It has all the convenient that I need with very affordable rate. It is only 40 minutes away from Yosemite entrance. I enjoyed driving there and it has small town vibe and small museum showing Wild West Artifacts of gold miners back then. Two thumps up. read more

Everything after they took my deposit, they denied me staying there because I wasn't an international traveler. I was trying to stay there for this week because I work in a remote area that takes me hours to get to every day and I feel that I was profiled for having tattoos, and when I brought up the fact that they took my deposit he offered no help no information even though the place was completely empty not one single bed rented. They still denied me. The place is a shit hole and the person working. There was very rude. Tentatively, I'd say it was just fine. But here are the deets: I didn't stay in the main complex and what you'd think of as a traditional hostel. In addition to the bright yellow building and surrounding area, they also have a small white house in a dirt road across the street. I can confidently say that they're not spending a lot of money (read: any) on painting the outside of the house, or landscaping, or really anything on the exterior. It's a little dilapidated but seemed structurally sound. We decided last minute to stop and rest here for the night instead of pushing on to Yosemite or to any of the campgrounds along the way. The hotel in town had one room left at $194/night, so we came here and paid $100 for one room in the white house. It was upstairs, and when we arrived it was near 3000 degrees up there. Luckily (?) the room is tiny an has its own air conditioning unit, so we cranked it, left for dinner, and when we returned it was down around 74 degrees. Not bad. There were two twin beds, and that's about it. The house has two bathrooms--a makeshift one upstairs in the attic/crawlspace under a short angled ceiling that just has a toilet, and one downstairs with the full shower. The mattress and linens weren't bad. Not luxurious, a little crisp, but clean and nice. The house could really be pretty rad if they put a lot of money into it, but that's now what they're after. It's not been restored, more like... they've slapped on a little makeup. It's covered in linoleum made to look like wood flooring, but they sub floor is in atrocious shape and it won't be long until the uneven surface causes cracking. It's not really laid well--just cut into approximate shapes and stapled to the floor. The shower had next to no water pressure, and both bathrooms had signs asking not to flush toilet paper in the toilet. I imagine the plumbing was not updated, and even though they seem quite proud of the Wifi all over, it was suuuuper slow, and almost unusable in the room. YMMV. Still, it's a working house with a few rooms. It has a kitchen and a front porch, and for the life of me, I have no idea what that small outbuilding next to it was. It has some kind of running water in it, perhaps a spring of some kind that's piped up. But it's all covered up and just confounding. Look, this is a hostel. Or, more like an Airbnb where you just get a room. And speaking of, had we known we were going to stay here, we could have found much much better accommodations on Airbnb for less money. But you know, you want to sleep, they have beds, and to get a place on a moment's notice for a hundred bucks in peak season was just fine. A good night's rest and we were off to Yosemite. read more

Clean and comfortable place, good amenities (bring your own towels, cooking items, and cutlery as due to covid they are not supplying them. Owner was very kind with our last minute stay. Close to the YART bus to Yosemite. 4 stars rather than 5 because of the steep price (albeit cheaper than any other lodging you'll find in Groveland). read more

After getting a late start, I was hoping to find a room at the first place I could get one and ended up at Yosemite International Hostel just after 9pm on a very chilly October night! The room was basically clean - with spotless linens circa 1968 (I know this based on the pillowcases, at least -- matching one that I have from my childhood!). The room smelled awfully like insect spray though. I did check the bed and didn't find signs of bed bugs so I stayed. The whole place was toasty warm - the bathroom was pretty heavily trafficked though. The kitchen has no consumables like napkins or paper towels to clean up spills (be warned!). Bring your own towel, too! read more

Stayed in this place September of 2019 with 2 other friends. After staying 2 nights I had a skin reaction with the bed bugs. Bed sheets were old and worn down and for sure they don't disinfect beds after hikers and travelers sleeps in overnight. It's almost a given that the hikers will bring some kind of ticks and bugs, I am hoping I don't catch Lyme disease. I will be seeing my doctors this week. This place needs to be shut down and get evaluated by department of health. read more

