I split it with my bf and these two plates were $22 it was their sampler platter. The service was quick. I do wish they posted what times and events they go to consistently online. Ordered from Yum Dum Truck at the Argyle Street Night Market in summer of 2024. We enjoyed a trio of Korean chicken and shrimp bao sandwiches and a side of spicy cucumber noodles. Generous portions and the chicken and shrimp were tender, flavorful and not overly breaded. The cucumber noodles were a great choice as a side. You can tell they have experience working street festivals as they weee very good at instructing customers in where to stand after placing their order - and they knew how many orders to take at one time so as to not overload the kitchen or have impatient customers. Our next visit to the Night Market we got in line for Yum Dum later in the evening thinking we were after the main rush and the line would be shorter. Not a good choice on our part. I tried a lot from the Yum Dum Truck and was pretty satisfied with everything I had. The best deal is getting the $10 meal deal as it's basically like getting a drink free. I tried the Yum Dum Truck at the Schaumburg Food Truck Fest and the wait was like thirty minutes. My first advice is follow them on Twitter & find the truck out and about- not at some fest. That way you will avoid the lines as much as you possibly can. What I tried - Kimcheesy Rice Balls $3 ~ Loved these and they had just enough spice to them. Sriracha Pecan Brownie $3 ~ So strange to have a spicy brownie but it was also kinda cool. The brownie itself was actually quite good and I'd recommend it for a little somethin' somethin' different in the dessert department. Pork Belly Baowich & Korean Chili Chicken Baowich $3 each - Both baowiches had very good baos ~ soft and yummy. The ingredients inside were good on both, but I wouldn't go as far as to call them amazing. It is a good lunch time option ~ quick & easy & cheap. Make sure to get the rice balls!!! They're so good on their own, but the dipping sauce takes them over the top. I love the spicy sauce which is a mix of Jalepeno's and Sriracha Mayo. I'm an idiot. I've seen this truck outside my office for a while now and always assumed it would have nothing I'd like or ate. In my defense (or maybe not), I somehow fabricated that idea that this was a dim sum truck. If it was, it might be called Yum Sum or Yum Dim; clearly, I'm not the best at reading. But I digress. Bored with the nearby lunch options, I did a slow roll past Yum Dum, this time actually reading their menu. Lo and behold, there are some good options for the pescatarians out there and a few veggie options too. On my first visit, I got two of the baowiches - a crispy panko breaded fish and a crispy shrimp one. The sandwiches came out like bao tacos. They were small, but tasty with a subtle heat suited to even those with a low tolerance for spice. On my next visit, I upped my order to the $10 meal - 2 baowiches or 6 dumplings plus a side and drink. I opted for the same two baowiches and finished the combo off with the kimcheesy rice balls and a can of asian cider. While I didn't care for the cider, everything else was quite good and I got a cute chork (chopstick-fork) for my balls. Next time, my eye's on the sriracha-pecan brownie. If you typically have a big lunch appetite, this place might disappoint. As others have noted, the portions err on the small side. I was so happy to run into the Yum Dum Truck at the NOSH's Lunch Market today! It's a food truck that makes regular stops at NOSH events and seems to have quite a following judging by the line on the plaza. Words cannot begin to describe the deliciousness that I found at Yum Dum. I went for the $10 lunch and got a great amount of high quality food for $10. I would recommend the pork belly and Korean chicken baowiches with the kimcheesy rice balls on the side. The baowiches are a good size and chock full of sweet and spicy flavors. I don't know if I have ever had anything so delicious as the kimcheesy rice balls. They are balls of sticky rice, smothered in Siracha and cheese, then lightly deep-fried. Pure heaven. I want one of the funny tanks emblazoned with "Get Sum" on the back. Maybe if I order enough $10 lunches they'll give me one? I am certainly up for the challenge! I would encourage anyone and everyone looking to escape their lunch rut to get out to NOSH on the Plaza. Every Thursday and Friday from 11am-2pm a group of food trucks/vendors get together and serve delicious and well priced food at this beautifully sunny plaza. There are even guest DJs spinning during your lunch hour! Make sure to visit Yum Dum first though, fittingly they have the first spot on the plaza too. If you're craving bao's, I think this place is decent. But there is nothing super particular that blew me away. Pork Belly Bao: This one threw me for a run. When I go for pork belly, I expect a more saltier palette of flavors which it does until you get into the pickled mustard greens which I think actually reduces the flavor as that is pretty strong. With that said, I think the flavor blend here between the salty and sour taste don't really go well together. I ended up taking the greens off on the last bite. read more

