She was knowledgeable about the menu, helpful, and personable. I told her I was a bit hot, and would like to sit outside if possible, as the host told me there was a wait. I was never really a fan of Eggs Benedict growing up. Well, I was never a fan of eggs growing up. When I did eat them, I ate them in stir-fried with rice or with tomatoes. But the Eggs Benny changed my life! The oozy yolk combined with the fatty pork belly and crispy potatoes opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me. Never again will I order my eggs scrambled or hard-boiled. Never again will I order a burger at a breakfast joint. My eyes have been opened. From this day until my last day, I shall be an Eggs Benny orderer. If I lived in Vancouver, this would definitely make it into my go-to resto rotation. I heard many good reviews about this place and I bookmarked it for years, however, I'm not quite interest for long line up quick breakfast. My friend and I came here for brunch on Sunday. We got the number and went to London Drugs and Wholefood for shopping. At the meantime, we kept checking the table number online and it moving quite fast. Not sure if the team on weekdays is just really bad or if there's been a turnover since I started going, but I've been every second Saturday for the past 5 months or so and let me just say; this is my favourite brunch place in the city. The fresh squeezed orange juice (glass not flute) is the only reasonably priced fresh squeezed I can find at any brunch place, and it by itself or in mimosa form is incredible. 90% of restaurants cannot consistently poach an egg, but this place can. Order them as they come (soft) and you will get somewhere between soft and medium every time, which is exactly how I like them. Some restaurants have a very soft soft where it's white runs everywhere but that is not the case here. The first time I went I ordered a medium and was disappointed but it's been amazing every time I ordered standard (soft) The quality to price ratio is definitely the best in town. My experience with the service has been beyond excellent. Treat them well and they will treat you better! Best service in town (at least on Saturday) The patio is awesome in the summer. The indoor seating is meh, definitely the worst thing about this place as a brunch restau. Like there's nothing wrong with it, it's just clean and plain and in a relatively small space. After my last visit at Yolks, their manager reached out to apologize for the experience which was really SO nice of them! They offered to have me try my favourite again on the house and I did! Always nice meeting new people and talking about food ! We both ordered the bacon Benny but different sides, one with the truffle potatoes and one with the hasbrowns. Personally the truffle was a little strong for me but the potatoes were made well, I would definitely order the hasbrowns next time or maybe ask for no truffle on the potatoes. The Benny itself was great! I asked for the eggs to be medium but they came a little bit more raw than expected but it was still delicious !! Their hollandaise sauce was tremendous. Having been here before when it first opened, I remembered their lemon-truffle hash browns were really good. However at the time I already knew this place was not worthy of an hour or more wait. So I returned expecting the same or similar experience when I ordered the lemon-truffle hashbrowns with a medium poached egg. I inquired before ordering the hashbrowns whether they were deep fried or pan fried (as I like my hashbrown to be crispy, not soggy). It's common knowledge that a great hashbrown has that nice golden crispness on the outside. My server said "they are crispy on the outside but they aren't crispy inside". Perfect, that sounded good to me so I didn't ask for them to be extra crispy. When my food arrived, I was happy at the side of fruit I got for an extra $3.95. Definitely worth it, the fruit was a fair amount and fresh tasting. However the rest of my meal (my one poached egg with portobello mushrooms and hashbrowns was beyond disappointing). The only thing I could enjoy was the mushrooms. The hashbrowns were not crispy, instead they were a dark brown color, soaked in oil (which anyone with normal vision can see). My egg was not cooked medium, as you can see from the photo. I had to wave down my server (who was pleasant but not necessarily on top of things as I had to wave her down to tell her about my crappy looking/tasting hashbrowns). I asked nicely if my hashbrowns could be crispier and they clearly were soggy. Within a few minutes I got a fresh batch of hashbrowns and then I realized whoever in the kitchen was clearly an amateur. I am going to take a guess that their oil wasn't hot when they threw in the hashbrowns cos I know they gave me a fresh batch because they were piping hot but they were still soggy. When the server came around to clear my plate (I had only eaten my mushroom and fruit bowl) I gave her my honest opinion of the terrible meal. She offered the menu so I could something else but I was so turned off by the kitchen's basic errors of not being able to cook a poached medium egg properly and hashbrowns (2 attempts). The