I've been to Yokohama ramen a couple times, It's our favorite spot for ramen in Northampton. My fav has been the miso ramen. We started with the shrimp tempura and the fried chicken. The shrimp is always good, this was our first time with the chicken and I don't think that I'd order it again. It seemed pretty dry. The sauce that came with it was nice. While I usually order the miso ramen, I changed it up this time and ordered the Japanese chicken curry which I really enjoyed. This is a great spot! read more

My favorite ramen spot in the area! My friend and I passed by last night for a quick dinner, we got seated immediately! Service was quick and to the point, even though it was kinda busy we got our food in a timely manner. I loveeee the creamy broth, definitely try the R10 ramen. My friend and I came in here on a Saturday afternoon after just making the drive from Boston. We were seated right away. Went for a late lunch. We were the only customers for a few minutes. Ordered and were quickly served. Food was so good, I hummed in happiness with every bite from first to last. I'm no expert, but I've had a lot of ramen when traveling. Good and bad, authentic and American made, and while it wasn't horrible and was enjoyable Miso Ramen, it just felt a bit lacking. I could be wrong, but the quality of the broth just didn't seem the best. It wasn't bad, but it just felt like the flavoring came out of a packet, or maybe just low quality miso paste. My friend and I were in Northampton yesterday, we got pretty hungry after walking around for a bit, most places we tried to dine at were takeout only. We finally came across Yokohama Ramen, which was open for dining inside. Yokohama Ramen is a lowscale Japanse resturant. We were seated fairly quickly. There were only a few other tables occupied. Their menu is nice, everything has an image, but unfortunately not much of a description. We ordered several appetizers. We got the Shrimp Tempura, the Rock Shrimp Tempura, Chicken wings, dumplings and Takoyaki. This seems like a lot of food, and it was. We didn't expect the appetizers to be such generous portions. Unfortunately, I really didn't like most of what we ordered. I'm not a fan of dumplings to begin with, that was for my friend and she liked them. The shrimp tempura was horrifyingly oily, I know it's fried and this isn't the most nutritious food in the world, but by just gently touching it, your fingers are a greasy mess. I've had this before that wasn't this greasy. I actually removed the greasy layer to eat just the shrimp. The chicken was just fine, nothing special. I liked the rock shrimp tempura, these were still greasy, but much more tolerable. And finally I took a risk by getting the Takoyaki. I didn't know what this was. This was the best thing here, and they were the best presented when they were brought out. Takoyaki are octopus balls with a hard shell. These are hot, bite gently, but really tasty. My friend was more satisfied with Yokohama Ramen then I was. I liked two things of what we ordered. The interior was nicely decorated with Japanese umbrellas all over the ceiling. I wasn't super impressed by most of the food here, I can't say I'm looking forward to going back. read more

So this place is really cool looking and all, very cozy inside and clean bathrooms which is deserves a star. The Ramen was so far from what me and friends were expecting. We are all from Japan, they are exchange students and I partly grew up there. The ramen lacked flavour and content, noodles were meh, broth was lacking in umami taste. Not much else to say other than the decor is upside down Matsuri umbrellas wiith cools art on them. Must be popular with the hipsters and weaboos. read more

this place was whatever. the interior is refreshing as it's totally different from any place in noho. Very trendy and chic - felt like I was in a big city. The service was meh. It was my friend's birthday and she had called them the day before to ask about reservations since it was the first week and was super busy. They told her she could just come in the day of but when we did, we ended up waiting over half an hour. They let some other big party go first because they had made a reservation 30 minutes ago but when we told them we tried to make one yesterday they just apologized and made us wait. In contrast to what the previous have said, I actually enjoyed my experience here and the ramen bowl I had was pretty good. My sister and I ordered two different bowls; I don't remember what she got but I ordered the chicken ramen bowl for myself. I thought that they gave a pretty adequate amount of noodles and broth. I wish I got more than half an egg and three pieces of chicken though. The protein portion of the meal definitely could've been an upgrade; there is an option on the menu to add-more to your bowl but the items varied from $1-$3, which is pretty hefty if you're only going to order one more egg (no thanks). Nevertheless, I've managed to walk out with a happy tummy - everything filled me up pretty quick. The interior of the restaurant is pretty nice. I thought the seating arrangement was a little awkward - all of the tables are against the wall with booths as seating. I believe this is only because they had a bar adjacent to where you would sit. The staff were friendly and I saw them go around refilling waters for people. We barely drank our waters so we never got a second refill. The restaurant does not have its own private parking lot so parking would need to be on the street. Otherwise, you can also park at one of the nearby lots (about a 5-8 minute walk). It's about $1 an hour there... Overall, I liked the place. I will likely come back. If you're a first-timer, I recommend that you should check out their menu online since the options are pretty limited. read more

PROS This place is located in the trendy town, Northampton. The ramen was very delicious and not disappointing. My favorite type of ramen is tonkotsu so that is what I ordered. Usually the broth is more rich but that isn't major. The restaurant is new and fresh and I like the window bar. CONS I feel that there shouldn't be "add ons". I think it's unfair that you had to pay TWO DOLLARS just to have a half boiled egg in your ramen. I thinks that's ridiculous. The tempera shrimp (which is another "add on") is oily. Um I'm confused. Is this upscale top ramen? Soggy AF noodles. One word to describe the broth, salt. No umami, no depth. Just salt. The Pork belly was not rendered properly just squishy fatty salty meat. My boyfriend had their special ramen of the day I had the tonkatsu. Also they have no alcohol here... I like having some sake when I go out and get ramen so that sucks. Also made a reservation 4hrs before and got there only to find no tables available. Cool. I've eaten in and gotten doordash from here a few times. This place gets too much hate by folks who really love to complain. For western mass, this is acceptable. Yes, there's much better ramen in the world, but just like how Northampton doesn't have the best pizza or the best chinese or what-the-heck-ever in the world, country, or even the state, this is still *good*. It's worth going to, it's worth the money, ESPECIALLY if you have a hankering for ramen. Scale your expectations correctly and you won't be disappointed. Go in expecting to be transported to Guy Fieri's flavortown and you'll be in a world full of hurt. read more

