My Jewish boyfriend from Chicago gave Yorgo's his seal of approval! He recently moved here for his job and I was looking for a place that would give him a taste of home. We found Yorgo's and surprisingly even though I have lived here for three years I've never been, so we went. And it. Was. AWESOME. We both got bagels with cream cheese, Lox and the fixings--onions, tomatoes, capers, etc. I will say they do load on the cream cheese so I scraped a bit off my bagel but that is the ONLY even slightly negative thing I can say about this place! The prices are sensible for the amount of food and quality you get, the wait staff was friendly despite the morning rush, and our food was out quickly. There's actually really good options for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free on their menu. The decor inside is pretty cool as well and you really get a feel that Yorgo's cares about the community in Norfolk, since there's the event bulletin board. Bottom line: If you haven't been, go. This is becoming our new tradition. read more

Popped in here 4th of July for a breakfast sandwich with my husband and a friend. It was really busy, and the counter help was a little impatient with people (like my husband) who were not totally ready to order the second they got to the counter. That's not an unusual thing though, in a busy place, so I can't fault them there. We got bagel sandwiches (egg, cheese, meat on choice of bagel) and had them at the restaurant since a table had just opened up. Our food came out quickly and was tasty. The everything bagel was a little salty, because they include kosher salt in their everything topping, and pretty messy because the topping seemed determined to jump ship, but no matter. Disappointed to see yellow cheddar on my sandwich, but that's just because I'm a New England girl who believes cheese should only come white. I was pretty excited about this place because of the awesome reviews. The interior is kinda dark but soothing. And upon first glance at the menu there seems to be something for everyone including vegans and healthy options. The cashier wasn't super friendly and didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I ordered something nice and simple for it being my first time, blueberry bagel with low fat cream cheese. First problem the person who was toasting my bagel was not wearing any gloves as he was touching my food. I didn't notice anyone with gloves on to be honest. Secondly the bagel was like eating a tire. I expected a fluffy bagel with tons of blueberries Not one that just tasted like I ate a bagel that sat outside for a couple days. This place gets three stars for the amazing Orange Juice I had. Probably won't return unless it's just for that. read more

I finally made my long overdue visit to Yorgo's today. Definitely a Ghent institution. I ended up trying a breakfast sandwich with their vegan sausage. Now, I normally think that veganism is the product of a mental disorder but I am willing to keep an open mind. I tried it and I liked it. That may have been because the sausage was stuffed in between a real egg and a slab of real swiss cheese. I did make sure to try some of the "meat" on its own and it was quite tasty. Not quite sure how they achieve that same texture as regular breakfast sausage but I won't spend too much time thinking about it. Keeping some mystery in your life is a good thing. read more

I love bagel delis. They make life full of rays and sunshine. I ordered a jalapeño bagel with bacon, egg, and provolone. This bagels dough was extremely overworked. It was tough, uneven, sloppy, and had a terrible disposition. The bacon and egg was ok. This bagel deli made me want to go to mcdonalds. That's not a compliment. Micky D's makes terrible bagels. I'm officially a fan of the delicious vegan options here. I'm definitely not a breakfast person, but everything I've had has been exceptionally good and the vegan sausage is amazing. If I lived in Norfolk, this would be my breakfast place and I would dedicate my life to becoming a breakfast aficionado and give Yorgo's my seal of approval. (Interesting side-note: it's an actual cute seal.) And you can get full for under $5!! REALLY! Did that just blow your mind? Because it blew my mind. I could probably eat at Yorgos twice a day for a year and still come back the next day. They have the best breakfast/lunch vegan menu in Norfolk, and their bagels are perfectly chewy. Okay. This is, hands down, the BEST bagel place in town. As well as the place for the BEST vegan breakfast in town. So why the three stars? The service is just too hit or miss to warrant anything higher. Which is okay. I guess. I'll go in anyway and weather the storm, (ok, I'm being melodramatic), because I have to have my "vegan egg, vegan sausage, vegan cheese, vegan jalapeno wrap" fix. I HAVE to have this. It's so effing good. Like crazy good. Like the same crack formula at Kin's Wok Sesame Tofu good. FIVE stars for food good. Solid five for food. Drove 18 miles to try this place out. Overpriced for what you get. The wraps are tiny with hardly any filling. The sandwich on the rolls have barely anything in them. The potato salad side was about 2 tbsps and am extra $2. Everything is separate. We went because my so and I are vegan. Husband and other son aren't. Spent almost $70 for hardly any food. The vegan Philly cheesesteak was tasty but not worth $8.50 on it's own. Maybe throw a side and a drink in to make it worth that price. Also felt like a jerk when ordering at the counter because she seemed irritated I was asking questions since it was our first time there. Won't be back. read more

You can find us here every Sunday (exact time depends on how good Saturday night was). The finest bagel spot I have ever known. I'm going to have to recommend Sesame Egg and Cheddar - but if you venture anywhere else (especially into the Vegan options) you will not be disappointed. I love this place. The vegan options here are amazing. I get the vegan bacon-egg-and cheese everytime I come and am always super pleased. I'm not a huge fan of the vegan BBQ chicken sandwich, but everything else is delicious. The vegan desserts are also wonderful. I love the vegan carrot cake cookie sandwich, which is similar to the whoopie pies from Vegan Treats that we have in NY. I'm so thankful to whoever brought the vegan options to this place (Peta, I guess?) because now I have a consistently wonderful place to go get breakfast or lunch when I'm in town. read more

