Excellent experience on a early Saturday dinner. Quaint I guess you'd call it, it's got an entrance through a narrow door off the street and a wide old wooden stairwell up to the 2nd and third floors of that historic old building. Hostess service was friendly and helpful. Our waiter Marcos was efficient and friendly. Food was excellent. I had the Massaman curry with tofu and included side salad. Very tasty. Also we had steamed edamame. It's dusted with some house-made Thai spice instead of typical salt. Yummy and a big bowl. My friend had the 'general' sushi roll which contains tuna and salmon. Lastly between the hours of 5-7 they have a food happy hour so there's like 10-15 items that are half price including the aforementioned sushi and edamame. We had been wanting to try this place, last time we came to Wilmington we couldn't get in, so i made sure to make a reservation in advance. The atmosphere and place was great, loved the inside vibe and decor. It is very loud in there so it's difficult to carry on a conversation. The food though was so disappointing. Other than the edamame and firecracker shrimp, it was just so bland. How are these dishes made with no spice or flavor!? The poke bowl was tiny! It will not fill you up. Seriously, Kale Me Crazy's beat this one easily. The "spicy" curry dish wasn't spicy. At all. As someone with a shellfish allergy, sushi places are not my go-to. Yosake was very accommodating for my allergy and has several unique vegetarian rolls (much better than the usual avocado/cucumber at most places)! The place is located upstairs in the historic building. There is a person outside of the building next to the leading staircase who will let you in. Due to COVID-19 to use the elevators, you must wear a mask. If you don't have one on, use the stairs. All the servers will be wearing one at all times, and the tables seemed fairly spread out. I actually prefer this spread out layout since you get some privacy within your group conversations. There is a new happy hour menu which I posted a photo of. If you don't know what to get, I suggest the Generoll and the Bahn Minis (pork)! They were so delicious and filling. When I asked for more ginger, I don't get it on a small ceramic plate that I expected, but the change with the new condition is that the sides came in a plastic to-go container sealed with a lid. It gives a peace of mind that there was minimal contact with the food since it was placed in the container, but hurts my heart to think I'm creating more waste even when I'm dining-in. read more

Yosake is located on the second floor above husk in downtown Wilmington. We ended up arriving right as they opened, and even though we did not have a reservation, they were able, and happy to get our party of four a table. You can tell that they do fill up fast, so if you are going during the evening or a busy weekend, I would make a reservation in advance. They range in various types of asian cuisine. For an appetizer we got the edamame and the Brussel sprouts. The edamame is a hard dish to mess up, and ultimately, our 3 year old devoured most of them before we could eat many. The Brussels were not bad. They were not cooked as much as we normally like, and were a little tough on the inside, but if you got one of the crispy outside pieces it was not too bad. They have various beers and drinks to choose from also, but we opted just for waters since we knew we would be doing a number on our pockets with all the food we were about to get. For an entree, I got the sushi for me. For $26 and 4 rolls, you cannot beat that. It was a Philly roll, spicy tuna (personal favorite), California, and a salmon asparagus roll which was also delicious. My friend got Massaman curry. I came by last night around 9:15 for dinner - the place was packed! We were able to grab seats at the sushi bar - we hadn't been seated there before so that was fun and new! Our server was great and attentive as always. We started off with the bao buns and crab Rangoon flatbread and a house salad. All excellent as per usual. For sushi, my husband got the fire on the mountain (one of this faves) and I noticed the "this is how we roll" on the menu for the first time - this is basically a chef's pick. Our chef made a delicious roll stuffed with lobster and mango, and topped with smoked tuna. It was incredible. They also checked back to ask how we liked it which I appreciated. If you hit this restaurant up on the right nights, it can be an incredible value. The curries and rice bowls are on the money albeit the sushi isn't a home run all the time. Once you find it, you'll realize why it seems to be a favorite of the locals. The access is a bit hidden (it's on the second floor) between two other restaurant fronts. There is a sign on the sidewalk but could be easily passed off as belonging to something else. That's great though as it keeps Yosake from being overrun by tourists walking the street looking for their dinner stop. If you are looking for something with an Asian theme, walk your way up the narrow stairs and prepare to add this place to your normal rotation. read more

