Excellent food! The atmosphere is very good. They are always there to fill your coffee cup with a smile. I have eaten different things on the menu that are very good. One time I got the Eggs and Country Gravy. It was a good sized meal. I had to bring about 1/2 home. This was the very first time that I EVER brought the leftover breakfast home to eat later. It was delicious. The eggs were done perfectly. The Country Gravy was wonderful. It was not spicy, it was seasoned just right. Just delicious on top of the eggs and hashbrowns. I will even eat it any time of the day, calling it brunch around noon and brinner in the evening. But Yolks and Berries was mediocre. We were out in Kankakee for camping and decided to stop for breakfast as we headed home. It was a busy Sunday (on labor day weekend). We were seated quickly and had great service. The menu had a ton of options, which was nice but also difficult when you are really hungry. I cannot recall which dishes we ordered and I usually remember these little details. For the area, this place is a hit. There aren't many other breakfast places around, so not much competition. However even without the added pressure this place seems to do pretty well. The 2 times I was here during my stay in Kankakee I had bacon waffles with eggs, and the eggs benedict. The bacon waffles were my favorite of the two by far. The bacon was still really crispy, and the combination of sweet and savory was perfect! The eggs benedict was just okay. My eggs were a little over done (somewhere between runny and solid) and the hashbrowns didn't taste very fresh. Service was attentive and friendly. Not sure about the rave reviews. Possibly it is what you order. I had the Classic Eggs Benedict and this was far from Eggs Benedict. The "hollandaise" sauce was not hollandaise sauce at all ( no lemon flavor what so ever), or at least real. It was either powdered from a package or chicken gravy, we couldn't distinguish what it was. Also ordered fresh fruit, which was not fresh. The cinnamon roll pancakes were very decadent, but good. I was stuck in Bradley Il for a whole weekend and we had a chance to stop by this hidden gem. I ordered two items that were to die for. The first item were the Cinnamon pan cakes with cream cheese frosting. This was one of the most decadent breakfast items I ever had. It came out piping hot and moist. "Sorry for using the word moist" ha! Also the biscuits and gravy were tasty and flavorful. It felt like I was in the Deep South. Let's start with the food. Well above average quality with large portions for those who like that kind of thing (me)! I had the butcher shop omelet which has ham, bacon, sausage, and cheese within its three egg goodness. The hash browns are below average so you should ask for the "American" potatoes instead. I got pancakes instead of toast and the were above average.....downside for me....not enough syrup with no offer to get me more. The taste and quality were both above average, except the hash browns which were burnt and hard to eat. The service was average at best. The server didn't offer me more syrup, but did refill my water adequately. She was friendly, but had to many tables to control which lead to slower than expected service. Not her fault I'm sure, but still annoying. The price was about average for this area with each breakfast about $10. Overall, I would recommend this establishment for those looking for a big tasty breakfast. read more

The food was...alright. But then again, for the price, I can't be too picky. It is very affordable and the hot chocolate is relatively tasty :) As far as the entrees I tried, they were average: 1) Zamboni Crepes: really did not live up to its expectation. The flavors instead of coming together, just clashed with each other. I could taste the saltiness of the hollandaise and the sweetness of the Crepes but they did not mingle well. Very disparate tastes. Also too much hollandaise lathered on there, in my opinion. 2) Philly Beef Sandwich: One word - Blah. I don't expect it to be Philly quality or anything, but a little bit of spiciness by switching out the white onions for grilled red ones would be a great start to making it a little bit more palatable. 3) Baked Cinnamon Apple Crepes: Much better than the zamboni! The apples were fresh, so that is always good. The crepes are not thin like crepes are supposed to be, but they are appealing taste-wise, so I would recommend getting this dish....one of their better dishes. 4) Navajo Skillet: Nothing out of the ordinary. It's supposed to be spicy but the pickled jalapenos in the dish completely throw off the ensemble. Cooking with fresh jalapenos might be a big improvement to the dish and the flavors being presented. If heat is an issue, maybe take out the seeds from the fresh jalapenos and just put the seedless pepper? I think that could have done wonders for the dish. 5) Chicken Skillet: Finally a dish I thought worth commending. The description on the menu doesn't allow it to stand out (neither is it an alleged customer favorite or recommended) but it is prepared simply. I am a big fan of spice and heat but I still found it to be delicious of all the dishes I ordered because they didn't try to do something different. They stuck to the basics and created a tasty, down-to-earth dish. This dish defines the type of mom-and-pop store "Yolk and Berries" is.....friendly, homey, comfortable. The server was sweet and very accommodating! Can't complain there......I would recommend visiting this restaurant at least once. read more

We used to come here every weekend, but we haven't been in since our son was born (the newborn doesn't enjoy restaurants as much as we do). The waitresses recognized us every time and had my fiances order memorized (I try something new each time). The menu offers a lot to choose from and the food is always good. This may sound odd but- I had stopped ordering omelettes for years bc I always seemed to get a piece of eggshell in mine. Once we started coming here my fiance convinced me to try them again. Not once has that happened to me here and I order an omelette every single time. You have no idea how happy that makes me! My only complaint is the bussers. While I was pregnant (I couldn't sit as close to the table anymore) two of the bus boys hit my chair four different times with the dish cart. We asked the waitress to move us to a booth which she was happy to do. read more