I honestly don't get some of the complaints here. I went here with friends, 11 of them to be exact. There's everything you could ask for here. A fridge, oven, utencils, microwaves, tables, and much more. All of these were clean and we had no issues whatsoever even thought we used them a LOT. I understand that the more people you have, the better experience you have due to just the amount of beds there are and the money you save. But even if u do go with only 3-4 friends, i think itd be just as worth it. My friends and I are planning to go here next year, and we plan to only have around 5-6. Overall, great place with no complaints. read more

Yah it is what it is! We were last minute in the area grabbing a room before heading into the park for a camping trip. Hotels seemed booked up and expensive, and we were so tired from a crazy week we just booked something so we could eat. I would have preferred the regular hostel vibe I think, it's more social and cheaper. We got a private room in a creepy old building across the street and up the hill that they manage as part of the hostel when folks book private rooms. This was midsummer, and our room was a bazillion degrees. A wildly noisey small AC unit was provided which helped when we weren't in the room. Couldn't really keep it on when we were in the room without danger to our hearing/sanity. Wifi was fine. Walking distance to the bars and pizza place and other good restaurants. The young gents managing the place were super nice and chill, and I wish them all the best. read more

This was the best Hostel experience I've ever had. There are COVID-19 repercussions such as the kitchen being closed, hand sanitizer available etc. The staff (Rex) was very friendly, gave us great advice on tips and hikes for Yosemite as well as how to use the Yarts bus system in order to get into the park. The hostel it self was clean, cozy and has a great outdoor seating area. The Hostel is close proximity to the park. 10/10 recommend. Clean, cheap and very welcoming hostel for younger folks in funny little cowboy village right next to Yosemite :) Got here at night after a long trip in Yosemite and Gabriel, the receptionist welcomed us and gave us rooms to a 12 dorm. He was super friendly and helpful! Hostel itself is clean. We went to this pub in town which was hilarious. Live band playing acdc which was really good.. Stayed until like 1.30 am because we had soo much fun.. Coffee and Pancakes in the morning! :) it is very close to Yosemite (to Yosemite Valley or also Merced Grove). Be sure to bring cash as the credit card machine is still broken. I don't usually carry cash but between the 3 of us, we were able to come up with enough money for our 2 night stay. The bathroom was dirty and even though I said something each day to someone at the desk, it was never cleaned (hair everywhere and footprints on floor). Our bathroom was used by the 12 in our dorm room and for others not in our room. On one night, 8 people (not from our dorm) came in and showered between midnight and 5:30am) and 4 people (not from our dorm) used the toilet. Since there is no door on the sleeping room, our room was lighted every time someone turned on the light. I got up 3 times to turn off the light and one of the ladies in the room also got up. NOT a restful sleep. Our kitchen was also poorly stocked and had a broken stove. The other dorm room had a functional stove but broken fridge. The guests we met were awesome and this redeemed our time at this poorly run hostel. read more

Not the best hostel I've stayed at but it was cheap, accommodating, and in a cute town. It was 1 hr and 20 mins away from Yosemite village, which wasn't very convenient, but you do get to see the north west side of Yosemite. The hostel did not have lockers, so not very secure. Don't bring valuables in. The houses looked cute on the outside but need significant upkeep. Definitely recommend if you want to explore Yosemite on a budget and don't want to camp out. Great way to meet travelers from everywhere, but you must be ok to share a space with random strangers lol read more

I've stayed at many US hostels and never have I been to one so gross and poorly run. The only thing I liked about this hostel is that it's an hour away from Yosemite, (which was the closest lodging we could get last minute). The ladies dorm doesn't have a door. My dorm mates were quiet but on the other side of that door way was a common kitchen, a bathroom and two private rooms that had men in them! The bathroom was very hairy and gross. Each morning I went to the front desk and asked for it to be cleaned and not once in three days did it get cleaned. I believe there are four buildings who share only two toilets and 2 showers. There are two kitchens but one kitchen has a working stove but a broken fridge and the other kitchen has a broken stove but a working fridge. Cooking was unenjoyable as there wasn't enough dishes even for just the three of us. There were signs that said to clean up after yourself unless you like cockroaches. I didn't see any bugs but I did wash everything before using it. Staying in the little house that had the ladies dorm was loud because people kept taking showers all night and early in the morning. I was embarrassed to have rented this place for my mom and my friend who's visiting from England. I kept apologizing to both of them and saying American hostels that I've stayed at in the past were never this gross. read more

