I have eaten a many of dishes from Yokozuna and I will say that I have never had a restaurant be so accommodating with their menu as they we're. I don't eat meat but wasn't wanting the basic veggie roll, they were able make me a dish of fish tacos but instead of fish, they made shiitake mushroom and asparagus. Not to mention that their option of having a "Chefs Roll" meant they had full creative freedom so it's always different and amazing. No, this isn't a "traditional" sushi restaurant but they are very good at what they do. Their sushi is wonderfully made by their chefs and will change ingredients as best as possible to help if you have any dietary restrictions. The environment is inviting and fun. It's great for the evening time when grabbing dinner before a show but also good for lunch alone. They have a Happy Hour with decent prices. Did I mention they have BRUNCH? the potatoes alone will keep you coming back, seasoned to perfection. And the breakfast burrito is the size of your face, it's huge. Theres always more I could say like, always ask for a side of wasabi mayo with anything you order-no matter what, but really this place is a good restaurant when you're out. I may or may not be a rice addict lol but the consistency of the rice was not the best Also, huge pet peeve, I do not like mushrooms and found a bunch of them in my dish. Incredible, y'all! I've had a lot of fish tacos. Some were average, some were above average and some were below average. These were off the chart! Not even to be compared to other lowly fish tacos that I have had in the past. All other fish tacos that I eat in the future will be judged against these wonderful babies. I made reservations here through my Open Table app, which I highly recommend, for me and my wife tonight as we start our tour of downtown restaurants we've never been to. We were greeted warmly and promptly given a table even though we arrived 15 minutes early and they were clearly busy. All the service we received was good except, oddly, for the service we received from our waitress. She never introduced herself and didn't welcome us in anyway - things that I find to be common courtesy. Her first sentence to us was "what do you want to drink?" in a flat, emotionless voice. She spoke in the same manner throughout our visit, never smiling and sometimes talking so low we had to ask her to repeat herself. Maybe she was going for the whole 'geisha' thing - to be seen and not heard. Idk... Like I said, though, the other staff we interacted with were pleasant. My wife and I ordered drinks first - the Hello Sumo, Hello Kitty for her (because it was fruity and strong) and the Catalina Wine Mixer for me (because I make my decisions based on pop culture references). We enjoyed them. We both ordered the General Tso's Chicken as our entree and were equally displeased with it. The chili sauce was waaay too salty, and there was waaay too much of it. Our fried rice was practically swimming in it. Needless to say we barely picked at our bowls. The sushi, though! It was delicious. We got a Hot Mess roll and a Golden Driller roll. As the name would suggest there's a lot going on with the Hot Mess, but the components work so well together. And the Golden Driller is nice and spicy. At the happy hour prices it felt like we were getting a steal. Overall I wasn't blown away. Admittedly I might have had my expectations set too high. I travel to Tulsa often and usually stay downtown when I do, so I was glad to find more options to eat downtown. I had walked past Yokozuna on several previous visits, but stayed away due to the reviews and lack of sushi originally. When I learned they began serving sushi, I was definitely more entice to try it, but still could not get over the reviews. We asked around the hotel to see if any of the employees had been and they said it was very good for sushi, so we gave it a try. First, let me say that the sushi was phenomenal. Not just OK, or good enough since it is in walking distance, but really very good. We ordered a seaweed salad to start and had three different rolls. The sumo roll was absolutely delicious. It has beef tenderloin on top that really makes the roll. We also had the Geisha's Demise which is served with a spicy sauce that really compliments the cool refreshing roll. We sat at the sushi bar and the service was really outstanding. Greg and Meghen were very pleasant and answered any question we had. Our waitress took care of everything we needed before we had to ask. I will definitely be returning. Even with a bottle of wine, everything was very reasonably priced. read more

Ok, for nearly $20, you can get the Chicken Ramen and a cup of Miso soup. Yep. $20. The noodles tasted just like the ramen noodles you can get out of the cheap $1 packets that most Army soldiers have experienced once or twice in their life. (who am I kidding? Our unit had closets full of those things). There was absolutely no seasoning to the noodles (you seriously don't have to use salt to season everything so SOMETHING for flavor would have been nice). Completely bland. Barely any seasoning on the TINY chicken breast. A couple of cilantro leaves and lettuce leaf with a lime wedge to round out the meal. Oh! Wait! and a sliver of scallion. Almost didn't see it. The soup? Ok but nothing I haven't made (much better) at home. Lesson learned. I will not forget my dinner when I work my night shift anymore. This was ridiculous. Let's get real. Tulsa is not where you think when it comes to sushi. But as far as sushi goes, Yokozuna is in my top 3. I usually go to the South location but for lunch downtown is so easy. I always try to sit at the bar because I always have an awesome time talking to the bartenders. Table service has been iffy occasionally but I still love it here. I recommend the flaming volcano or the hot mess. The golden driller is always a staple for me. The dilly roll and the nutty Thai professor are also fantastic... actually I can go ahead and name the rest of the menu. I haven't had a roll yet that I didnt love. Sushi - 500 miles from the closest ocean - I was skeptical... AND I WAS PROVEN DEAD WRONG!! Yokozuna is one of my favorite Tulsa hot-spots. After just one visit I am a huge fan. I have ventured to the corners of the earth and dined at the worlds "finest" sushi bars. After my trip to Yokozuna I have added them to that list of BEST-in-Class! Talk about fresh - the fish must have been swimming moments before it was brought to my table. I think I even saw my tuna jump once or twice! haha The flavors were out of this world. 