First of all, the website shows a beautiful storefront salon with great reviews as of June 2024, when the site was updated. Beware, you are going to a private home and it is nothing like the salon pictured. Young explained that she moved out of her storefront salon. So the website is deceiving and raises some red flags because it does not represent her place of business. Young seems very sweet. She prides herself on her years of being a seamstress with 40 years experience. However, in my opinion, her workmanship is inadequate for her claim of 40 years. She does offer to redo anything if you are unhappy or unsatisfied BUT if I got a bad haircut, I would not return out of a lack of trust so why would I go back to her? All of my items had to be redone. I have sewing experience and I know what is professional and what is not: I'm not going to go into specifics but I certainly expected better for someone with 40 years experience. I took my items to another seamstress who was angry when she saw the work done and the astronomical price I was charged. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

I needed last min major alterations, I'm talking 24 hour turn around for my dress and I was happy and impressed with the young dress maker's work, professionalism and courtesy! I needed the dress to be sized down 1 size, Spaghetti straps removed, cut the long tail, restitch the bottom and use the materials to add short sleeves so that I can wear off the shoulder! I was worried about finding someone that can make it happen within 24 hrs! And she didn't even get on me for coming last min! I paid $500 for her services, but now it appears that my dress has been butchered. I no longer have confidence in her services and do not recommend them. She suggested I get down on the ground to inspect the dress, which is not a reasonable request. She wanted to cut the actual gown. That would make it much shorter. I wanted my dress to be even, but it seems that was not a priority. She also claimed it was part of the bustle, but in reality, it was the front and side of my dress. I came here to have my mother's wedding dress changed into a top and skirt for my own wedding. She basically told me I shouldn't do it because I'm too big, so I agreed to have her change the dress by making it shorter. Instead of waiting until I tried it on, she cut out a large portion of the bodice then tried to sew it back in, essentially ruining it. Finally, she made it into two pieces AFTER CHARGING MORE when all she had done was ruin it. The end result I was given was two inches two big in the waist and top (didn't even have to unzip the top to get it on), stitching was unraveling, looked completely unfinished. I was charged $475 overall and the dress had to be taken to someone else to be redone. The person that actually did all the work to the dress and fixed everything she messed up charged a fraction of what she did. I would recommend going anywhere else. She is terrible. read more

I was really surprised at some of the reviews because she did an amazing job. And fast-she had all three dresses done in five days. She was very expensive though. I went to Young's Dressmaker to find alterations for a dress and some pants to be custom fit for an upcoming occasion. The owner did such amazing work and even though they were clearly busy- they still found plenty of time for me to get a custom fitting work and have a couple sessions where we made sure everything was perfect. The quick turnaround was truly impressive and I couldn't believe how professional everything came out. When I came to pick up the clothes it was nicely packaged and ready to go. The business owner was extremely pleasant and easy to work with. I learned that she's been doing this for about 40 years and was truly impressed. She showed me some of the work she's been able to do. I saw many of the wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses and others that were so beautiful. Looking forward to coming back and highly recommend Young's Dressmaker to anyone! read more

I had a large quilt / comforter that got damaged in my dryer and looking for someone to repair the damaged part instead of buying a new one. Young's Dressmaker repaired the damage very quickly and expertly. She removed only as much of the damaged part as necessary, saving the great majority of the comforter for me to use again. This was my first time having a dress altered. I found Young on yelp and decided to give her a try seeing that I only needed the dress to be taken in to fit my frame. Young did a horrible job on my dress. She did not agree with how I wanted MY dress to fit and gave me a hard time with taking it in enough to satisfy MY likings. We went back and forth with alterations in which she did a horrible job in stitching it. The seams were uneven, you could tell where she re-stitched the fabric, the needle she used was too big and pulled the material on my dress, and the drawstring on the side no longer worked after she was done. I had to take my dress to another seamstress AND pay an additional $60 on top of the $60 I paid Young. When I called to inform her of my issues, she was very rude and unaccommodating. She kept telling me to bring her my dress to fix but there was no way I was trusting her to fix it when she carelessly handled it in the first place. The seamstress I took my dress to so that it can be fixed, told me it was the worse job they've seen in a while. When I pay for a service, I expect the person providing the service to put effort into and care about the work they do, Young did not. read more

