I ordered the spicy beef brisket soup. It came with kimchi, pickled radish, and rice for sides. It was the perfect serving for me. I ate everything in the soup. The brisket was cooked well, soft, melted in the mouth. I'll definitely be returning to try more of their soups. The spice level on this was a medium for me. Mostly because it was very hot (temperature) but I kept going for more, it's that kinda spicy, where you just wanna keep enjoying it. When I found this spot, first things that caught my eye was pork gukbap and soondae guk, both of which options are limited/non-existent back at home. SERVICE: Very friendly. You order, pay, they give you a beeper, and then find a table. There are a lot of other vendors too, so it was fun to walk around and see what they had. It isn't often that I order, sit down, taste, and am immediately propelled to distant lands. The spicy beef soup at Moobongri did exactly that - like a taste time travel tunnel, it "whooshed" me away; every bite intensifying the experience. The soup it's expertly made. Combining spice at a tolerable level with intense flavor from the beef-bone broth. Shreds of beef flanked (pun intended) by egg, fiddle ferns, green onion and above all FLAVOR are what makes this such an enjoyable experience. Some have said this before - but to think this is in a food court in Hmart, is pretty amazing. On the side I ordered a tendon plate. Most American diners shy away from tendon. It's a texture thing I'm told. But the texture that is SO prized in areas of Asia and the middle-east, is something many Americans simply can't stomach. Me? I grew up in the gelatinous, quivering pieces, so much so that I sometimes crave them but rarely find them, again, because of many American's aversion to the dish. Imagine my surprise when I saw this on the menu. When I told staff that I like mine "soft" and that I've gotten "not so soft" in the past, I was told that the tendon is "pretty soft, but somewhat chewy" a PERFECT description of the dish. Not so soft it falls apart, but not too chewy either. If you promise not to tell, rather than dropping some in the accompanying dipping sauce, I dunk these gelatinous chunks in the soup for extra flavor, alternating between "plain" and "soup dunked" bits. The side dishes of kimchi and daikon kimchi served as perfect companions to the soup both in flavor and temperature, thus allowing me to alienate texture-temperature-unctuousness-salty/sour; making my palate dance with joy discovering something new with every chew and every bite. The ambiance is that of a food court - casual, sometimes loud, humming with people, friends and families enjoying something tasty. Combine coming here with shopping at Hmart or the attached Paris bakery and you have a wonderful hop skip and a jump to foreign lands. read more

I love the soups here! I've tried the spicy pork, beef stew, and today I had the spicy beef blood soup. It had cubes of beef blood cakes and thinly sliced brisket (I think). The broth is always perfectly piping hot, savory, and flavorful. Each soup comes with three sides, like kimchi, daikon kimchi, and rice. Last time I had their food is when I was in Colorado and I like the food. When I saw them in HMart in Balboa Avenue. I was like I am going to eat here, last Sunday my friends, my wife and I went to Hmart and I decided to eat here while my wife ate at Chodang. I was looking for Yukejang that they have in Colorado but I guess it's name different here in San Diego. I ordered their spicy brisket with vegetables, the soup is amazing, it's almost the same in Colorado when it came to flavor. I also like the kimchee that's included in the food, if their soup is like the soup in the tofu soup in Chodang, it will be really good. Their service a lot quicker also because I got my food way ahead of the food from other stall and the soup came out hot. I thought the portion was pretty small for the price, but I did a little more research and found that it's on par with the going price for good quality soondae these days, maybe a bit on the high side. I found it to be really tasty. Regardless I was satisfied with my meal and paired it with the tteokbokki sauce from Jaws Express next door. Also really happy to report that their seollongtang is really good too! Good portion size and they accommodated my request for extra kimchi! Another new Korean food experience for me. I ordered the Soondae Gukbap. Order comes with kkakdugi or radish kimchi, baechu-kimchi or napa cabbage kimchi, rice, gochujang, & salt & pepper. First time eating korean blood sausage as well as the gukbap. Both tasted great. The soup also has some chopped up pork intestines, liver & heart in there. You order from the counter, they'll give you a beeper and pick it up from the counter once ready. When you are done, you return your entire tray back to their counter. Moobongri is a Korean chain with a presence in seven states. They have debuted at one of the vendor stalls at the H Mart food court in Kearny Mesa. The menu was less extensive than what was offered at the larger locations around the country. Hot soup bowls were the featured category with over a dozen available varieties. Three BBQ dishes and six A La Carte choices made up the rest of the selections. Intestines and blood sausage were a part of several dishes so it helps to have an adventurous palate. I wasn't in the mood for soup, therefore I asked the cashier about the Soondae Plates. He described the Meat & Veggies version as sausage stuffed with rice and pork blood so I took a risk and ordered it. For the $18 price, I expected rice and/or side dishes (banchan) to be included. Unfortunately, what I received in a takeout container was simply three sausage links cut into pieces. I'm not sure why it was that expensive for sausage only and how that was considered a "plate." The texture of the sausage was fine, but the taste was one you need to be familiar with to enjoy the product. It was difficult for me to consume as I could only finish a few pieces before discarding the rest. The two types of kimchi they make in-house are absolutely delicious and unlike anything you'd find pre-packaged. My favorite dish was the beef rib soup with glass noodles! I've been to Moobongri many times in K-town and OC so I got excited to see it opened up in San Diego where it lacks a legit Soondae Guk (Korean Blood Sausage Soup) place. I have ordered a Spicy Soondae Guk. I think the broth is little weaker and had little less Tojong soondae in it compared to K-town location. Overall, it was good and the kimchi and the radiah kimchi that came as a side dish were good too. It is located inside H-Mart Balboa food court. They offer other soups and different Soondae plates. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, that were more than accomadating to my request (actually apologized for having momentarily forgot I wanted green onions, and got the whole bucket to serve me onions like cheese at olive garden). We ordered spicy beef brisket soup and spicy beef soup on Nov 10. Both dishes are excellent. The spicy beef soup has glass noodle, shredded beef and bracken served in a big metal bowl, while the spicy beef brisket soup has chinese cabbage and good portion of brisket in a clay pot. Personally I prefer the Spicy beef soup better even the latter is great as well. Both korean comfort food arare wonderful for the fall. We ordered two kalbitang (kalbi stews) and we got two large beef bones and a couple additional pieces of side rib meat that had a lot meat and with hardly any fat. The broth was well seasoned and came with sliced egg and glass noodles. We also received a healthy portion of kimchee and kaktoogi kimchee which were also authentic and was a great compliment to the stew. The dish also comes with a small bowl of white rice which my nephew loved to stir in his stew but I am trying to maintain a low carb diet. I highly recommend this restaurant.
