Amazing brunch place. We went here twice in 2 weeks on a weekend morning. The location on Broadway is small and very busy so I wouldn't suggest coming here with large groups unless you're okay with waiting for a while. Service: they have an online waiting system so once you go and add your name and number to their list, they will text you once they have a table ready. The first time we went, we only waited about 30 mins while the second time we went a bit later on around noon and our wait was an hour. Luckily there's two cafes right next to the restaurant and many people end up going there to wait. Food and drinks come out quickly which is probably why they have pretty good turn around time for such a small and packed brunch place! Food: We've tried the mushroom benedict, salmon benedict, and the chicken and waffles. Weve been ordering the Benedicts with hollandaise and truffle potatoes. The potatoes are really crunchy and perfect and the truffle oil just brings out all the flavours. Match with the perfectly cooked eggs and we emptied the plates pretty quickly! Some think the sauce is a bit thick but it wasn't any different from what I expected. The chicken and waffles are also great! Chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. It comes with a white gravy(?) Sauce and syrup. Waffles are nice and fluffy too, but I still think Tuc has better chicken and waffles. I'll have to go back there to compare again.... Mimosas are also great! We ended up sharing a whole life unexpectedly but worth it! I tried their cassis version too and it's not as bubbly. I think their original mimosas are better. Interior: it's a nice and cosy little place that's bustling. Not much space around and most of the tables are for 4 or 2. Two of us ended up sitting next to another pair but the table is for 4 with a small divide although it's a joint table...that was a bit awkward but once the food comes it really doesn't matter! Overdue revisit. Yolks contacted me since my previous review to give them another chance. He had a meeting and sorted out the issues with his staff to provide a better Yolks experience. I appreciate his efforts despite the restaurant having a long lineups with or without my low rating. My updated review isn't bias by any means. I've up them to 4 stars because they actually deserve it. My second time around was way different compared to the first. The food tasted so much more flavourful and had it not been for the wait, it's be my to-go brunch place. I came around 1:30ish and waited for an hour. I got the daily special Jerk chicken benny (5/5) with a side of lemon truffle hash. The benny was superb. The base was not the typical English muffin, it was cornbread with pulled jerk chicken and the oh so nicely poached egg. This didn't need no sauce. It was good as is. The hash smelled good as it did last time. It tasted better than last time but I'm still not a fan. My coworker loves it to death. He would get it an extra side to his side. We also tried their famous chicken and waffles (4.5/5): my partner liked this a lot. I personally am more used to the deep fried battered chicken opposed to the panko crusted fried chicken at Yolks but that's just my preference. I like that it comes with maple syrup and gravy. That way you can get your savoury and sweet fix. There's also some hot sauce on the table if you need to add some heat. The bangers were a bit pricey and small (2.5/5): I didn't think this justifies for the cost of 4 bucks. But the green smoothie was lovely (4/5). I've never been disappointed whenever I've eatten here. I usually come here with my sister after the gym. We actually come here quite often. Both my sister and I usually have a coffee. I alternate between having the salmon Benny or the chicken and waffle . My sister alternates between the waffle with bananas and pancakes with sausage. Today I decided to have the waffle with candied walnuts , bananas , caramel sauce and whipped cream, and some of bacon plus a side of their lemon truffle hash browns. My sister had her usual pancakes and sausage. I didn't realize how big my order was! It was yummy! I packed the leftovers home. Service each time I come is good. However, it was not as creamy and rich as advertised. Portobello Benny: sliced sauteed portobello mushroom with arugula. Ham Benny: classic Benny combination with Yolk's own dijon sauce! The Dijon sauce was flavorful yet not overpowering. We opted for the typical Benny assembly with Hollandaise sauce and a toasted English muffin. The construction and presentation of the Benny is very appetizing. The English muffin was toasted with heaps of butter (YUM!), and the hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy. The poached egg is runny, the only way to have a Benny. The best part, that's uniquely Yolk's, is the truffle Lemmon Hasbrowns. They're cubed bite sized potatoes, flavoured with lemon and truffle, a heavenly combination!!!! My thoughts overalll: you can count on Yolks to deliver