First of all I love this place because it encompasses 3 restaurants in one. You get to try the different food styles. York does great sandwiches and cheeses, Ricewood was what my sisters and I settled on both of these were inside the building. What was outside was a food truck. The restaurant is amazing, food is unbelievable. That being said, this is a very mixed review. My friend and I were sitting at the bar and were subject to an antisemitic attack by the bar manager Alice Gizzy. We were talking about our mutual friend that was kidnapped and murdered during the ongoing conflict in Israel, and were kicked out of the restaurant for talking about "politics." I don't know how talking about the tragic loss of an innocent person is considered "politics." Alice is truly a despicable human and I would never recommend interacting with them. read more

The disrespect I experienced from the person with the red hair (Tiffany?) at the register this morning has changed that. I've never felt so embarrassed for an establishment's staff. The cocktails are phenomenal and the bartenders are great, but the rest of York is pretty disappointing. The customer service at the register is often lacking, and overall I find it to be overpriced. The food portions are on the smaller size, and as much as I would love to enjoy a bottle of wine in the yard when the weather is nice, with the corking fee it makes more sense to enjoy the wine at home. I understand Ann Arbor is on the pricier side, but I would expect slightly lower prices on this side of town. Your best bet here is to get a drink from York during happy hour and grab food from Ricewood or Bao Boys if they're open. read more

This is a really cute cafe on Packard that has lots of wine, cheese, sandwiches, and coffee. We went in at around noon on a Friday, and it was packed. I wish there was more seating!! More than half of the space is used for selling stuff, but I feel like they could have consolidated better and opened up more spots to sit. We ordered a cheese board with cheese and pork charcuterie, and I also got the Cali sandwich. The cheese board was small, had two kinds of cheese and two kinds of meat. The cheese was really good (cheddar and Swiss, I think) but the meats were a little lacking in flavor. The bread was also pretty tough and felt stale. I feel like they should have used crackers or at least toasted the bread. The Cali sandwich I got was $12, which felt a little overpriced for a glorified turkey sandwich. I think it's only priced that high because of the avocado, which really didn't add much. It was a good sandwich, but not enough to be $12. The overall environment is really nice. I'm sure their wines are good, and I would totally do a tasting if they offered. The service was really fast and friendly! Ann Arbor is full of cafes to work in, so if you can find a spot, Morgan & York might be worth trying out! read more

One of my favorite places in Ann Arbor that popped up as a result of covid! The York Yard is a great hangout to grab drinks with friends, or date night. The cocktails are fantastic and very well made! Staff is very friendly. On the weekends the live DJ is a lot of fun as well as rotating pop up food vendors. Best caprese sandwich I have ever had. Everything was insanely fresh and bright. My husband had a roast beef sandwich and said he's ruined for roast beef everywhere else. I am floored at how well received this restaurant is. Yes, it's in a cute courtyard, and yes, it's checked off all the boxes required for a modern, minimalist atmosphere. But $12+ for a cold sandwich? Seriously? The way I see it is, York knows they're serving high quality sandwich components -- I have no doubt that the bread was good quality, the roast beef was good quality, etc., but -- if you can't figure out how to put those items together to create a gourmet sandwich, don't charge gourmet prices. I am a frequent diner at York and every experience is phenomenal. The food is delicious, fresh, and always exceeds expectations. My favorite dishes are the Brekkie Sandwich or the Avo Toast. Both are a great staple and I usually have either once a week. Sometimes they are out of bagels later on in the day, so I've had the Brekkie Sandwich on farm bread, sourdough bread, and a baguette, but all are equally as good. There is usually a little line of about two to three groups whenever I go (often different times throughout the day), but the service is great and the line moves quickly. I'm on the fence about M&Y. I WANT to like it but I just couldn't get comfortable here. The atmosphere is a teensy, tiny bit pretentious. Also not a fan that most of the baked goods are sourced through Zingermans. I'm getting to be a regular. The outdoor seating made it a staple for work-related meetings during the pandemic, but the cocktail menu was what hooked me. I've been super happy with the beer selections, too. The menu is solid (try the tuna salad!), and they've had such amazing partners pop up with food trucks etc. At least one local restaurant I love (Ricewood) got started in this space. Everything about this place says high quality. (Unfortunately, it also comes along with a generally high price tag). The space itself is nice, especially post-renovation, and a great space to get some work done or hang out with friends for a few hours. Have had a couple sandwiches here and all the ingredients are as good as you can get (I even preferred it over Zingerman's). Unfortunately, in return, the quantity is fairly small. This, however, is now nicely balanced with the addition of Ricewood BBQ in the corner of the store, from which you can pig out all you want at lunchtime for cheap. read more

