My first experience with Delvin's was roughly 8-10 years ago when my aunt decided to order their food for Thanksgiving. I remember it being very delicious. One thing of note was that it was my first time eating sweet potato casserole. One bite and I was instantly hooked. Today my wife and I decided to eat here for lunch. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. She picked the sausage and brisket with sweet potato casserole and greens while I chose the jalapeño sausage with brisket, beans, and potato salad. The beans were DELICIOUS! While everything on my plate was top notch, my wife can attest to just how much raving I did about those baked beans. We ended up sharing a few bites of each others food and I had some of her sweet potatoes. This little family place is a hidden gem in Amarillo. Came here on a recommend from a co-worker. The barbecue ribs are amazing, people asked where I got them when I reheated my leftovers at work and they smelled the smoky aroma. I got the sweet potato casserole and greens mix as sides. Don't know what the handful of whiners ate but this is the best BBQ I've had in North Texas. The brisket was superbly smoked with just the right amount of chew and zero pot-roasty dryness. Ribs were beautifully cooked as well. If I have a modest complaint it's that everything needs more seasoning (salt and black pepper in abundance !). I also prefer my sausage less finely ground, though I know that's not the Texas way. Sides I had (beans and corn) were solid (if not earth shattering). People were delightful, place is cute, and I'll always try to time my trips through Amarillo so I can come back. Oh, I forgot: $20 for a 3-way meat combo with two sides? Man, that's a bargain, particularly since it's enough for two medium eaters (particularly since as I've gotten older I can't wolf down 20oz of bbq anymore). Definitely go if you get the chance. Best barbecue I have ever eaten. I thought I would lead with that in case you are just scrolling by. We had the ribs and the jalapeño sausage. The ribs were so tender that the meat pulled right off the bone. It had a great char and the sauce was on point. The sausage was tender and bursting with flavor. The sides command just as much attention on the plate as the meat. The Mac and cheese was comforting and the sweet potato casserole was dessert on a plate. The twice baked potatoes were loaded with yummy toppings and the baked beans were delicious. I wish I had room for a slice of buttermilk pie, but I will save that for next time. Came here because we wanted to have bbq in Texas and followed Yelp! Their website said they weren't open on Saturday. I'm glad I called! We came thinking we weren't very hungry so 3 would share the fried catfish, and a combo ribs and brisket. So here are some of the home run hits: Staff: so friendly and welcoming! Catfish: wow. Crispy, perfectly cooked, great tartar sauce. So good that after we shared our dish, we had to order another platter and gobbled that down too! Cabbage and greens: cooked until silky smooth and just delicious Sweet potato casserole: could have had that for dessert--although not too sweet. Had a crunchy crust that just made it all mouthalicious. Ribs: fall off the bone and juicy I don't even love barbecue that much but I do love sides! Good down home cooking! Greeted with smiles and Come on in! Family run Cafe. It is a BBQ place in North Amarillo, not to far off the interstate. Well worth drive for good home, family run business, but so much more! Weekly specials are posted and are amazing the few we had had! We ALWAYS get their BBQ. Usually @ 11 or 1pm. we try to go. We (seniors) Gotta beat the crowd or come after rush time. You walk up to the order desk and two beautiful gals are there just smilin' and helping the people ahead of us. You gotta look at the menu wall it is full of great options. From BBQ to sandwiches, to salads to Baked Potatos. Good hardy portions. Their best veggies we always get are sweet potato casserole and cabbage and greens. So good!!! It is always clean, or tables being cleaned fast. Good service, they come around often with smiles and laughter! Nicely decorated! But not fancy! It is a working persons restaurant. Best family decision, ever! as we drive up Delvin's parking lot, you can see bbq smoke up in air and as we got out of the car, it smelled like home. We get inside straight to the counter and ordered our food. $14 half slab of ribs is a huge order for me.. I was full with 3 pieces of ribs. The sweet potatoes casserole and gabbage/beans sides were the best tasting sides I've had. My kids loves their ribs! the hubs ordered tri tip plate and he loved it! Customer service is top notch! Driving from Phoenix to Little Rock, we found this gem of a restaurant. Wow...portions are generous, the service was outstanding, and the food was DELICIOUS! I mean, the baked potato was the size of my head, folks, and topped with smokey brisket. The cabbage and greens were a hit. This places was kinda lackluster after hearing all the hype about this place being the best in Amarillo. Lacked flavor, I don't know how someone in the kitchen though that burnt fried chicken was edible. Maybe I'm not used to their barbecue sauce or it was just off today. I enjoyed the sides more than the entrees Except the Mac n cheese, this tasted worse than the Mac n cheese I remember from elementary school. Although the green beans could used a little more seasoning and the cabbage and greens were a little too sweet. I spent like $66 because I couldn't decide what I wanted and I wanted to try a little of everything. I should have stuck to one thing. My sister and I stopped here while driving from Los Angeles, CA to Chicago, IL and we were not disappointed! In addition to the great pricing, the quality of the food was amazing. I ordered a two meat plate (ribs and dark meat chicken) with a side of macaroni and potato salad while my sister ordered a 1 meat plate (white chicken) with a side of cabbage and corn. We also got extra sides of cornbread muffins x2 and sweet potato casserole. All of this for like $24. We called in our order ahead and it was ready when we got there about 15 minutes later. I saw this place when I was driving by and made a mental note to look it up on Yelp, which I did later and was impressed with their reviews. I saw that they didn't have a photo yet so I took a photo of the exterior the next time I was in the area. I finally ate there and was highly impressed. The food was delicious and the people were super friendly. The guy even gave me a free piece of cake when he found out it was my first time there. They give you a good size meal helping so I was able to easily bring home half of it for lunch the next day. Everything looked clean and pleasant on the inside. I had gotten the greens and cabbage as one of my sides and it was so darn delicious I ordered an extra side to take with me because I ate it all in the restaurant. I got back a couple weeks later and tried something different and it was also delicious. When you order the sweet potatoes as a side it's such huge amount you can't even eat it in one sitting. And it was very sweet so it could easily qualify as a dessert. Their prices are reasonable for what they give you. I was lucky to have time to get back a third time before I left town. I sure wish there was a place like this in the area of where I live. I would definitely be a regular. I have highly recommended them to all my friends and relatives in this area also.