consistent good quality breakfast food that allows for customizations. The decor is simple and clean, but the organization of the tables are slightly crowded. Food is priced above average, but you are paying for the quality with a sacrifice on the quantity. I have been meaning to come here for ages, and boy! They did not disappoint! We came by on a Friday for lunch leading into a long weekend, so there was a wait time of 35 minutes, which wasn't too bad. There's paid parking on the side streets & it's super close to the skytrain, if you're commuting over. I ended up ordering two poached eggs with avocado on an English muffin with hash browns, while my friend ordered two poached eggs with double smoked bacon on hash browns. Discoveries that were made once the food arrived: if you choose to get it without the English muffin, imagine your Benny on hash browns, that's basically the set up! I wish I had known earlier cause I would've just done that instead, but it's all good, cause it was still AMAZING! My friend and I decided to get a jug of OJ to share, which was a tiny bit too much for just two people and the portion of food we had ordered ! We decided that it would probably be just right for three people. Realistically, we probably would've had an easier time consuming it, but I think they completely missed our OJ order the first time round and we had to wave them down to ask about it... so by the time we started drinking it our food had also arrived, ergo, the struggles. Arriving at 10:30am, there was a short line up, we put our names down and was told to wait outside for at least a 20-25min. Within the next 10 min we received a text letting us know our table is ready. Returning to Yolks promptly, we were informed they'll be charging us extra for our outside drink. Despite explaining our situation: we were told there was a much longer wait time, and that we barely drank the coffee, the server said rules are rules... so we sucked it up and agreed to pay the surcharge. The restaurant was packed and the service was slow. My menu has stain on it and it wasn't very clean. We ordered a salmon and a ham benny. The server didn't bother telling us about the "today's special menu", or ask us how we'd like our eggs. It was like a fast food restaurant, she simply took our order and moved on to the next customer. Both our dishes came heavily seasoned; my smoked salmon tasted like it came right out of the package, and the ham was extremely salty. The worst part about this experience is the fact that I was sitting really close to my table, and even so, every single time a server walked behind me she bumps into my chair. This happened several times and not once did she acknowledged it. The only good thing about Yolks is that it is centrally located. I loved the Yolks franchise so much that I returned for a second visit, this time to this location at Broadway and Cambie. One immediate plus is its location--right next to a major Skytrain stop, plus a million other buses. After loving the make-your-own English muffin egg combo on a visit to the Commissary location, I tried out the Belgian waffle with the banana, candied walnuts, and homemade salted caramel option here, because why not emotionally eat a bit after plodding through the unseasonably snowy, unplowed streets for week:)? The waffle was dry and extra crunchy and the salted caramel spread was far too sweet and rich to use in drench-like proportions and sog it down a bit, as you might normally with maple syrup. In terms of value and satiety, the English muffin sandwich dishes are still the stars on the menu for me. I live not far from this restaurant and wanted finally to try it. I showed up alone. There was no line, though there was a couple and another larger group of people getting out of their cars looking as if they were coming towards the restaurant. All of the tables appeared to be taken except for one table, a very small table at which two chairs were placed. The host at the front door turned me away, saying that he could not seat me since I was only one person. This was not a fun experience for me. I was alone on a holiday, and I would have liked to enjoy a breakfast cooked by someone else. I don't know why I was turned away (I like to think I dress well and am well-behaved). I am an older (60s) white woman. I suspect I was turned away because of bias - a bias against older single women and perhaps the thought that more tips are possible with larger groups. I think its only fair that I start of this review by saying this - i have frequented yolks many many times and continue to return. Yolks does eggs well. Period. In Vancouver, a city where brunch is basically as sacred as church, that means a lot. Their eggs benedicts are truly fantastic, unique combinations of different proteins with good ratios of hollandaise to english muffin. But i think what sets yolks apart is what they do besides bennys, because theres a lot of places in Vancouver that can make a mean eggs