Goodness, I haven't been to Yogurt Pump (they go by YoPo for short) in years but I remember them from my college days in the 80s. I think they only had a few flavors then but on my recent visit, their flavor offerings and toppings have definitely expanded. I enjoyed my espresso yogurt with Oreo and Heath Bar toppings. During COVID, they just are doing walkup business, however there are tables outside. What I remember about their frozen yogurt was still true, it tastes more like soft serve ice cream than some other places that have more of that yogurt-y tang. Pros: Unlike other yogurt places, they're reasonably priced. Cons: What they're trying to pass as oreo cookie is very disappointing, and their vanilla wasn't great either. Chocolate was the best. This is going to sound weird to some and not to others: if you're particular about your sprinkles, buyer beware. They do this little trick for the toppings in a cone in which they leave a little hole at the top of the cone to fill with toppings (like oreos, bobas, etc). You can see photos of it. However, HOWEVER...sprinkles should not be done this way...and they did it this way instead of covering the cone in them. It makes no sense. Don't do that...just don't. I love this place! I went here at least once a week when I was an undergrad at UNC. It's a Chapel Hill staple that you must give a try. Plus, it's super cheap. I ordered a cookies and cream kids cup topped with sprinkles. It was definitely affordable compared to other build-your-own froyo shops. They did not spare on the sprinkles as you can see! That's always a plus at an ice cream shop. I would love if YoPo allowed you to make your own froyo though. Everything is behind the counter and done for you. This is a bit of a bummer after experiencing the greatness of building my own at other shops. The flavors they had in store were wonderful but I wouldn't go there expecting more than 6-8 flavors. Love this place! It's kind of located in a place you wouldn't notice it just walking past. The entrance is on the side of the building away from the street. You get what you pay for, which is a kind of frozen yogurt that pales in comparison to other froyo places such as Tutti Frutti (A top favorite, a must-try for froyo lovers. Don't be deceived by the cutesy name, as this place takes its froyo seriously.) and Local Yogurt, both in Durham. Yogurt is good. And the Yogurt Pump is particularly good, whether for a nice casual date, a random fro-yo time, or for just a quick yogurt-related pick-me-up. There are many things that make Yogurt Pump soooooo good: 1. It's relatively cheap (small is about $2, medium about $3, even with toppings). 2. The topping method is quite cool: they go halfway with the yogurt, then sprinkle in some toppings (Reeses Pieces :) ), then topped with more topping after they finish filling it up. It kind of makes it into a sandwich :) 3. it's relatively healthy: they have the health info on the wall across from the ordering area, so you know what you're getting based on size, etc (there's also a "People Love Us On Yelp" sticker :) It is cash only, and there are only a few seats, but it's easy to just grab some yogurt and go. I will definitely be back, because the chocolate yogurt (with Ghiradeli) is nom nom nom :-D read more

They've got the thing going on where you can pick your yogurt and then mix in toppings like M&Ms or Oreos. Trust me on this one, go for the peanut butter yogurt with chunks of Reeses peanut butter cup. Viva la resistance. Keep an eye on their closing hours, which vary in a nasty way. This is my happy place! While I was in school at UNC, I went here countless times, so every time I'm back in Chapel Hill I HAVE to go. You can't beat the portions or the price at any other frozen yogurt or ice cream place. There is always a good selection of flavors and a great assortment of toppings. This time I opted for Key Lime Tart and Sweet Coconut. I added graham cracker crumbs and chocolate chips as my toppings. PERFECT for a warm night and strolling down Franklin St. It is a popular spot, so it is common to see the line extend outside the store, but it moves quickly and is sooooo worth the wait. There are only a few tables to sit inside, so if you go with a larger group, you most likely will not get a table. The décor inside isn't anything to get excited about, but the frozen yogurt makes up for it ten-fold. A couple more tips: 1. Although they now accept credit card, you are better off bringing cash because there is an extra charge for using a credit card. 2. Keep your receipts! Once you have 10, you can redeem them for a free small cup. Every UNC student should come here AT LEAST once! It is the perfect spot for a sweet and cheap study break. read more

This frozen yogurt is fabulous! The flavors are not overly sweet, -- it's really all about the toppings, of which there are many. The cookie butter flavor is ON POINT. The only downside is that the delicious cold bounty is served in styrofoam containers. They have a little sign being like, "Styrofoam isn't bad!" - but the main pro listed is that it keep the yogurt colder longer. I think most people would be down to use paper cups (which may not be recyclable after touching dairy, but are a whole lot kinder on the environment than styrofoam) even if it meant their froyo didn't stay cold quite as long. read more