This hostel really exceeded our exceptions. Not one for usually staying in hostels after a long day in Yosemite this was a great place to stop for the night on the way back to SF. Loads of parking at the hostel. Grooveland is a lovely town with quite a few good restaurants and a great mini mart. 4 of us had a private room with a twin bed and bunk beds. Shared bathrooms where clean but there was quite a wait outside to shower. We were in the yellow cabin which was quite noisy at night. Overall a good stay. read more

Due to car trouble, we got stuck in Groveland overnight and had to find the cheapest hotel. After being majorly sketched out by the Groveland Motel (that's another story), we were so happy to come across this hostel. It's not cheap by hostel standards (about $35 for a dorm bed), but it is cheap by Groveland standards. I especially appreciated the clean linens and convenient lockers. But the place isn't without its flaws: 1) one bathroom for about 10 guests. Not a good situation. I think I had to wait about an hour to go to the bathroom in the morning, because there was a parade of other guests who all wanted to shower. 2) To get between the porch and the kitchen, one must walk through the room with all the beds. And when I say "one", I really mean "drunk people at 2am". Overall, the Oso Hostel makes the most of what it has (a converted 1BR house, I think?). And definitely fills a niche in Groveland for low-budget travelers. read more

My first stay in a hostel and I have to say it was a good one! We got a private room with two twin beds and we shared a bathroom with another room that was downstairs with us. Welcoming staff, clean bathroom and kitchen... It is an older ranch style home from 1800s so it was creepy... I slept with the lights on. read more

My 2 girlfriends and I stayed here for 3 nights when we went to Yosemite, in the 10 bed room. Installations are OK. The inside of the cabins are clean (bathrooms and bedrooms) but lots of spiderwebs on the outside. The beds are not the most comfortable and very few bathrooms for the amount of people staying there. The staff was nice and helpful and location was very good since it had several food options in the area. If there's little traffic it takes around one hour to get to the Yosemite Valley.The rooms can be very noise due to cars driving by. The temperature was ok, maybe a little on the warmer side. I would recommend calling if you are checking-in late and bringing earplugs and eyeshades to get a better sleep. Good place to stay for the price (~$38 per person a night), especially in high season. read more

The kind of hostel where every penny is saved on maintenance. Everything had something broken. There are showers/toilets in half the buildings, meaning you have to walk to the toilet outside at night. Not all have lids/levers though so stick your hand in the flusher and fumble a bit to make it work. The beds are clean. read more

I'm not the type to leave negative reviews over petty things, but... For starters, the receptionist was not fluent in English, making the following issues more complicated than they should have been. The credit card machine wasn't functioning properly so we had to pay cash. We paid for a 6 person room since we had 6 people with us, and at first she gave us a key to the 12 person dorm, after explaining we reserved the 6 person room she put us in an 8 person room, but it had no door.... The only good thing about this experience is the bar down the street that was full of townies and was hilarious. I would only stay here again if every other place was around Yosemite was booked. read more

I reserved a "private room" for one night. Little did I know that the extra $52 beyond the cost of a bed in the dorm was for nothing more than a door between our room and the dorm; my friend and I would still have to share the single tiny bathroom with up to 8 dorm guests and 4 guests in other private rooms. Nothing on their website made that clear. They also offer a private suite for 4 and a luxury suite for 2; for all I know, they share that same bathroom (again, their website doesn't indicate). 14-20 people sharing a single bathroom? No thanks! The room itself was shabby, not clean and shiny as shown in the photo on the web. I expected a step down from Motel 6 but not just one step up from sleeping on a park bench. We chose not to stay. I can't recommend the place unless you truly have no choice. read more