benedict. Namely im talking about Yolks' truffle potatoes. Potatoes that I would sell my first born to eat while writing this review. They are crispy, there are lots of them and there is just enough truffle to make them not overwhelming but also truly spectacular. Same goes for their beignets, which are pillowy and perfect for the sauces they provide. Are they authentic? No clue, but they taste darn good, abd add to my waist line quite nicely. Why the 4 stars you may ask? Well here's the kicker with yolks, it's expensive. More expensive than I feel good about paying for to be honest. I once accidentally said yes to orange juice and spent 6 DOLLARS on a glass of juice. With $18 bennys did i mention 6 dollar juice you haven't even added beignets, tax or tip and you're already looking at a hefty price tag. However, theres a reason i keep coming back to yolks as their quality is truly superb, and seriously delicious every time. ( i must remind everyone of the truffle potatoes). This was my first time at Yolk's, after hearing good things about it for a really long time. I've never got around to trying their Hastings location, but we decided to head to the Broadway location after trying to go to a different brunch place, which was closed for Boxing Day. Their menu was quite cute and intuitive - through a flow chart, you choose how you want your eggs benny to be made. It's like choose your own adventure but with food, which makes it 10x better hehe. - 1 egg, smoked salmon + aged white cheddar + English muffin: I'm glad I got just the 1 egg because I usually vastly overestimate how much I can eat (without being super stuffed), and so it was nice that they gave the option to order just 1 egg, since I feel like most places just give you 2 in the order and then I end up being super stuffed. But anyways, the egg was poached to perfection, with a nice runny golden yolk but no runny white. The aged golden cheddar had a similar flavour or effect as a Hollandaise, and I've never had eggs benedict with cheddar instead of the sauce, but I'm glad I did! The muffin didn't add much for me, but I'm glad I got some hash browns on the side :D - Side of truffle hash browns: these were absolutely great. I wished I had just ordered those instead of the English muffin as well. It was cool because the server overheard us talking about HK, and he mentioned that he grew up in HK for a bit, and so he knows a little bit of Cantonese and knows the accent/how Cantonese sounds like. However, I got my text msg to go in and not at the The hostess fault but waited for another 15-20min after because the table for us was not leaving yet as anticipated after bill was paid. The hostess throughout the time was apologizing but I was not upset because it was not their fault and the place is busy. Once seated, they served a pitcher of orange juice and coffee that was on the house for the wait time. That was not asked for but appreciated. I really don't get the hype with this place. The lineup was excessively long... so long that I had to wander off and spend an hour in a coffee shop before I was allowed back in to have my meal. I was squished up on a bar stool facing the window behind the door - not the most pleasant place to eat. Though I got the short end of the stick, the rest of the restaurant was cramped and loud as well - not any better. We arrived early on a Saturday morning and there was already a lineup. With fairly positive reviews online, I was expecting better. This place was a huge letdown. To start, the place opens at 10AM but they were letting groups in one by one even though the place was empty. We were third or fourth in line but only ended up being seated at around 10:20AM. We ordered two Eggs Benedict dishes, two kids items, and a hot chocolate. Both recommended eggs benedicts, as recommended by the waitress, were salmon and pulled pork. Both were greatly disappointing as the hollandaise sauce was weak and the toppings were either overly seasoned or not at all. To make things worse, my son who loves hot chocolate, found their drink grainy. It was the first time I've heard him even say anything negative about hot chocolate. We visited Yolks on Saturday, 1/28/2017, and had a group of seven. The breakfast was simply amazing. It was a tough choice to decide between the build-your-own Egg's Benedict or the Belgian Waffles. I opted for the Waffles, since you could get two poached eggs with it, and my wife went with the French Toast and bacon. The waffles were excellent, and went extremely well with the eggs and bacon. My wife's French Toast was also exceptional--they use panko breadcrumbs for the toast, and it was some of the best French Toast we've ever had. We had another table with our group, and they all had the Eggs Benedict, among other things. They particularly enjoyed the pitcher of Sangria. The two of us sat at the bar so we could eat faster, and it was tough seeing all the various drinks that people were ordering and not order one for