I reached out to my FB Lake Forest Moms group asking for recommendations for a nice California sushi roll place for my teenager with a craving today. This place was the first to be recommended, so we placed an over for take out. Upon arrival, we walked into a lady complaining of quality while what appeared to be picking up an order so I was a tad nervous but stayed open minded since the feel of this little restaurant, when walking in, made me instantly feel comfortable and warm. When we got home and opened up our order, my daughter's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree! She immediately took a photo and began eating the entire roll within 5 min I highly recommend this place for quality tasty affordable sushi rolls etc

Food is great. Service is NOT. I order from here often and the lady there is always rude.

On our weekly rotation for dinner... or meal prep. Lol. Yogis has been here for as long as I can remember. Seems like it is a family owned / franchised location. Decent amount of tables inside. Clean establishment & fast service. Here's the BEST thing about Yogis: $3.99 California rolls on Mondays & Tuesdays. $5.99 Crunch rolls on Wednesdays & Thursdays. I mean, where in this economy can you even get food that cheap anymore? We also love their chicken, beef, & veggie bowl (Flame Broiler style). The large is plenty enough for me to split in 2-3 smaller containers as lunch for the week. Recently we tried the chicken katsu and that was delicious. We usually call in our order and pick it up on our way home from work. When we can't decide on what to eat, this is our default.

My absolute favorite spot to get poke! I have been coming here for many years and it's always consistently good. They have the best toppings and out such a good portion of everything. It very good value for money. The owner is very nice. Such a hidden gem in my opinion :)

Poké bowl by, not a sushi chef. Never again.

The guy who was fun is no longer there. The sushi chef who was there is no longer there. The owner works full-time, so there's zero ambience Worst ever poke bowl!!!! The Poké bowl was warm fish with regular oil, not spicy, like I ordered. There was no mayonnaise in the spicy mayonnaise sauce. Dude, if you have a sushi restaurant, do yourself a favor, and get a SUSHI Chef. (plus the prices doubled) NOPE!

FYI -- no photos because we were busy with a cranky toddler. First, the service was genuinely great. The sweetest lady helped us with the menu and served our food, and we really appreciated her kindness. We were also given complimentary edamame, which was thoughtful, although it was bland, dry, and cold -- almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Since it was complimentary, we didn't think too much of it. For the mains, we ordered the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bento specials. Unfortunately, both proteins were sliced extremely thin. The chicken especially had a jerky-like texture, and both the chicken and beef lacked flavor. After reading other reviews, they had similar experience. The teriyaki sauce itself was also pretty bland. The tempura was okay, but the tempura dipping sauce tasted watered down and lacked the usual savory depth you'd expect. The one standout was the roll topped with salmon and avocado with spicy tuna inside. It was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and well-balanced. Based on this, I honestly think rolls are what they do best. I really hope they improve the preparation and seasoning of the chicken and beef because it was a major turnoff -- and this is coming from someone who eats pretty much everything. It's hard to justify paying around $22 for a bento when the main protein feels flavorless and insubstantial. With so many good Japanese resto in Lake Forest, I would skip this until the proteins are fixed.

I generally get simple nigiri and fresh sushi rolls. I tried the Only You and Crunch Mania Roll alongside some fresh sushi like the Ama Ebi, Uni, Salmon belly, and Hotate sushi. WOW wow wow. Each and every piece was divine. And I tried to savor every bite. I love when restaurants give you the Ama Ebi fried head, this place takes the cake for me. Wasn't too greasy at all! I thought presentation for delivery wasn't too bad and the size of the cut for the rolls weren't messy and uneven. I really felt like a Bento box. Got the shrimp temp. with 3 vegs, miso soup, salad and rice. Ordered hot tea (tea bag in cup with "free refills of WATER" if needed - lol). Found out I'm not crazy about Oolong tea. Shrimp were very anemic, skinny, much more Tempura batter than shrimp. Veggies were more generous in the slices. Served with the usual dipping broth. This was a first and hard to believe: The dipping sauce was refrig. cold - terrible when dipping a hot shrimp in a cold liquid. When I flagged her down, she asked if I wanted it microwaved. I did. Eaten this a 1000 times and NEVER has been served with frigid broth. She acted as though this was their norm. When I took a bite of the just lettuce salad - the dressing !! was loaded with wasabi; again - another anomaly for me. I don't like wasabi. I asked her if it had wasabi in the dressing and she didn't know nor offer an alternative. A few pickled cuke slices were included with the dinner and they were fine and fresh-looking. Rice, of course. Miso soup was overly salty with 2-3 miniscule cubes of tofu & a couple small pieces of sea weed. Bathroom was clean. I won't return, sadly. Expected better for $23 - just not up to par.