Stopped by at Wacker & Adams (Thursday), in which Yum Dum was amongst several other trucks there. So happy to finally try Yum Dum! The line at Yum Dum was by far the longest of all the food trucks. I waited right about 10 minutes and maybe another 5 for my food. I got six dumplings of the pork & chive and the thai chicken (they were out of veggie), which cost $5, as well as one of each of the 4 baowiches (2 for $6). The dumplings were very good and enjoyed them much better than the baos. They were however on the small side. The noodle wrapper was super fresh as were the fillings, especially the pork & chive, which was also super tasty. The baos were good too. I enjoyed the shrimp the most. The pork belly was a little disappointing, as it was dry. However, all of the flavors were spot on and exciting. Prices are about right. Definitely would come back for a pick-me up snack, but making a meal out of here would be too pricy for me as I spent $17 (prefer under $10) to fill me up. I first heard of Yum Dum when I was on the Chicago's Best YouTube account. I was so impressed with the futuristic menu and the prices and one afternoon I stumbled across the food truck and had not planned on it. I was elated. I was so ready to try it out. I opted for the $10 bao combo with the rice balls. For the bao I chose the crispy chili chicken and shrimp ones. Hmmm. The rice balls were totally not what k expected them to be. There was some sort of taste that I just couldn't stomach, so I could only finish 1.5 out of the 3. My colleague thought they were great, so this particular factor is more than likely a reflection of my own taste buds, and not a flaw of Yum Dum. The baos were decent at best. I'm extremely picky when it comes to food. I expected the baos to be completely enclosed like a ball. Instead they were left open like a taco. The portion size was also very small. I'd say 3 bites per bao. The chicken one literally had two pieces of bite size chicken in it, and it was mostly breading with a crisped, tough piece of chicken in it. Although a bit pricey, I thought this truck had amazing food. One of my favorites so far. I had the kimcheesy rice balls (I don't even like kimchi, and is now one of my favorite foods ever, that's how good these are) pork chive dumpling (very fresh tasting), sesame cucumber noodles (they're alright), and one shrimp and one chicken bao sandwich. This was really disappointing. The buzz around this place was palpable and everybody seemed excited. The price point was right. But the food itself was so weak. The dumplings were completely devoid of any flavor. The pork & cabbage dumplings differed only from the chicken & thai basil dumplings in the texture of the meat inside; that is to say both were a tightly wrapped but flavorless bundle of meat that was unimproved by dipping into the two dipping sauce options: -dark brown but not salty or sour -bright red but only spicy without any other flavor addition. I also had a side of "cucumber sesame" noodles that were not noticeably flavored by either of those two or any other descriptors, but did contain one tasty and extremely spicy pickle slice. More Yum than Dum at this excellent new addition to the fledgling Chicago food truck scene. Vegetarians, do not dismay, though the truck did not have any vegetable-friendly dumplings or sandwiches on my visit, I am promised that they sometimes serve vegetarian dumplings, and the kimcheesy balls and cucumber noodle salad are terrific. The balls are spicy, crispy then melty with a squeak of fresh cheese. The noodle salad is fresh and has a nice mix of textures with sesame seeds and green onions tossed together. Let's make one thing clear, Yum Dum is not a purveyor of traditional Chinese bao. So if you are expecting bao, then you may be disappointed. They instead serve baowiches or what I like to call "bao tacos". And Yum Dum does this to near perfection! Their fish taco (bao) is perhaps the best fish taco I have ever tasted!
