I've also witnessed her yell at them from across the store over little things that are beyond their control when they are very clearly doing their best considering they always seem short staffed. maybe she should realize they could use some help instead of being belittled and made to feel like crap. If I were them I'd quit. its very obviously a toxic environment and no one deserves that kind of treatment from someone they're supposed to look up to!!!!

About 45 minutes to an hour were spent browsing through the incredible old/new - new/old stock (however it's referred to) and we had the pleasure of talking with Dennis, who answered whatever questions I had while gently rebuffing my attempts to buy things that were not for sale. I did however purchase a nice old file in new condition as well as an old, ornate drill bit holder which will proudly be displayed in my home shop. This store has a hazy, relaxed, out-of-time feel to it and is as relaxing and comfortable as any familiar place where one wants to get lost for a while and forget the loud, impersonal modern world in which we find ourselves immersed far too often.

Customer service is slightly better, but still subpar compared to suburban or Southern THDs. The app makes finding things an 8/10, so helps make up for it. The lack of being able to pay with Apple Pay definitely steal a star here. What is it with home renovation stores that don't take Apple Pay?! Thankfully our local Ace does (they get a much, much better review btw). For a big box store, you could do worse, but they'll likely have the tool/part thing you'll need.

Smith's is my gold standard when it comes to hardware stores. It's been here forever and for good…read morereason. The staff really makes the difference, as they are extremely knowledgeable and will go out of their way to help, including giving recommendations on how to handle a project if asked. They're the best thing about this place. The space itself is pretty large, and they do a great job of packing in everything from paint, to power tools, and seemingly everything in between. Not much in the way of housewares unlike some hardware stores but that's a non-factor to me. Technically affiliated with Ace Hardware which helps for their rewards program. Parking is also not bad in the Saugerties area which is helpful too (since they are on Main St). I come here whenever I need a serious hardware store for a project, and they've never let me down.