Loved coming here when visiting friends in Wilmington! I got the sushi for me and it was PLENTY for one, easily can share with two. Our group loved the chefs special role - they were beautifully crafted. As a group, we started with the crab Rangoon flatbread which simply slapped. we also got Brussels and shrimp. Everything was so good. There was a ~45 min or so delay on the sushi given some delays in the kitchen. The waitress was super communicative and let us know in advance so we were able to put in our orders in earlier instead of waiting after we ordered apps. Gotta give it up to this place. It's a little drive for me but one of my favorite Asian restaurants in Wilmington...they have great authentic specials, really well made go-tos, and they are not afraid to add some spice to their dishes...which I particularly like, despite the fact I sweat from spicy food pretty quickly, the cool staff will bring me extra napkins. The atmosphere is cool, with my only complaint being that is is a little bit cramped, which can make for a lot of noise. I've eaten here...idk, 10-12 times and never been disappointed. They also cook appetizers for special deal days for the husk, which is a bar two stories down...and they are just as good. Genki is the best Asian food in Wilmington, but you will not leave this place disappointed. The food is good, staff is on point, they're always adding new items to the menu, and the food it very good...not too greasy, but not lacking that necessary grease factor either. We came here at 10:00 on Friday night to take advantage of the happy hour prices. We will definitely return! The space is upstairs from The Husk, and is an open, modern space. It was moderately busy, but still very easy to get a table. We each had a sale tasting, which came with three samples and your choice between 5. We ordered the edamame and Brussels sprouts to start. The Brussels sprouts had a lovely sweet but savory sauce on it and was very addicting. Next we ordered the CARP (Cucumber, Avocado, and Red Pepper) roll and the Buddha roll. Both were very good and I'm still thinking of the Buddha roll as it was a great mix of flavors with the pickled vegetables and mustard seeds. Service was friendly and we would definitely go back. I dined at Yo Sake Japanese sushi restaurant with a friend of mine. We sat at the bar to enjoy happy hour from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Good happy hour prices for the food: Spicy crunch tuna roll ($8, regular $14), firecracker shrimp ($7, regular $12), chicken egg rolls, and a Generoll ($8, regular $14). Everything was excellent. I could skip the chicken egg rolls the next time, as they were quite filling.  Also, I would skip the firecracker shrimp. Excellent, but reminded me of bang bang shrimp. Stopped into Yosake for a late dinner after driving into town from RDU. I was a little taken aback by the stairs; from the ground level, it looks like you have to climb up about 100 steps. Fortunately, the entrance to Yosake is on the first landing. It was 80's night, and the playlist was killer. I sat at the bar, and perused the menu. They had some amazing specials; spicy tuna roll was $3! I thought it would be a little half roll at that price; I was pleasantly surprised that it was a full size, 8 piece roll. The seaweed salad (another bargain at $3) was a very plentiful portion. The special shrimp roll was very good as well. I had a 4 oz pour of sake that was fruity and just a bit off-dry; it was a great match for the sushi. The menu also featured hot dishes from the kitchen (curries, teriyaki, noodles, etc.), but all I wanted was the fish. People who ordered the hot food looked happy. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had (or even the best sushi in WIlmington), but for the price, it was a solid option. Recommended. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in town hands down. I like the location because it is downtown and on the second floor. The space is a good size with plenty of seating including bar seating. It is so easy to make a reservation online if you do not want to wait but the wait has never been too long for me. I love how they do happy hour everyday with a lot of goood options to choose from! They also have other specials every night whether it is food or drinks my favorite night is 2 for $20 sushi rolls. The food is always amazing!!