Extremely disappointed by the experience, the service and the food. For so much character and presence, the downtown location lacks substance and soul. Most misleading is the cost and extra $2 for an egg in your ramen. Their are far better locations to get ramen that provide the heat and warmth that ramen is designed to provide. Other reviewers mentioned the coldness of the broth. Our server admitted that everything is refrigerated and then added to the ramen. Nothing has any kind of freshness or made to order quality. Strangely, there was still a longer wait for food. My friend simply requested to send their food back. This request was acknowledged and the ramen removed from the bill. I did finish mine, which is the reason for the second star. I was extremely disappointed. Great location, nice decor, poor taste in music, and just some of the worst ramen I have ever experienced. read more

Uhhh... no. OK, so, the location itself is fine, if a little wacky-looking, and the service wasn't wholly lacking, but the food was both completely bland AND completely gross to look at. A donburi should not be composed of 1) a pile of white, unseasoned, unfried rice next to 2) a pile of unflavored, stringy, fatty, lukewarm beef. If I pay $2 to order HALF of a hard boiled egg, please don't send me one straight from the fridge (very cold) that looks like it's gone bad (because the sauce has turned the yolk a weird, gross brown) -- there are ways to pull this off properly and this isn't one of them. Also, why am I paying $2 extra for less than 3 cents worth of an egg that's considered a normal part of this dish? Overall, the food had the aesthetics of gas station cuisine, had little to no flavor, and a price far above what other, better restaurants in the area charge for the same dish, except theirs would have been both tasty and nice to look at, and none would have charged you for a gross-looking half of an egg. ALSO: why are they playing very loud Country music... in a J-pop style ramen place... in Northampton? (Is there really no other music that might be, I don't know, slightly more fitting to either the town or the aesthetic of the space or the cuisine or, maybe, all three?) Go to Osaka if you want a good donburi, or to Noodles if you want decent ramen with that "Japan kitsch" vibe. I've got nothing to recommend this place whatsoever. read more

Overall, very meh. The broth was good, which deserves two stars. Beyond that, I didn't enjoy much else. The noodles were stuck together and seemed a little chewy. All of the toppings were extremely bland. I ordered the Kaisen ramen, which was advertised to have shrimp, squid, fishcake, and card meat. as you can see in the picture, it came with one single crab stick (which is very far from crab meat), 2 shrimp, 2 tiny fish cakes, and some squid. All of the seafood seemed like it was frozen for far too long and had bad texture, didn't seem fresh at all. My spinach had some dark brown leaves in it, which looked like it was pretty rotten before it was steamed. The second bowl was the spicy miso, it was fine, but the meat was definitely sliced way too thin (like thin roast beef) and there were only 3 small square slices. All of this was particularly annoying because the bowls were 13$, which is quite steep for what we got. TLDR: cheap on toppings, not worth the $$. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO KISARA in Easthampton instead. Came in on a moderately busy Sunday at lunch time. Menu is somewhat limited (no Shoyu?) but definitely offers something that northamptondoesn't have anywhere else which is a refreshing change from the saturated mediocre sushi bar market in town. Started with the shrimp tempura appetizer, which had a nice light (and real) tempura batter, but the shrimp was over cooked/rubbery, which was unfortunate. Next up, karaage chicken -- it has a nice crust to it, but also, over cooked and rather dry. Served with the traditional side of mayo for dipping but with sriracha (?). Tan Tan Ramen: decent flavor but the noodles were a letdown. They fall apart and aren't very chewy at all. They don't make them fresh. The broth was unbelievably salty and the only way to eat it was to constantly drink water. Service was adequate. A bit sputtered and aloof. Wouldn't bother coming back anytime soon. read more

Servers were attentive and kind. The prices are insane. I've seen the reviews saying here they now include the egg, but there is no indication of that when going in. Menu's all say 2 bucks for half an egg or some frozen corn. I got the "Amazing Chicken" don buri. The chicken was chewy, and the sauce was basically General Tso's without any pepper or flavor. Really just a disgusting mess. Rice was cooked well though. The menu was lacking in information too. Didn't indicate my meal came with Miso, but it did, which was a nice surprise. But the Miso was sub-par. Watered down, served scalding hot, with laughably small bits of tofu. For 12 bucks it wasn't worth it. Even at 7 bucks I'd pass. I've eaten here 3 times so far. I've gotten the Ramen once, the Gyudon twice, and the Unagidon once. The ramen, just like others have said, is nothing to write home about. Broth is good. Other reviewers have said, "Noodles were chewy," well, bud, that's because you didn't put soup in the noodles. Gyudon was better than expected; it tastes pretty damn good. There's enough seasoning and it's cooked beautifully but not enough rice. Unagidon was the disappointment of the 4 dishes. While I do understand you need to make some profit, you can get three times the size of a piece I got at Ranch 99 for less than 10 bucks. Another dish where they give you too little rice. Rice is 5 cents a bowl, add some more please. I'd give this place 3.5, but considering far worse restaurants in this area are given 4-5 stars, here's to hoping 4 boosts their rating up somewhat. read more