I called to ask for a quote on hemming a pair of dress pants and I was told it would be 15 or 20 dollars. I asked one time what the factors were to result in the $5 difference, the person on the phone refused to tell me. I said "Ok" intending to move on and then they said it's just $5 and hung up on me. I can't not praise Young enough! She is absolutely amazing and is the most talented seamstress I've been to. Here's my story: I was standing up in a wedding on Saturday. My clear stupidity lead me to a late realization on the Tuesday before, that my dress needed to be taken in around the waist and bust. Previously, I had convinced myself the dress was fine with a little extra room, boy was I wrong. The bone of the dress hung down kinda low and it was more obvious than I had initially realized. Everyone told me I was out of luck and that it couldn't be done in time for the wedding. I was also told I would be spending a fortune on it because of the rush fee. I was beyond lucky to find the miracle seamstress Young. Not only did she have the dress ready in less than 24 hours, but she did NOT charge me a rush fee, in fact, the charge was a quarter of what I was expecting based on other places. I didn't realize how beautiful my dress was until after she perfectly tailored it to me. What to expect when you meet her: she is the sweetest woman! Absolute kindness with a strong passion for exceeding your needs. She also designs and makes dresses, which are just so gorgeous. Save your self time! Overpriced and really bad job done. My dress was ruined. September 2, I took my bridesmaids dress and a very expensive suit. One my dress was not to what I asked. She changed the tulle on the v so you wouldn't see my boobs! She kept trying to cover my dress after telling her to please keep the original design. I noticed the stitching was also not done right. I told her in person and asked to be fixed. I didn't think of trying the dress again because it was a simple fix nothing major. I didn't double check the stitching because she is suppose to be professional. Well was I wrong. She ruined my dress after paying $250 to get it altered and customize to my body. The stitching is coming undone. My boobs look like cones bc of the way she did the job. May I say it did not look this way the day prior of me trying it on the 17th. I picked up the dress on the 18th of September. There are holes on the dress that were created by unstitching where she did. I Called her on the 24th not even a week and she dined doing a bad job even though I sent pictures no apologies no response. Its Sep 24th I need the dress for a wedding like in 5 days and I'm in a different state for the wedding. I had to pay someone else more money to fix it. Even the lady told me the job was awful and not worth $250 Not only does she do a bad job but super rude. She had the audacity to tell me something about my body! I had a child a year ago!!! My husband suit is also coming undone (stitching) no I will not take it back to her, I want my husband to actually have a suit. We paid $150.00 for his job jacket and trouser. Do your homework! The dress fits like a glove and will look beautiful at the wedding. I will say this was an interesting experience. Her price was fair for alterations on my daughter's prom dress, but could not add corset as we wanted. Instead added straps with sequins that did not match. Also keep insisting on taking length off for the straps. Dress was too short, didn't use what she cut off and the sequins looked cheap. We chose Young after reading several great reviews, and entrusted her to alter my mother's handmade bridal dress for my own wedding. Unfortunately, we cannot leave a good review after seeing the quality of work she did on our precious family keepsake. Young had 10 months to alter the dress, but was still making finishing touches, such as adding lace to the back, up until 1 week prior. At the final fitting, hems had been left unfinished, there were long loose threads on the bottom of the dress, and she was unable to get to some of the additional alterations she had originally promised (starching the collar lace and adding lace there). More worryingly, the fine overlay for the dress was left fraying along the inner seams, compromising the long-term durability of the dress. While Young is a lovely person herself and it seems like she does some great work on prom dresses, etc., I would think twice about entrusting any of your more precious keepsakes to her. read more

Not only did she not do it she made other alterations to my dress, that I didn't ask for or need, and wanted to charge me for it. She only my gave me half of my money back and my dress is ruined. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt especially in these times but need to express my concern for my experience with Young's Dressmaker. I dropped my bridesmaid dress off to be tailored and picked it up a week later. It is a velvet material but all that needed to be done was a couple inches hemmed up on the bottom. When I was told the price would be $100 I thought that was very high considering my sister took the same dress to be hemmed in the city and it only cost her $50. I agreed because I didn't have time to go anywhere else and I know businesses are struggling these days. I picked up my dress and brought it straight home because I had another wedding to go to. When I went to look at the hem the next day I was appalled. She hadn't even trimmed the bottom... it was folded up a couple inches and lightly hand stitched with huge stitches. I tried the dress on with my shoes and it kept getting caught on the open stitching. I called her to see what her reasoning was for using this loosely of a stitch and not trimming the fabric and was going to ask her to fix it but she didn't answer and still has not returned my voicemail. I would not use this service again and would highly suggest going to someone else and getting a verbal recommendation as opposed to me who found this place through Yelp! read more