My experience and meal was five star!…read moreThough, keep in mind that my five stars is based on dining here only once and not at peak hours. We arrived just after noon on a weekday. The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. The vibe inside was authentic feeling Japanese style, smallish with several tables and sushi bar seating. My chicken oyakodon was a bowl of cozy comfort to me. It was topped with two slices of yellow pickled daikon. I'm sure it was homemade daikon, not like what you get in a jar from Tokyo Central. We were served their delicious miso soup as a starter. My sister ordered beef teriyaki and tempura. She said it was good. The restaurant started filling up as we ate our meal. A good sign of good authentic Japanese is when you see a lot of Japanese/Asians filling up the place, especially older people (haha, like me), because you know they know well prepared authentic. And that's the crowd that was coming in. Located in a busy center with limited parking, it must get crazy busy later in the evening because the sign outside the entrance says where to form the line. Anyway, my oyakodon and miso soup was so good!

Our order arrived quickly and was neatly packaged in a beautiful bento-style box, making for a great first impression. **Curry Tonkatsu: 5/5** The tonkatsu was the highlight, with golden, crispy breading and a pronounced crunch in every bite. The curry had a bold, deeply savory taste that complemented the cutlet exceptionally well. Steamed rice cut through the richness, while the crunchy cabbage salad provided a light, refreshing contrast. A side of pickled radish and jalapeños added a bright acidity, with the creamy, tangy katsu sauce pairing perfectly with the fried cutlet. Portion sizes were impressively generous, leaving plenty to enjoy later. We also upgraded to a combo with a California roll and gyoza, though both sides were fairly unremarkable by comparison. **Tanuki Udon: 5/5** Simple yet incredibly comforting, the tanuki udon featured a warm broth with a delicate sweetness and plenty of umami depth. The noodles were thick, chewy, and bouncy, making them especially satisfying to eat. An assortment of toppings further elevated the dish, layering in complex flavors and contrasting textures. Overall, Hako absolutely delivered with its delicious, well-executed dishes and is a must-try for anyone craving a hearty Japanese meal.

I was kind of shocked because my mom is not an adventurous eater, but for some reason she wanted to try it. I put my name on the Yelp-powered waitlist (go Yelp!) and we got in after only a 15 minute wait. We had an excellent server. She took great care of us and answered my mom and aunt's many questions. We started with the mix tempura, which was great. The breading was light and crispy - my fav was the kabocha squash. We also got a veggie roll for the table, which was fine. My mom got the chicken Katsu, I got the nabeyaki udon, and my aunt got the zaru soba. When they came out, it was obvious we had ordered too much food. The katsu was huge! The udon was huge! The soba was huge! You get my point. Let me tell you, I now know why this place does such a brisk business. Not only are the portions huge, but they are delicious. The Katsu was fantastic - crispy, perfectly breaded and cooked, with a barbecue mustard sauce that was to die for. And my udon was simply amazing. It was stuffed to the brim with noodles and vegetables, as well as fish cake and shrimp tempura. The broth was amazing. It comes in a sizzling, hot pot, so the presentation was fun too. I also liked the broth that came with the buckwheat noodles. We walked out with so many leftovers, which were actually pretty fantastic the next day. I'm so glad we stopped in and tried this excellent restaurant.