manager, Katie was kind enough to offer me a 50% discount which I think I was fair considering I only ate my fruit bowl which was $4 and the mushrooms....but I would have preferred to have a normal tasting breakfast instead of the discount. I do appreciate the server for asking me if I wanted anything else (I decided fruit would be the safest bet so I got a bowl of extra strawberries), so shout out to her. Would I ever come back? Probably not, maybe I would try the fried chicken (cos how do you screw that up?) oh wait, probably this kitchen. This place is called "Yolks" yet you can't make a proper basic breakfast. We had been wary of dining out during the pandemic, but Lisa went out of her way to make us feel comfortable, welcome and safe throughout our visit, without being intrusive. She was an outstanding server. We observed both several workers regularly cleaning surfaces and following other COVID-compliant measures, which was reassuring. We sat outside at a covered table, near a heat lamp, which was very cozy. Ordered the chicken and waffles and the 2 eggs benny with hollandaise and smoked bacon on a bed of truffle oil and lemon potatoes... The potatoes were quite good and the serving they give you is a lot. The hollandaise sauce is one of the best ive tasted..my only complaint was the servingof the bacon could have been increased. But overall...was a good snowy day brunch. The chicken and waffles.didnt dissappoint either..chicken was fried perfectly and the waffles came out excellent. This place is quite adorable. It's a small little diner like place that has a cozy feel to it. When we got there, there was a slight wait. Not too bad, it gave us time to look at the menu to see what we would like to order. When we got seated, the waitress was very friendly and the menu options were simple and easy to read. After we ordered our meals, we were just chatting and did not really take notice that our food took slightly bit longer to come out. It only came to be noticed when the waitress said to us that she forgot to put in the slip and the manager was going to speak with us about adjustments. Which I thought was very gracious of them to even notice and mention it to us. Our breakfast meals were very well plated and tasted quite well. I also noticed that on the tables, they don't have salt and pepper. Not that the food needed it, but it was something small that I noticed. If feels like the food should be eaten the way it is made. Which was a good thing because the food was quite tasty, and did not need salt or pepper. I was very surprised to see that the egg yolk was so incredibly orange instead of the usual dull yellow. I love yolks!!! This is my go-to place for eggs benny in Van. I think my favourite is their mushroom eggs benny but the ham and bacon are good as well. They also have rotating specials on any given day. Oh, and always, always with a side of their truffled potatoes and spicy ketchup! Other menu options are very good too - I've tried their chicken waffles and Belgian waffles. Their beignets with salted caramel sauce are great! Only con is the lineup but they have an app that makes the process very manageable - they will give you an estimate of the wait and then will text you when your table is ready so you can do other things in the meantime. We first discovered Yolks a few years back when we made their breakfast truck a regular stop on our jaunts up to Vancouver. While the food and service were always fantastic at the truck, the seating (which mostly involved leaning up against a cement wall at the Skytrain station - often in the rain) left much to be desired. We were thankful to discover that Yolks has moved up in the world and now occupies brick-and-mortar locations - and this spot on Broadway happened to be just a 20 minute walk from our hotel so we were eager to check it out for a post-Valentine's-Day breakfast this morning. We took a look at the menu, which was classic Yolks: you choose the number of eggs you want (or a portabello mushroom) and add to it: bread, meat, sauce, and of course the optional (but amazing) side of truffle potatoes. There was also an appetizing-looking chicken and waffles (which we saw being delivered to several tables) as well as pancakes and french toast. We decided to share a BEAST Eggs Benedict: Bacon, Eggs, Avocado, Spinach, and Tomato. And, of course, a well-toasted English Muffin on the bottom and their seriously addictive house-made hollandaise smothering the top. To say this thing was amazing would be an understatement. It was seriously out-of-this-world! Even on a Monday at 10am, this spot was hopping. We got the last open table and were seated promptly. The decor is cute; done in the signature Yolks light blue and yellow. The space is pretty tight, though - I suppose no restaurant wants to get rid of tables, especially full ones, but if there was a way to re-arrange so it was easier to move around within the space I'm sure customers (and staff) would love the workaround! read more

