I've always smirked at all the spiritual, new age craze, but after a few years of not treating my body right and not being too happy with whom I had become I decided to see what all the shebang was about.
I had originally planned on doing yoga at a regular gym (silly me) and as I was buying my yoga mat at Kimaya at the Sunset mall (don't worry, I'll review that fine establishment soon) Jaya, the owner, asked me where I did Yoga. When I told her I was shopping around she told me about June Blank, her 85 year old yoga instructor at the YRF. Since I had nothing to lose, I chose to listen and gave it a shot.
The YRF is very simple, nothing fancy, as it should be. June welcomes everyone in with a big smile and makes an effort to get to know everyone by their name even on their first class.
Let me tell you, my fellow Yelpers, June kicked my butt (in the best way possible) I left that place in pain and exhausted after my first session, but experiencing pure bliss and serenity; I could even feel the soothing effects of my yoga session all the way through my next lesson! I was in a better mood, I had amazing posture, I was even eating healthier!
June (and her lovely helpers) have made me a much more spiritual person, through Yoga I have grown in unimaginable ways and I'm sure this is just the beginning.
The YRF is actually located in 5691 sw 102nd St, and June's classes are on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30-10PM and Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:30AM-1PM. Prices are a steal, it's only $12 a session and they have a few monthly package deals too.