Morgan & York is a hidden gem of a coffee shop in Ann Arbor! They have a lot of parking behind the shop if the front is filled and the cafe is inconspicuously right off of Packard St. They are currently remodeling the store and extended the bar area in the back, but the store has a rusty feeling with the wood flooring and tables. There is often plenty of space and I've always been able to find a seat -- unlike some other packed coffee shops in Ann Arbor. The baristas are very skilled and I love the way they make their lattes. Sometimes I find that lattes have too much milk so the expresso is diluted, but here they hit that perfect balance. I love that you can actually taste the expresso and the quality of the beans. Their pastries and treats are also very fresh and delicious. This has become my go-to place to chat or do work with friends. Also the baristas are super friendly: I needed a tape measure once and they went to the back of the store to look for one! read more

Awesome ambience. Great selection of food, wine, beer, coffee. Arrived during happy hour which had great deals. Plenty of places to sit and chat, drink, eat, study or read a book. Awesome wine selection in the back. We then went outside to the awesome patio area which had plenty of very warm fire pits and heater options along with tents and food trucks. Yep Morgan and York is spendy as a general rule. Since joining their email newsletter list though I have gotten quite a few bargains here on some top notch goods. Granted while buying those bargains I likely also spent too much on another item but I like rationalizations for this sort of thing myself. The place is well organized, clean and chock full of delicious gourmet foods. The service is friendly and informative. You can obtain imported salumi, cheeses (including triple cremes and hands down one of the best roqueforts I have eaten...happy sigh) and even saltwater shrimp that is farm raised in Michigan. You can find great breads to go with these items, which is handy for one stop shopping. They also have alfajore here, dulce de leche cookies rolled in coconut made by the woman who runs Marcano's, that are just worth a diabetic coma frankly. You can walk in, tell them a budget and what you are serving and they can recommend a great wine or beer to go with. As someone who knows nada about wine or beer but has drinking pals this works for me. You will spend more than you intended here for sure but you will never regret the results. read more

A fun little place on Packard where you can get a variety of in betweens, that is, in between meals. Sandwiches, salads, soups long with coffee to wine and chocolate as well! They also sell a fairly broad variety of wines and one can partake many of them. The service is great and the environs are open but as noted by others there is a dirth of outlets, so bring your batteries with you if you're going to be doing some extended work here. read more

I love this place so that isn't hard for me to buy more than I should. This visit was a specific trip to grab a pound of Small World coffee. Which I quickly discovered that the SW coffee is labeled as Morgan & York, as 3 of the 5 offerings are a blend of roasted beans. After having an after dinner coffee at Logan's (on Washington in Ann Arbor), we had to have this coffee in our cupboard. The guy at the meat counter helped me out tremendously. Called Logan's to find out which blend or bean they served. (Sumatran) He refilled the carafe of olive oil I was after, and was happy to answer and explain any questions. Such personal and attentive service is lost in so many stores these days. It really was a treat. I also noticed that there was a cheese and cured meats menu and a few tables for dining in. The meat guy also prepares boards, sandwiches and other munchies for those who would like to grab a taste in house. I haven't been brave enough to try the expensive hand crafted bon bons in the front case, but they look like they would make such an excellent gift. read more

