massage some where else. read more

I kind of hate this place. I got a groupon here for a month of yoga, and I've left seriously annoyed every time I've gone. I've never had that experience before anywhere, and I've tried classes at a dozen places around the City over the past few years. First, you walk in off the elevator and are smacked in the face with about 30 degrees of heat. It's stuffy and extremely hot at all times, and it's not billed as "hot yoga". It's just hot and uncomfortable. It's also extremely extremely crowded at all times, and that doesn't help. Second, the way the place is laid out is beyond stupid. This doesn't sound like a huge deal, but because it's so crowded, like 30 people have to squeeze into this little closet to store their shoes and coats, and there's just no place to line up. That kind of crowding is the last thing you want after a yoga class. It sounds like a little deal, but for some reason it's left me seriously annoyed every time. Third, I've had 3 different instructors, and for some reason each of them has been weirdly confrontational. There's just a strange attitude there that I've never seen anywhere else, and it puts me off too. Fourth, and grossest, there's no mechanism for cleaning the shared mats. You get EXTREMELY sweaty because of how hot and crowded it is, and then you just roll your mat back up and put it on the shelf for the next class to use. EEeeeeew. The mat I used yesterday smelled like the zoo. I'm not kidding. I'm not easily grossed out, but it wore on me. This is my least-favorite yoga place in the City, and i definitely won't go back after my unlimited month is up. read more

Just moved back to the Chicago area and was looking for a place to continue my yoga practice. I decided to try a Vinyasa 1-2 class, as that is the practice that I am familiar with. The class size was much smaller than I was anticipating (it was a daytime class) and the instructor that day for some reason called out direction and correction by name, instead of walking around to correct us. It made me kind of uncomfortable, since I felt like she was saying my name every 2 minutes, and detracted from my yoga experience. I have been practicing twice a week for the past 8 months or so (like the reviewer below) and I felt the same way - like I was too new to be there or something. That being said, during our shavashana we had amazing flat pillows for our backs (in goddess pose) and lavender eye pillows. One of the best shavashanas I have ever had. Unfortunately, they offered no new student discounts, unless you wanted to buy a package, which I decided not to do. They do seem to have a good offering of classes (times, class types) so I would consider maybe going back to try something different but overall the studio was a little too yogi-snob for me. read more

This review is only for their massages - and specifically, only their massages with Cindy - as I haven't had a massage with any other therapist, nor have I tried their yoga classes. Not that I wouldn't; they're just not located very close to where I live or work. However, I'm willing to go out of my way for a massage with Cindy. Best. Massage. Ever. She really listens to you and what your needs are. Both my husband and I prefer deep-tissue massages. My husband lifts weights and has a lot of muscle mass in his shoulders and back. When I first saw Cindy, I thought "How is this tiny woman going to give us the kind of massage we prefer?" Well! First impressions be darned, she is very strong and perfectly capable of providing great deep-tissue work. She also uses relaxation and energy flow techniques, so I walked out of there feeling like I was on a cloud. That reminds me, I should book an appointment with Cindy in the new year..... read more

This was my first visit to Yoga Now and after almost being run down by a fur-clad, tight-faced, sunglass-sporting (because the overcast sky and snowing weather does a number on the eyes, you see) driver of a lux SUV, I really needed a yoga class. I took the ashtanga class with Rachel. It was excellent. The temperature in the space was consistent, the environment was soothing and quiet and Rachel was a great teacher. She adjusted her pace and difficulty to the level of the class, made some excellent adjustments to my poses and also recognized when to deepen my stretches. Needless to say, I was impressed and I left much more relaxed than when I arrived. Although I will say that I don't usually attend yoga classes immediately following near-death experiences, so I left feeling normal. One can only imagine if I arrived with all of my faculties about me. I'm pretty sure the staff felt bad for me, so they were nice enough to give me a tour. They offer cooking clinics, massage therapy and retreats. More of a full wellness stop than just simply a yoga studio. I can't wait to go back. Oh, yeah... the couch in the lobby was heated, so my butt was happy. read more

Treated myself to my first-ever massage after finals (thank you Groupon!). I had Susanna, really nice and warm spirited. I thought I had requested a male, but it's alright, she was good to me. It was a swedish massage, which is an all over massage. It took her awhile to come back once she left the room so I could derobe. I was laying under the sheet naked thinking "Um, hello? Anybody there?" So....that was a little strange. But once she came in and turned on some relaxing music it was a really great experience, I think now that I know what to expect I'll relax more, I felt like I was trying to move too much. Once I FINALLY was able to relax she told me my session was up...poo. The strangest part of the spa experience was afterwards, they have a steam room- which is basically like the hottest shower ever. There was a guy in there, I asked if I should wait til he is out but a voice inside said "No, no come on in!" Susanna gave me the go ahead so, timidly I clutched my bathrobe around me and walked into the steamy closet sized space. Low and behold there was a guy sitting in the back with just a towel over him and his bathrobe tossed to the side...awkward.....I can't tell you how hard it is to relax when there's a 30 something year old basically naked dude trying to hit on you in this tiny, hot as hell room. All in all, the service itself was amazing. I felt so refreshed and now, one day later, I'm a little sore but I guess that's just the way it goes. The space is kind of awkwardly set up and the people that go there, though nice, are a little awkward too. If I go back I'll make sure to find the sauna or steam room empty so I can be cool and relaxed instead of bothered and hot. (Get it?) read more

During my summer in Chicago, I visited Yoga Now about 7 times over the course of about a month. I usually went about once or twice a week. The place is conveniently located, the people and atmosphere are nice, and is definitely something I miss once I left Chicago. I am fairly new to yoga, and Yoga Now was the first yoga studio I went to regularly. My first class was actually Mindful Vinyasa taught by Rich on Tuesday. It was very challenging for me as a beginner, but Rich was very helpful and kept the atmosphere light and relaxed with his humor. I then regularly visited, but to the Yoga Basics and Restorative Yoga instead. Yoga Basics on Monday and Wednesday is a very good class for beginners. Do-able while challenging. I particular favor the Monday class taught by Tina (?). She is a great instructor and is very helpful. Restorative Yoga is my favorite. Offered on Sunday, it is a great way to start the week (or to cleanse the body at the end of the week, depends on how you look at it : ). It is well paced for beginners and is very relaxing. Jennifer does a fantastic job in introducing the movements and feeling with her vivid language and imagery. I particular like how it helps reduce the tention in my neck and shoulders. It is not a lot of work, I rarely sweat in it, but I always leave feeling no tention in my body. I have only been to the Gold Coast location. It is very convenient (steps away from Brown line Chicago stop) for me. I had a groupon (10 classes for a ridiculously cheap price), but if I am in Chicago, I will definitely purchase a pass for more classes at Yoga Now. I miss it a lot a lot. It helped making my summer in Chicago a great one, and I only hope there is a similar studio near where I am now. Definitely recommended. Will be my honor to go back. read more

It was an interesting experience. As soon as you walk in, you can already tell that there's nothing fancy going on, just a very traditional type of studio. That day I picked something I've never done before, Jivamukti yoga. The class size was pretty small, there were only 5 of us there, which was good for a one on one type of instruction. The room is not heated but it was still probably one of the hardest yoga classes I've been to; complicated inversions that lasted something like 50 breaths! I remember really liking the fact that it was definitely a new territory to explore but I gotta say, my back hurt for the rest of the week :(. I was not impressed with the front desk person, she wasn't very friendly to me (a new costumer) but very friendly to a "regular." The instructor was great though. They have some many classes to choose from, I will definitely be willing to try some of them soon. read more
