This has been a long time favorite of mine. The food is always excellent. The sushi is the best ever, and I'm not sure what I'd do without the sumo fried rice in my life. The servers are friendly once they actually talk, and are able to answer any questions you may have, it would certainly help if they smiled more and were a bit more friendly when they walk around. We came in with only 30 minutes left until closing time and they were so kind! I was kinda nervous coming in that close to close down, it was two of us. I got my favorite roll "Nutty Thai Professor" good for those that like spicy with a hint of sweetness from the peanut butter and "Rising Sun Roll" which is a sweet roll that you dip in mango run sauce, so good! Reservations for 7:30 didn't get in until almost 8. Ordered one roll and a poke bowl which we didn't get until almost an hour later. Two other couples who had no reservations were sat after us and had multiple rolls of sushi and food brought out. So we've walk by this place a few times and it always looks busy. Finally decided to try it, and imo not up to the hype... So the wait at the door was like 15-20mins for a table. We decided to sit at the sushi bar instead. The sushi bar was not decorated, clutter of boxes and utensils everywhere, and just didn't look very clean or fresh. None of the guys making sushi looks or talks to you. We ordered a unagi roll, barely had any unagi in it (usually this is my favorite roll.. so i was pretty disappointed). A rainbow roll, the fish looked ok sized, nothing stood out. And a sashimi platter which wasn't very fresh either. Overall, ended up spending about $90, after some sake and a beer. The nigori sake was probably the best part of the meal. Our server dropped off the check before we finished eating, felt really rushed. Probably not coming back here and making my own supermarket sushi instead... Sometimes when a place has a lot business, they tend to lose track of the small things and quality suffers. I think sushi restaurants really needs to focus on quality, and this place doesn't have it. read more

Let me just start off by saying this: HAPPY HOUR, HAPPY HOUR, HAPPY HOUR. Holy moly, we love happy hour! This is honestly some of THE BEST quality sushi in all of Tulsa, and you really cannot beat their happy hour prices. I love to also ask for eel sauce and spicy mayo on the side for the rolls (most of the happy hour rolls are pretty simplistic), and the awesome staff is always willing to do whatever they can to amp your experience! I was looking forward to some sushi. Although we usually don't eat it in internal USA. We ate here against my better judgement. They say is at the sushi bar. Which is usually ok cause you can watch the cooks. We looked up and saw this cover strung over the prep area. As we looked closer at it... it had all kinds of bugs caught up in there. Now I'm thinking to myself now I see why they put the cover over the food prep area but it was so gross. We get our edamame and miso which was fine. They have several cream cheesy crappy sushis which is NOT sushi. So I figure I better stick with standard fare. Caterpillar roll and Spyder roll. Biting into the spider roll it was cold! Wha???? Usually it's cooked and served warm. Meh. Then the caterpillar had no skin on it and it was verrrrry sweet. The sauce was like way too sweet. Double meh.... blah....! But I ate it cause I was hungry. I was thinking this whole time about the bugs above me. Hubby had General Tsaos chicken he said was ok. But he asked for most of it Togo. He just couldn' t muster eating it in there. I did mention the crab being cold and she did take that off our bill which I said I did eat it. But ok. They next day I was running to the toilet all morning long. We think it was from eating there. Great location in the middle of downtown Tulsa. We ordered Cho Cho tenderloin skewers and snap peas for appetizers, wow, delicious! You also can't go wrong with the Nutty Thai Professor and Southside sushi plates. Both dishes have a kick, but with very unique tastes and the peanut butter in the NTP was just right, I will def be ordering that again. The Sangria had plenty of fruit with the perfect spike. I wasn't a fan of the sake bombs (personal preference) but their sake blasters were very good and got me where I needed to be on a Friday Night! I will say that the rice was either too hard or too soft, not the perfect consistency of a roll but the flavors were delicious. Also spotted Abraham (Michael) from TWD, which was cool. This is one of my favorite sushi places in Tulsa! We decided to eat dinner here before a comedy show at the Cox Convention Center. The location is convenient and close to both the Cox Convention and the BOK center. When we arrived there were no open tables, however, we were able to immediately sit at the sushi bar. I attempted to make reservations before we arrived, however was told they do not take reservations after 5:00. The menu has several different sushi options, appetizers, broth noodles, and various Asian dishes. They also have a large drink menu with wines, cocktails, saki and beer. I highly recommend the Catalina wine mixer with white wine. For our appetizers we ordered the sweet potato fries and the chicken satay. I highly recommend both! The fries were cooked in a tempura like batter, and were crispy and salty. And were delicious dipped in the chili soy sauce and wasabi mayo that came with them. The chicken satay also tasted very good. The chicken was flavorful and grilled to perfection, and was even better once coated in the creamy peanut sauce. We decided to order a few sushi rolls to share for dinner. We ordered the Route 66 roll, rising sun roll, and the nutty thai professor. I highly recommend ordering these as well! The main downside to Yokozuna which I have experienced in the past is that they can be very slow. If you are planning to be at a concert, etc after eating here I recommend arriving early to ensure you have plenty of time for your meal. We were at the restaurant an hour before we received our sushi! We did receive our cocktails and appetizers in a timely manner and were enjoying an evening without kids, so the hour didn't seem too long. But we were almost late to our comedy show. Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant because I have never been let down on the taste and quality of the food. However, definitely keep in mind the length of time you may have to be at the restaurant. read more