This is a neighborhood artisanal type market, with interesting cheeses, meats, and tons of wine. I went there for a coffee and to get some wifi. Both were great. Its got a lot of communal tables, and very serious coffee game. Seems like people really like hanging out there. It took a while (my main comparison is a starbucks, but for a place like this I don't know if it took that long) and I got my coffee, a late, and it was excellent. I didn't get food, but they had interesting baked goods and sandwiches. A definite recommend! read more

And when you grew into what you are today, transforming yourself from an already pretty decent neighborhood deli and liquor store into a gourmet cultural food experience complete with an entire wine room, an espresso bar, and freshly made exotic deli sandwiches comprised of cheeses from France and meats from Spain--and in the process dumped most of the "penny" candy I loved so dearly (although many quirky, illusory, and fancified candies have made their way back into your repertoire over the years) boy was I mad! I couldn't believe it--why would anyone want to get rid of rows and rows of delicious candy and replace them with crates and crates of wine? Yet then I grew up as well and quickly came to appreciate the awesomeness that is Morgan & York. Here you will find, by far, the best European cheeses and meats in town, along with fine breads and pastries from local bakers, milk, eggs, and butter from local dairies, delicious espresso drinks, great imported pastas, crackers, and spreads, and just all around amazing food delicacies. That said, while it's been a good long while since I was that "penny" candy-eating little pigtailed child, I have yet to grow into an adult wallet and thus can only come here sparingly (but living out of town gives me an excuse to drop in when I do make it back to A2 and drop a little cash on a great picnic spread!). Popped in this morning to grab some food for a party we're hosting tonight and settled on a three month Gouda, small disk of local chèvre and a hunk of manchego. I also selected the prosciutto di Parma. While in the back area of the shop I saw that there were sandwiches and that there's a wine and cheese tasting every Saturday. Ooooooh. I couldn't find much Dutch stuff; turns out the company that supplies M&Y with their Dutch deliciousness was bought out and carries far less Dutch stuff. Sad. I was able to pick up a few things for the Dutchies in my house (currently there are three). Once I got home I asked the crew about the wine tasting and everyone was interested. We headed back and enjoyed three whites (delicious) and then got three sandwiches cut up for the five of us. We had the Serrano/butter, prosciutto/arugula and caprese. All were fantastic. Love that York has opened with lots of outdoor space for hanging out in a COVID-safe environment. They have many food and drink options to order indoors, as well as food trucks like Bao Boys outdoors. I love the selection of wine, beer, cocktails and spiked beverages. The bonfires and music provide a great ambiance for outdoor hangs. Whilst living away from Ann Arbor, in much larger cities, I developed quite the wine habit. I always had my go-to wine store where I knew I could find what I wanted and get good pointers from the staff for suggestions of other wines I might like. When I moved back home to Ann Arbor I found myself content just buy wines at the grocery store or maybe every now and then going to World Market for a bit of variety. Well, then I found Morgan & York and boy am I pleased. They have quite a selection of varying prices and I enjoyed browsing around. I found a few interesting wines to take home and try and I am excited to go back and find a few more unique selections. The store also offers meats, cheeses, Sweet Gem's confections and all sorts of other goodies which is definitely an added bonus. I am very happy to have found Morgan & York and I will definitely be a repeat customer, but I did have to hold back a few starts because the staff just wasn't as friendly as I would have liked (which is the most important factor to me in a wine shop). When I walked in no one greeted me and as I was browsing, though making eye contact with several employees, no one asked if I needed assistance. I never asked for help, though, as I was just browsing, but it would have been nice to have been given a better reception as a paying customer. Even at the checkout I didn't experience a great amount of cordiality. Luckily I found what I needed easily, on my own, and was able to leave with a generally pleasant experience. read more

