This was our second time here for breakfast. We had gravy and biscuits and it was pretty good. Our server was good.

Took the whole family to Youngblood's Cafe for an early lunch on my daughter's birthday. We were seated right away, the waitress was quick to check in and get us drinks. They have a good variety of breakfast and dinner, but we chose dinner meals - a taco salad (there was as much meat as lettuce, which is great), a club sandwich with homemade chips, a Davis burger with fries (homestyle shoestrings, not too greasy, and perfectly salted), chili cheese fries (it says XL, but the plate was enormous), chicken strips, and a Mattie Pattie with fries. My only complaint about the food was that the Mattie Pattie was not a better version of a Pattie Melt, it was bland (on wheat bread without any sauce). The service was fair, we waited awhile for drink refills, but extra condiments came right out with no extra charge. And the prices overall are great, just over $10 a person on average. The dining area is large and open but the fun decor makes it feel comfortable. Youngblood's is definitely a place we'll visit again. read more

I've been here three times now. The first time I just needed a place to grab a quick bite after going to the Amarillo Museum downtown and finding that they were closed for lunch. I called the number, talked to the lady that owns the museum, and she recommended Youngblood's so I went there. I had a great meal. I was very impressed and hoped to make it back. I came a second time a few weeks later and had another good meal. I'm going to have to look at my pictures to remember what I had, but I'm pretty sure it was pork chops one time and catfish another time. Yesterday morning I came here for the third time because I was in the mood for breakfast and so many places stop serving it at 10:30 that I was tickled pink to find that they serve it until they close. I was less tickled when I saw on the menu that you have to pay a dollar more for breakfast if you come after 11 and that the senior breakfast isn't available after 11. Since I'm not a morning person I pretty much never get out before 11 so I guess I'm SOL on that one. The breakfast itself was very good but not spectacular. People talk about huge portions and I remember getting very generous portions when I was here before but the breakfast was just a normal size like everybody serves. I didn't realize they had grits till after I got my food or I might have asked if I could get grits instead of the hash browns. The hash browns had great flavor but I wish I had remembered to ask them for extra crispy because they weren't very crisp. However, I'd rather take good tasting soft hash browns over crisp hash browns that have a funny odd oil flavor any day. The bacon was nice and thick and they give you three pieces which was nice, cook perfectly. My 2 eggs over easy we're cooked perfectly also. There's a reason why this place is so popular with the locals. Good food and good service. Maybe I'll get lucky and make it back for lunch again sometime before I leave town. read more

You have got to try the chicken fried steak here once... I was told to try it and the only time I could was at 10:00am. Have you ever had a chicken fried steak for breakfast? Extremely busy, yet prompt and delicious. Good service, ample portions, and reasonable pricing. Passing through on a road trip, we stopped in based on reviews. You can tell this is a local favorite hangout, and we can understand why. We will be back when we pass through in the future. read more

The service here was amazing! I forgot my server's name but she was as sweet as pie - honestly, everyone was the moment we walked through the door. My sub-par review is because of 2 things: - my friend said her burger needed some seasoning (granted, they give you S & P at the table but still - sometimes you want the seasoning cooked INto the meat) - they don't use real butter!!! Maybe it's a cost thing, but the only thing the oatmeal was missing was the real butter taste. Lastly, their sweet iced tea will cause kidney failure in large quantities, so drink it. This feels like a timeless, casual eatery where the locals gather. We had the Senior Special breakfast at 10 am. It was just fine: eggs, hash browns, biscuits & gravy and sausage or bacon. The place has tables & booths well-spaced out; the decor featured lots of ironwork, and our server was great. Stopped by for a late breakfast on a Saturday morning. I ordered the two egg breakfast with sausage. It comes with two eggs, choice of meat, hashbrowns and a choice of toast, biscuits n gravy or pancakes. Nothing special with the meal. I opted for the biscuits n gravy and the biscuits were really dry. Also, if you order breakfast after 11a it'll cost you a dollar extra. Why does it cost more to cook breakfast after 11a? You also lose the pancake option after 11a. read more

Youngblood's Cafe is a hidden gem about a block from my mother and father's house in Amarillo, Texas. My dad and I went there one morning for breakfast and enjoyed every bit of it. It's a homely spot where everyone feels welcome. The wait staff were inviting as well as the bussers. All the way through check out, service was amazing. We checked out Youngblood's Cafe because it was mentioned by Texas blogger the Day Tripper, who travels all over Texas in search of hidden gems. I have to say this place lived up to the hype. We were all pleased by the service and food. Walking into Youngblood's Cafe makes you feel as if you've stepped into a true Texan eatery. Kitschy Texas decor is everywhere and you know a restaurant is good when the place is packed. We arrived around lunch, we were seated right away, and the food arrived almost immediately after we placed our order. I had the Cajun style grilled catfish and I was happy with the level of heat and flavor. My meal came with a choice of soup or salad and I opted for the soup of the day - Navy bean soup, which was delicious! Other dishes ordered were the chicken fried chicken and Vicki's Chicken Fried Steak. I have to say, I was curious about tasting Vicki's Chicken fried steak because green chili sauce + gravy sounded strange (never had chicken fried steak this way before) and I was really surprised how wonderful it tasted. I would definitely recommend this dish! And finally, as we were finishing up our meal, a server carrying a huge platter of banana pudding dishes swung by our table and asked us if we wanted dessert. Went by at 10:30am today. Was sat in the big room which was completely empty, I was the only one in there. Not sure why I wasn't sat in the sample room which actually had customers in it. I sat for more than 10 minutes with no server, no water, no coffee, no one came by after the hostess sat me. I could see a gander of employees standing around in a circle talking in the kitchen. Made eye contact and tried waiving a server but she kept looking away after I would try and signal her. Owners must not have been around or maybe they just don't care about their business. If I caught any of my employees treating customers like that they would be out the door! I used to come here for business lunches all the time, usually 1-2 times a week. That's going to stop. We were looking for a local restaurant for breakfast. We were staying in Amarillo on our way to a vacation on New Mexico. We looked up on the iPhone map at random and saw this one had a four stars out of five rating. Well, after eating here we think it should be five stars out of five. The service was great. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Food was excellent. Delicious. My wife and her sister split an omelette and I had the huevos rancheros. Both were great. Too much food for a business lunch. Of course, I ate it all. Had "Vicki's Special" - chicken friend steak with a mild green chile sauce, gravy and cheese. It was great, although after watching some friends eat the fried pork chops and the bacon wrapped meatloaf, i'm not sure who had the best meal. I'll try the meatloaf next time. Everything really is better with bacon! Our waitress was great. Putting up with a table of 20 with seperate checks has got to be a work-out. read more
