This became my home studio while living in York for the summer. It's quite small and has a regular, dedicated clientele. I liked the instructors and the feel of the place. I liked the people who attended classes there. And it was good yoga--there was attention to breathing and alignment and there were some hard workout classes too. I'm was a 60-something aspiring athlete, working to get-back-in-the-game. My wife brought me to my first class at YOY. The atmosphere, instruction style and fellow participants have been fantastic. I started taking classes as a complete novice. I felt accepted and engaged while at the same time, I was happily "in the background" at my pace. The instruction style was completely inclusive, tailored to one's level and gently encouraging... when you want to do "a little bit more". I've made tremendous gains in the past months. My strength, balance and flexibility have never at this level simultaneously. I've had no pain or injuries. People tell me I'm more calm and alert (and I no longer need high blood pressure meds!). There's a wonderful variety of instructors and class types & levels. They're experts and have a dedication to yoga that's infectious. I always look forward to class. YOY has been an unexpected community of kind, talented and thoughtful people, I'm so very happy to practice yoga with them. read more

I recently started taking beginner Yoga classes at Yoga on York called "Yoga Foundations" classes. So far it's been very nice. They make sure to tell you to breathe, to take things only as far as you can, being careful to not go too far. They've created a very relaxing, peaceful, and calming environment. I was in town for a wedding weekend and found Yoga on York online. I took a morning Level 2 class with Rae. After years of NYC yoga, being in such a small and intimate studio was so refreshing, there was a comforting community feel to the class and Rae seemed to know everyone by name - down to their strengths and weaknesses. The pace of the class was a bit slower than flow, there was a lot of attention paid to alignment. At first I wasn't sure if it would be challenging enough, but the extra time we took to speak about the poses was so helpful - what an attentive instructor. I stayed after class and asked Rae about an adjustment she gave me. Being a fairly avid yoga goer, I have never had such a detailed explanation and helpful adjustment in all my classes - Rae was very patient and helpful. I really enjoyed my drop-in class and would definitely go back if I find myself in the area. read more

My favorite yoga spot. All the classes on every level are wonderful and restorative. I started going there for prenatal yoga and 5 years later still try to go at least once a week. What I really appreciate about this studio is that it's very athletic and non-intimidating. All the instructors have a warmth and friendliness that makes you feel challenged, safe, and welcome. No matter what level or style you choose, there is a class for you at Yoga on York. I took my first class at Yoga on York and loved it! The studio is warm and welcoming and our teacher, Rae Lynn, made me feel completely at ease. The level 3 class I attended was both athletically challenging and mentally calming. I love that Rae Lynn took the time before class to explain to us what we would be focusing on during the class (shoulders/chest) and how we would benefit from it. I can't say enough good things about Dave and YoY! I used to have an unlimited membership, so I could drop in any time. And recurring payments made it easy. This yoga studio is so welcoming to everyone of all abilities. The teachers are so nice and accommodating. I never felt awkward or judged even as a beginner. In the summer they do hiking yoga to the top of a mountain, and beach yoga on alternate Saturday mornings. read more

I've been part of Yoga on York since 2005. I started as a a very busy Mom of 2 kids who could find 2 hours a week for some self-care. In those days, YoY was the only yoga studio in town, but it was all we needed, the quality was there. (I say this as someone who lived and practiced yoga in multiple cities and on 2 continents.) Yoga on York has provided teacher training since 2010 and I am one its graduates and have been an instructor at the studio ever since. The owners of at least two other studios in town are also YoY graduates. Even though the space is humble, the quality and sense of community is outstanding. This is a place where we not only want to know your name, but we want to know who you are and what you need from your yoga experience. We take your health and well being seriously, but we approach everything else with a sense of humor. We don't care how you look, what you wear or how fancy the pose is. We care that you feel comfortable, that you get a high quality experience and leave feeling better than when you walked in. Come try a class. I recently did a drop in class hoping to improve my flexibility as well as my mindfulness. The studio itself is quite small; which appears to be an inviting space but ends up being quite cramped. After signing the waiver, you can borrow a communal yoga mat free of charge (which I thought was a plus). However, it became quite clear after unrolling the mat that there is no sanitation. It smelled terrible. The class itself was incredibly misguided, as we were expected to start on our backs and move directly into core work. Take this as a warning: though it was advertised as a Vinyasa Flow, there were few yoga movements (or flows). It ended up being a lot of meditation and breathing. The instructor was rather unprofessional - she often included her own quips and did not teach any new movements. The music selection was the best part of the class (Glass Animals FTW). After 10 long minutes of smelly shavasana; I reflected further and would recommend taking your dollars elsewhere. This class is geared towards an older crowd that focuses more on moving one's hips than anything else. read more
