This is one of the best local sushi spots I've been to. Most notable about Ahi Ahi is their service. The staff are incredible and seem like they really enjoy their jobs. Everyone we interacted with was so incredibly nice. We had Leemei as our waitress, and she was so attentive and kind. I also appreciated how straightforward the menu is. They have a great selection and have the menu formatted in a very easily navigable way. The food came out very quickly and was very flavorful. The gyoza was the best we've ever had. The restaurant was pretty full on a Monday night, which goes to show what a hidden gem it is! We will definitely be back! read more

The pricing here is a little more than you'd pay at other spots but I'd still go back. I've come here a few times for lunch and always had a good experience. There are not a lot of decent sushi places around the area so this one stood out to me. The customer service is really good. I like the lunch specials. The deluxe lunch bento boxes are very filling and the quality of the fish was pretty good in my opinion. We came in for our first time and it was a good overall. We've tried several other Japanese restaurants in Lake Forest that are a bit less expensive, but the food presentation and quality here was noticeably better. We tried the bento box for lunch and liked the large number of items available to choose from, we tried the Agadashi Tofu, Salmon Shioyaki, Salmon Roll and Chicken Katsu, all of which were delicious. Although it's limited to only two items, the portions were decent so we still had some leftovers so enjoyed the rest at home. Service was fine, I noticed there are some regulars here so that's a good sign, it was not busy, but not empty either on a Thursday around noon. For lunch, there are some less expensive options for Asian food in the area, so this will not be one of our regular lunch spots, but it is definitely worth checking out and we will try to come back again, just not for a while. read more

We just can't get enough of this amazing sushi restaurant! Ahi Ahi is a quaint location in a quiet are of Foothill Ranch. They off a wide range of rolls, sushi, and other menu options such as chicken katsu. My husband ordered a lobster roll and we shared the avocado volcano, both are a must! They were both so good we went back a few days later for more! My favorite on the menu is a crunch shrimp roll and for the first time I tried black snapper. I highly recommend it. This was my first time, at Ahi Ahi Sushi Bar and Grill. The sushi was superb. I had a spicy tuna roll, yellowtail belly sashimi, and a spider hand roll. All absolutely delicious. My favorite was the spider hand roll, which I had never tried before. I loved the softshell crab. The yellowtail belly was delectable. The talents of the itamae were amazing to watch. Their knife skills, their speed, their artistry, and their understanding of flavor and balance were outstanding. I was riveted watching them. They had great personalities, too! Made me feel very welcome. This open a new window for me regarding sushi, and I plan to sit at the bar more often in the future. read more

The rolls are good. We got the red crunch dragon roll and I love it with the crispy onions. Their yellow tail sashimi was fresh wish they gave some shiso leaves with it. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 stars because they forgot a dish and pretended it was still coming but took 15 mins so I think they forgot it when we didn't even order a lot. I tried this place for the first time and my experience left a lot to be desired. They were busy on a Friday night, so we put in our order for 2 drinks, an appetizer, and our sushi rolls within a few mins of being sat. We received our drinks and calamari about 5-10 mins after ordering. After about 20-30 mins we finished our drinks and apps, then watched as table after table around us received their entires (rolls) before us. The upsetting part is that these tables weren't even seated when we placed our order. They came in after us and received similar orders of food before us. It felt as if our server mistakenly didn't put our order in... The food was good, but the service killed the vibe and somewhat ruined our first experience here. We made it known we weren't happy, they apologized but didn't do anything else to make it right and brushed us off. Unfortunately our first impression was not good and will likely go elsewhere for sushi next time. read more

When I tell you I was transported back to that little sushi shop in shibuya with no clue what this omakase had in store for you I MEAN IT. The most authentic sushi restaurant I've had since. We had such a wonderful experience the last time that we dined at this restaurant for my birthday. The server was very friendly and attentive and the food was beautifully presented and delicious as always. We ordered our usual bottle of Kikusui sake with our meal and to follow up he recommended we try a bottle of the Dassai (I think? The picture of the bottle is in my photos.), which was very smooth. It may now be our new favorite! At the end of the night the sweet waiter surprised me with a delicious ice cream treat topped with a lit birthday candle. We have done both dine-in and take-out, and it's so much nicer to dine-in when ordering sushi and tempura. Everything is fresh and nothing comes out of a container soggy. I was craving sushi on a Monday while in an area of OC (Lake Forest/Foothill Ranch) that I'm not super familiar with and so what else but to consult Yelp and I found Ahi Ahi Sushi Bar & Grill. Normally those 2 conditions (trying new sushi in a new area on a Monday) wouldn't be a recipe for deliciousness but Ahi Ahi turned out to be good! I placed a to go order the man on the phone was nice and easy to order with. I was impressed with the quality of the fish for a Monday and also the variety of the menu. When I went to pick up my order it was already ready (love that!) and everything tasted good with good quality fish and sauces at a cool temperature. I'm not going to drive out of my way to come here but definitely would order from them again the next time I'm in the area! read more

I'm awarding Ahi Ahi high marks because I've been a customer since 2015 and I'm a big fan of their lunch menu. My former employer was located nearby, so my colleagues and I would dine here almost weekly. It's my go-to spot for Japanese food in the local area because their ingredients taste fresh and their dishes are reasonably priced. I will add the disclaimer that the restaurant has raised their prices recently likely due to inflationary pressures. It's disappointing but I get it and at least the food quality has not been affected. Ahi Ahi has an extensive lunch menu with items such as apps, salads, ramen, curry, yakisoba, udon and of course sushi and sashimi. I ALWAYS order my tried and true - Lunch Special Bento Box Combination. It's served with miso soup, salad and rice and you are able to order 1 or 2 items. Since I'm a big eater, I always go with 2 items and my recommendation is the Salmon Shioyaki (note: they only have limited quantities on the daily) and the sashimi. If you find yourself in the Foothill Ranch area and you're craving Japanese cuisine, give Ahi Ahi a try! read more

Pretty darn good. The chirashi bowl was loaded with an awesome variety of fish (octopus, eel, tuna, salmon, and roe were standouts) and I must say the side of shrimp and vegetable tempura may be the best I have ever had. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but honestly, a lot of tempura tastes the same and/or is very greasy, so kudos to this place for doing it so beautifully. I am not giving 5 stars because this is not mind blowing sushi, but it was solid - and based on the looks and head nods of my dining companions re. their bento boxes, I would guess you can't go much wrong with this very focused and smaller menu.
