Not a big fan of machanics cause I'm always afraid of them trying to sell me something I don't need. I was having problems with my car and York is located down the street from my parent's house. The lot is always full of cars so I thought this place must be great if they are servicing all these cars. I walked in there and the guy who I beleive was the owner asked how he could help me. He was friendly, funny, an dknew exactly what was wrong with my car when I described my problem. Helped that it was a common thing in Toyotas that he was familiar with. He had my car in and out of there in one day. Pricing was reasonable too. I suggested this place to my parents as well and they received great service from them as well. If I didn't live to far away and my boyfriend wasn't a mechanic himself I would continue to take my car here. I was very happy with my service. read more

Talk about customer service! With very short notice, I arrived at York Auto with an unidentifiable acrid smell in my car that had grown worse over the previous couple days. Although they were booked, the owner himself took the time to check it out, discovered a mouse nest on top of the cabin air filter, then spent 1/2 hour of his lunch time vacuuming the nest to prevent the mice from doing any serious damage to my engine. All for under $70 in materials and labor. It doesn't get any better than that! read more

Had to have a new radiator installed in our 2000 Honda Civic, when the existing one blew unexpectedly. On the positive side about York, they were able to diagnose the problem pretty quickly, and get it repaired in a timely manner. The price was reasonable too. However, within two days of having this work done, we noticed fluid leaking everywhere. Turns out, it was transmission fluid. The mechanic FAILED TO TIGHTEN ALL OF THE HOSES when replacing the radiator! We fixed the car, and I went to speak to York directly, as I felt it was important that they be made aware that this happened. I explained the situation to the gentleman behind the counter, he was nice enough. However, he didn't look up the work order to learn the specifics about the repair. My impression was that he was listening, but once I left, that would be the end of it. I asked that he please look up who the mechanic was that worked on my vehicle. My thought was, if it is someone new, they may want to double check his/her work for a period of time. If it is someone seasoned, they may want to simply give them a heads up. While not dismissive of me, this gentleman just did not seem interested or concerned that this had happened. Tightening hoses during a repair, to me, just seems like mechanics 101. The fact that this was not done , AND that the repair shop was not concerned about it, is enough for me to feel comfortable in saying that I would not recommend taking my vehicle there for repair. read more

We went about 1/2 hr out of our way to take our car to York for repairs after a friend recommended the place. However, once the work was done, even after four attempts we could not get the 7 yr old car to pass DEQ. We checked back with York and brought the car back only to find out they forgot to hook up a certain cable. We were told matter-of-factly that this is what happened, no apology, but instead they told us we would not be charged. I would better hope not! In any other industry a faux pas of this sort would have prompted at the very least an apology, and possibly a "how can I make it up to you?" question, considering the inconvenience this created for us. Not with York. Keys were handed back, here you go. Not even a simple "we're sorry". We are not going back there. read more

I was really disappointed. I had heard they had a great reputation. They said they 'couldn't' fix my truck. Seems more like they didn't want to. They have 2 cars in every bay. Seems like they just want to do fast & easy stuff. When I went to retrieve my truck, it was like a clown show! Everyone running to & fro cuz they couldn't find my key. Why 'AJ' above, living in Lake Oswego would haul his car all the way to Boring is beyond me. He could have travelled 10 minutes to the E end of the Sellwood bridge and found Tom Dwyer Auto, the best mechanic shop in Oregon. That being said, I have taken my car to York a number of times over the last 2+ years (no, I don't live anywhere close to Dwyer, otherwise I'd be at his shop). York's labor prices are reasonable, they attempt to turn the car around promptly (the same day if at all possible) and they are honest (even AJ's review above testifies to their honesty - they could have tried to run some BS by him about forgetting to hook up the hose but they didn't). They are usually very busy, so don't expect to call this morning and get your car in today or even this week. That would be my only gripe, but it is rather silly to whine about a business that is busy. read more

The hardest things to find are a good doctor, a good dentist, and an honest mechanic. York Automotive is a great, honest mechanic. York Automotive was recommended to me by my church pastor. That's a pretty high recommendation. I have tried several mechanics in the area and was never happy with any of them. But since trying out York a couple years ago, I have taken our family vehicles there for everything from minor maintenance to serious repairs and have been very, very satisfied. They strive very hard to make the customer happy, and they do not push more expensive repairs than are needed. I am recommending them far and wide to everyone I know in the area. read more

Sorry to hear you had a negative experience. I wonder if Mr York himself would have handled this much differently than the insensitive jerk who handed the keys back without one word! Bad for Business! We used York for many years as our cars came to the end of their service and York auto told us is time we stop spending good money after bad and suggested we get newer vehicles. Of course we agree'd, then purchased 2 brand new Toyota's and haven't needed anything more than oil changes! BUT...I'd take my work to York any day as he is most honest mechanic around. People are human and sometimes don't do a good job in dealing with people. Perhaps the service monkey handing back the keys either had a bad day or very low IQ! I mean shouldn't be any secret...angry customers equal no returns! No returns equals no business...No business equals NO JOB!' I've taken my personal vehicles and family and business vehicles to Shane at York's for the past seven years. In over 30 separate visits for different and unique problems on all those different vehicles Shane and York's service has been 100+% positive and without equal to other shops I have taken vehicles to prior to using York. They have gone out of their way to identify problems without charge, have ferried me and my vehicles back and forth to my home and literally bent over backwards to make all of my experiences with them excellent. I cannot reccomend a service more highly and would entrust any friend or family vehicle to them without exception. I have also sent several friends there over the years and they too have all experienced excellent service. I feel I know the company well enough to give them the highest rating and wouild reccomend them to anyone. read more

Terrible shop, closed up early and wouldn't help me. Went in because my brake lights were constantly on and while they fixed that in a "jimmy rig" way they messed up my cruise control and now that won't work. I'd recommend going to a different place, don't waste your time. read more

Just spent a large amount of money for a major repair here. First time. I don't know that I will be going back. They raised the estimate on the phone (I had it in writing luckily) by $100, didn't save the old parts like I was asked and said yes, I would like the old parts back. Could only find 4 of my used spark plugs when I was supposed to have ha 6 replaced. The mileage on my invoice was incorrect, which would have documented when this major job was done. Pete runs the show down there, not the owner. There is a trust factor for me....Just didn't get a good feeling AT ALL. read more

We have had our car in 4 times for the same problem. York has repeatedly provided sub-standard customer service and failed to resolve the issue that they were paid to fix. Each time when we returned, we were given no priority or concession, and the repairs took up to three weeks in one case. Additionally, and without exception, every time the car was returned to us, there was something obviously amiss. There were brackets and molding pieces simply left sitting on the floor mats, dash lights disconnected, overdirve and cruise control buttons unhooked, and most recently, brake lights and turn signals disconnected. We will NOT be returning to this establishment in the future, and we would strongly recommend that anyone with a car in need of repair look elsewhere for automotive service. read more

I made my living working for dealers in the service department(25 years) and am now retired due to poor health-not caused by working with cars.I have been in to York twice and was very impressed both times. They are pleasant, efficient and professional with a little down home thrown in, Jennet had her dog sitting on her lap while she was typing up my repair orders,and while I was waiting another customer came in just to show her their new pup.I got to listen to the way they were handling other customers and the usual chatter between boss and employees and it was all extremely polite .They do business just like it used to be back 45 years ago, the prevailing attitude is "take care of the customers and the money will take care of itself", which is how I used to do it, and is how I increased the customer base by 500% in seven years at the first dealership with the help of some excellent parts and service personnel.