I did not expect to find a decent sushi restaurant in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, but was pleasantly surprised by Yokozuna in the historic Blue Dome District along 2nd Street. There are two locations to this Asian fusion restaurant and sushi bar, but this review relates to the downtown location. Reservations are recommended on the weekends, but since we were there mid-week they were able to seat us right away. There's a main dining room, a smaller side dining room, and then seats at the sushi bar. If you tell them that you're there just for sushi, then you'll likely get a seat at the sushi bar. The menu has quite the variety of Asian appetizers including Spring rolls, gyoza, pupu platters, and ceviche. They offer miso soup, and several different styles of ramen which were quite popular on this chilly January evening. The entrée choices were the traditional Americanized Chinese favorites mixed in with Pad Thai, Thai curries, and tacos made with pork belly or fish. I ordered some Miso soup and edamame to start, and then went straight to the sushi menu. I found a sashimi offering of Yellowtail carpaccio with a chili Ponzu sauce which was fabulous, and followed that with the Blue Dome Roll made with escolar, yellowfin and salmon rolled in masago and scallions. Both were delicious, and a real treat. If you enjoy Asian food, and find yourself in the Blue Dome Arts District of downtown Tulsa, then Yokozuna needs to be on your list of places to try. read more

Seriously some of the best sushi I've had in months, and in OKLAHOMA -- can you believe it? Someway, somehow, these people nailed excellent sushi in an Midwest, inland state, thousands of miles from an ocean. Can you tell I'm impressed? I had the miso soup which was delicious and filled with fresh chunks of shiitake mushrooms. Followed by the infamous Hot Mess roll which went beyond its boasted expectations. I came in hungry and was stuffed by the time I left on a full belly of these two items and their delicious liter of Sangria (I shared with a friend and took an Uber -- don't worry ;)) Local or visiting, do not miss this spot. After reading these reviews, I was expecting something different than I got. I received fair service, and mediocre food. I walked in and waited a few minutes until someone walked up to the host stand and asked if I had been helped. I asked for a small table if available, and was seated right away. They have an okay local craft beer selection, I went for Rocket Fuel from Mustang Brewery, which was fantastic! I started with the seared ahi tuna taco appetizers, would not have been considered an appetizer for anyone but a eight year old, and even they would have scoffed at the $8 for these minuscule sized chalupa tacos stuffed with a few pieces of fish. I opted for the meesh mash, which is a poke type of bowl of sushi over sushi rice. It was fresh and very good. Living in L.A. I feel like I have a pretty good finger for what good sushi is. What it is not, is a load of California Rolls, and rolls made up of cream cheese. I have never seen so many cream cheese based rolls in my life. And cream cheese does not belong in sushi. I really wanted to see some great looking/sounding rolls and have a blast, but instead found myself stuck skipping rolls that simply had no real variety or flavor profile experiences that sounded interesting. I was checked-in on once after I sat down, and received my beer in about 10 minutes. I poured over the menu for a good 15 while I tried to find the ting that jumped out at me, begging to be tried. After settling on my selection I placed my order. I didn't see my server again until my plates were empty. And even then, it was only as he walked by the partition walkway, leaned over and asked if I wanted the check. I left feeling as if I had somehow missed what made this place get so many amazing reviews. Maybe I didn't try the one right thing, but if a place only has one 'right thing' is it really all that fantastic? Not bad food, simply disappointing. While part of it may be due to the location and the limited selection around this neighborhood, in which case it's probably a good lunch or post-work meetup spot, I can't see a place like this really being a go-to destination for Japanese/fusion. read more

Came here on a busy Friday night fairly late in the evening. The menu has an impressive selection of sushi rolls of which I tried the pub roll and the route 66 roll. They were both delicious! The pub roll came with this super yummy wasabi mayo sauce. For dessert, we had moshi balls (we tried one strawberry, one green tea, and one red bean) and they were so much tastier than I expected. In addition, the presentation was great and perfect for splitting with someone. Though I will be back to try more items on the menu, I was a little disappointed with the service. read more

Perfect for special occasions/date night/or dinner before a fun night out on the town. I am pretty picky when it comes to my rolls.. but Yokozuna always knows how to make me happy. I usually ge a roll with eel & by default they usually come with avacado. They allow me to sub cream cheese at no extra cost or hassle. Wash all that down with a sapparo and call it good!
