Cathy and her outdoor yoga classes on the beach were the highlight of our recent trip to San Diego.

I also love the little altar that they have set up on the steps in between the instructor and the deck where the students are practicing. They always have it decorated with seasonal items and it's so pretty. I really enjoy the instructors. Today was Asia and she always teaches such an engaging flow. I also enjoy the classes with the live music. What I'm not a big fan of is the wellness area they have set up behind the studio in the grassy area adjacent to the yoga deck. They do cold plunge out there during the class and to be honest, I find it distracting. During today's class there was someone in the cold plunge in the beginning, fortunately that person was very quiet, but I was aware that they were back there. There have been other times when I was there when there were people in the cold plunge and they were laughing and talking while the class was going on. I get it that the studio is in the heart of Bird Rock that there is other noise from the street, from the taco shop next-door, etc. But to have the distraction in the space you are practicing in is not ideal. When I checked in at the front, the girl who had me sign the waiver asked me if I was aware that they had a wellness area behind the studio. I told her yes, and that I was not a big fan of it. She told me that they are brainstorming ways to separate that area from the front of the studio more efficiently. Hopefully they come up with some solutions!

It was my first time at the studio and I decided to go last minute with a friend. I did not have my mat with me. They did not charge me to use theirs since this was my first time. I really appreciated that detail. The space is gorgeous, beautiful studio. I'm not sure, though that the atmosphere is ideal for a Yin class with soundbath. The class that I went to was at 7 PM and the restaurant next-door was super loud and busy with crashing noises. Also in the cold plunge right behind the studio there were several people there, and it was extremely loud and kind of disruptive for the Yin practice. When you're supposed to be holding a pose for five minutes and remaining still it's hard to do so when there's loud noises around you, especially if you're easily distracted like I am. other than that everything is perfect here. I love the scents that they use and the sounds that they use very relaxing when it was quiet there were a couple times where I almost fell asleep in a pose. I also love when the seagulls fly overhead and squawk, reminding you that you're outdoors. It does get a little cold at night. It was nice to have the blanket they provide for shavasana.

Didn't feel like much Pilates besides the side laying series, felt more like a HIIT boot camp. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it gets really packed inside. I think that might also explain why instructors aren't hands on with modifications -- it's just too crowded to fit in between people. The person to my left got their nasty a$$ foot sweat on me when we were all doing supine twist and did not give a damn. Music was obnoxiously loud, my ears were ringing after class. Instructor was sweet but noticed there weren't many modifications, lol the "NO ONE DROPS!!" cues don't really help someone doing a modified plank! Doesn't compare at all to Flexcore down the street. The eucalyptus towel was the saving grace, but personally, I wouldn't come back here again. At Flexcore, they give out towels while you're stretching so you don't have to swim in a crowd of people after.

The studio itself is super clean and aesthetic, and I loved wrapping up with a cool eucalyptus towel afterward. What a treat! The studio is in a wonderful location in Bird Rock - surrounded by different coffee shops and food spots, plus it's walking distance to Windansea Beach. It's a bit far from me, but I'd totally make my way back (:

I came here at 6:45am and was able to find parking literally right at the cove, so come early, its worth it. Lots of wildlife hanging out there. I saw a bunch of sea lions sleeping, tons of cormorants and lots of badass pelicans flying and scooping down for food. By 7am, I was in the water and there were already plenty of people here. I tried out my wetsuit with all my gear and everything worked well. I wasn't too hot in my 4/3 wetsuits. Visibility was crap today and couldn't see much. I'll have to come back again to see if visibility improves. I got out in 30 minutes, no point wasting time with cloudiness. I used the local showers to get the sand and saltwater off myself and gear. Public bathrooms also available. After getting out, I walked around a bit and it was a lovely day. Beautiful area, no wonder everyone likes coming here. I'll be back!

They have never been to La Jolla so I decided to take them to go see the sunset at La Jolla Cove... It was also my FIRST TIME visiting the cove as well. First thing I noticed that was a challenge is... PARKING: Very challenging! If you have the time. Wait and follow people who are leaving or ask them if they are leaving and follow them to their parking spot. That's how we got parking... PENGUINS: So adorable! So many of them!! SEA LIONS: 10/10 For entertainment and humor! Making all those weird noises really lighten up the cove! SMELL: 4/10 It really stinks! It smells like sewage and salt... SUNSET: 10/10 Totally worth the wait. The sun sets at around 7:30pm. Lots of people were taking pictures... We then walked over to CRAB CITY for dinner!! And HAGEN DAZ FOR dessert!!! THE LA JOLLA COVE WAS WORTH IT!!!!!