A very hyped up breakfast place and it lived up to it...mostly. Mom and I came on a Friday morning around 11 and there was no wait at all. We ordered the chicken and waffles as well as two eggs with ham on truffle lemon potatoes and hollandaise sauce. The chicken and waffles were my (surprising) favourite of the two since the breaded chicken breast was not oily at all, maintained its juiciness and was crispy. It was similar to chicken strips, but a little bit drier (but i'm a weirdo that likes food that way). The eggs on hollandaise on the other hand were still good but i found the entire dish a bit too oily and salty. The hollandaise itself was a bit too heavy, gloopy and filled with salt. The ham underneath was also quite salty and nothing special. On the other hand, the egg was poached beautifully and tasted delicious once i scraped off some of the sauce but the best part were the potatoes. Those not soaked in oil were tasty with a TINY crisp (hardly) but were good regardless. Overall, I would like to try the eggs benedict NOT on potatoes and just on a hash brown to see if that suits my tastes more. And also to see if the potatoes are less oily when ordered on the side. read more

I have to say their breakfast is very yummy. I loved it. I always wanted to come here and try but my issue is that every time I am here, the line up is super long. Well came here on my birthday and it was sure a birthday treat with D. So we both ordered the rib eye egg benny. Only issue was that the rib eye was a bit too chewy and yes it was a bit fatty too. I mean the porch egg was awesome. The glazed onion were delicious. Anything with their glazed onion is yummy. I had truffle lemon potatoes on the side. They are sure generous on the truffle oil and that is a plus. It makes me happy when I can taste the truffle oil in the fries. MMM MMMM. They were also quite generous on the hollandaise sauce too. It rib eye egg benny is more on the pricy size given the decor and the place. But it was really yummy. I also had their home made chocolate milk 16 oz with almond milk. The drink is very filling but its some what refreshing and not too filling. So its like a light drink or mid tier light drink. I like it. If I had two then it would definitely fill me up and won't be able to eat my meal. Also note that they have spicy ketchup and regular ketchup here. I mean at first when I saw spicy ketchup, I thought this was a joke and its just regular ketchup. I mean the spicy ketchup is not super spicy but I personally prefer the regular one. You have to ask for it because it may not be in your reach but they do have choices. Decor is not bad. Its interesting. I sat near the orange juicing machine and that was some what entertaining to watch. I have noticed lots of people order their fresh orange juice. Also when you get here expect a long wait like an hour. I was lucky, I got a window seat and waited only 15 mins. But originally after I put my name down, it was an hour wait. The place is always very busy, that plus the layout of the tables can make it feel small and cramped. They are known for their perfectly poached egg bennies but also has the basic expected sweet breakfast dishes. The restaurant starts at 9am. My boyfriend and I got there by 9:30am giving them the name and cell number and waiting outside the restaurant. The wait was 45 mins long even though the server told us that it was about 20 min wait. After looking at people's reviews and knowing that the breakfast was good, we waited in rain and hoped that it was worthwhile to wait for the delicious breakfast. We got seats around 10:15am. We went into the restaurant and it was packed with tables, chairs and people. It was not a comfortable place to enjoy a good breakfast on Sunday. The tables were side by side that we literally sat right beside some people that we didn't know. It was noisy inside that it was hard to chat. I had to raise my voice and say everything loudly in order to talk to my boyfriend. Our server took our orders quickly. We got our coffee first. The coffee was ok or below average. If you are a coffee drinker who has a high standard on the quality, you wouldn't like the coffee. We ordered a dish of two poached eggs with ham, English muffins, hollandaise and hashbrowns as well as a dish of chicken and waffles with a poached egg. The quality of all these food was just average. It was good overall, but I would not want to wait for 45 mins to just eat an "ok" breakfast that I should just go to yaletown or downtown to eat the same thing. The server was very kind and friendly. The prices for all the dishes were average (see pricing on the photos that I took on the menu). Not too expensive and not too pricy. If people wouldn't mind to wait, it's okay. Our server was very pleasant & gave us recommendations. The coffee tasted different - not sure if I'll have it again. We had French toast & 2 Perfectly Poached Eggs - & they were! The French toast was so tasty & unique - it is covered in a crumb(panko) mix. It was crunchy & soft to chew - add maple syrup & I was sold! The poached eggs & ham were very good & the Truffle Lemon Hash Browns(more like large fries) were fantastic - no need to add ketchup but if you do its all good - will have a tad citric taste. Luckily, Yolk's was one of those places I had grown up hearing about, but never got the chance to try until