We saw a few reels about Dagu and my daughter wanted noodles, so we headed over! All the servers were very friendly and explained the menu well. My daughter ordered a rice noodle with golden soup base (and unlimited noodle refills!) and I went with the build-your-own bowl for $13.99/lb. My daughter's order arrived quickly and the broth was incredibly flavorful, and the rice noodles had a fantastic chew that I didn't expect. I got the mala spicy broth and it was fantastic as well! Dagu is a sister store to Yintang Hotpot a few doors down. This place is similar in that you can build your own hotpot or stir fry from a large selection of ingredients but they also offer set menu items. I got the original hearty beef rib rice noodles. It comes out with a 3x3 tray of pre-selected ingredients you can add to the piping hot broth. The portion size didn't seem like much visually but at the end of the meal, I was quite full especially after the rice noodles. The broth was on point and very flavorful yet not too salty or spicy. Surprisingly understatedly delicious. I took a star off because the beef rib itself could have had more meat to bone ratio. It was well flavored and seasoned, but I wish there was more meat on the bone. They also have a build your own shaved ice dessert bar. A nice selection of toppings and plenty of grass jelly my favorite. The staff was patient, courteous, and helpful. I will be back to try other menu items here. read more

I had a great experience at Dagu Rice Noodle! The highlight of the meal was definitely the mala soup. It had the perfect balance of spicy and numbing flavors without being overwhelming. The broth was rich, flavorful, and tasted like it had been simmered for hours. The rice noodles were fresh and had a great texture, soaking up all the delicious broth. The portions were generous, and the ingredients tasted fresh. If you're a fan of mala or comforting noodle soups, this place is definitely worth checking out. Another great hotpot place! You can either order off their menu with set dishes, or you can build your own bowl which is priced by weight. For build your own, you can choose to have it prepped as a soup, or dry pot. If you're concerned about weight, you can bring it up for a weight check and decide if you're done or want to add more. Good selection of items for build your own bowl and everything was good quality! The food came out shortly after too. I love piling on extra food at these types of places so I can pack my leftovers for another meal at home! Will definitely be back in the future! read more

Dagu Rice Noodles had such an interesting concept where you make your own dinner! They price it by pound and depending whether you want it as a dry stir fry or soup base. I got a mixture of beef, seafood, vegetable, and noodle in my dish. The price can add up but honestly, this meal can last you awhile with leftovers. Definitely worth it! read more

Among all the noodle places, Dagu Rice Noodles is mediocre. We specifically tried out their rice noodles set. The set looks fancy and presents very well, but the broths and toppings were just so so. They also have the malatang option for anyone who likes that more. I would personally recommend the malatang version because you get to pick your own toppings. They do offer many different types of broth, so some may find that an advantage compared to others. read more

Came here on a Sunday around noonish. Surprisingly the restaurant was packed and we snagged the last table available before having to put a name on the waitlist. I opted for the golden broth beef rib noodle and loved the presentation of the toppings that you're supposed to add into your big pot of noddles. The noodles were tender and the broth was delicious!! Super umami and flavorful. We also ordered the shrimp cheese balls, def recommended! My fiancé ordered the build your own "dry pot". You choose everything you want and they weigh it ($13.99/lb). Ours came out to be 1.5 lbs. Then they ask for the spice level (original, mild, or spicy. They didn't inform us but it's $3 for mild. The mild was the just amount of spice for us because the mala spice lingers. They also have a DIY dessert ice jelly bar with toppings. Overall we left super full and would come back !! read more

1 star rating bc marinated chicken was stored on the floor uncovered and unrefrigerated. Read below... My friend and I were looking forward to trying a "new" spot and decided to try this place. We were seated right away and were told to scan the QR code to bring up the menu but we had to speak up because we wanted to do the self-serve bar at 13.99/lb which you have to order thru the server which is separate from the QR code. We walked up to the cold bar and there were many items to select ranging from meats, seafood, noodles, and veggies. You fill your bowl and bring it to the cashier to weigh it and select your soup. Most of the soup base were not their original house special like Tom yum except for the golden soup which is a chicken broth so I chose that. I saw that the scale read 1.03 lbs on my bowl but they rang me up for 1.04 lbs. Of course I'm not going to make a big deal about 0.01 but it's interesting that they do that. It took a while for our food to come out and during our wait, the server asked my friend if she had noodles or no noodles. She said he had noodles in hers. In turns out that they must have mixed up another person's order with hers bc she had additional noodles which were different than the one she put in her bowl. The other poor customer probably didn't get any noodles in their bowl! My chicken soup broth was definitely yellow or "golden" but it didn't taste good to me. Based on the broth, I'd have to say that other restaurants have a leg up. It wasn't until I finished eating and went to the restroom where saw a container of marinaded chicken on the kitchen floor, unsealed, and unrefrigerated where workers were reaching over to open the refrigerator directly above it. Even if they supposedly meant to throw it away, it is unsanitary and unsafe to store it on the floor. For this reason, I have no other choice but to give it a 1 star rating. I really do not like giving 1 star ratings because I support local businesses. However when dishonesty and health violation is involved, I have a duty to share my experience. read more