99% of what we had was Sashimi. The only roll we had was a chefs choice - and it was just that: CHOICE. I don't think I have ever had a sushi roll that was as good as what the chefs made. It was the perfect balance of spice, flavor, color and presentation (a picture of this roll set is included; just look for the pic I submitted). I won't go on and on - just trust me you aren't going to find sushi better than this in Tokyo. Our server was great. Attentive, friendly and willing to put up with an indecisive couple. One of us was a sushi pro (guilty) and my friend was somewhat new to how its done... our server worked with us to ensure we got exactly what we wanted and maybe more so prevent us from getting what we didn't want. The menu is great. Plenty to choose from. Sushi, Sashimi, Rolls, and "other" for those people who like to order chicken or whatever at a sushi bar (weirdos). The saki menu is equally wonderful as is their beer and cocktail menu. Seriously, if you're living in Tulsa or just visiting you needn't look further for a place to dine on GREAT sushi - get some great cocktails and have a wonderful time. Amazing. I absolutely love eating here. I've been here multiple times for lunch and dinner and I always enjoy the food. It is "Asian fusion" which I like. I've been meaning to write a review but never got around to it so here it is. I usually stick with the sushi, and so far every roll I've had has been awesome, some more awesome than others but all have been very good. They have a wide variety of rolls, price wise as well as ingredient choices. I really enjoy the Hot Mess and Geisha's Demise, but like I said, everything I've had here has been great. The sticky buns are good as well as the egg rolls and everything on the Pu pu platter, and the service has always been good no matter how busy. The service was as subpar as the sushi. Quite literally the most unsatisfying sushi experience I have ever had. The specialty role had almost no fish and extra dry rice that kept getting stuck going down. Great sushi. My wife and I were in town and found this place on Yelp. It seems that people love or hate this place. We loved it. We got "The Hot Mess" sushi roll. It was huge. It was hard to get into your mouth in one bite but worth it. The miso soup was also really good. it was served hot with really good mushrooms. It seems that people do not like this place because it is not "traditional" sushi. I would agree it is not traditional. This is a good thing because my wife enjoys this type of sushi and not the "traditional" kind, and therefore we can agree on a restaurant. My friend took me here for me to try sushi for the first time several years ago. She wanted to make sure that my first experience eating sushi was a good one- and she was right! To this day, this is some of the best sushi I've had!!! I especially like the sushi happy hour (from 2-5), when a few of the sushi rolls are half priced. If you are going when it's normal priced, it can be a bit expensive, but honestly I think it's mostly worth it still. Some of my favorite rolls are the Hot Mess, the Dilly Roll, the Flaming Volcano, and the Rising Sun. My friends and I like this place so much, we've spent many big dinners here together. Sometimes we would even get a really big group together and order so much sushi that it completely filled a long table... it kind of became somewhat of a tradition for us. Sarah took me to this place. Ok so they have amazing cuisine and they know how to do their sushi up right. Their location seems to be in a sort of club/restaurant district of Tulsa giving it a trendy type feel. The owners have taken that a bit further with extremely trendy decor. And as often happens trendy is neat but not necessarily comfortable. The Sushi - I can only speak to this as I had two rolls and didn't have any of their other dishes. I have rarely had sushi this good and I would not have believe to have ever gotten sushi this good, this far from shore. However, I have been to fancier restaurants with fresher ingredients and they were much cheaper. Again this may be due to placement or even shipping costs. I've dined at Yokozuna 3 times now & every time I really enjoyed the food. I usually go around lunch time, but never had a problem getting a table. Edamame for appetizer is always a good choice. I've had a number of their rolls & even though I can't list them all, I've never been disappointed. The service is friendly 2 of the 3 times I was there. The most recent time was around 4:00 PM & there wasn't hardly anyone in there, but for some reason it took forever just to get drinks. Good sushi, pretty good service, nice atmosphere. Update review on their brunch menu: My friends and I originally wanted to go to Bramble next door but the wait was ridiculous and we were starving. I peered at the window and noticed a Brunch menu... honestly, really odd for a sushi place. Once that I think is just mediocre. We decided to give it a chance and the service was just okay... I do want to note that the inside was EMPTY. Like I could hear crickets chirping. Anyways, we waited a while after getting seated to get our waters. The place is an upscale sushi restaurant but lacks the wow factor. I am an avid sushi eater so after reading some good reviews I was ready for the sushi to blow me away.