ourselves. We ended up just sticking with coffee and hot chocolate, however. The coffee was pretty good but I was slightly disappointed that they did not have cream or any sort of half & half. They only have 10% creamer and 2% milk, so I couldn't quite get the coffee how I usually like it (but it was still good). If you have a larger group, like we did, you might want to come early. We didn't mind splitting up though, and we got seated and served very quickly. Overall, this place was really good and I highly recommend it. Average food for an above-average, hour-long wait. The breading on the chicken and waffles reminded me of chicken strips and fries off the kids' menu. The mimosas were refreshing but overly sweet. The crispy pork belly from the benedicts was missing the crispiness! Our eggs were also over-cooked and lacked that runny yolk goodness. The aroma of the truffle country potatoes had me drooling when we first stepped into the restaurant, but when the actual potatoes arrived, I struggled to find enough truffle flavour. [EGG-cellent!] Mornings are tough for me - especially on weekends. I love breakfast food but I'm never up early enough to make or enjoy it. When I heard Yolk's was open until 3 in the afternoon, I was sold. I found myself here one Sunday afternoon just before 1pm. I was told there was a 50-minute wait which I had anticipated. The hostess said she'd send me a text when our table is almost ready. Bonus nap time in the car! I received a text 45 minutes later and was seated moments after that. The restaurant has seating for 50 or so but they cram a lot of people into that space - many, including us, had to share tables with other people. Personally, I don't mind but if you've got a large personal bubble, do keep this in mind. The menu is quite simple and straight-forward. I zeroed in on the chicken and waffles with a blueberry banana smoothie while my other half decided on a pair of poached eggs with hollandaise, honey ham, and lemon truffle hash browns. Both places were morbidly delicious but the winner would be the poached eggs and lemon truffle hash browns. Eggs were cooked to perfection and covered with real hollandaise. /Drool Portion size was perfect even for a guy with hollow legs like myself. Perhaps it's because breakfast (lunch in this case) tends to be a smaller meal but I came out more stuffed than a Christmas Turkey. Service was amazing as well. Our server was super friendly and kept coming by with anything and everything. My only gripe about Yolk's is value. To me, it's the perfect breakfast spot but it'll start adding up if you come here too often. While the food is to die for, $50 for breakfast for two is a bit spendy but hey, you have to spoil yourself every now and then. read more

Yum. Tried the new Yolks today and it was damn good. Ordered the Ham benny 2 eggs with the lemon truffle potatoes. Also got an order of the Bangers and there was amazing. Big shout out to Johnny and Tercel at this location. I look forward to coming back and trying something different next time. The food i saw coming out of the kitchen looked so tasty. They do a fresh squeezed orange juice and they also have a house spicy ketchup that went really well with the potatoes. Open from 7am to 3pm. This place was delicious! We came in here at around 11 on a Friday with two people, and were able to be seated right away. It was very full and by the time we left, there was a line outside, so I guess we hit the timing just right. They offer a variety of boozy breakfast drinks, as well as smoothies, fresh orange juice, and locally roasted coffee (which is bottomless). I got a coffee, and we both got water. They gave us a carafe to keep at our table, which was nice because the cups were small and we didn't have to wait for people to come around with pitchers. It was quite busy by the time I needed a coffee refill so it didn't happen right away, but it wasn't longer than a 5 minute wait from empty cup to a refill. I got the bacon and arugula eggs benedict with a side of lemon truffle potatoes. My friend got the chicken and waffles. The eggs benedict were delicious! The hollandaise sauce was perfectly balanced and tangy, the bacon was deeply savory and a nice contrast to the sauce. The english muffin on the bottom was excellent for sopping up egg yolk and sauce, and not overly toasted so it wasn't too hard to cut (but still toasted enough that it didn't get soggy). The lemon truffle potatoes were excellent. They were nice and crispy on the outside, but not greasy. They were fluffy and soft on the inside. The house made ketchup was an nice accompaniment for them, but they were good all on their own too. They use larger salt crystals, which added a nice crunch and burst of flavor. I really enjoyed the chicken and waffles as well. The chicken was pretty good, with a panko bread coating, in the middle of two light and fluffy waffles. The whole thing was drizzled with some sweet gravy and came with a tiny pitcher of maple syrup. I'd definitely come back here. They do takeout as well, but I think the experience in the restaurant is worth it. read more