Not going to lie, I'm quite upset. There was no direction with the way to order drinks or food, people cutting lines, lines taking 30 minutes, etc. Overall the ordering process was a sh*t show. Waited 30 minutes to buy wine and was told to pay $10 just to drink on the patio we couldn't find a table at. I then ordered food and they ran out of baguette and without telling me, gave me random other bread without making sure it was okay or if I was allergic. My $14 sandwich almost turned into my throat closing up and my $40 wine was wasted as we had to leave. read more

They have a ton of different selections in condiments to cheeses and even imported sweets! Definitely worth a stop in! I first discovered this place in October when a friend recommended it to me for the free wine tastings from 1pm-4pm on Saturdays. Definitely a great place to start for people who don't know much about wine. They have place cards you can grab that tell you where the wines came from. It's interesting and informative which in my in opinion is a nice touch :) Moving onto the Deli! I've been stuck on their Jamon Serrano & Butter sandwich that has family farmed butter in it! My mouth waters just thinking about how that butter melts in every single bite, yum! The second sandwich I've been ordering non stop is their Caprese sandwich! Don't forget to add Prosciutto for $2.50 more because it truly brings it altogether with their house made mozzarella cheese. Everything is completely fresh, sliced fresh and the sandwich is made right there in front of you. Sounds delicious, huh? :D Once I get unhooked from these two sandwiches, I'll order more from their menu and update :P I love love love this place! Their deli is amazing. The first time I went, I got a sandwich. It was really expensive and really small. I do like that they cut the meats and cheeses for you fresh and charge by weight, but the base premium is super high. My sandwich was $10 and had like one slice of cheese and two slices of meat. It tasted good though; if you're willing to spend that much on a small sandwich, you won't be disappointed! I had been wanting to go back to try the coffee and get some work done because it's a well-lit space and the tables are very spacious. I have to say, though, I was really annoyed by my experience. Here's how the conversation went down: Me: I'll have a drip coffee please Employee: What size? Me: Small. And can I get decaf, please? Emp: Sure! For here or to go? Me: For here I was getting my money out, not really paying attention, and then she brings my mug over and tells the cashier I got a decaf Americano. Me: "Oh, do you not have decaf drip?" Emp: "No, this is an Americano, is that ok?" Me: "Um, yea, that's fine I guess" DO NOT tell me you have decaf coffee and then make me an americano and charge me more for it. I would have gotten caffeinated drip coffee if I would have known. I didn't make a big deal out of it but that is annoying. Just tell me up front. It's only a 25 cent difference but I want to pay for what I ordered. I'll probably still go back someday but it's not at the top of my list. read more

Morgan and York is a solid place if you have disposable income and enjoy the finer things in life. Unfortunately, I am not there yet in life, and a visit to M & Y sucks my money. Staff is super friendly and helpful-- they are very knowledgeable about the products they carry and know much about cheese, wine, and chocolate. Their sandwiches are really tasty. How can it not be? Everything that goes inside of it are very high quality ingredients. However, I probably need 3 to become full, which would run me around $25. One day when I can afford the finer things in life, such as insurance, non-generic medicine, and 6 month dental exams, I will come back to Morgan and York and buy the entire store! read more

I use Morgan & York in a limited way: to get meats & cheeses to nosh on with wine. I can't speak to their other operations but for cheese & meats they are top notch. They know their products, are generous with letting you taste & try things, and make great suggestions. They also have a nice wide selection of options. I have friends who come in to Ann Arbor once or twice a year, and this is one place that is their must-stop. We love zingerman's creamery but there are no meats there (maybe with renovation that will change). Zingerman's on Detroit street has more to choose from but parking is a bear. Total disappointment. The staff could not have been more rude. We were charged $250 to hold a reservation and the place was empty. We we made a complaint we received poor service. When we later made a comment to a manager the reply basically implied they are more concerned with making money then customer service. I'd skip trying this place. read more