I loved this funky little place. The bagels are terrific! They remind me of New York bagels and I have always thought the bagels in NY are the best. I had lox, scallion cream cheese, tomato, onion and capers on an everything bagel. Absolutely delicious!!!!! The staff was very polite and helpful. I'm sort of a picky customer and the guy who helped us was very sweet about taking care of my concerns like wiping off the table when we first arrived. (It felt sticky to me.) I couldn't make up my mind on my drink and he was very patient. After he delivered my bagel to our table I realized it was just too big to tackle whole and he cheerfully returned it to the kitchen to be cut in half. When I couldn't reach the napkins he was right there to help me. I wish I had asked his name because he was the best. He recommended the scallion cream cheese instead of plain cream cheese and it was the perfect addition. I also enjoyed the bread pudding. OMG! Now I wish I didn't know how good it is. It's yummo people. I have promised myself that I will NOT eat that bread pudding when I go back. No matter how loudly it calls my name!!! I'm going to ignore it!!! (I hope) We arrived a little after 1:00 pm but I think I will wait until 1:30 to go again. Yorgo's is located in a small strip center with only a few parking spaces. I was lucky enough to find one. I say lucky because it was the only one available. I believe 1:30 is a better time to arrive because the parking spaces opened up as the lunch crowd left; and the noise volume went down inside the restaurant. Plus, I never want to get in the way of the people who have to get back to work by a certain time. I remember those days all too well. I now have all day to enjoy my food so why cut into their short lunch hour? For my disabled comrades, Yorgo's is accessible. One places their order at the counter and the staff brings the food to the table. The process goes quickly, if there isn't a waiting line (another reason to go a little later), so depending on ones challenges, some folks might need a friend to help out. We sat at a table close to the counter area and my friend helped me a little but despite the fact that I had someone who could help me, if needed, that sweet young man came to our table 4-5 times to see if we needed anything. He was great and I really wish I had gotten his name. Darn it! So, I recommend the food and the service. It's just the parking that can be a pain. read more

Great place to grab a quick, delicious, vegan and/or vegetarian breakfast. They have plenty for the meat lovers, too. Their prices are a bit high but the food is great quality. I don't mind paying an extra few bucks because their food is absolutely delicious. Always fresh and made to order. I usually drop by here about once a week and there is always a crowd but the line moves quickly. They are very organized and professional. The environment is casual and you'll find free newspapers, brochures, and even local even information. They have plenty of fantastic food and drink options to choose from. :) read more

Delicious vegan burrittos and so many vegan options! I cheat on my gluten-free diet just for there tasty vegan burittos like the peterman! Their breakfast burritos are different than the breakfast burritos I've had out West (I lived in Colorado for 4 years) and have chili, cheese, and eggs. They weren't huge and were perfect in size for a not too heavy breakfast sandwich. They have happy hour twice a day on Monday and Thursday where bagels are half off when you buy 8oz of cream cheese - I believe 6-8 AM and 2-3 PM but don't quote me I may have those times off a little. Probably a good time to get a dozen or two bagels if you're buying that many. I'm not vegan but there are a ton of vegan options. Nice well rounded menu! YUMMMMYYY I'll be back soon. read more

I've come here twice to get some breakfast food. The first time I got a breakfast burrito with all kinds of meats in it. It was pretty fantastic and the price was right. The second time I came here, I got a bagel with some meat/eggs on it. The bagel didn't impress me. I immediately regretted not getting the breakfast burrito again. This place gets rave reviews from the in-town vegan crowd, but I don't see how it stands out in any specific way from the standards. Their vegan cream cheese is pretty good, and you can buy it in little take-away tubs. They make plenty of good wraps, including the excellent bacon-lettuce-tempeh interpretation. The faux chicken salad is average at best, but the sandwich built around it is loaded with thick slices of tomato and onion with a nice, leafy lettuce layer to complement. The barbecue option is interesting, and a nice change for the palette, but I won't say it's mind-bendingly delicious (as I was told); the sauce is excellent, but what's up with the dry cabbage thrown in on top? It's not exactly coleslaw if it's dry just shredded leaves and carrots. Even so, they've got some yums on the menu, and the sesame bagel is great toasted on its own. read more

My absolute, hands-down, go-to place when I'm craving a bagel. I have to be honest in saying that the only thing I've ever had here is a salt bagel with jalapeño cream cheese here (because that's my jam) but I've had it more times than I care to admit, and it hits the spot! My husband and I went here on a Sunday afternoon for a little lunch. I will admit right away that we have pretty high standards when it comes to food so if you don't, disregard this message. We've been around the country a bit so we compare different restaurants a lot. Everything was pretty blah. I had a chicken salad wrap with red onions and when I tell you that the onions were all I tasted I'm not kidding. The chicken salad had absolutely no flavor. My husband had the bagel with lox and cream cheese. He didn't think it had much going on either. On top of that, the portions don't really match the prices. I would love to find something delicious there, but I doubt we will go back. It was pretty busy so something must be good there. read more