The first time I came was when Yolks had just opened at this location. My friend and I ordered the chicken waffle, French toast, and a side of lemon truffle hash. The place was full but not with a line up out the door and a waitlist of one hour, perhaps it was because they had just opened so not many people know about it. Now, however, is a different story. My friend knows the chicken waffle dish in general is all the rage now so she decided to try it. I have to say we don't quite understand why it's a thing? The chicken was, well, chicken, and the waffle was a waffle. Perhaps we should eat the savoury first and then have the sweet after as a dessert? But other people were eating it like a sandwich?? Tres confused. Anyways my lack of worldly knowledge should not impact how the dish tasted. The chicken was well seasoned and well fried, and the waffle was of a perfect batter. My French toast was special - it seems to be covered in a panko-style crumb and the toast was flavourful and moist. I got the sausages as the side and those were de-lish too. The toast was really large in portion... I couldn't finish and had to pack it. It is also hard to eat a large amount of sweets in one sitting. The lemon truffle hash is apparently a must-get. It was just ok in my opinion, though. Both and lemon and truffle flavours were weak, albeit the hash was a nice texture. If you enjoy truffle potato, you should definitely get the truffle fries from Joe Fortes. *** After my foodie friend yelled at me for not being in love with Yolks, I came back for a second time and got the poached egg breakfast. I got one poached egg (well-done; please don't judge me) with honey ham and hollandaise sauce on English muffin. I was afraid I wouldn't like the sauce but oh man with dijon mustard it was amazing. Makes me want to save all those egg yolks from egg white-only bakings and make hollandaise. The ham was good too and I'm not a huge fan of ham. English muffin was nicely toasted. I think it's a better idea to get the egg breakfast and share the French toast with someone as the dessert. The egg breakfast definitely makes you feel more like brunch and with the protein you would feel more up and about for the rest of the day. But I have a huge sweet tooth and wouldn't want to give up on the French toast. 'Tis life. read more

I've only ever been here once, and I'm never coming back. I came here on March 10th (I still kept the receipt because I knew I wanted to write a review lol) and ordered the Pork Belly benny with my sister and her boyfriend. It was on special but we didn't know the price of it. We ordered it anyway since it was being advertised on the chalkboard outside. P.S. we also waited more than 40 minutes. I didn't know that it would be so expensive! Funny out something is on special and they advertise outside that they don't even put the price. The portions don't even justify the price. It was soo tiny. It was $21.70 - so much higher than market price value. You can get better value at Jam Cafe for less. I was shocked. The server was also a bitch. She gave us attitude the whole time and didn't even say thank you at all when we left. The only time she ever spoke to us was when she was taking our order, and taking our money. Probably the bitchiest server I've ever had. It was hard to grab her attention. We wanted more drinks but we failed to flag her down. She shouldn't even be working here since she clearly knows nothing about good customer service. I was so mad. Her name was Lisa btw. I didn't even want to tip her. But I would have felt bad for the cooks. So I ended up only tipping 5%. Seriously. She's the worst server I've ever had and should be fired. I understand that it's busy. But from a customer's point of view, she made no effort to make us feel like we were being cared for at all. I probably would have come back, but the server Lisa made our experience such a horrible one. So because of her, we're not ever returning and spending our hard earned money here. read more

Good riddance Sliders and goooood morning Yolk's! Within a week of taking over this space, this restaurant is absolutely slammed! I walked in at 11:30am on a Wednesday and the only reason I got a seat immediately is because I sat at the bar. I'm so excited to see another successful restaurant in this neighbourhood! I ordered the Eggs Benedict with hashbrowns and was delighted with flavours of lemon, dijon mustard, truffles, perfect seasoning and all the ooey-gooey goodness that you want from this breakfast classic. And don't forget to try the spicy ketchup! Never again will I have to decide between ketchup and Frank's. Why has nobody thought of this before? The staff was friendly and attentive, despite the busy rush and the price was great to boot. I will definitely be recommending this establishment to friends and returning again and again.