Came across this place on someone's IG post. Disappointed that the dessert bar was done for the day on a day you wouldn't have expected it to happen. Trying to order is a little confusing and the staff didn't offer much suggestion to help gain an understanding of the experience. We were pretty much left to figure it out on our own. Although there is a set of instructions above the food bar, there still wasn't enough to fully understand the direction of what to do. Even when we got to the counter to weigh our bowl there was little to help guide us to a fully satisfying experience. I may try this place again but may need a little more time to absorb the details to make a well informed decision for my meal. Hopefully, the unlimited ice bar will be stocked on the next visit read more

I ordered the golden rib noodles and the pickled mustard greens fish noodles. I loved the soup for the rib noodle soup as it was really aromatic and creamy. While the fish soup was a bit too strong for my taste in terms of the pickled mustard greens. I would definitely prefer the rice noodles over the hand pulled noodles as it also had a better overall texture. The wait was easy and the service was quick. read more

The options for meat and vegetables were very good! I'm a light eater and got ~2-3 meals from one $30 bowl. Broth is good, desert is great for those who love sweets. Overall really enjoyed the food here! They have standard bowls you can order, or you can personalize your own bowl by selecting veggies/meats/noodles/etc at their ingredients bar and choose a soup. The soups are really yummy, I loved the tomato base. Service is pretty good although food came out at oddly different times. We had four dishes come out for four people one by one and the last two came out extremely slow. By the last bowl, the first two people almost finished eating. Ambiance is casual. Could use some cleaning. Ingredient bar area smelled bad like moist dirty towel and some of the sauce plates had leftover dried food on them. Floor felt moist/almost slipped not sure if oil on ground or what. Parking is notoriously terrible im this convoy lot especially at peak hours on weekends. can take some time to find a spot, some street parking is available but also gets full. read more

After visiting and trying the hot pot options, we came back to try the dry pot. Think of it as the same as hot pot but instead of soup, the food is stir-fried (expect mala flavors). You can choose your spice level but this doesn't seem pretty consistent because extra spicy didn't taste that much worse than medium. Add what you want in the big bowl and bring it over to the front to weigh. It's so easy to go overboard because as you're adding things, it never looks like it's enough food! For dry pot, you can request to add green onion, cilantro and white sesame seeds when they cook it. They also have a sauce bar but I didn't feel like I needed any extra sauce or herbs because of how flavorful the final dish comes out to be. For this visit, my bowl ended up being over 2 lbs. which costs about $35. It's a pretty good deal especially because I couldn't finish it all so I got to take leftovers home. I recommend trying the beef tongue (looks gross cold but comes out super tender), imitation crab, napa cabbage (got some charred pieces, delicious!), and mushrooms. Overall, a delicious meal! I think the hot pot is perfect for cold days or if I'm feeling a little sick/hungover but I would default to the dry pot for any other days. Dessert isn't available yet but I saw they added a shaved ice machine! read more

This place is very similar to the ten second rice noodle place nearby, but i like that dagu offers both noodles dishes and a diy bar to put together your own soup dish. It was crowded on a Friday night but we got seated fairly quickly. I got the fish hand pulled noodle soup and was sadly disappointed that every piece of fish had skin on it. Next time, I may ask for no skin on the fish. Overall, the quality of the food was good and i liked the dessert station in the buffet area. read more