now since they do offer take-out; unfortunate that I didn't get the chance to dine-in before, but I'm not complaining. I'm just glad that I know about them now! Service, presentation, taste, quality ingredients = 10/10 from me, man. Yolks offers the classics, such as chicken and waffles, but what I came for were the famous, refined eggs benny options. I opted to get the pork belly eggs benny with hash brown patties. My special homie that accompanied me on this journey opted for the smoked salmon and avocado eggs benny, also with a side of hash brown patties. And my, oh my, was that probably the most transcendent meal I've ever had sitting in the driver's seat of my own car. Perfectly messy, well-portioned, and extremely delicious will be whatever you order that comes out of that kitchen, I have no doubt. Yolks will make you fall in love with this stuff, especially if you've never had an eggs benny before. The pork belly was just the right amount of fattiness, the egg was cooked with precision and to-order. My special homie had no complaints about the smoked salmon and avocado benny either. The hash brown patties were GODLY - crunchy and crispy on the outside, well-seasoned and fluffy like clouds on the inside - paired with ketchup or hot sauce or eaten alone. I don't know how I feel about this place. One thing I know is the food is beyond amazing, honestly this breakfast food place has the most amaaaaaazing tasting waffles, chicken, eggs Benedict, hash brown. Have to say this is the number one breakfast place. I gave it a three stars because considering it's good food, the restaurant didn't really cater to the demand. Yes it's a small place, I get that but waiters, host should be more attentive to their customers. We waited a total 45 mins outside in the cold winter rain before we were seated. 20 mims just to get the bill but at least the food came fast so I guess it makes up for it. They should get a bigger place, I know this isn't as easy as it sounds but their food is so good and their so much people wanting it. They should expand space wise. (They already have 2 locations in Vancouver) Also side note, portions are awfully too small for my liking. I ordered the chicken and Waffles and after finishing my meal I was still hungry and wanting to order a side. Although the wait was 25 minutes, time passed by really quickly since we were able to roam around Broadway freely before we were sent a text to head back to the restaurant :) I thoroughly enjoyed my Croque Madame! It was really hearty. And I thought the price was really reasonable as well :) I wouldn't mind coming for brunch again! ~~ Sunday - waited 55 minutes at Elysian Cafe Ordered a 1L jug of mimosa to share with friends and a delicious chicken waffle that didn't disappoint. The 55 minute wait was definitely worth it. ~~ Note: it's seems to always be really busy here, so go earlier to jot down your name on their wait list before you wander off on Broadway. Wonderful service, but just okay food. Stopped by on a weekday for brunch, and we got there just before the lunch time rush. I had the salmon and avocado eggs benedict with truffle lemon potatoes. The yolk was runny and the flavours were good. Saltiness from the house-cured salmon and creaminess from the avocado. I would have liked the English muffin to be toasted a bit more as it was hard to cut through. The truffle potatoes were crisp and seasoned well. I tried the crispy hash brown patty and was disappointed. Previously I've had the hash brown and it was so crisp and delicious. However this time, it wasn't fried enough as it looked quite light in colour. It was also a bit greasy and didn't have that crunch to it. Overall, the food was alright, but a bit pricy for what it is (but then again prices are going up everywhere...). Anyone that knows me will know that I love a good benny and will always recommend Yolks. Hands down the best eggs benny in the city! Not sure when the best time to go is because I'm always there during the busiest times. Long line ups for sure, they don't take reservations and you must have your full party there in order to be seated. They always say a longer wait time than usual (or maybe I'm just lucky) but I have never waited more than 30-40 minutes to be seated. Honolulu Coffee is next door so we're usually hanging out in there while waiting. I ALWAYS order the same thing: 2 egg bennys with the maple ham and Hollandaise sauce, on an English muffin and a side of truffle hash browns with no salt. Today they gave less hash browns than usual. I would always have left overs to take home but since there was not much, i ended up eating it all. Other than that, it all tasted as perfect and delicious as it looks! I've tried other things on the menu but I end up going back to the bennys. There's this one Asian girl that serves us every time I'm there. She gives the best service!! The only thing I'd have to say is that the space is really small and sometimes you're elbow to elbow if you're sharing a table. Hard to get out too if someone is sitting really far out. I go to this location because it's closer but if I'm going with a big group, I'd go to the Hastings location instead. read more