Very disappointed in the quality of work and how the alterations turned out. I brought two dresses to be altered into V neck (one was a scoop neck no lining, the other a traditional sheath with lining). My mom used to perfectly alter and make clothes professionally but since she is no longer able to, I came to Young in hopes of a professional job. The sheath dress had an uneven V neck (the V went off to the side), she used BLUE thread on a BLACK dress, thick stitching from the edge was visible once the dress was on and the stitching was not even on both sides (one was higher than the other) and when I moved in the dress, the cheap fabric she used on the underside inched out out. She didn't even sew it in place or remove the original lining before cutting the dress. I told her I was very unhappy and this was not professional work. She ruined my dress! The scoop neck dress did not turn out as we discussed. For a scoop neck, the collar needs to be lifted with a seam ripper before cutting the fabric then once the V is established, the collar of the scoop neck is carefully adjusted and sewn back on to look like a seamless V. What Young did was just cut my dress down the middle and sew the ends back. She wanted a chance to fix this dress too but if she couldn't do a simple scoop already, why would I leave this dress again. In the end, I asked refund and she gave me a partial refund, not even half a refund because she said she had no money. She over charges as it is. She asked me not to be upset because she was a Christian too (???). She offered to do a free hem on one pair of pants. I will never bring anything to her again. I will continue my search for a good tailor in or near Orland Park and update this post to help others find a decent tailor. read more

I was very optimistic headed into my dress alterations appointment, but later come to find out I was scammed. I had my sister's wedding this last weekend and went to Young's Dressmaker to get my dress hemmed and taken in. When I tried on the dress, it was BARELY taken in the sides so I had to use fashion tape to hold my dress together. There was a detail on the back that had a sewed in strap and when I tried it on, the strap was cut and a snap - not even a button - was in place of my sewn strap. I had to then have my mother sew the dress to the first layer of the dress - AND I never even asked her to do that... Lastly, I had asked her to hem the bottom of my dress. That was even not done, but she added a bustle instead! I was so furious with how this dress came out because I spent a lot of money on the dress itself, and then had to pay $150 in alterations to her for her to not even make the proper alterations to my dress. The dress is now in the garbage and am just so furious about this entire thing. Will NOT be returning to this extremely expensive, and not adequate seamstress. read more

A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE TO WORK WITH!! IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD!! I went to go get measurements done by this women because I'm getting a custom wedding gown made for me. I had my designer on a video call with us to help guide the measuring process as my designer is from out of state. This seamstress took things into her own hands and was inaccurately measuring and arguing with my designer the entire time. During the process it was required that I have no top on which is fine up until I saw a man creeping on me from her stairwell. I was very uncomfortable the whole process and she felt the need to yell at my designer how she's educated and has gone to school for this and proceeded to talk about how she makes wedding gowns also like I'm sorry lady but I didn't know you were the one designing my gown? I came for measurements but instead left with a headache and inaccurate measurements. She was a nightmare to work with and wouldn't measure exactly what my designer wanted. She wanted to do her own thing. She also initially told me it would cost $20 to take my measurements and in the end switched the price to $30 which I thought was unfair considering she didn't do anything right. In the end she mentioned to me when my gown is done and I need alterations to come back to her. I WILL NOT BE BACK AND AFTER HER CRAPPY JOB I WOULD NOT TRUST HER WITH MY $10,000 WEDDING DRESS!!!! read more

I took my wedding dress here for alterations. They say you should trust your gut and goodness I wish I would have listened to mine(and read the yelp reviews). Two weeks before my wedding, I ended up having to take my dress to a bridal shop to be fixed by a wonderfully skilled seamstress. The hem was crooked and falling apart, the dress was folded over on the sides and not fitted properly in the bodice and back areas. You could literally see down to my butt! I had to call a friend to make sure I wasn't loosing my mind, I even considered buying another dress before I found my new amazing seamstress. I called Young to discuss a PARTIAL refund and while crying my eyes out, I was meet with insults about how I complained, how I'm a bad person and what a great job she did. She hung up on me twice then called back to say she'd have my dress cleaned after the wedding then hung up on me again. Wow! I would NEVER let her touch an item of my clothing after the terrible quality and service I received. I'm even debating filing a BBB complaint or small claims after the wedding, it was that bad!