QR code available to place order. If it's your first time, they'll also hand you a physical menu with a verbal explanation. You can either order the precurated meals or build your own (charged by weight) for a personal hot pot or stir fry at the self served bar. I opted for the signature slow-braised beef brisket rice noodle soup ($17.99) and the portion was quite generous. It came out in a hot stone like pot that kept the broth hot for the duration of my visit, along with a platter of assorted toppings and a large serving of noodles (I chose handmade). It was recommended to place toppings in before noodles. The broth itself was rich in beef flavor. There were plenty of condiments provided on the table for adjustments. Was it the best soup? No, but you can't beat the cost with the serving size. Also had the golden shrimp fried rice ($15.99) that had large size, deveined shrimps (a plus). It was good but required a little extra soy sauce for our party. Honestly, I enjoyed the fried rice more than the soup (don't at me). Service was quick and attentive as well. read more

A good old choose you own toppings soup places. Ingredients are fresh and this although this place is most known for their rice noodles(its in their name :O) I'm not a fan of rice noodles and didnt get them so can't do it justice. Another great Yunnan Noodle place in San Diego! Here you can get many different flavored single serving hot pot dishes as well as Malaxiangguo, which is like a stir fry concoction of ingredients you pick out yourself. Recommend the beef tendon and tongue! Very affordable and delicious. The Golden Soup base for hotpot is also great. Service was great and friendly. 3.5/5 Finally got to try this place after seeing it on social media. Wait wasn't too long on a Friday night around 7 PM, although for larger parties more than 4, I can see the wait being pretty long because of how small it is inside. They offer different selections here with 3 main categories 1) Rice noodle soup - different broths and flavors but they come with 9 different toppings you put into the soups 2) Soup hot pot or 3) dry hot pot - you select from the selection bar in the back for these 2 & they charge by pound. A little confusing.. the have a QR code on each table where you can scan and order the rice noodle soups, everything else is you select products in a bowl, weigh, and pay after you eat. For hot pot it's around $14-$15 per pound and for dry hot pot about $17 per pound. A bit pricey, but standard nowadays for these places. I thought dry pot seasonings were decent, not as oily as other places which is a plus. they have great selection of proteins - beef, lamb, fish, etc. Veggie selections are also great, highly recommend the taro root for the dry hot pot :) rice is extra $1.99 for a small bowl, didn't come with rice which I thought was kinda weird. Overall just okay, pricey and nothing I would rush to come back for. read more

The service was self explanatory and quick and easy. We both loved how everything was cooked besides the squid + octopus; those were so rubbery and tough. Yummy rice and hand pulled noodles! Great ambiance, decor. You can order noodle soups on the menu or make your own hot pot style at the bar. Each soup comes with 9 toppings. The soup comes out piping hot and is a large portion. I am gluten intolerant and was ok with the fish with pickled mustard greens soup. You should know that all the mushroom soups are in pork broth. The only veggie option is with plain boiling water. As usual, be aware of limited parking. There was not a wait for Sunday lunch. read more

Not too bad. I think I prefer ten second rice noodle more only because they have the pickled veggie soup base- which I like more for this type of dish. The soup here is good still, very brothy and not watered down. Ordering is pretty straight forward. You get the option to order à la carte or do malatang. The space is small and cozy, but parking can be tough during peak hours. I'd come back to try the malatang tho! read more

Similar concept as yi tang, but you have the option of choosing something the menu and skipping the pick your own toppings options. The broth was not as rich as yi tang which I prefer. The fried noodles should not be skipped. It was delicious and flavorful even though this a soup spot. Would come back! You order on your phone and pay up front. The vibe feels less chaotic than the Mira mesa location of yi tang which was welcomed. Parking sucks though so time your visit carefully. read more

This is a popular strip mall, so it could be challenging for you to find parking. Parking is free for 90 minutes, but you'll have to pay after that time ends. Shan Xi is nice inside with gray brick on their walls, decorative lighting surrounded by rattan, Chinese dolls on a shelf, Chinese inspired figurine art on another wall, and a beautiful curio/screen containing Chinese knick knacks. Seating consists of tables/chairs and a long leather bench. Our servers were friendly, but to me having to order from a QR code is impersonal. I'd rather talk to a person, so that I can ask what they recommend. Plus, if diners aren't familiar with this type of cuisine, I'm sure they would have a bunch of questions. We simply asked a reasonable question based on the restaurant's posted business hours, and instead of receiving a courteous explanation, we were met with unnecessary hostility. Customer service is just as important as the food. A welcoming attitude can make guests want to return, while a rude interaction can overshadow everything else. Unfortunately, this experience left such a negative impression that I won't be returning. I also would not feel comfortable bringing my family or recommending this restaurant to friends because everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect. I hope management takes this review as constructive feedback and reminds their staff that even when it's close to closing time, a little kindness and professionalism go a long way.
