My wife and I visited the drive-through at the Yoshinoya on Valley Boulevard in Fontana around 1:30 AM this morning (October 19, 2025). We had spent the entire day at the hospital and were emotionally drained, as we had just had to say goodbye to a beloved family member. My wife was particularly sad, but she requested a Yoshinoya bowl because it was a comforting meal that reminded her of her late uncle. The crew member who took our order and served us at the window was exceptional. From the moment she spoke, she was incredibly polite, respectful, and humble. When we approached the window, she genuinely asked how our day was. Sharing our difficult story--and seeing my wife tearful--the employee showed immense sympathy. We were unable to concentrate enough to ask for essential items, but this amazing employee had already prepared everything. Our bag contained all the necessary soy sauce, hot sauce, napkins, and utensils. She pointed to the bag and simply said, "Everything's in the back. You have a blessed day and a wonderful day. We're so sorry for your loss." Her genuine empathy made a terrible day instantly better. However, the final, most touching gesture came when we got home. As we removed our food, something fell out of the bag: a cookie with a handwritten message on it. The note read: "You guys have a wonderful day. God bless you. Everything's gonna be OK." My wife and I were moved to tears by this completely unexpected act of human compassion. We don't even know the name of this crew member, but her humbleness, sympathy, and genuine desire to bring a moment of light to strangers during their darkest time are an absolute credit to the Yoshinoya crew. We want to express our deepest gratitude and respect for this entire team. This crew member didn't just serve us a meal; she gave us a moment of warmth and hope. Had my nurse go pick it up our order and two of our combo bowls received half habanero chicken and was dry as hell. spoke with Carrie and told her what had happened and will have my nurse go back tomorrow and get a replacement. Orders are super quick and ready in 10-15 minutes. I also picked up the clam chowder that's thicker these days, 8 piece crunchy shrimp tempura, chicken, Tokyo fried chicken 5 pc, and a large mango black tea. Don't forget to order FREE BROTH in person or in the app. Makes for a great dip or a sipping soup with your meal. I go here once every week or two. read more

Anyway, Yoshinoya is a decent little fast food spot, usually get myself all chicken and rice, along with the red peppers. Don't spend any money here unless you are cashing out on a good coupon. I used to come here A LOT up until like a year ago... so revisiting today was a real upset. Earlier I would have rated this location a 4-5 star place, simply because the food and the staff have always been great at a nice quiet restaurant. However, lately the bowl size has changed. No more white and orange styrofoam bowl with the Yoshinoya name in it... What you get now is a simple black bowl (smaller in size) with a clear plastic cover on top. Less rice and less beef. You get a nice portion of oxygen served with the lesser amount of food you would expect to get. I call it down-sizing America. Unfortunately, although smaller portions are dished up for you the price has not changed. So in reality you pay more for less which is a rip off unless maybe you have a BOGO free coupon to add more bang to your buck. Moreover, I have been seeing less and less Yoshinoya coupons appear in the mail. Happy to burst your bubble on the updated trend of food proportions here at Fontana Yoshinoya. More items were added to the menu and their signature beef , which is my favorite had been so scarce per serving. We came today for dinner and I ordered the COMBO XL. Funny that the beef was very small amount that it just covered the seem like a pound of rice to make it an XL ? Chicken slices were not as many as they used to. They run out of table napkins !!!! You charged me an extra $1.50 for the teriyaki rib eye but the amount of protein seems to get smaller and smaller. Both orders are like that.
